00:01The worst areas in the city of Bristol for shoplifting have been reported.
00:07According to the latest data, shoplifting offences has increased by 11.4%
00:13when compared to year over year in the period of March 2024 to February 2025.
00:21The date from Police UK has deemed the worst neighbourhoods in the city of Bristol that are impacted by shoplifting.
00:29There have been studies about shoplifting in the city of Bristol that is kind of on the rise and there's been a lot of it.
00:35Have you ever witnessed it? Is it something that concerns you?
00:38Yes, I have witnessed it and it happened rather quickly and I wasn't quick enough to do anything about it.
00:51I was a bit shocked. I'm trying to remember which shop it was in now. I can't remember.
00:59No, I haven't really witnessed it much but I can imagine just during the cost of living crisis
01:05I think things are definitely very difficult for people which, you know, it's a massive shame.
01:09So I think I can definitely see why it's like, I think, increasing.
01:13Broadmeat came first with 1,020 shoplifting offences between March 2024 and February 2025.
01:23The reasons for this has been cited as the cost of living crisis as well as anti-social behaviour.
01:29Yeah, I think so. I think just because of the high prices and just the fact that the economy has not been doing very well, it's just, yeah, I think it's just a bit misfortunate.
01:41Many shops in the Broadmeat area now have their own security both on the shop floor and at the shop exit to help deter shoplifters and catch those who attempt to commit the crime.
01:53The second highest area for shoplifting was Henleys and Westbury on Trim with 546 shoplifting offences in the area during the same period.
02:05While this was over half the amount of Broadmeat that was affected, it is still a high number for the crime.
02:13The Henleys and Westbury on Trim villages are populated with many independent shops, charity shops and supermarkets for locals.
02:23And supermarkets were one of the targeted vicinities in the area by shoplifters.
02:28And how would you feel about shops raising their prices in order to kind of compensate for the loss of income?
02:34I don't think they should raise the prices. I feel that they've, I think, already done that a lot.
02:39Whereas I think for quite a lot of people from what I know, like from my friends, like, I think their salaries haven't risen as well.
02:44So I think, I don't think bracing the prices would be probably the best thing to do.
02:49And would you be okay with them putting up their prices to kind of compensate for the amount of shoplifting there is?
02:55I think they have to.
02:58Gotta survive somehow.
03:00Yeah.
03:01So that's a great one.
03:02That's a great one, right?
03:04That's a great one.
03:05You don't forget it now.
