00:00:00Slightly different terminology, but certainly the same outcome.
00:00:04We'll look now at our Battery Zone drone shot.
00:00:08We've been using it a lot this weekend, and that picks up on all those surface changes.
00:00:1230 surface changes on the racing line for the lap, just over 3km.
00:00:18And this big, long, fast, back straight, 245km, you approach this corner into the left-hand complex
00:00:24to get onto the start-finish straight.
00:00:27And even on the start-finish straight, there are varying surfaces getting down to Turn 1.
00:00:33And as you can see there, Brodie Kostecki parked on pole position alongside Chas Mostat.
00:00:38And what happens off the line here? Who knows? This is going to be an absolute ripper.
00:00:43When you look into the background off the starting line, you're going to see a lot of energy being created,
00:00:49not only from the supercars, but the geothermal power stations that are around here.
00:00:52around about 20% of the power for New Zealand comes from geothermal.
00:00:57And there we go. So that's a normal situation.
00:01:00So I am looking forward to this one. On the front row, we've got Kostecki and Mostat.
00:01:03Then alongside on the second row, Feeney and Davison.
00:01:06This is a huge chance for Brodie and for Chas to deliver some promise on what we saw from earlier today.
00:01:12Off they go from the line. Check out the run from Feeney down the inside.
00:01:16And he shoves it up into second. Mostat's got the whole shot though, as they go down into Turn 1.
00:01:21And have a look at Waters trying to wind his way around the outside, back in the pack ever so slightly.
00:01:27But Chas has brained him into one.
00:01:29Kostecki bogged it off the line. He jumped okay, but it bogged down.
00:01:32And Mostat was able to drive straight by him.
00:01:35Red Bull car down the inside. Feeney almost got that move made.
00:01:38I thought they were going to make contact with Kostecki into Turn 2.
00:01:42So Kostecki just couldn't make the thing walk off the line.
00:01:47The value of clean air apparent when you look at Mostat already just negotiating through this left-hander at Turn 7.
00:01:54He skipped away to the best part of three quarters of a second from the field as they wind their way down.
00:01:58And you can guarantee that in that mid-pack and beyond at the moment, it's elbows up and out and into each other.
00:02:04Full would try to forge away through there on the inside.
00:02:06That's David Reynolds in the Tradie Energy entry to the hairpin now with some shadows.
00:02:10Clean, tight line here for Mostat.
00:02:14Kostecki under pressure from Feeney, who blasted off the line.
00:02:18And Brodie was lucky to survive that attack down there at Turn 1.
00:02:21Followed then by Brown, who's made good ground.
00:02:24Check out this situation as they start throwing rocks coming out of 11.
00:02:29So have a go at that.
00:02:30And it was Heimgartner that got the tardy exit there.
00:02:33And the championship leader, Cam Waters, has gone back a few spots.
00:02:37So he got caught out.
00:02:39Randall's come up three, but Cam has lost a couple of spots.
00:02:44Two abreast now coming off the start finish straight.
00:02:47And a wild opening lap in the midfield.
00:02:50Talked about energy at the start of the race.
00:02:53There's plenty of it unfolding out there at the moment.
00:02:55And they know that this is the moment to capitalise.
00:02:58If you can try and put a move together now, it makes a huge difference.
00:03:05Winding into two, three, four and five.
00:03:09Complex, challenging, tricky parts of this racetrack.
00:03:13And that margin is still sitting at around about three to four tenths of a second.
00:03:18Now, there's also a note up here on the bottom of the screen, as you can see.
00:03:22And this is a pretty significant one that Matt Payneau, race winner from earlier in the day.
00:03:26False start noted.
00:03:27And that was trouble just on the shot change.
00:03:29Trouble in the background there.
00:03:34Cooper Murray and David Reynolds together here.
00:03:37Arguing over every last millimetre.
00:03:40And Cam Hill, who was also penalised in that earlier one,
00:03:43also on the run through turn nine.
00:03:45Under pressure down here into turn 11.
00:03:48Talk about vigorous racing.
00:03:50This place just turns it on, doesn't it?
00:03:51Cooper was very high in the middle of turn 11.
00:03:55Sort of double apexing that left-hander down there.
00:03:57A variety of different lines have been in evidence.
00:04:00Is that a crash for Cooper?
00:04:02I'm here.
00:04:06Boston's got almost three quarters of a second now.
00:04:09A little bit of bumper damage on the back of Cooper's car as they cross the line
00:04:11and go back to the leaders.
00:04:12Kostecki in P2.
00:04:14Followed by Feeney and Brown.
00:04:15Lynn Davison next in the queue in position number five for Payne.
00:04:18Randall Waters, Viva Squalier, Stanaway.
00:04:21That's our ten for the moment.
00:04:24Kostecki's made a little bit of ground back on Mostert.
00:04:27Let's have a look at the start replay because you can see the initial jump is actually quite good.
00:04:32But then Brodie, you can see the front of the car bottle.
00:04:34And then straight away, Mostert's able to capitalise, but so was Feeney.
00:04:38So really, Brodie went from first to third off the line.
00:04:42You need to look in all directions there.
00:04:43I was trying to keep a focus on what Matt Payne was doing to understand what his start looked like.
00:04:48But that start from Brock was outstanding.
00:04:51But in fact, he really had nowhere to go.
00:04:54A lot of wheel spin.
00:04:56Huge amount of wheel spin there for Brodie.
00:04:58So Brock got down underneath him here.
00:05:01But the problem was he had nowhere to go because of Chas.
00:05:04And then he's on the wrong side of the road when they get to turn two.
00:05:06I thought they were going to make contact here at turn two.
00:05:09So nice driving by both Brodie and Brock there to give each other racing room.
00:05:13So that's the little jump.
00:05:15That's the one that you were talking about.
00:05:17So that's definitely moved before the start and probably outside the box.
00:05:21But we didn't see where the box line or delineation is.
00:05:23Look at all this.
00:05:24We're riding with Thomas Randall.
00:05:26They're three wide down there.
00:05:27And that gives you a classic bird's eye view of the jostling that goes on.
00:05:30And the cars move around a lot on a cold tyre.
00:05:33So there's an enormous amount of car control and skill involved in trying to manage this.
00:05:38Because you've got a car with no grip.
00:05:39But you've got a heap of people around you that are moving everywhere.
00:05:42You literally need eyes in the back of your head to negotiate this stuff.
00:05:46They are not at the wrangle with 600 horsepower on a cold tyre.
00:05:50How's that?
00:05:50Three wide down here at turn 11.
00:05:53Cool.
00:05:53And this was the bit that we picked up on when I saw Heimgarten just drop that right
00:05:57rear into the gravel on the exit.
00:05:59And he lost it a couple of kilometres an hour on exit in the middle of that process.
00:06:06Now we understand what's going on there.
00:06:08So that was the awkward tangle between Cooper Murray and David Reynolds.
00:06:12And the replay tells us more of the critical story there.
00:06:15Dave actually served him.
00:06:16Well, served him and then straightened him up.
00:06:20Very Queensbury rules of David Reynolds there.
00:06:22So there's the bang.
00:06:25I'll give you a serve up.
00:06:26And now I'll tell you what I'll do.
00:06:27I'll stay in the throttle and I'll just straighten you up.
00:06:30I'm not sure that was intentional or whether it was just a byproduct of an unfolding accident
00:06:34that they were both in the middle of.
00:06:35But we'll take it any which way.
00:06:37So no further investigation flashes up on the screen just at the end of a sequence involving
00:06:43Cooper Murray and David Reynolds play on.
00:06:45Three quarters of a second the gap between Mostert and Kostecki.
00:06:49Fastest car on the last lap, Brodie Kostecki.
00:06:51So although that gap's come out to nine tenths of a second, Brodie's pace is obviously there
00:06:58through the field there.
00:07:00Will Davison's pace also good.
00:07:01He was fourth fastest on the last lap.
00:07:04Okay.
00:07:05Multiple Bathurst champion and series winner.
00:07:08How hard are you going to push your tyres in this one?
00:07:10How bold do you want to be?
00:07:12We're only going to lift them now.
00:07:13So I'll be pressing on.
00:07:15But you know yourself, when you're hurting the tyre, you get a really innate feel for
00:07:20it, don't you?
00:07:22And the way that you minimise that hurt is you keep the flow up and you don't make it
00:07:27wheel spin or slide.
00:07:29And then from then on, who knows?
00:07:33Can I split it, sir?
00:07:34Yeah.
00:07:35It's hard to work out.
00:07:37It's hard to work out for everybody in observation and those that are behind the wheel and those
00:07:41that are in the engineering bunkers at the moment.
00:07:43The drivers are the best qualified to know what they're feeling and understanding and
00:07:47they'll try and drive to the appropriate rhythm.
00:07:50But that is going to be the big question.
00:07:51Under pressure here, we've got Ryan Wood at the moment.
00:07:54He's got a big battle going on.
00:07:57This is going to be ugly.
00:07:58This is going to be ugly.
00:08:00That's the silk panel of Kai Allen, who did a mighty job in that previous one.
00:08:05This is turn nine, evidenced by that little bit of extra concrete apron on the outside of
00:08:10it.
00:08:10Very fast flowing exit on that corner.
00:08:12These fellas are battling just outside the top ten at the moment.
00:08:17Stanaway almost went off the road then.
00:08:18He was so wide in the middle of turn 11.
00:08:21So he's done a good job.
00:08:22Richie Stanaway's up three spots.
00:08:23Randall up three spots.
00:08:27Kai Allen down four.
00:08:29Feels like it's already been a busy race and then I just glimpsed at the top of our computer
00:08:35timing.
00:08:35It says 33 laps to go.
00:08:37And then I was thinking about those tyres going, oh.
00:08:39It's up around 18 plus degrees out there at the moment.
00:08:44It's a classic clear blue sky in the mid-north island here in New Zealand at Topal.
00:08:49It is a beautiful day out there.
00:08:51Huge number of fans enjoying every last second of this.
00:08:54Race control.
00:08:54Attention all teams.
00:08:55Stewards have imposed a five-second penalty to car 19 for a false start.
00:08:59Payne.
00:09:02How fortune's changed so quickly in this business.
00:09:05He's currently sitting in six, so five seconds.
00:09:10Does it confirm?
00:09:12So yeah, so he's sixth.
00:09:14And as this race plays out, we'll work out what that actually does for him with the five-second penalty.
00:09:20Now, Mostert, in the meantime, Neil, has cleared out to almost 1.4 seconds on the last lap.
00:09:25He was the fastest car.
00:09:27So to your point about how you use the tyre, Chas is clearly with clear track.
00:09:33And clear track around here at the moment will be king in terms of not heating the tyre up in behind another car.
00:09:38He's putting that to good effect.
00:09:42Faster slack for the race.
00:09:43And a reminder, because we're in a sprint racing format, there's some little bonuses for that.
00:09:47Five of them.
00:09:48Five points.
00:09:49Credited.
00:09:50And that was Matt Payne in the previous one, adding to the value of a race victory for him.
