Écrit, réalisé et produit par l'oscarisé Tyler Perry, ce film est interprété par Joshua Boone et Solea Pfeiffer dans le rôle des amants maudits Bayou et Leanne. Ils sont épaulés par une distribution d'ensemble comptant Amirah Vann, Austin Scott, Milauna Jemai Jackson, Brent Antonello, Brad Benedict, Kario Marcel, Lana Young et Ryan Eggold. "A Jazzman's Blues" est enrichi d'une chanson originale interprétée par Ruth B. et de chansons arrangées et produites par Terence Blanchard, multiprimé aux Grammy Awards et deux fois nommé aux Oscars. Quant à Aaron Zigman et Debbie Allen, ils signent respectivement la musique et la chorégraphie.
