00:00Time of Premier League predictions with the excellent Clive Allen.
00:04Clive, I thought we had quite a good week last week, you know.
00:07I think it was quite...
00:07Yeah, we did all right.
00:09We did.
00:09I think a lot of the scores were very close
00:12and we seemed to get them the right way round.
00:14So home wins and away results.
00:17It was very...
00:17It was a good...
00:18It was an informed week, I felt.
00:20It was.
00:21And we both predicted that Fulham were going to beat Liverpool, didn't we?
00:23We absolutely did that.
00:25Yeah.
00:26Cool.
00:27Okay.
00:28Okay, let's have a look at this week then.
00:30Some more really good fixtures.
00:32We start with the early one on Saturday.
00:34So it's Manchester City.
00:35You never know really what you're going to get there.
00:38So the sixth at the moment.
00:40They obviously want this Champions League place.
00:41They've got to get this Champions League place.
00:43Against Crystal Palace, who are 11th and 43 points at the moment.
00:50I'm going to go straight in.
00:51I'm going for a Man City win.
00:53I'm going to say 2-1 because it's at the Etihad.
00:55What do you make of the game?
00:56Yeah, it's a game I'm going to be at, actually, Saturday.
00:59I'm looking forward to this.
01:00Obviously, two of my old clubs.
01:03Potentially an FA Cup final as well.
01:05Yeah, cool.
01:05The FA Cup finalists.
01:07So, but the importance is the Premier League.
01:10And it's almost unthinkable, isn't it, that City are fighting for a Champions League place.
01:15I think it's really interesting that, obviously, with the Champions League results this week,
01:20that the fifth place is now available for Champions League place come next season.
01:26So, it sort of eases it, but there's still a great fight for those Champions League places.
01:32I think Palace have been in good form.
01:34I think under Oliver Glasner, they've started to find some consistency.
01:39So, I think this is a tricky game for City, but I do think they're going to win it.
01:44But only just 2-1 for me.
01:452-1 City.
01:46See, you know what?
01:47This is the first time I've done this.
01:49And although I said 2-1 City, I'm actually now going to reverse my prediction for some
01:56reason.
01:56And I'm going to say 2-1 Palace.
01:58Is it craziness?
02:01No, it's not.
02:02Not this season.
02:03Not the way Palace have played.
02:05And certainly, not the way City have defended, which I think has been their Achilles heel.
02:10It's been their problem.
02:11Never been a problem scoring goals for City.
02:13But defensively, they are vulnerable.
02:16And Palace could be a team that could take advantage of that.
02:19Right.
02:19I'll put a line through that.
02:212-1 Palace for me.
02:222-1 Man City for you.
02:24Right.
02:24Brighton versus Leicester.
02:25Now, there's nailed on games.
02:29There's nailed on games.
02:30We probably would have said this about Liverpool last week.
02:32So, you've got Leicester.
02:34They lose seven on the bounce.
02:36Then they play Spurs.
02:37Let's not mention what happened there.
02:39And then go and lose eight on the bounce.
02:41When it comes to playing at home, obviously, they're away at Brighton.
02:44But they're playing at home.
02:46They haven't scored a goal in eight.
02:47I mean, it's just a disaster at Leicester.
02:52Agreed.
02:53It's surely there's no way they're going to get anything out of Brighton.
02:5619th on 17 points.
02:58And at the moment, they just can't buy a point.
03:00Brighton are ninth.
03:03Surely, this is going to be just how many goals, isn't it, Clive?
03:06Because I can't see Leicester scoring.
03:08And I think Brighton are going to score three at least.
03:09I agree that it will be a Brighton victory.
03:13So often, I cannot call Brighton's results.
03:16I think they've done very well.
03:18I think they're still in with the chance of European football.
03:22Not necessarily Champions League, but European football.
03:25Yeah.
03:25So, I'm going to go Brighton to Leicester nil.
03:28Right.
03:28So, you're being quite generous to Leicester.
03:31I'm sorry, Leicester fans.
03:32But I think everybody's feeling the same way.
03:35Rue van der Saroy, I mean, he's there, his manager.
03:39And obviously, the record is not good.
03:41And obviously, he was there at Manchester United just before that.
03:45But what goes on now?
03:48Because he must be thinking now, long-term, and thinking,
03:52what's the next job going to be?
03:54Because it looks like they're going to go down.
03:56And if they do, the chances are that he's not going to stick around.
03:59What would you do as a manager if you were in that situation?
04:02Well, you have to stick to your beliefs.
04:03And I'm sure he's thinking no different to the way that he did instructing
04:08and working with the Manchester United players.
04:10He's come to Leicester.
04:11He's looked at the players he's got.
04:12He's tried to find a way for that Leicester team to play in the way that he wants.
04:16He's trying to get the best out of them.
04:18But it is just not working.
04:20And obviously, you know, Monday night's game against Newcastle was pretty much a disaster.
04:25It was all over within a short space of time.
04:29And I think defensively, there has to be a reaction from Leicester defensively.