00:09:56That was wild.
00:09:57This is Ryan Wood, I think, we're on board with.
00:10:03Ah, it's LeBrock, I apologise.
00:10:08So he's bent over.
00:10:09Yeah, that was poor half a mile on the fifth straight ball.
00:10:12Yeah.
00:10:12It's pretty interesting, isn't it?
00:10:17Nice and close to the back of the red ball entry.
00:10:21We're riding now with Will Davison.
00:10:25And looking to capitalise on opportunity in that pre-race interview, talking about how strong they were here last year.
00:10:30But said they carried very little over.
00:10:32Remember, the tyre also means that you invariably end up with a very different set-up scenario with the car.
00:10:38Jump on board with him.
00:10:39And he's just managing traction very cautiously and carefully.
00:10:43Second gear out of that right-hander at turn five to not burst that car into wheelspin.
00:10:46Not slide the car, he didn't seem steering into the slide, catching any oversteer.
00:10:51Just feeding that power gently and progressively.
00:10:53So interesting, Neil, that a 27.5, when Matt Payne won the last race on the soft tyre, he did a 27.5.
00:11:03Fastest lap of this race so far, 28.6 for Boston.
00:11:07So just over a second slower, the super soft tyre.
00:11:10Which was the chat going into the weekend, and that may well be the case.
00:11:14The suitability of the tyre that was used earlier and will be used again tomorrow seems to be very, very good.
00:11:19Yep.
00:11:19And this tyre will be stressed around here.
00:11:22So a few people, interestingly, on this seventh lap in this race, have just done mid-sector personal bests.
00:11:30And a little bit of that will be getting some fresh air around them as well.
00:11:33But it's interesting that they've been able to stitch that together after they've already taken a little bite out of the tyre.
00:11:38Jeez, this thing looks like a handful.
00:11:40That's Will Brown.
00:11:42And he must have put a move on Davison, because Davison was four from the start.
00:11:47He's dropped one spot.
00:11:48So Brown is able to lead Will at the moment, but he has got his hands full.
00:11:55We saw Will give him a bump.
00:11:58So Davison bumped him through turn one on the last lap.
00:12:01Just lost a little bit of ground in the middle of the first sector.
00:12:06But when we were on board there with Will Brown, he has the tiger by the tail with that car.
00:12:12That's got so much oversteer.
00:12:14It's sliding so much in the back of the car.
00:12:16That was the echo up and down the pit lane yesterday in both the practice sessions.
00:12:20So many people had cars that were overly responsive in the turn at the front and loose and challenging in the rear.
00:12:26And he just did it again there.
00:12:27So exciting those rear tyres to that degree, that's going to be an extrapolation that gets worse when you look at that graph.
00:12:33It will get worse with every lap with that tendency in the car.
00:12:37The only way to cure it is to go slower.
00:12:39And that's typically not the mandate for a racing driver.
00:12:422.08 seconds.
00:12:44Mostard over Kostecki at the moment.
00:12:45Brock Feeney third.
00:12:46He'll Brown got that move made.
00:12:47That can help the situation there.
00:12:49Nice and early up into fourth over Will Davison.
00:12:53Matt Payne in sixth with a false start.
00:12:55Five second penalty hanging over his head.
00:12:57Followed by Thomas Randall, Cam Waters, who was searching for some fresh air off the start.
00:13:03What's going on here?
00:13:05So that was Edward saying to Will Brown, keep the bias where it is because obviously it's so oversteery under brakes on the approach to the corner.
00:13:15So he's, I think, saying leave the front brake bias where it was to try to contain some of that initial oversteer.
00:13:23I want to just grab a quick word, if I can, with Mark.
00:13:26Hang on, he's just on the radio.
00:13:27I'll wait for him to finish.
00:13:28They're obviously in...
00:13:30I won't disturb you, mate.
00:13:32But I can see you're in a pretty deep and meaningful, mate.
00:13:35It's not very often, Dutto.
00:13:36I get the chance to come down here and talk about your car looks pretty ugly.
00:13:39It's sliding around out there everywhere.
00:13:41I've seen you try a lot of bits of this weekend.
00:13:43We know that's been going on.
00:13:44But you're only nine laps into, you know, a third of the way into the race, not even.
00:13:48How are you going to make this work?
00:13:50Yeah, well, you see, which car are you talking about?
00:13:52Brownies.
00:13:54Mate, he comes into his own in these races.
00:13:56So it is sliding around a lot here.
00:13:57But he's a bit of a magician when he comes to extending that out.
00:14:01We've seen this last year where he's pulled out a good result working with Andrew to just maximise what you've got.
00:14:07And sometimes you have to nurse it and sometimes it balances out.
00:14:11The cars this weekend, unfortunately, have been super difficult to drive.
00:14:14But we're working hard to tune them up.
00:14:16Dutto, just quickly, for people at home, I've not seen you people work harder than I have this weekend on getting your cars right.
00:14:21You haven't got them perfect yet.
00:14:23And you guys are the best at it for decades.
00:14:25Why is it so hard here?
00:14:27Mate, everyone's just doing such a good job.
00:14:29Like, honestly, like, it wouldn't be that hard if everyone else wasn't so fast.
00:14:33So everyone's doing a cracker job and it just shows you slip a little bit and, yeah, you drop a lot of positions.
00:14:41I'll let you get back to it.
00:14:41Thanks for the chat.
00:14:43On that concept, Will Davison making ground there, splitting the gap between himself, Will Brown and Matty Payne.
00:14:53So I think the point that Mark Dutton makes is a very good one.
00:14:56And it actually goes to what we were discussing yesterday in practice two, Mark, that one of the things that's really evident in the first several races, beginning of the championship season, is that it belongs to nobody, clearly, at the moment.
00:15:06And that's a good thing for us, as enthusiasts, in observation of the sport, loving the idea that it's hard to pick a winner.
00:15:14That's the whole idea.
00:15:15So, and you've got, you know, you come, they do a lot of work between events.
00:15:19You come to the race meeting with what you think is your best foot forward.
00:15:21But often that has you boxed into a corner that's very hard to get out of from a set-up standpoint.
00:15:27And what you don't want to do is play a huge game of thin-the-tail-long donkey of randomly throwing things and you don't know what the outcome's going to be.
00:15:33So they try and make cautious, intelligent change without ruining what they've got.
00:15:39Clearly, at the moment, they've got the prop rolling along pretty nicely.
00:15:42Oh!
00:15:43Will has got his hands full and there's an absolute evidence of it down there at turn 11.
00:15:47And the thing just skated away in the rear, in the middle of the corner, and then he just drops a spot.
00:15:54So he's battling.
00:15:56And that, you'll find...
00:15:5827 to go at the end of this.
00:16:00Oh, yeah, great news. Thanks, Andrew.
00:16:03So, and when you...
00:16:04Keep that to yourself.
00:16:05Yeah, if you could look at the set-up sheets across the various teams, you'll find it's actually not a huge difference,
00:16:11but can ultimately make a big difference in lap speed and longevity and performance.
00:16:15When you've got a car that's an absolute nightmare, it's a dog of a thing, it's a speedway car at the moment.
00:16:22It's tearing the tyres off itself.
00:16:24He's almost gone off the road there at turn 11.
00:16:26And Andrew says to him, just 27 laps to go, brother.
00:16:30That was the wrong time to tell him how much more pain...
00:16:32That's the dentist telling you he's going to do a bit more drilling with no anaesthetic.
00:16:36Yeah.
00:16:40What about for Matt Payne, then?
00:16:41That's when the world just opens up for you.
00:16:43There was no stress involved in that pass, just straight down the inside.
00:16:46But he's also got his own little level of trauma to deal with.
00:16:49He's got the five seconds hanging over him because of a dodgy start.
00:16:542.7 seconds, Mostert over his stickie.
00:16:57He's driving the car straight.
00:16:58He's got fresh air.
00:16:59There's a benefit in that.
00:17:00But how much is he working the tyre to be able to achieve it?
00:17:05Shot of there, Aaron Cameron just chasing his team-mate, James Courtney.
00:17:09Vigorous little battle going on here that involves Cooper Murray, James Golding, Jackson Evans, and then James and Aaron are just in behind.
00:17:16Jeez, there's a lot of evil cars out there, Neil.
00:17:21There are some cars that you would not want to be in.
00:17:24They are oversteering so badly.
00:17:27And the overriding thing coming into the race was that the tyre, the Supersoft tyre, makes the car understeer a lot more.
00:17:34And what they've done is obviously, in terms of the compensation for that, gone too far the other way.
00:17:42There's also the clumsiness of having a lot more fuel on, but what you were saying before in the Hino Hub about the fuel load required to get through the 37 laps.
00:17:51So that makes the car feel lethargic, makes it harder for it to feel agile and responsive.
00:17:59Effectively carrying a passenger.
00:18:01Yeah.
00:18:01So Will's under big pressure here, and the queue forming behind him.
00:18:09Look at it.
00:18:09Is it ever going to end?
00:18:11There's just a heap of cars there.
00:18:13He's got a car that's sliding everywhere.
00:18:15At the same time that he's trying to hold a position, he's trying to arrest the slide, not hurt the tyre anymore.
00:18:21But they're forming up behind him pretty aggressively at the moment.
00:18:23Look at the amount of kerb that's being used down there.
00:18:25It's dragging junk onto the road as well.
00:18:26And the dirtier it gets, the more to the right they have to go.
00:18:29So they're turning him into rally cars down there.
00:18:33Great images.
00:18:34Awesome.
00:18:34Great images.
00:18:35Yeah, awesome.
00:18:37And what it means is if you try and drive on the race line down there, it's just gravel and junk everywhere.
00:18:41You've got absolutely no turning in the car.
00:18:43So when he loses a spot here now, he's going to lose five or six spots in one go.
00:18:48That's sort of what I was getting at.
00:18:49And at some point, one of them will just, there'll be frustration and the pack will get scrambled.
00:18:54Mark?
00:18:54You're going to be used to see what plays up here.
00:18:57The Red Bull guys are getting agitated down here.
00:18:58They're out on the pit lane, sort of half ready.
00:19:01But just remember, for 30 years, guys, when this circumstance happened, we'd just grab our anti-roll bar, wouldn't we?
00:19:07In the cockpit, drag it back, full soft on the rear.
00:19:10Right, that'll keep me going for 10 laps.
00:19:11That's gone.
00:19:12Yeah, you've got to live with what you've got now.
00:19:15And that does make it very, very hard.
00:19:16It's just not a simple thing to overcome.
00:19:19So thermally, that rear tyre's hurting at the moment on his car.
00:19:24Big pressure here for Waters from Stanaway as well through Turn 1.
00:19:29Absolutely nose to tail.
00:19:32Chas just keeps on skipping away.
00:19:34He's out for three seconds now.
00:19:35I don't think Cam Waters' car's particularly nice either, because he was right up in behind Thomas Randall there before.
00:19:42He's lost that spot to Anton.
00:19:44It's got a lot of oversteer also, but it's got a lot of entry understeer too.
