Van Sickle, Philips: We are Filipinos  Amid criticism and outright bashing from fans who call them imports, Petro Gazz Angels Filipino-American spikers Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips stressed that they are Filipinos with local lineage and Philippine passports.  Van Sickle and Phillips led Petro Gazz to the PVL All-Filipino championship after winning Game 3 of the Finals against Creamline, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, at the PhilSports Arena on April 12, 2025.  Van Sickle also won her second straight Conference MVP award while Phillips bagged the Finals MVP plum. 00:00I mean, everything is honestly for my mom and my Lola that passed away, like every time I look at the flag, I think of the Philippines, it's all for my Lola, and may she rest in the house.

00:13I don't really read comments so often, the only time I hear about it is that people mention it to me, but I don't take anything personal.

00:22Yeah, it is what it is, and now I'm here, and I want to represent the Philippines, I am Filipino, to all those that, I do have a passport, I got it on my own, but you know, it's okay.

00:36I don't expect people to be open and honest with us, I understand how they feel, and I just hope that one day that they'll embrace us and just accept us.

00:48I don't feel any hatred towards them, I wish the best still for them, but I just, yeah, I just want to be able to play volleyball, the sport I love, and continue to embrace myself in this culture, and you know, our culture.

01:04And I did have, you know, years back in the States where I got to miss, I missed out on this, and I'm really grateful to be here now, and experiencing it now.

01:13So I think it's just a part of the journey that God had for me, for us.

01:18So I think, you know, just hopefully one day, you know, we'll all love each other, and it'll be okay.

01:25So I think both of you will play in the ABC, as if you can tell you to represent them.

01:32Oh, I'm super stoked, yeah.

01:35From the last word I've heard, our paperwork's already been processed, right?

01:40Yeah, we might have to backstrip that, but what I've been told is that it's already been processed, so that's just one step closer to being able to, you know, recharging us.

01:51And we want to be able to do as much as we can, our country, and, you know, it's just, it's awesome to be able to be considered.

02:00I think this country has such a good volleyball base.

02:04I think there's so many talented players here, and just to be even, like, recommended to be on the team is awesome.

02:10And even if we can't be a part of the team, the team's going to be okay.

02:14They're phenomenal.

02:15There's such good athletes, volleyball players here that they'll be a-okay.

02:19But if we do so happen to be on the team, we'll give our 100% and, you know, do everything we possibly can in our power.

02:26So, yeah.