04:33They've got to try and stop conceding goals, at least.
04:36They carry very little threat on the front line at the moment.
04:39Not creating too much, but have to be more resilient defensively.
04:43So, yeah, I'll be surprised if Roode's there next season in the championship.
04:49Yeah.
04:50OK, well, Forrest.
04:51So there's the start.
04:52I mean, the amazing thing is that we would have expected,
04:55I think everybody would have been, and even Forrest fans,
04:57that they'd be the ones that'd be fighting relegation this year.
05:00And it's completely turned on its head.
05:03I mean, they're third.
05:04They're still getting wins.
05:05So they're 57 points.
05:07You've got Everton, who, you know, things have turned around for Everton as well.
05:11They're 15th.
05:12But what do you think for this?
05:15Because this is at Forrest.
05:17Yeah, I think...
05:18And they don't seem to let up, do they?
05:20No.
05:20David Moyes has done a brilliant job at Everton.
05:22They're safe now.
05:23There's no doubt about that for me.
05:25He's done the job that he was brought in for.
05:28Nuno's doing an incredible job at Notts Forrest.
05:31I do, I've got to say, it's a breath of fresh air.
05:33The way they're playing, they're defending magnificently, Forrest.
05:37Carry an unbelievable threat on the counter with pace.
05:41I'm going to go for Forrest just to squeak this one, 1-0.
05:45Because I think they could finish third.
05:47I really do.
05:48I think the season they've had, the way they're getting their results.
05:53I see Forrest finishing third, qualifying for the Champions League,
05:56and beating Everton 1-0.
05:58It's like going back to the old days.
05:59You know, we've got Ashton Villa playing in the Champions League,
06:01and it looks like Forrest will play in the Champions League next year.
06:05I mean, it's just beyond a dream for everybody.
06:07But then again, I guess this is, it's almost like the old Brian Clough days
06:10when they went up from the old second division,
06:13then became this powerhouse for a few years.
06:16Absolutely.
06:17I think they, I think people were looking at it not too long ago
06:20about the way they amassed so many players,
06:22how it was going to work,
06:24who was going to, who was going to really sort out
06:26what was a massive squad of players.
06:29Yeah, that's right.
06:29I think you have to give Nuno a great deal of credit
06:33for the way he's handled it
06:35and the way he's got this Forrest team working.
06:38Right, I'm going to say Forrest winners were,
06:39so I'm going to say 2-1 Forrest, and you say 1-0, right?
06:42Okay.
06:43Right, next one.
06:44Southampton versus Villa.
06:47Southampton, of course, have gone now after the loss at Spurs.
06:51What do you do in a situation like that?
06:53What are you playing for?
06:54Are you just playing for yourself and thinking,
06:56well, maybe I can get a move out of this
06:59or it's all the old cliches about playing for pride
07:03and what have you,
07:04but if you're a Southampton fan,
07:06what are you thinking?
07:09It's been a terrible season.
07:11Obviously, I was at Spurs to see them defeated
07:14and relegated last weekend,
07:17and I have to say they were a poor Premier League team
07:22that I've seen for such a long, long time.
07:25I just couldn't understand the way they came into the game,
07:28tried to defend the situation when they had to win
07:30to try to stay up.
07:32I thought it was very disappointing,
07:35and if I'd have been a Southampton supporter on the day,
07:38I would have been pretty disappointed
07:40with the way they went about it.
07:41Listen, it's done, they're finished,
07:44the pressure's off,
07:44players will be playing, you're right,
07:47be playing for themselves in respect of,
07:50you know, whether it's leaving the club,
07:52whether I can establish myself in the squad
07:54for the championship campaign next season.
07:58Villa off the back of a, you know,
08:00disappointing result against PSG,
08:02really tough game, absolutely.
08:04First class, high quality game against PSG.
08:07Yeah.
08:08How, you know,
08:10the effects that maybe they will have
08:13from what was a game of real high intensity,
08:16I'm sure Unai Emery will change that at Villa side up,
08:20but I see they're still striving.
08:22If they don't win the Champions League,
08:24they want to qualify it for the next season again.
08:26So, I see it being a Southampton nil,
08:29that's the Villa two.
08:30Right.
08:31I'm going to give them one more.
08:32I'm going to say three,
08:32but maybe I'm thinking two and a half
08:35because after the game in the week,
08:38before we move on in the Premier League,
08:41do Aston Villa still stand a chance?
08:42Because after what we saw,
08:44and PSG was so good,
08:46and the weird thing is,
08:48when you lose Mbappe,
08:50and when you lose Messi,
08:53it's, and all these big names,
08:56they seem better now to me without those players
08:59because they're playing now as a team
09:01and it now has suddenly started to work.
09:03It's going to be really tough for Villa
09:05to come back from this.
09:06Although, of course,
09:06it's going to be a Villa Park.
09:08It is against this PSG side
09:10because of the, I think,
09:12the young legs,
09:13the energy that Luis Enrico
09:15has instilled in this team.
