Violence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district shows no signs of abating. Following protests against the Waqf Act, violent mobs torched several vehicles and vandalized public property. The death toll has risen to three, while at least 15 police personnel have been injured in the clashes. Over 150 people have been arrested so far in connection with the unrest. Senior police officials have visited the affected areas and held meetings with local authorities. Central forces have been deployed in Murshidabad and other disturbed regions to help restore peace. West Bengal Governor has expressed concern over the situation and stated that he has taken up the matter with both the state and central governments. He emphasized the urgent need for central force deployment to restore normalcy. Appealing for calm, police have urged the public not to believe in rumors and maintain peace. The Hon’ble High Court has also intervened and directed authorities to take swift action against those responsible for the violence. The government has assured that damage to life and property will be addressed and necessary support will be provided to affected citizens. Despite the measures, tension remains high in certain areas, especially Jangipur and Shamsherganj.