00:19:48In the low-speed corners, he's got a lot of lock on.
00:19:51And when he turns then, after the front sort of takes a set, then it becomes an oversteering monster on the exit of the corner.
00:19:59Chet?
00:20:00Scaifey, one guy with a keen eye on this battle is Richie Stanaway's engineering team down here at Premier High Racing,
00:20:06because Ludo Lacroix actually takes a bit of a back seat when it comes to the races.
00:20:09And that lets Andrew Gilliam, who's the man who's alongside him in the bunker right now,
00:20:14take more of a role in this team of managing Richie Stanaway's race strategy.
00:20:18This gives Ludo the chance to watch over both James Golding's car, who's doing a little bit worse for wear in this one as well,
00:20:23as they get this made right now with Richie Stanaway, so they'll be pretty happy about that.
00:20:27So that is a good opportunity for Ludo to just stand back and just also coach Andrew Gilliam a bit more.
00:20:32And Richie just moved himself into the top ten now, moving up into ninth position strongly.
00:20:37He's got a bit of fresh air in front of him, which he can probably use to capitalise with here as well.
00:20:41So Anton again, looking very strong.
00:20:44This is a good move there. He was able to put a move there on Randall.
00:20:48He's got genuine pace.
00:20:49And that balance of that car is far better than any of the others that are in that mad pack in behind Will Brown.
00:20:58So what you'll find now is that Anton will do the run here through two, three, four across the kerb.
00:21:06Probably have a look at whether he can get a move made on the way down the hill into five.
00:21:10There's the spot right there, and he does. Nicely done.
00:21:15Well orchestrated. He set that up. He had to get himself sorted there.
00:21:18He had to flow the car through there nicely, and he was able to get that done.
00:21:22Thomas Randall slides his way by Will Brown also.
00:21:25So this other angry pack of five or six cars in behind, they'll all grab Will too in a second.
00:21:31So it drops a couple of spots easily.
00:21:35And it just happens so fast when the pack just monsters you.
00:21:38Jack LeBrock, 13th position.
00:21:43And so they're having to react here to do something.
00:21:48Red Bull preparing down there. Red Bull Lampole Racing preparing down here to try and deal with the problem
00:21:53because the problem's really exaggerated now.
00:21:55And he's going to drop another couple of spots because water's going to get him in.
00:21:59In fact, Heimgarten is going to play into this as well.
00:22:01Three wide here as they make their run down the back.
00:22:03So Brown really battling here at the moment.
00:22:06Three cars into the braking area at turn 12.
00:22:10And Heimgarten down the inside, done.
00:22:13Brown loses more spots.
00:22:15It's waters in between. LeBrock's going to grab him as well.
00:22:17Are they going to peel him off? They are. They bring him in.
00:22:19They've had enough.
00:22:20Now he's in the same circumstance as Mostert because Mostert has dumped heaps of time in the last couple of laps.
00:22:260.7 of a second to a second.
00:22:29Kostecki's come back at him.
00:22:30So Mostert's tyres have dropped off a cliff.
00:22:33And so have Will Brown's.
00:22:37Let's have a look at his stopper Brown.
00:22:38Because when you've got cars stacked up behind you like that, it's got to be bang on.
00:22:42Now the Red Bull guys stop front on the left-hand side.
00:22:44And they're down the back on the other side.
00:22:46They switch it like this so they're never khaki-handed.
00:22:49Now straightaway, that's not good letting that tyre roll around.
00:22:52He's right on the mark.
00:22:54It's a little bit untidy by Red Bull standards.
00:22:56Still pretty fast though.
00:22:59It happens in a hurry, doesn't it?
00:23:00Huge pressure.
00:23:01So this is a big and exciting battle going on here between Ryan Wood and Kai Allen as well.
00:23:05Kai did a beautiful job in that previous race today.
00:23:07And he's really finding his stride at Penrite Racing at the moment.
00:23:10And he's skipped away.
00:23:12Bunnies trade power pass.
00:23:14There's been plenty going on out there.
00:23:15And this was the pass that Mark set up before.
00:23:18Sensor coming down the inside of turn five.
00:23:20And then Squally nicely done.
00:23:22As Brown really battles to hang on to car number one.
00:23:24And Thomas Randall took advantage there as well on the next turn.
00:23:28Straight down the inside.
00:23:29Really well set up.
00:23:31And you've just got to try to orchestrate that.
00:23:34You've got to set it up from the corner before and park the car in the right spot.
00:23:38Anton did it beautifully.
00:23:40And then what about that pass from Heimgartner?
00:23:43Three abreast down the back straight.
00:23:45Was able to pass Waters and Brown in the one go.
00:23:48So there's a lot of cars that are really struggling at the moment.
00:23:52And what we're seeing is a really diverse strategy around who can make the tyre live at this really pivotal point of the race.
00:23:59The big winner in that huge battle pack was a guy not even in the battle pack.
00:24:03Matt Payne with all the squabbling behind him has gained a huge chunk of time.
00:24:07And is actually six and a half seconds ahead now of Anton Di Pasquale.
00:24:09So pit stop's coming.
00:24:10Matt Payne could serve his five seconds and not even lose a spot.
00:24:13And Brad Tremaine is back in a supercars paddock.
00:24:16Former team principal here at Erebus Motorsport left at the end of last year to head over to the US to try his hand at working an Indy car.
00:24:23But like all good people in the supercars paddock, they find their way back.
00:24:27He's just here on a holiday.
00:24:28He said he's in an unofficial capacity.
00:24:30But look, he's got the stopwatch on.
00:24:31He's watching the pit stop.
00:24:32He's very much enjoying being back for the weekend.
00:24:35Thanks for the update, gang.
00:24:37Aim of the game here for those that continue on the racetrack at the moment is to try and crack that halfway point.
00:24:43Try and get themselves past the midway point of a 37 lap race.
00:24:48It's Feeney.
00:24:50He was battling to stay on the road then.
00:24:52He was battling to stay on the road.
00:24:54He turned it in to turn 11 and the whole car escaped wide and he had no control of the car.
00:25:00So those tyres have degraded to such an extent that they've got almost no grip at that pivotal low grip corner coming onto the back straight.
00:25:09So setup plays a huge role.
00:25:12But so does those who are the tyre caressers.
00:25:16Those that just love those tyres really gently and just very kind to them throughout.
00:25:21That's what you've got to do to try and make the things live and not ask too much of any of the loaded corners of the car too soon.
00:25:28And there's the gap.
00:25:31So as you can see there, that number now, I reported a second ago, two seconds, it's now 1.1.
00:25:37Cam Waters.
00:25:38Now he was the one that was behind this battle pack when all this was unfolding.
00:25:42So we saw Randall get down the inside also on Will Brown.
00:25:47And then Cam Waters was parked in behind Stanaway in that exchange.
00:25:51So Matt Payne, this is a replay, very, very easy pass on Brock Feeney.
00:26:00In fact, Matt Payne's car looks very good at this point of the race.
00:26:03So to Chad's point earlier, he's effectively made ground on the field.
00:26:10And he's going to be strong as this race unfolds.
00:26:15Kai Allen straight down the inside also.
00:26:17And Waters knows he's a shot duck.
00:26:19He's just got to park himself at the moment and get to whatever the point is that they're going to change the tyre.
00:26:23And further to that move that we just took on Brock Feeney a moment ago, guys, he's so out on his feet right now.
00:26:29He said to his team on the radio, just so you guys know, I'm about to loop this thing.
00:26:33So he is absolutely on the edge for Car 88 right now.
00:26:36Well, that's what it looked like.
00:26:36He was going to spin.
00:26:37He was going to spin at turn 11.
00:26:38This is for the lead.
00:26:40Mostert, Kostecki, that big buffer that was out to three seconds has diminished to a car length now.
00:26:46And Kostecki is swamping Chas Mostert, whose tyres have clearly seen their best.
00:26:51Come look at the lap times.
00:26:54So his fastest lap is a 28.63.
00:26:57The last lap was a 31.6.
00:26:59So three seconds slower.
00:27:01Here we go.
00:27:02Here we go.
00:27:02Down the inside forces the issue at turn five and Kostecki to the lead.
00:27:07You could sense it coming and he just demanded that he was going through there.
00:27:12Make way.
00:27:14That's a strange angle.
00:27:15That's an awkward angle.
00:27:16Terrible angle.
00:27:17What happened there?
00:27:18Was there anything behind?
00:27:19I'm not sure.
00:27:20It might have been other winners.
00:27:21Ties out.
00:27:22Yeah.
00:27:23We're going to have to merge behind this one.
00:27:25Go, go, go.
00:27:26They moved that cone.
00:27:28See how that cone was a driver before?
00:27:29That cone's been pushed down further.
00:27:31I was surprised when I saw it earlier.
00:27:33It was super awkward.
00:27:35Cold news tide.
00:27:38Thomas Randall departs.
00:27:40About a third of the field have taken their compulsory stop.
00:27:44Brodick-Stick is our leader already with a one-second margin over Mostert.
00:27:47There it is.
00:27:49There it is.
00:27:49That's what it looks like.
00:27:51So what do you do here with Kostecki and Mostert?
00:27:54Do you put the white flag up and come in and do the undercut?
00:27:58Or, because you know you've still got 20 laps remaining.
00:28:00So the problem is, the drama you've got going right now, it's going to reoccur.
00:28:06Well, at the wrong end of proceedings, when the chocolates are handed out after 37 laps.
00:28:11All right, so just under our feet, we've got our leaders are now in.
00:28:17So that answers your question, Mark.
00:28:19They're living for the now.
00:28:20They're dealing with it.
00:28:23This will be critical.
00:28:27Mostert's sweating on the back.
00:28:28Kostecki peels off into his bay.
00:28:31They're in very close proximity.
00:28:33It's an awkward angle for Mostert.
00:28:35That's an awkward angle.
00:28:37It's going to be awkward for Kostecki to get back out too, I think.
00:28:40Get ready, get ready.
00:28:40Get ready to go.
00:28:41So it's getting close there to McDonald.
00:28:43And they've got him.
00:28:45Yep, yep.
00:28:46There's a car length in it when they came in.
00:28:50There's a car length in it when they come out.
00:28:52And unfortunately, just because of the congestion and the angle of the arrival,
00:28:56because of the other wheels and tyres out there,
00:28:58that made that right front change very awkward.
00:29:01You could see whomever was on that right front guard were really pinched.
00:29:05Yeah, so what happened there is Chas Mostert had to come around the Shell V-Power pit box
00:29:08to get into here.
00:29:09And Chas came in so hot, he locked the front brake
00:29:12and actually slid into the pit box and parked it at 45 degrees.
00:29:15So all the guys had to readjust before they could even start with the tyre change.
00:29:19Yeah, and the problem there, you've got 20 kilos of wheel and tyre.
00:29:22You've got to move them potentially to get them back into position.
00:29:24Yeah.
00:29:25And then there's not a lot of lateral space down there,
00:29:28not a lot of elbow room to be able to get the wheel and tyre off
00:29:31and then the other one back on.
