Lake Wendouree netball coach Courtney McLean after her team's narrow win over Melton
Transcript
00:00I think tactically in defense we made some changes that clearly worked in the
00:07last quarter and we needed to expose some of the things that weren't going
00:13right with them in attack which we didn't soon enough. So yeah I think just grind really.
00:18Well you were four or five up at half time and then they were four or five up
00:23into the last quarter really I mean and you've come a couple two or three
00:26crucial stops yeah and that just turned the game in your favor. There was some incredible shifts in
00:31the game we started really slow and we had two B graders play a half each that had already played
00:39full games in B grade so I think in especially in conditions like this today that was challenging
00:44but I wouldn't say that was to our detriment at all we just took too long to adjust when things
00:50weren't going our way and yeah needed to be quicker and more confident in adapting and being and using
00:58our depth I suppose yeah. You're probably in a good position to talk about the competition because
01:03you've played the two improvers Bacchus Marsh and Melton I mean yeah they are two completely different
01:09so much from the last season. Yeah they are like Bacchus Marsh were like had a quality
01:15melting play and it was look it was so enjoyable it's great to play a team that's up and coming
01:21and much improved and they were tough um and unknown and just like play like they've got nothing to lose
01:30and Melton I don't think they had their full side either today so that'll be interesting again when
01:35unfortunately we get to meet everyone again so that'll be tough times when we see them next time.
01:40And tell me about your defense though I mean I know you you have to score to win but at the end of
01:44the day it was your defense probably at the back there Remy on uh on that big gold shoe at the end
01:49it really made a difference. It was Audrey and Remy don't have a great deal of height but they combine
01:54beautifully and when Kate Drew comes back into the mix as well all three of them work really well
01:59especially in a float or zone to box oh sorry um water box and we tried to adapt throughout to
02:08sit just to make them think and have to change but yeah they were crucial and especially being outside
02:15but just having the discipline and relentless effort to go and go and go and be constantly calling for
02:21you know contact didn't get the rebound um it's hard work and I just don't I would never want to be
02:28defender um but relentless pressure and just discipline. The last probably three or four
02:34minutes you went two on one at the end did I notice a bit of a change? Uh yeah I asked Leah our wing
02:39defense to drop onto goal attack because Akira does a lot of work outside the circle and I just thought
02:45we needed to double team the goal shooter because she was exposing us quite too much. Two from two
02:51we'll take it. Yeah we'll just take it whatever way we can at the moment. Yeah they keep winning don't you
02:55and that's that's amazing. That's right.
