00:00It's it's April and it's time to talk about spring football in college football.
00:06I'm going to give you some storylines to watch over the next few weeks as camps across the country begin and ultimately end before the end of April.
00:16Now, first off, college football, college sports, we know is changing dramatically.
00:21Another way that we're seeing this is with spring games no longer being played.
00:26A lot of campuses are deciding they don't want to have spring games.
00:30Matt Rule at Nebraska really kicked this off.
00:33Part of it has to do with reducing the workload, reducing the hits.
00:38But there's also Matt pointed out he's worried about tampering.
00:42He's worried about showcasing too much as players to other schools across the country.
00:49Hey, I don't want to show our backup quarterback.
00:51He's phenomenal in the spring game.
00:53And all of a sudden he's now on someone else's campus.
00:56Keep in mind that the second portal window begins next week, April 16th, ends the 25th.
01:03So we'll see more roster jockeying, fewer spring games, spring football's not going anywhere.
01:09But honestly, I'm not going to miss it.
01:12These are glorified scrimmages.
01:14I know a lot of fans would like to go out to these fan fests and enjoy.
01:18But a lot of teams not playing spring games, I think that's going to continue in the future.
01:23Now, second thing I'll be watching is quarterback battles across the landscape of college football.
01:30When you're looking at futures, whether it's national championship odds, conference odds, keep in mind that LSU has a returning star quarterback, Garrett Nussmeyer.
01:40Clemson does with Cade Klobnik.
01:42Penn State with Drew Aller.
01:44But a lot of major programs have virtually no experience.
01:48Oregon breaking in.
01:50Dante Moore, former five-star quarterback, eight career passing attempts.
01:54Georgia is going with Gunnar Stockton, now that Carson Beck is at Miami.
01:59Gunnar Stockton, one career start in last year's bowl game.
02:03ND, playing in the national championship game last year.
02:07Could be Steve Angelli, could be CJ Carr.
02:10Angelli, one career start in the Sun Bowl two years ago.
02:15Alabama, no career starts.
02:17Ohio State, the defending champs, look like they'll be going with former five-star blue chipper Julian Sayan.
02:24Dozen passing attempts last year.
02:26So the point being, watch these quarterbacks.
02:29Watch the quarterback battles.
02:30Going to be interesting to see what happens.
02:32Finally, a lot of new coaches around the country.
02:34Not just Bill Belichick at North Carolina, but Eddie George beginning his career at Bowling Green back in the state of Ohio.
02:41And Frank Reich, a lot of NFL sort of individuals now taking over college programs.
02:48One year for Frank Reich beginning at Stanford under the tutelage of Andrew Luck.
02:54And he was looking forward to finding out memories.
03:00I'm not a guy who's most famous guy.
03:10Jeff Kau party is not a guy who doesn't swing on at former football before heby's violence.