00:29:33In fact, I watched pit stop practice this morning up and down the lane.
00:29:36And it's impressive.
00:29:36Check this out.
00:29:38That was wild.
00:29:39That was wild.
00:29:40Jackson Evans had a massive amount of oversteer, wheel spin,
00:29:47and he just cut himself out of the way as Kaseki was able to get by.
00:29:51He's on a fresh tyre and being harried by Chas Mostert.
00:29:55So they're in a different race compared to what Jackson's dealing with at the moment
00:29:59as Will Davison now comes in from a handy third position.
00:30:02Now, remember in history, what we have learnt with this super soft tyre
00:30:05is not going too hard too early on the tyre.
00:30:08So they've got to be really careful.
00:30:10They don't race each other too hard now because you'll get hurt.
00:30:13Later in the run, the tyres will fall off a cliff.
00:30:16Cuddle it in the beginning.
00:30:17So we've just got to be really careful about how hard you use the tyre early.
00:30:30And that's the gap.
00:30:30They've got a massive gap over the field.
00:30:33They're pushing hard.
00:30:3918 laps to go.
00:30:40So we're just crossing over the halfway mark now.
00:30:43I talked about pushing hard.
00:30:45Just watch this very carefully.
00:30:46So have a look at Brodie there.
00:30:48Do you see the Scando flick coming into the pit lane?
00:30:50So watch, watch, watch, watch.
00:30:52Bang.
00:30:52Pushing hard into the wall.
00:30:53That's right next to the commentary box.
00:30:56So he pushed it that hard that he's ended up putting scuffs down the side.
00:31:00And we're on board with him now.
00:31:01Let's ride and listen.
00:31:03How's the slide?
00:31:04Check it out.
00:31:09Actually, he's dodging cars in New Zealand.
00:31:11That is...
00:31:12But that just shows you.
00:31:14So Mostert now down the inside.
00:31:16Mostert has just emerged.
00:31:18He's lobbed at the turn four and fired himself down the inside.
00:31:23So he must have got a run off the turn two, turn three curb and has fired down the inside.
00:31:29Watch this.
00:31:29So a little bit of curb through three.
00:31:33Has a slider that goes bang, straight down the inside.
00:31:37That's as forceful as I've seen Mostert for a long time.
00:31:40Had a bit of authority about it.
00:31:41And he was crossed up on the way.
00:31:42In the meantime, Matt Payne's come in out of what was the inherited lead.
00:31:46There's something metallic was floating after the contact as well.
00:31:49So I'll have a look at that.
00:31:51Deep Esquale.
00:31:53Team 80, DeWalt.
00:31:55Ah, they've got a problem on the left.
00:31:57Ah.
00:31:58The last thing you need in a sprint race like this.
00:32:01Hold one back on.
00:32:01Hold one back on.
00:32:02Oh, you can't put the old way back on.
00:32:05That would be horrendous.
00:32:07Okay.
00:32:07See you go in the drop.
00:32:08Straight to the fast lane.
00:32:09Balance of that car.
00:32:10It'll be a dog for the next 17 laps.
00:32:16Andre Heimgartner is our race leader.
00:32:18He won the race on Saturday in 2024.
00:32:20He's got a three-second margin over Kai Allen.
00:32:22Chas Mostert is next.
00:32:24And he's the first car in the queue that's taken the compulsory stop
00:32:27after barrelling past Brody Kostecki in a wild move.
00:32:30But my mind is immediately arcing to the end of this race.
00:32:36They are going to be hanging by their fingernails, G2.
00:32:39So for Anton Di Pasquale,
00:32:41remember we only have two sets of super soft tyres.
00:32:44So the set you pull off and the set you put on.
00:32:46Therefore, you have no spares available.
00:32:48If you cross thread a wheel nut,
00:32:50you either have to change the nut or put the wheel back on.
00:32:53And that's what Anton had to do.
00:32:55So he's going to be a whole world of pain
00:32:56with the left front for the rest of this one.
00:32:58Yeah, that would not be a nice car to drive.
00:33:00Fastest lap of the race at the moment belonging to this man.
00:33:03He's got five bonus points and he hits the queue at the moment.
00:33:05But can he get this car and stretch the tyre life
00:33:09without pushing too aggressively
00:33:11and get it to the end of 37 laps
00:33:13as Heimgartner and Allen now come in
00:33:15revealing this fellow in the lead.
00:33:18Great race so far.
00:33:19Plenty of energy.
00:33:20Biff and Barge.
00:33:22Big intensity and an enormous question mark
00:33:24over how they treat the tyres to get to the end.
00:33:27Heimgartner done.
00:33:28Brad Jones Racing have been handy
00:33:30with their Pertitec pit stop competition performance.
00:33:37Kai Allen in the background cycling out as well.
00:33:40My reckoning says that's everybody done now.
00:33:44So just keep an eye on those two
00:33:45because they've pushed their tyres further.
00:33:48Heimgartner and Allen
00:33:49which means that they've got a shorter stint on this tyre set
00:33:52as they settle back into the mid pack.
00:33:54Just make a little mental note.
00:33:56You might see them float a little bit further north near the back end.
00:33:59Yep.
00:34:00Any time that you can make that first run longer
00:34:03and shorten the next stint
00:34:06is going to be a benefit.
00:34:08But I'm worried about how hard those two guys went straight away.
00:34:12They've got a massive gain over everybody else.
00:34:14They've got seven and a half seconds
00:34:15over Brock Feeney.
00:34:21We're looking for the Brock Feeney stop here as well
00:34:24which we commented on at the time
00:34:25because of the awkward angle.
00:34:26So we wondered about the tyres affecting his entry.
00:34:29So he's ended up at a significant number of degrees
00:34:32inbound at the front.
00:34:35The nose of the car is in.
00:34:36and the back of the car is sticking out
00:34:37and that was a challenge.
00:34:38It was even worse for Mostert.
00:34:42And the other thing that is
00:34:43floating around the back of my mind is an issue.
00:34:46I wonder whether or not there's any bruising on Car 38.
00:34:49We're not seeing any evidence of it at the moment
00:34:51but if you hit the tyres that hard
00:34:52there's always the possibility of some steering damage
00:34:55and a change to the toe on the front of the car
00:34:57but whatever he's done to it might be working at the moment.
00:34:59So he's putting a bit of reverse pressure back on Mostert now.
00:35:02Return of serve.
00:35:03Whack, whack.
00:35:04I'm here.
00:35:06Yeah, I think he might have been fortunate
00:35:08that it slid itself into the tyres.
00:35:11Here we go.
00:35:12Here we go.
00:35:12And he's done the exact same pass.
00:35:15Did he run off?
00:35:15Oh, he's off the road.
00:35:17And now Mostert back down the inside at five.
00:35:19This is great stuff.
00:35:21And he's putting him into the paddock
00:35:22on the way out of five.
00:35:24These guys are duking it out.
00:35:26This is great.
00:35:26These are heavyweights slugging it
00:35:28corner to corner at the moment.
00:35:30You serve me, I'll serve you back.
00:35:33Elbows up.
00:35:34And this is hardcore pressure racing with 15 to go
00:35:38and this will reignite when they get back together again at some point.
00:35:42So two of the hardheads of the heavyweights.
00:35:46Mostert not surrendering, nor is Brodie.
00:35:49They are at it.
00:35:51This is turn 11.
00:35:52And that's one second between them once again
00:35:54after being absolutely together on the road.
00:35:57How's Kostecki putting the exact same move on
00:36:01as what Mostert did to him a couple of laps ago.
00:36:03Watch this.
00:36:04Straight down the inside.
00:36:05Bang!
00:36:06Then he can't get it slowed up.
00:36:07Then he got wide because of the rally cross track.
00:36:10Then he's out in the Mulga.
00:36:12Now he's on the outside.
00:36:13And Chas said, you should be a bit further, I think.
00:36:16There's a lot of junk on the tyres for Brodie Kostecki.
00:36:19Oh, he served him up.
00:36:21He gave him a fair whack.
00:36:22That's why there's a bit of spirit in this
00:36:24and it was existing earlier in the race as well.
00:36:27So it predates.
00:36:29Great on-board shots here.
00:36:30Check it out.
00:36:31Watch this.
00:36:31Watch this.
00:36:32Watch this.
00:36:33Whack!
00:36:33Here we go.
00:36:33Down the inside.
00:36:34But he couldn't control it.
00:36:36Got onto the dirty stuff.
00:36:37Fell off into the rubble.
00:36:39Chas comes back up the inside
00:36:40and makes sure that he stays there.
00:36:43Yeah.
00:36:44And remember with the Supersoft tyre,
00:36:46you've got a lot more of that marbling effect.
00:36:48The outside of the road is dirtier on this tyre.
00:36:51Check this out.
00:36:52Straight down there.
00:36:54Now he tries to gather it up.
00:36:55He did actually miss the apex by a fair way
00:36:57because he was going so fast.
00:36:59He was going in there come hell or high water.
00:37:01So whatever it was going to take to park a tonne and a half in there
00:37:04was the mission.
00:37:05The apex wasn't a consideration at that point.
00:37:08So, and then he's out there in the rough stuff for a while.
00:37:12Not grateful.
00:37:12I can imagine the stress levels inside the garages for both of them,
00:37:16for both outfits.
00:37:18Sam's happy about that.
00:37:21Have a look at the tyre damage on the right-hand side of Kostecki's car.
00:37:25There's witness marks all down the right-hand side
00:37:28after smashing into those tyres at pit entry.
00:37:31And Brock Feeney took a huge chunk of time.
00:37:35You guys were talking about how far back he had fallen.
00:37:37He took three seconds out of Brody Kostecki on that lap
00:37:40where they're all duking it out.
00:37:41So he's now inside four seconds to the back of car 38.
00:37:44Have a look at the damage down the right-hand side of Brody's car.
00:37:47And on that lap then,
00:37:48Chas Mostert just did his own personal best middle sector as well.
00:37:50So he's hitting the gas pedal.
00:37:52Brody's added a bit more rubber to the car,
00:37:53which might come in handy at the back end of this.
00:37:55So on the last lap, 23rd and 24th,
00:37:58Mostert and Kostecki.
00:38:00They were the slowest cars in the field
00:38:01because they were so busy trying to assassinate each other
00:38:05that they had no pace.
00:38:08And the net effect of that is the four seconds
00:38:10that Feeney's come back into contention with.
00:38:13And the next group of cars,
00:38:17Will Davison, not too far behind either.
00:38:19He's only a second back from Feeney.
00:38:21So it has been another wild display
00:38:26on this mad layout.
00:38:29Stanaway's up seven spots, Neil.
00:38:32Forwards up six spots.
00:38:35Reynolds up five.
00:38:37They're the real winners.
00:38:39There's a fair few of the Blossom spots there too.
00:38:41Cam Waters down seven positions.
00:38:43Nick Perkett up seven to Olso.
00:38:45Nice work, Matt Payne then.
00:38:46Just cleared Tom Randall
00:38:48and Stanaway in behind.
