Good Vibrations walk for Parkinson's Disease Newcastle April 2025.
Transcript
00:00Tell us why you're here today. Hi, I'm here because I have Parkinson's and I was
00:04diagnosed about four and a half years ago when I was 58 and at the moment I'm
00:08doing really well. It affects one side of me and the confidence is a little bit
00:13iffy but the medication works wonders so I'm grateful for that. And Skye, you're
00:20obviously here to support your mum. Absolutely. My sister that's from Tasmania
00:24actually found the cause. She'd love to be here too but yeah we would like to do
00:29anything we can to help raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for Parkinson's.
00:34Is this the first time you've done the walk? It is, yes.
00:37Robin why are you here today? I'm here to support my daughter Leanne. Yes and we've got
00:44Steffi's done. My granddaughter has put this on for the second year running which is a
00:48credit to her. Yes, all the support we can get. My name is Debbie and I've known Leanne
00:58probably for, oh my goodness, so long we can't remember, raise kids together. And yeah once she was
01:03diagnosed with Parkinson's disease we just all decided we needed to rally around her
01:08and get some knowledge out there about, we just need more research, more funding, more, more of
01:15everything unfortunately just like everybody. Do you feel if so there's been improvements made over the
01:19last 10 years? Well for Leanne it's been a recent diagnosis and I think she's been
01:25very lucky in that she's one of the few where the medication that's currently
01:30available is helping her quality of life. But we're all trying to navigate this
01:35NDIS system, that's what I think we all need a bit of a helping hand with that just
01:40to understand and getting through it. Finding resources that are out there but we just need, we need more knowledge as well. Sure.
01:46Sure.
