00:00Hello and welcome to the fifth edition of the Women's Paris-Roubaix.
00:18The famous Flanders classic is known as the Hell of the North for good reason.
00:22The 137 riders heading out from Dinan to Roubaix's celebrated velodrome are about to find out why.
00:29Among those poised to tackle the feared cobbled sections of the race is the world champion and last year's winner Lotte Capecchi.
00:35The Belgians certainly in form after last week's win on the Tour of Flanders.
00:39It's really special. I think it's not done before much time.
00:44I really look forward to riding again in this nice jersey.
00:50I think shape-wise it's going better week by week.
00:54I'm really happy with that. I hope last week was only the beginning and I hope I can continue like this in the next weeks.
01:03The Visma-Lisa bike team is likely to provide the main challenges in the shape of Marianne Voss and Pauline Ferrand-Prevost.
01:09The latter has returned to road racing after a seven-year absence having picked up a clutch of global mountain bike titles.
01:16But she wasn't expecting much from her day.
01:18I've been a bit ill these last few days so I don't feel 100% today.
01:26I've decided to start to try and help Marianne and try to make the race a bit tougher to weed out some of the sprinters so that Marianne has the best possible conditions in which to sprint at the finish.
01:36We'll see how it goes on the cobbles. It's an unpredictable race so I hope we'll come through it well.
01:48Lizzy Danden is making a return too. The very first winner of the women's race in 2021, the British rider is back in the saddle after missing the last three editions due to maternity and injury.
01:59I'm really excited and nervous of course. I think it would be strange if you weren't nervous for this race.
02:06For sure I'm a worker. We have two workers in the team and then we have four protected riders who we just hope make it as close to the final as they all can.
02:15This year's route is the same as it was last year with just over 29 kilometers of non-tarmac sections.
02:21That means the peloton facing up to the unique challenge of the infamous cobble sections at Mont-en-Pével and the Carrefour de l'Arbe.
02:28But there's no Arenberg trench for the women's race as they head to the Roubaix Velodrome which has seen sprint finishes in the last two years.
02:37Early on, two riders looked to avoid that. Dutch woman Quinty Thorn of Liv Alula Jaiko and a Raynello of Windspace Orange Seal setting a high early pace.
02:47They built almost a three minute lead on the peloton before getting to the first cobble section with just over 80 kilometers to go.
02:54As always, that meant things started to get shaken up.
02:57Ellen van Dijk was the first to make a move among the peloton's big hitters.
03:01The little trek rider reached the third cobble section with a lead over Vos and Keperke whose teams were working hard to keep them in touch.
03:08Van Dijk continued to power on and soon caught the early breakaway duo.
03:16But the peloton too was accelerating and were only some 20 seconds off the lead with around 60 kilometers left.
03:22It wouldn't be a Paris-Roubaix without some of the riders hitting the deck.
03:28Ferran Prevost was one of them as she headed into the cobble section near Auches-les-Orchis.
03:32The French woman was able to pick herself up and continue, but her unfortunate tumble provided Keperke with a cue to go on the attack.
03:39Accompanied by SD-Works pro-time teammate and European champion Lorena Wiebes, Keperke closed on Van Dijk.
03:46Vos too was hanging in there to keep her victory hopes intact.
03:53Soon, two distinct groups formed.
03:57There were six in the lead group including Keperke, Wiebes and Vos.
04:01But also Alisson Jackson, the Paris-Roubaix winner in 2023.
04:05Chloe Deigert and Movistar's Jelena Erich.
04:13Just behind was a group of 12, including Ferran Prevost and Van Dijk, with the cobble section at Templeuve fast approaching.
04:23After safely exiting the sector, Emma Norsgaard launched her bid for victory with just over 30 kilometers to go.
04:30The little Trek rider has pedigree.
04:32She was sixth in 2021 and won a stage on the 2023 Tour de France.
04:37She built a lead of over 30 seconds, but the chasing pack ate into that on sector 7 before Ferran Prevost then stepped up a gear or three.
04:46The Olympic cross-country mountain bike champion's blistering burst saw her catch Norsgaard 23 kilometers from the line.
04:53Just a few kilometers later, Ferran Prevost then dropped Norsgaard as she upped the tempo again.
05:01With the chasing group struggling to coordinate their pursuit, Ferran Prevost built on her lead as she approached the famous Carrefour de l'Arme at the tree crossroads.
05:10She stretched her lead to a minute, with Norsgaard still clear of a group that seemed to have already given up the chase.
05:17Ferran Prevost maintained her advantage through the last three couple sections, and as she rattled along to keep the race's average speed above the 40 kilometer an hour mark,
05:27it soon became clear that everyone else was battling for the places behind the 2014 Road Race World Champion.
05:34She headed to the velodrome with a comfortable lead as those behind her battled for the podium places.
05:40Capecchi was a spent force as she dropped out of the reckoning as Leticia Borghese and Veebs emerged from the chasing pack.
05:48Ferran Prevost, however, was able to savour the moment.
05:52She starts to celebrate now. A rider who was not sure she would even start makes her way round the final turn.
06:09What a warrior on the pave of Paris-Roubaix.
06:13So what an incredible debut win on the Paris-Roubaix for Ferran Prevost, who will now set her sights on the Tour de France.
06:32After a brilliant start to her 2025 season on the road, few would bet against the Visma Lisa bike rider,
06:38adding more famous wins to her already lengthy list of major honours.
06:43Not bad for someone who said she wasn't even at her best on the day.
06:47It hasn't really sunk in yet. I just want to see my team and my teammates to thank them for what they've done for me.
06:57I felt ill for the last two days and I wasn't sure to start this morning.
07:02We just said that we'd see how it goes and that I'd give my best for Marianne.
07:09In the end, I managed to survive the cobbles and I attacked on the road and behind me, I think they struggled to organise themselves.
07:20I don't know what to say right now, but I'm going to enjoy this victory.
07:27So this is how the 2025 women's Paris-Roubaix panned out.
07:34Ferran Prevost delighting the local fans with the first French win in the iconic race since Frederic Guedon in 1997.
07:42Borghese of the EIF Education Oakley team taking second, the Italian adding a significant line to her list of honours.
07:48And Vibes in third with Vos fourth and Jackson fifth. Second last year, Elisa Balsamo could only claim ninth this time round.
07:57So what a return to the road for Pauline Ferran Prevost and what a start to her season that promises so much.
08:04And no doubt she'll be back next year to defend her title on the hell of the north.
08:09Thank you for the public, thank you for the personality.
08:13Again, I will give an applause for Pauline Ferran Prevost, the winner of Paris-Roubaix.
08:17Thank you, Roubaix.