00:38:49We're looking at him right now
00:38:50from the rear bumper of the Castrol car.
00:38:53Then it's Ryan Wood
00:38:54and Bryce Bullwood in behind him in the top ten.
00:38:57So the margin first to second's gone back out
00:38:59to 1.70 seconds
00:39:00while they just take a breather
00:39:02and figure out what comes next.
00:39:03We've got 13 laps to go
00:39:04if you look at the totem top left of screen.
00:39:07The spread across the top ten cars is 20 seconds.
00:39:13Yeah, copy, copy.
00:39:1512 and a half to go.
00:39:17Nice.
00:39:17Super fast.
00:39:18So when you think about it, Neil,
00:39:22how severely the tyre dropped off
00:39:25two or three laps before they all pitted,
00:39:30that then, as history will repeat,
00:39:33is going to be about five laps from the end.
00:39:35So right now we've got 12 laps remaining
00:39:37and everyone there coming in at that time,
00:39:41you're going to have a similar phenomenon
00:39:43in terms of the tyre condition later on.
00:39:45Keep an eye on Will Davison here as well.
00:39:47Quickest car on the last lap,
00:39:48sitting in fourth position
00:39:49and he's only a second away from Doc Feeney.
00:39:52So car number 17,
00:39:53Jack Currier's entering this weekend.
00:39:55He's got some pace.
00:39:56Talked about it pre-race,
00:39:57being able to apply it.
00:39:59And he's doing it nicely at the moment.
00:40:00And a two-lap tyre at Boundage, remember?
00:40:03Yeah.
00:40:03So that's a nice position to be in
00:40:08versus Feeney.
00:40:09Feeney in on 16,
00:40:11Davison in on 18.
00:40:12So that is also helping Matt Payne's cause here as well.
00:40:21Kai Allen's on a very good lap out there at the moment,
00:40:24such that he might end up snatching
00:40:25the fastest lap of the race.
00:40:26That's worth five points if he can pull that off.
00:40:32You can see the graphic at the moment
00:40:34confirming that Chas has currently got that crown.
00:40:37He's got the fastest lap,
00:40:38but I reckon if Kai can go on with the slap,
00:40:40he might ruin that story.
00:40:42Gee, there's a lot of engineering chat
00:40:44to drivers at the moment
00:40:45about what they've got to do
00:40:47to look after the tyre
00:40:49and how far they're going to run
00:40:50and who's got pace.
00:40:52So they're all talking,
00:40:53the top four or five teams
00:40:55are all on the radio
00:40:56making sure the driver knows
00:40:57exactly what pace they're doing
00:40:59relative to the ones around them.
00:41:02And I just checked in with Premier Racing
00:41:03in regards to Richie Stanaway.
00:41:05I spoke to Luda Lacroix.
00:41:06They have only put two tyres on that car,
00:41:08two rear tyres.
00:41:09They said they took a punt.
00:41:10They're not exactly sure
00:41:11if that was the right way to go.
00:41:12Yeah, that's a tough deal, that one.
00:41:19Very difficult to imagine
00:41:21that you could get that sort of object.
00:41:23Yeah, the track will continue to improve.
00:41:24Might be also just cooling out
00:41:25a little bit later in the day here as well.
00:41:27That may help that chord slightly,
00:41:29but that's a bold manoeuvre.
00:41:321.8 seconds gap,
00:41:33lost it over to Stecchi.
00:41:34And he didn't get there in the end,
00:41:38Kai Allen,
00:41:38when I was talking out the prospect
00:41:40of the fastest lap.
00:41:41The last second got away from him,
00:41:42but it was a personal best for him.
00:41:44So the quickest lap still stays
00:41:46in the hands of Chas Mostat at the moment.
00:41:49That's his own drone.
00:41:50Gives us a great view of the twists and turns
00:41:52of Topor International Motor Raceway,
00:41:54particularly through turns 4, 5, 6, 7.
00:41:59Busy part of the racetrack
00:42:00takes an enormous fight out of the tyres.
00:42:02Jack LeBlock on screen here
00:42:03for tyre power.
00:42:05And Nick Perkout in behind him.
00:42:07Perkout's recovered a bit.
00:42:08He's up into 14th position here,
00:42:10so he's made some decent ground.
00:42:11He's looking on that last lap.
00:42:15He spoke about Kai Allen being the fastest car.
00:42:18His teammate was the second fastest car,
00:42:20Matt Payne.
00:42:20So those cars seem to have good tyre longevity.
00:42:24Perkout's up seven spots
00:42:26from where he qualified.
00:42:27So race pace is good.
00:42:28The quality pace is not where it needs to be.
00:42:32We're riding with him at the moment,
00:42:34coming into that braking area
00:42:35into the 12, 13, 14 complex.
00:42:37And we're looking at the snout of Kai Allen's car.
00:42:42There's a few of them out there
00:42:43worse for wear panel-wise at the moment.
00:42:44If you look carefully at the front and rear bunkers,
00:42:46they've all seen better days in most cases.
00:42:48I think they've been in like a war zone, isn't it?
00:42:50It doesn't help with the sandblasting at Turn 4, either.
00:42:54The amount of dirt and corruption
00:42:55that comes in through the front of the car
00:42:57in that spot.
00:42:59I'm just about to say where Mostert and Kosticki are.
00:43:02Remember in the previous stint
00:43:03that Mostert had about three seconds on Kosticki
00:43:07and then Kosticki come back
00:43:09right at the end of that run.
00:43:11That number now is 2.2 down the inside.
00:43:13Kai Allen, nice move.
00:43:15Nick tried to just squeeze him down
00:43:17and they were both at nothing like their normal pace
00:43:20by the time they got through Turn 4.
00:43:21But things stayed as they were.
00:43:23But it brought the rest of the pack in
00:43:25to that battle big time.
00:43:27Chad?
00:43:30Oh, Ryan Wood getting down the inside
00:43:32just on the two-tire Britchie Stanaway car.
00:43:35Just on Paredi Kosticki, guys.
00:43:37I just quizzed George Commons on the tyre life of that car.
00:43:40He hurt so much of the tyre in the battle with Chas Mostert.
00:43:42And he also said something's not quite right
00:43:44since the contact with the pit entry wall as well.
00:43:46I mean, he hit it hard
00:43:48and there was a little bit of front involved in that as well.
00:43:51But it started through like 100 metres earlier
00:43:54because he had the thing on the slide early
00:43:57and then really lucky the tyres were there
00:44:00because otherwise he probably would have ended up in the con box.
00:44:03A little bit of a smash into the gut right there.
00:44:04Exactly.
00:44:06When Chad just referred to Stanaway's car
00:44:08as the two-tired car, does that mean...?
00:44:11Meaning they only put two on it.
00:44:12Oh!
00:44:13As distinct from being a bicycle.
00:44:15Oh, right.
00:44:16I think it's ambiguous.
00:44:19It's definitely two-tired, all right.
00:44:21Or it could be T-O-O-T-I-R-E-D.
00:44:24I think it is.
00:44:25Too tired.
00:44:26Exactly.
00:44:28Two and a half seconds gap, Mostert, Kostecki.
00:44:31Feeney in position number three.
00:44:33And we're doing the power of good
00:44:34if you can grab some points out of that.
00:44:37Will Davison, Will Brown, Matt Payne, Tom Randall,
00:44:40Brian Wood, Richie Stanaway, and Andre Heimgartner.
00:44:44That's our ten at the moment.
00:44:4623 seconds spans those top ten cars.
00:44:48We've got nine to go.
00:44:49Good battle emerging between Feeney and Davison
00:44:52who are catching Kostecki.
00:44:54So right now there's only one second
00:44:56between Kostecki and Feeney
00:44:59and right in behind, 0.6 of a second away,
00:45:01Will Davison in the second of the DJR Mustang.
00:45:05So that is shaping up as a fair battle.
00:45:12We're entering the zone in the race here
00:45:14where the pain's about to commence.
00:45:17And if we use the previous stint as a guide,
00:45:23it's from about here on in
00:45:24that you're going to have to be very, very careful.
00:45:26Jack O'Brock's moved up the spot on Bryce Fullwood.
00:45:32So Matt Payne clipping Will Brown there in that manoeuvre.
00:45:35He's just been mighty this weekend, hasn't he?
00:45:40Matt, that's been a great performance, Garth.
00:45:42Neil, you mentioned we're entering a zone of the race
00:45:45where the rear tyre's going to be in a world of hurt.
00:45:47I saw a lot of rear tyres come off cars
00:45:50that had no compound left on them at the pit stop.
00:45:53And that was before the midway point of the race.
00:45:56And the worst one was Will Brown.
00:45:57They actually radioed him and said,
00:45:59mate, there was no compound left on the rears.
00:46:02So keep an eye on this one because the last three or four laps,
00:46:05the tyre has the potential to hit what they call the cliff
00:46:08where there is no compound left
00:46:10and the car is almost undriveable.
00:46:13And as for Brody Kostecki,
00:46:14we talked about something feeling not quite right.
00:46:16We think that not quite right thing
00:46:17is a potential tow link coming loose at the front of the 38.
00:46:20Remember what happened to Ryan Wood?
00:46:21Practice one.
00:46:22A little piece worked its way out of the front end of that car.
00:46:25Be a very nervous team down there at Jet Curious
00:46:27watching that 38 get to the end of the race.
00:46:28And he's under pressure right now as you speak.
00:46:31So he's drifted now substantially.
00:46:33Three and a half seconds is the lead gap
00:46:36between Mostert and Kostecki.
00:46:38And it's such a shame because it looked like
00:46:40we're going to have a wild battle all the way to the flag.
00:46:42But I did wonder out loud whether or not that arrival
00:46:45that ultimately saw him in the tyre wall down here
00:46:47was going to be something that he had to pay a price for.
00:46:52That's the margin first to second.
00:46:53You can quite clearly see here.
00:46:54But it's up for grabs for P234 here at the moment.
00:46:59And of that group of cars that we're looking at at the moment,
00:47:01oh, Brodie just runs super wide.
00:47:04Will Davison's actually the quickest if he can find the gap.
00:47:06He's got good pace in that car at the moment.
00:47:08He has.
00:47:09And he's a sage player when it comes to tyre line.
00:47:11So the other part could play a role
00:47:19in what might be this steering drama that Kostecki will have
00:47:23is not just the pit entry issue that he had,
00:47:27but he had significant contact with Mostert twice.
00:47:29So there was two or three of those occasions
00:47:33that you could have had your own steering problem
00:47:35from either of those incidents.
00:47:37Or all of the above.
00:47:38Yes, exactly.
00:47:40Boys, really quickly while that's going on,
00:47:42Mark Dutton just grabbed me and pointed out, quite rightly,
00:47:45a bit of a, you saw Feeney,
00:47:46cost him a lot of time at that last pit stop.
00:47:48Have a look at this tyre.
00:47:50They've put in a complaint about it.
00:47:51This tyre, keep going.
00:47:55Tyre back here where Tickford is there.
