On the second day of Hari Raya, Emergency Physician Dr Paranthaman Kaneson did not expect a chaotic situation to unfold at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) where people were rushed in with serious burns and blisters.
According to Dr Paranthaman, the first patient arrived in SJMC at 9am, less than an hour after the gas pipeline fire broke out at a neighborhood in Putra Heights on April 1 at 8am.

00:00It was indeed chaotic, but as I said, my team managed it very well.
00:21At that moment, treating patients was the priority.
00:24Help was mobilized very quickly, did not keep anybody waiting too long
00:28because everybody was in extreme pain, a lot of anxiety, a lot of stress among themselves
00:33for the patient and also the relatives that came along.
00:36We were aware of the incident, but we didn't know the scale of the incident,
00:41how bad it was until we started seeing the patient that started coming in.
00:45So the first patient that came in had a quite significant burn, more than 25%.
00:50Then the subsequent patients, we had quite a number of them that came in after that,
00:54that had required even an intensive care management.
00:57They are not like the full thickness burn.
00:59These are partial thickness burns, which is extremely painful actually
01:02because they come with blisters and all these things.
01:04So we had range from less than 5% and up to 30% burn we had.
01:10In fact, I think within one hour, we settled all the patients
01:13and most of them have already admitted.
01:15Either admitted or those who are free to be discharged, we managed to discharge them.
01:18The first victim that we received is the most severe cases that's been managed by ER.
01:25This is a multiple burn from the body, from the neck, shoulder, back, and the lower limb.
01:31This is the most severe case that we managed.
01:33But we do have the great HOD on that time during the day.
01:37So it's managed to call immediately the plastic surgeon.
01:40It's a Dr. John Ranjit.
01:41Also it's arrived at that time.
01:43So it's a we managed well that case.
01:46The CEO, the medical director quickly mobilized the staffs.
01:50Nurses who lived nearby were called.
01:52They all came into work.
01:53Our own nurses, our own department nurses,
01:55who are supposed to be setting their shift at 2 o'clock.
01:58They were asked to come in early.
02:00They all came in within half an hour.
02:02This was extremely selfless service actually they did.
02:05All this not thinking, no monitoring, nothing.
02:08It's just to help and to make sure that the patients get the best outcome.
02:28Even the clients get the best potential that the metresiving down in the body.
02:37They are supposed to be pressing at 3K.
02:40I love it.