00:47:57It is there, it was just there.
00:47:58Keep it rolling.
00:47:59Keep that vision rolling.
00:48:00And you'll see the tyre there.
00:48:01Now there's a rule about where the tyres can be on the pit lane
00:48:03relative to the axles of the car.
00:48:05And that's not there.
00:48:06So there you go.
00:48:07That one there, right there.
00:48:09So look at the angle he's had to come in.
00:48:10Really hurt him.
00:48:11Yeah, his entry angle was really challenging there.
00:48:15Mostert, Feeney, Davison, Kostecki now,
00:48:17after being a vigorous contender for the lead,
00:48:20is now sitting in fourth position.
00:48:225.6 seconds off the lead.
00:48:24But this little battle here,
00:48:26a bit of friction building.
00:48:27Let's see whether Will Davison can capitalise
00:48:29and sneak down on Feeney.
00:48:33He's reading part numbers on the rear bumper of that car
00:48:35through turn one.
00:48:37Meantime, Chaz is disappearing down the road here.
00:48:40And then Feeney's had some bad luck so far in the season.
00:48:43Remember he had the puncture at Sydney Motorsport Park.
00:48:46Then he had a jammed wheel nut in one of the stops.
00:48:49Then he got caught up with Cooper Murray late in the race.
00:48:52And Mostert took third spot off him in one of the races there.
00:48:55He was on the front row for the aborted race at the Melbourne Grand Prix,
00:49:01which you would have said at that time that was going to be a spot
00:49:05from the front row of the grid that you were going to be able to capitalise
00:49:08on some points.
00:49:08So he's had a pretty unfortunate run so far.
00:49:12So what Feeney doesn't want to do here now
00:49:14is if he can't finish in front of Davison without any drama,
00:49:18just let him by.
00:49:19Make sure that you stay in this fight.
00:49:21Because you don't want to get punted off
00:49:23with six laps remaining.
00:49:26Remember what we saw a little while ago?
00:49:28He's run a little bit wide.
00:49:30But the Mustang's definitely better at the moment
00:49:32around the mid part of the corner.
00:49:35He's certainly vulnerable.
00:49:36Yeah.
00:49:37So he'll have another look down here.
00:49:40Hard to do down here unless you're well and truly alongside
00:49:43through the last complex of these three corners.
00:49:46But I reckon by the time we get another quarter of a lap done here
00:49:49and we get back down to turn four or five,
00:49:52then he's half a chance, little Davison.
00:49:55Might do it now.
00:49:56He might even make that happen earlier.
00:49:57Here we go, thinking, thinking about it.
00:50:00Not quite.
00:50:02Brock's doing a nice job of car placement here.
00:50:05And it covers him when they get down here to turn two.
00:50:09So here's the opportunity.
00:50:11If he's in the right spot for Will.
00:50:14Oh, he's giving him a bit of a helping hand
00:50:16and trying to get positioned in such a way
00:50:18that he could sneak up the inside at five.
00:50:20It didn't work.
00:50:21A nice car placement, true to a placement there for Feeney
00:50:26to keep him at bay in a couple of areas
00:50:28where there's big vulnerability.
00:50:30Will probably didn't need to smash into the back of him
00:50:33so hard there at that point.
00:50:35See how much ground they've lost back to Kostecki.
00:50:37So when you're involved in a battle like that,
00:50:40you just lose so much time.
00:50:41Chad?
00:50:42Well, I think the coaching's coming from Kostecki.
00:50:44He's been on the radio saying,
00:50:45get Will to start getting into the rear bar of the 88.
00:50:47We might be able to both catch him.
00:50:48So I think he got that message all right.
00:50:51Well, yeah.
00:50:52Lost a bit of ground here in that process, though.
00:50:54And it takes so long to creep it back.
00:50:57Millimetres matter out there at the moment.
00:50:59Six seconds is the gap that Chas Mostert enjoys
00:51:02with five laps to go.
00:51:04And have a go at this traffic jam.
00:51:06We've got Nick Percat, Macaulay Jones,
00:51:09Cam Hills mixed up in this as well.
00:51:11Macaulay on the inside.
00:51:14Percat was out in the marbles there,
00:51:16just trying to negotiate the wide line.
00:51:18And Dick Piscuali's mixed up in this as well.
00:51:21So these guys, 16, 17, 18 on the racetrack at the moment.
00:51:25That thing of Dick Piscuali's with that reused tyre
00:51:28would be an absolute dog at the moment, wouldn't it?
00:51:30Not nice.
00:51:31No.
00:51:32Every time you turn right,
00:51:33that left-hand front tyre that's now done
00:51:35in the complete race,
00:51:37that would be a shocking thing.
00:51:38We've talked about tread depth before
00:51:40and depth of rubber on the tyres.
00:51:42That one's not going to have much left at the end of it all.
00:51:43Interestingly, in the middle of the racetrack on this lap,
00:51:48very late in the game,
00:51:50Matt Payne's just done a personal best sector two.
00:51:546.1 seconds, the gap that Mockit's enjoying now.
00:51:56The four laps remaining.
00:51:59Last year, remember he lost a wheel in a pit stop
00:52:01and I think the other race he was seven.
00:52:03So he's staring at the possibility of his first podium here.
00:52:07And not just a podium, but a race victory in New Zealand.
00:52:10Nice turnaround from the nightmare earlier in the day.
00:52:12How's the changing fortunes in supercar racing
00:52:15from minute to minute,
00:52:17in both qualifying and in racing?
00:52:19Yeah, it's out of control, isn't it?
00:52:21So he tumbled in the point standing
00:52:23after that last race,
00:52:25which we talked about pre-race.
00:52:27The effect on Chas Mostert was significant.
00:52:30And we're out of a strong fourth position.
00:52:32I think it was down to seventh.
00:52:33The opportunity for him to claw back here.
00:52:35And not only with the points for the victory,
00:52:38but the points for the fastest lap.
00:52:39Oh, that was awkward, wasn't it?
00:52:41When it just stepped as he put the peak load
00:52:44on that right front tyre,
00:52:45it just stepped to the right.
00:52:47Here we go.
00:52:49Got a little bit better exit speed.
00:52:51Now they're chasing around both of them,
00:52:55just trying to find different spots on the racetrack.
00:52:57This is such an awkward part of this circuit
00:53:03when the grip's diminished.
00:53:07So if I was Chas Mostert now,
00:53:10when I've got three laps remaining,
00:53:12I'd be coming off it now.
00:53:13I'd be going a lot slower
00:53:14to ensure that it doesn't fall off the cliff.
00:53:17to make sure you get the tyre to make it home.
00:53:21Now, that's the first thing I'd be doing.
00:53:22You often get a little bit better life
00:53:23in your second than your first stint.
00:53:25Yeah, well, his dig is a lot better in this run,
00:53:27for sure.
00:53:28And, you know, time of day,
00:53:29rubber on the track,
00:53:31the vigour in which you're operating.
00:53:33You know, so the last half of this race
00:53:35for him has been less pressure
00:53:36than the first bit.
00:53:38OK, talk about pressure.
00:53:39How's this?
00:53:41He's about to get a punt here.
00:53:42Oh, no, he didn't.
00:53:48Meantime.
00:53:50That's Will Davison going by Feeney.
00:53:52So it took a long time to get back
00:53:54and be able to get him to a position.
00:53:57It took four or five laps, basically, didn't it?
00:53:59Yeah.
00:54:00Yeah, so that's been brewing
00:54:01for a long period of time.
00:54:04So, nice work.
00:54:05Brings him up into second position.
00:54:07So they've got a good set-up
00:54:09working here this weekend.
00:54:10for both the Jet Couriers cars.
00:54:15Now, is there going to be another change here?
00:54:17Can Brock hang on?
00:54:18He's been placing that car really nicely.
00:54:21But he's under big-time pressure here
00:54:22at the moment from Brodie,
00:54:23who's carrying some form of bruising
00:54:25from either contact with the wall
00:54:26or other cars or all of those things.
00:54:29And he's having a long, hard thing
00:54:30about whether or not he can pull a move
00:54:32down here into the sun at turn one.
00:54:34As I think about it, as I lunge.
00:54:36They won't want to mess around too much
00:54:40because Matt Payne's just behind them.
00:54:43Oh, big slide.
00:54:45Massive slide.
00:54:46Hugely chasing that thing.
00:54:48It's all crossed up
00:54:49in a couple of awkward angles
00:54:50in a couple of awkward places.
00:54:52And he's still holding on to it.
00:54:52He's now run off the edge of the road
00:54:54down there at four.
00:54:55There's Matt Payne.
00:54:56And Matt is right in the middle
00:54:59of this now as well.
00:55:00Matt Payne was the fastest car
00:55:02in the last lap.
00:55:04So he is strong.
00:55:07So remember, he stopped on lap 20.
00:55:10He's got a little bit of a tyre advantage here.
00:55:12And it could work nicely to his advantage.
00:55:17This could get him onto the podium
00:55:18if he could just stay calm enough here.
00:55:21So he knows in terms of his pace
00:55:23that he's got a heap better pace
00:55:25than the two cars in front.
00:55:26But what he's got to do now
00:55:27is just craft this pass.
00:55:30So try in the middle of this corner
00:55:31to come off the throttle,
00:55:34turn it late,
00:55:35come off the corner as straight as possible
00:55:37and get the run on the Ampol car.
00:55:40So the Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro,
00:55:43he's over, isn't it?
00:55:44Exit speed out of turn.
00:55:46It was impressive.
00:55:47He's going to get this done
00:55:47before they even end up
00:55:48with their feet on the brake pedal.
00:55:50Across the two of them.
00:55:51So down the inside, done.
00:55:52Beautiful work.
00:55:53That's the Kiwis of the crowd there.
00:55:55They're elated.
00:55:57No doubt.
00:55:58Because that's a very high performance.
00:56:03Got to be the junk on the road
00:56:04down there as well.
00:56:05Further back, the action continues.
00:56:08Oh, I think Pasquale and Stanaway
00:56:10locking horns down there awkwardly.
00:56:12Here's the replay
00:56:13and looking at from the vantage point
00:56:15of Anton Di Pasquale now.
00:56:16Ritchie was all crossed up
00:56:17before all this started to get ugly
00:56:19and then they locked,
00:56:20punted Ritchie into the weeds.
00:56:23And on they go.
00:56:26Gee, Stanaway now is back in 21st now.
00:56:29So two tyres on the rear.
00:56:30That doesn't work.
00:56:35I don't know if I thought that was a hugely bold gamble.
00:56:39That one.
00:56:40Wood on screen here in position number nine.
00:56:42We go back now and find his team mate.
00:56:44We've got less than half a lap remaining.
00:56:46So what a battle he had earlier in this race
00:56:49with Brodie Kostecki.
00:56:50And what a turnaround
00:56:51from that earlier race in the day.
00:56:54And he needs it.
00:56:56Didn't totally go his way in Melbourne.
00:56:58And it certainly didn't go his way
00:57:00earlier on in the day.
00:57:02But he's now enjoying a 7.1 second margin
00:57:04over Will Davison.
00:57:06Brodie Kostecki
00:57:06with a fast charging manpain at the end.
00:57:08And that might still end up being a change
00:57:11for the podium there in the lead group.
00:57:13And the back of shot there as well.
00:57:15He had a tough year in 2024
00:57:17at this venue, Chas Mosterton.
00:57:19And as he rounds it out of turn 14
00:57:21for the final time,
00:57:22he's turned it around
00:57:23for the second race in New Zealand
00:57:25in 2025.
00:57:27And Chas Mosterton gets the job done
00:57:30at Topor.
00:57:32Points for him both
00:57:33in terms of the victory
00:57:34and the fastest lap.
00:57:40And happy boys and girls down there.
00:57:43That's an overwine office racing team
00:57:44at WAU.
00:57:45Chas Mosterton taking a victory
00:57:47this afternoon
00:57:47and a nice turnaround for him.
00:57:50And when you stop and consider
00:57:52where he dropped into the picture
00:57:53in the last one,
00:57:54which was 13th in the race
00:57:55earlier in the day,
00:57:56that was handy.
00:57:57Sam Scafidi is his engineer
00:57:58on screen there.
00:58:00So answering the other question
00:58:01about the minors,
00:58:02it ended up being a fourth place
00:58:04for Matt Payne
00:58:05with Brodie Kostecki hanging on.
00:58:06So for the Jet Careers,
00:58:07Shelby Power Racing Team entries,
00:58:09position two and three.
00:58:11Nice day at the office
00:58:11for those guys.
00:58:12Absolutely.
00:58:13Beautiful job.
00:58:14In fact, Kostecki did a remarkable job
00:58:16on that closing lap
00:58:17to be able to hold Payne off.
00:58:18We saw them in the background
00:58:19coming onto the straight there.
00:58:21Line of Stern.
00:58:22I thought that Matt Payne
00:58:23might have been able to outbreak him
00:58:25and put a late move on him,
00:58:26but he wasn't able to do that.
00:58:27So Mostert from Davison
00:58:30from Kostecki.
00:58:31Mostert with his 26th.
00:58:35Sorry, I just got the wrong number there now.
00:58:3825th.
00:58:38Career win.
00:58:41And what a nice result for him.
00:58:43A great fight back
00:58:43and a great performance.
00:58:44Six and a half seconds up the road.
00:58:46And had to work for it.
00:58:47How was the stuff that was going on
00:58:48in the first portion of the race
00:58:50when he and Brodie
00:58:51were absolutely hand-to-hand in combat.
00:58:53But he came home with a chunk in hand
00:58:55over Will Davison, Brodie Kostecki.
00:58:57Nice work for the Shelby Power Racing Team
00:58:59and Jet Couriers.
00:59:00Matt Payne,
00:59:01valiant performance at the end.
00:59:02Had a slight offset with the tyres
00:59:03and he played that out to his advantage.
00:59:05Brock Feeney hung on
00:59:06for valuable points
00:59:07in position number five
00:59:08from Randall Brown,
00:59:09Heimgartner, Wood, Allen.
00:59:11Nice recovery for Brown
00:59:12when you consider that he was drowning
00:59:13with that first set of tyres early on.
00:59:16And then just outside the top ten
00:59:18we've got Jack LeBrock.
00:59:20As Chas lights up those tyres
00:59:21I don't think he'll get any more mileage
00:59:22out of those, Mark.
00:59:23No.
00:59:23For an expert tip.
00:59:26No, I think they're pretty destroyed.
00:59:28In fact, I think they were pretty destroyed
00:59:29before he even started
00:59:30this little burnout sequence.
00:59:33And a great job,
00:59:34as you just said,
00:59:34with Will Brown
00:59:35because that will put him
00:59:36into the lead of the championship
00:59:37based on Cam Waters
00:59:38has been 14 years.
00:59:39So that was a nice job
00:59:40to recognise.
00:59:41OK, let's surrender.
00:59:42Just get him in.
00:59:42Get him on another set of tyres
00:59:44and then risk mitigate.
00:59:46These are the days
00:59:47where you've just got to surrender
00:59:49and come home
00:59:49with whatever points
00:59:50you can stick in your back hole.
00:59:51Chas is doing his little best
00:59:54to have an accident down there
00:59:55at Turn 12
00:59:56and then the celebration
00:59:57and the fans are loving it.
00:59:59There's been a bit of relief
00:59:59in that one
01:00:00because as I said
01:00:01in the call a little bit earlier
01:00:03it was a tough weekend for him
01:00:04at the age of he didn't quite go
01:00:06as well as he wanted
01:00:06at the Grand Prix in Melbourne
01:00:07and certainly earlier today
01:00:09there was plenty going on.
01:00:11But he had to fight
01:00:11for that one today.
01:00:12I was loving that battle
01:00:14that he had with Brodie.
01:00:15They were each giving
01:00:16as good as they were getting.
01:00:19Gorgeous sky.
01:00:20Have a look at the beautiful
01:00:21surroundings here at the moment.
01:00:22Battery Zone providing
01:00:23the drone images for us
01:00:24as they all wander
01:00:25into Pertec Victory Lane.
01:00:27That shot that was looking
01:00:28back towards the town
01:00:29before you could see
01:00:29that amazing lake
01:00:31that's the core feature
01:00:32of this beautiful part
01:00:33of the world.
01:00:35How's the quality
01:00:36of the racing thus far?
01:00:38Very, very good.
01:00:39Unbelievable, isn't it?
01:00:40So we just continue
01:00:41to see different winners
01:00:43and different outcomes here.
01:00:49Lovely moment
01:00:50for Chas Mostert
01:00:51and a strong moment
01:00:52and impressive moment
01:00:53there for Brodie Kostecki
01:00:54and for Will Davison
01:00:55as well in Pertec Victory Lane
01:00:57to be able to come home
01:00:58and get some important points.
01:01:01You can sense that Brodie's
01:01:02back in this game, Mark
01:01:03and so he's a huge chance
01:01:04at some stage
01:01:05to grab a victory as well
01:01:06but right now
01:01:07the grins, the applause
01:01:09and the elation
01:01:10all belonging
01:01:11to Walkinshaw Andretti United
01:01:13over one Optus Racing.
01:01:15Chas Mostert
01:01:16picks up a pile of points today
01:01:18and that's very important
01:01:19in his chase
01:01:20for the 25 championship
01:01:21for Repco as well
01:01:22and the boys all jumping in
01:01:25showing some great sportsmanship.
01:01:26Sam Scafidi there as well.
01:01:28Yeah, beautiful job.
01:01:29That was a very, very nice drive
01:01:32and I'm surprised
01:01:33by how much better
01:01:34the car was
01:01:35in the second phase
01:01:36of that race.
01:01:37First part of the race
01:01:38he was really struggling
01:01:39and come out
01:01:40they had to press on
01:01:41they raced hard
01:01:42against each other
01:01:43it was a really epic battle
01:01:44between a couple
01:01:45of real hard heads
01:01:46but at the end of that
01:01:48he was able to prevail
01:01:49in the second part
01:01:51of this race
01:01:52and drove it
01:01:52absolutely superbly
01:01:53for a six and a half
01:01:55second win.
01:01:56Beautiful job, Chas Mostert.
01:01:57So after a wild run
01:02:05certainly in the early phase
01:02:06of this race
01:02:07where he had to produce
01:02:08everything he's got
01:02:10out of his back pocket
01:02:11in terms of experience
01:02:12and to be able to go
01:02:13hand to hand
01:02:13with some serious combat
01:02:14Chas Mostert
01:02:15gets the job done
01:02:16for the ninth race
01:02:17of the championship season
01:02:18in the Repco Supercars
01:02:19championship
01:02:20home by a margin
01:02:21of 6.4 seconds.
01:02:24Look forward to the conversation
01:02:25now with Jess.
01:02:26Thank you Neil
01:02:28great to see Chas Mostert
01:02:29back here in the
01:02:29Perteg victory lane
01:02:30this is a bit of a nice
01:02:31birthday present
01:02:32it was your birthday
01:02:33on Thursday
01:02:34but it was a hell
01:02:34of a heavyweight battle
01:02:35out there
01:02:36how did you enjoy
01:02:36that exchange with Brodie?
01:02:38Yeah it was a super
01:02:39tough tussle
01:02:40I had really good
01:02:41car pace
01:02:41for the start of the stint
01:02:42and the middle of the stint
01:02:43but just kind of
01:02:44ran out of tyres
01:02:45a little bit
01:02:45so probably a little bit
01:02:46aggressive on our strategy
01:02:47coming out of qualifying
01:02:48into the race
01:02:49but I knew I had to
01:02:50fight him really hard
01:02:51especially after the pit stop
01:02:52but I was setting up
01:02:54a move at four
01:02:55he was saving his tyre
01:02:56but as I went to commit
01:02:57into four
01:02:58I just didn't expect him
01:02:59to come hard right
01:03:00and then I already committed
01:03:01so didn't want to
01:03:02end up like that
01:03:03but then he got the nose
01:03:04back into me
01:03:05and I thought alright
01:03:06well that's fair
01:03:06it's fair
01:03:07so and then I just
01:03:08thought we raced along
01:03:09from there
01:03:09so obviously he had
01:03:10a little bit of damage
01:03:11he went back
01:03:11you don't want to race
01:03:12like that
01:03:12but I'm glad to hang
01:03:14on for the win
01:03:14we probably just didn't
01:03:15quite have the card
01:03:15to those two guys
01:03:16behind us today
01:03:17we love the elbows out
01:03:18throughout that whole thing
01:03:20talk to us about
01:03:21the pit stop
01:03:21because Brodie went in hot
01:03:22hit the wall
01:03:23coming into the pit lane
01:03:24and you were pretty hot
01:03:25yourself when you got
01:03:26to the box
01:03:26yeah kind of glad
01:03:27I actually had Brodie
01:03:28there in front of me
01:03:28setting the tempo
01:03:30into the lane
01:03:30and when I saw him
01:03:31hit the pit wall
01:03:32I'm like oh I'm in late too
01:03:34so I just kept it off
01:03:35and I was able to get
01:03:36on his bumper
01:03:36but I was out of tyre
01:03:37by then
01:03:38so caught that second up
01:03:39I lost on track
01:03:40to get on his bumper
01:03:41big kudos to Tickford
01:03:42they let me go through
01:03:43their box
01:03:44because it's so tight
01:03:45in the lane this weekend
01:03:46so it's good to see
01:03:47the teams working together
01:03:47but I'm just so pumped
01:03:48for everyone at
01:03:49Walkature Andretti United
01:03:50got my family here too
01:03:51after the first race
01:03:52getting turned
01:03:53I was going to race
01:03:54to this one for the death
01:03:55it was a hell of a
01:03:56redemption story
01:03:57in that second race
01:03:58talk to us about tyre life
01:04:00it seemed like
01:04:00in that first stint
01:04:01when they fell off the cliff
01:04:02they were gone
01:04:03what was it like
01:04:04in that second stint?
01:04:05yeah I felt like
01:04:06I was looking after them
01:04:06the whole time
01:04:07it just got to a point
01:04:08where our rear tyre
01:04:09and how aggressive
01:04:10we are running
01:04:11just kind of
01:04:12just didn't quite work anymore
01:04:13so I was managing
01:04:14managing
01:04:14I reckon I could have
01:04:15went faster
01:04:16but I would obviously
01:04:16blown them off quicker
01:04:17but overall
01:04:18just pumped to hang on
01:04:19we loved when you
01:04:20opened the door here
01:04:21in the stop area
01:04:22all the smoke
01:04:23that came out of the cabin
01:04:24what was it like
01:04:25to celebrate
01:04:25in front of this crowd
01:04:26particularly having
01:04:27so many family
01:04:28and friends here
01:04:28yeah it's so unique
01:04:29having such a long
01:04:31back straight
01:04:31and so it's so cool
01:04:33here at Taupo
01:04:33to see so many fans
01:04:34on the hill
01:04:34so I set the challenge
01:04:36I said instead of
01:04:37coming off the turn 11
01:04:38and just doing the whole straight
01:04:39I'll give myself 100 metres
01:04:40and make sure I can try
01:04:41and do the whole straight
01:04:42and then did a little
01:04:43flick turn at the end
01:04:43but yeah I only just
01:04:44got back to pit lane
01:04:45so yeah it was pretty
01:04:47slippery on them
01:04:47but I don't think
01:04:47there's much left on them
01:04:48Dunlop tyres
01:04:49I think you can retire
01:04:50those ones
01:04:50you've done a great job
01:04:51congratulations on an
01:04:52epic win here this afternoon
01:04:53you're first in New Zealand
01:04:55go and celebrate
01:04:55thank you very much
01:04:56cheers

01:05:01and we see you here again
01:05:03congrats Will
01:05:04you're really thrilled

01:05:06but particularly for you
01:05:07here today
01:05:08yeah it's been a good day
01:05:10you're right
01:05:1012 months
01:05:11haven't had enough
01:05:12podium action
01:05:13in the last 12 months
01:05:14but I'm just yeah
01:05:15I'm really encouraged
01:05:16with what the team's
01:05:18doing this year
01:05:18chipping away
01:05:20bit by bit
01:05:21so this is special
01:05:22obviously this
01:05:22beautiful Jet Couriers
01:05:24Mustang
01:05:25the Shell V Power Racing
01:05:26Mustang I'll still say
01:05:27but it's special
01:05:28like Brodie was off pole
01:05:29I mean he's brought
01:05:30so much to the team
01:05:31it's really really exciting
01:05:32to be a part of
01:05:33and I'm just trying to lift
01:05:34I'm trying to lift
01:05:34and I'm just thrilled
01:05:36for Brett and the Ralph family
01:05:37you know
01:05:38and June and Sean
01:05:39they've had a
01:05:40you know they've had a tough time
01:05:41so I know this means a lot
01:05:42to have both these Jets
01:05:43on the podium
01:05:44and of course out
01:05:45you know Ryan's story
01:05:46at home
01:05:47it's been a tough period
01:05:48as well you know
01:05:49and of course DJ and Jilly
01:05:50you know it's
01:05:51a lot's gone into this
01:05:53so this is
01:05:53it is a family team
01:05:54and I'm just thrilled
01:05:56to still be here
01:05:57part of this new phase
01:05:58and this is just the start
01:06:00so just thrilled
01:06:01to everyone
01:06:02and it was a fun race
01:06:04I won't lie
01:06:04it was cool
01:06:05tell us about it
01:06:06that exchange for Brock Finney
01:06:07it wasn't going to make
01:06:07it easy for you
01:06:08no
01:06:09I'd done all the hard work
01:06:11before the last stop
01:06:12and unfortunately
01:06:14we've come out
01:06:14behind him again
01:06:15so I just stuck my guns
01:06:17and it's so nice
01:06:17when you've got a car
01:06:18that you know
01:06:19you can drive it
01:06:20to nurse the tyre a bit
01:06:21and I sort of
01:06:22backed myself on the stint
01:06:23before that we'd
01:06:24you know come at him
01:06:25at the end
01:06:25so it was so cool
01:06:26to be in that position again
01:06:27so I worked it
01:06:28worked it
01:06:29and yeah
01:06:30and this is like
01:06:31some of those corners
01:06:32at 10, 11
01:06:32it's so slippery
01:06:33you've got to be
01:06:34very disciplined
01:06:35and I just worked him over
01:06:36and it was cool
01:06:37and I know he had some damage
01:06:39I don't know what it was
01:06:40but I'm watching in the mirror
01:06:41the last time
01:06:41go go go go
01:06:42we both need to be up here
01:06:43so it's a good day for the team
01:06:45we need to get to the top step
01:06:46but that's coming
01:06:47I feel really good about that
01:06:48great to see you back here
01:06:49well congratulations
01:06:50good on you Jess
01:06:51thanks everyone
01:06:51and we'll get a word
01:06:53with Brodie Kistecki
01:06:54on the podium
01:06:55who had to fight
01:06:56really hard
01:06:57at the end there
01:06:58we've got plenty
01:06:59to debrief Brodie
01:07:00there was a lot going on
01:07:01in that race
01:07:02let's start
01:07:02at the very beginning
01:07:03race start
01:07:05elbows were out
01:07:06how did that all
01:07:07unfold for you
01:07:08yeah I didn't quite get
01:07:09the start
01:07:09chassis got me off
01:07:10the start line there
01:07:11so yeah
01:07:12and he was
01:07:13you know
01:07:13his car was a rocket
01:07:14for the first
01:07:15sort of 15 laps
01:07:16and you know
01:07:17sort of hit a bit
01:07:17of a cliff there
01:07:18was able to catch him
01:07:19and you know
01:07:19put a move on him
01:07:20and made a bit of a
01:07:21whoopsie come into the pits
01:07:22and hit the soft wall
01:07:23but yeah
01:07:24boys got me out in front
01:07:25so yeah
01:07:26thanks to them
01:07:27and yeah
01:07:28it was on afterwards
01:07:29that's for sure
01:07:30so a bit unfortunate
01:07:31yeah
01:07:32to spit her front to rear
01:07:33and then
01:07:33yeah
01:07:34blew me right rear out
01:07:36so she's
01:07:36yeah she's missing
01:07:37a few spokes
01:07:37and yeah
01:07:38I'm actually surprised
01:07:39it hung on that far
01:07:40yeah so
01:07:40was there damage
01:07:41to the car
01:07:42and where did
01:07:43that actually happen
01:07:43yeah it happened
01:07:45yeah with Chaz
01:07:46unfortunately
01:07:47so yeah
01:07:48I'm a bit surprised
01:07:49to it
01:07:50so you know
01:07:51boxing has three
01:07:51drudges for a reason
01:07:52so yeah
01:07:54we just have to see
01:07:55I suppose
01:07:55if it looks good
01:07:56for TV
01:07:56they just let it
01:07:57play on
01:07:57you not happy
01:07:58with the way
01:07:59that that was
01:07:59adjudicated
01:08:00I mean
01:08:01it's just
01:08:01it's just different
01:08:02every time
01:08:02in my opinion
01:08:03so you know
01:08:04if it looks great
01:08:05on TV
01:08:05and both cars
01:08:06continue
01:08:07it's fine
01:08:08but yeah
01:08:08it sort of
01:08:09destroyed my car
01:08:10so it sort of
01:08:10took me out of the race
01:08:11so what was
01:08:13tyre life like
01:08:13there at the end
01:08:14for you
01:08:14because that first
01:08:15didn't seem to be
01:08:16harder than the second
01:08:16yeah the first
01:08:18didn't seem to be
01:08:19really good
01:08:19for us
01:08:20obviously the
01:08:21you know
01:08:21the jet carrier
01:08:21mustangs
01:08:22were on fire
01:08:23then even
01:08:23Davo able to
01:08:24drive through
01:08:24was awesome to see
01:08:25so it was really
01:08:26stoked for him
01:08:26to get a podium
01:08:27I know he's had
01:08:27a pretty tough
01:08:28you know
01:08:28last couple of years
01:08:29so yeah
01:08:30he's going to have
01:08:30a big smile
01:08:31ear to ear
01:08:32which is awesome
01:08:32to see
01:08:33and it's a well
01:08:33deserved to the
01:08:34whole crew
01:08:34so we'll go back
01:08:35tonight debrief
01:08:36and put a new
01:08:37bike rear on it
01:08:38one that's got
01:08:39you know
01:08:39got all the spokes
01:08:40on it
01:08:40and going in tomorrow
01:08:41it was funny
01:08:41actually listening
01:08:42in on you
01:08:43and Davo
01:08:43you sort of
01:08:43coaching each other
01:08:44in the closing
01:08:45stages of that
01:08:46race
01:08:46trying to catch
01:08:47Feeney
01:08:47and then for you
01:08:48two to hang
01:08:49in there
01:08:49after all that
01:08:50had sort of
01:08:51transpired
01:08:51were you confident
01:08:52that you could
01:08:52still make it
01:08:53onto the podium
01:08:53this afternoon
01:08:54no to be honest
01:08:56yeah not really
01:08:56sure
01:08:57I think it knocked
01:08:57the toe link
01:08:58loose as well
01:08:59so the steering
01:08:59was slowly
01:09:00slowly going
01:09:00left hand down
01:09:01throughout the race
01:09:02well that's what
01:09:03it felt like
01:09:03so yeah
01:09:04I was just happy
01:09:05to let those two
01:09:06go and just
01:09:07you know
01:09:07consolidate a fourth
01:09:08or a fifth
01:09:08I was just happy
01:09:09to you know
01:09:10just make it home
01:09:10but Davo
01:09:12did me a nice
01:09:12favour there
01:09:13so I might have
01:09:13to buy him
01:09:14an ice cream
01:09:14tonight
01:09:14great result
01:09:15for the team
01:09:16yeah yeah
01:09:16it's fantastic
01:09:17for the team
01:09:17and great to see
01:09:18such a turnout
01:09:19here today

01:09:27down there
01:09:27well done
01:09:28Chas Mostat
01:09:29he is the sixth
01:09:30different winner

01:09:36has taken back
01:09:37the championship
01:09:38lead as well
01:09:39so what was
01:09:40a ten point
01:09:41lead into the
01:09:41start of the day
01:09:42turned into a
01:09:42seven point
01:09:43deficit
01:09:43he's turned it
01:09:44back into
01:09:44another lead
01:09:46in this championship
01:09:46this time
01:09:47just twelve
01:09:47points ahead
01:09:48of Cam Waters
01:09:49Brock Feeney
01:09:50just losing touch
01:09:50a little bit
01:09:51with the leaders
01:09:51but there's
01:09:52142 points
01:09:53covering the top
01:09:54six in the

01:09:59for finals
01:09:59later in
01:10:00the year
01:10:00Will Davison
01:10:01is now