09:17Yeah.
09:17The ability they have as well.
09:19But for me,
09:20the biggest thing is
09:21there's a real team spirit there.
09:23The group,
09:23the way they work for one another,
09:25and the quality they have
09:27when they're on the ball.
09:27So, I thought if it had stayed 2-1,
09:32Villa had a chance,
09:33but 3-1 is going to be
09:34just, I think, too much.
09:36Listen, we've seen some extraordinary
09:38Champions League comebacks,
09:40and this would have to be one of the best
09:42if Villa are going to progress.
09:44Well, it could be one of the best,
09:45and the other one
09:46is the next game,
09:47and this is Arsenal-Brentford.
09:49Now, Arsenal, of course,
09:50worked, I mean,
09:51and Declan Rice,
09:52and what can you say about the free kicks
09:54and the performance,
09:55and it was perfect.
09:563-0 against Real Madrid.
09:58I know we're going to do Premier League,
10:00but again,
10:01see, that's the funny thing
10:03about Real Madrid.
10:04And no matter who plays for them,
10:06and going back over the years,
10:07they're always capable.
10:09So, I don't really think
10:11that although you're going to,
10:13if you're an Arsenal fan,
10:13you're going to be very happy,
10:15you're not truly going to believe
10:17until maybe you score first,
10:19because if Real Madrid get an early goal,
10:21it is possible, isn't it?
10:22It really is possible
10:24that Real Madrid can actually go through.
10:26Paul, it's possible,
10:27and if anyone can do it,
10:28Real Madrid can do it.
10:29Yeah.
10:30It's as if players who go there
10:32have to have that in their DNA,
10:34that, you know,
10:35they can turn what looked like
10:36impossible results around.
10:38Listen, I thought Arsenal were fantastic.
10:40I thought the atmosphere was incredible.
10:43It was electric.
10:45The whole thing,
10:46the whole place,
10:47and I think that the supporters
10:50played a massive part
10:51in lifting that team
10:52to almost another level,
10:53and you have to be
10:54at the highest level
10:56to play Real Madrid
10:56and get a result,
10:58the free kicks
10:59from Declan Rice
11:00were just,
11:00just incredible,
11:02absolutely amazing.
11:04They were,
11:05they were perfect,
11:06perfect free kicks
11:07that, you know,
11:08Courtois could get nowhere near.
11:09So,
11:10off the back of that
11:11feel-good factor,
11:13I see Arsenal winning
11:142-0 against Brentford.
11:15I've got Brentford 6-0
11:18to win that one.
11:19So we'll...
11:20Oh, sure.
11:22Three,
11:23I would say 3-1,
11:24but that's,
11:25I mean,
11:26that's the game,
11:27isn't it?
11:27I mean,
11:27they're okay.
11:28The league,
11:29we know,
11:30it's okay,
11:30Liverpool slipped up,
11:31but it's done.
11:32And Liverpool have won the title.
11:33There's no question
11:34that's going to happen.
11:35So,
11:35Arsenal,
11:36what do you do if,
11:37you know,
11:38what are you thinking then
11:39if you're Artetti?
11:40You're just going to think,
11:41well,
11:42it's all about
11:43Real Madrid now
11:44because that is the most
11:45important game of the season
11:46for them,
11:46isn't it,
11:47now?
11:47Absolutely.
11:48And the semi-finals,
11:49potential semi-finals
11:51of the Champions League.
11:52The whole club
11:53is buzzing
11:53because of their
11:54Champions League run,
11:55because of the position
11:55they've got themselves into.
11:57So every game,
11:58although they're still
11:59going to try and chase down
12:00Liverpool,
12:01every game is important.
12:02Players want to be playing
12:03in that second leg
12:04next week.
12:05Players want to be playing
12:06in the semi-finals
12:07should they qualify,
12:08which I think they will.
12:09So the whole place,
12:10right to the end
12:11of the season now,
12:13they're going to have,
12:14the manager's going to be
12:16demanding
12:16and the players
12:17are going to have to perform.
12:19It's going to be a hell of a game.
12:19Right.
12:20Let's move on to Sunday.
12:22Chelsea against Ipswich.
12:24So,
12:24I mean,
12:24it's looking like,
12:26well,
12:26of course,
12:26Southampton are down
12:27and then Leicester
12:29and probably Ipswich
12:31because Wolves seem
12:32to be pulling away.
12:32It's a big gap now.
12:34So Chelsea at home,
12:36just a funny old season.
12:37And then they're fourth.
12:38You know,
12:39one minute,
12:39they're great.
12:40The next minute,
12:40it's like a disaster
12:41and everybody wants
12:42the manager out
12:43and let's get rid
12:44of the board.
12:44And now they're in
12:46the Champions League
12:47qualifying positions
12:48on 53 points.
12:50It is some strange stuff
12:51going on this season,
12:52but can't see much further
12:54than a Chelsea win,
12:55can you?
12:55No,
12:56Ipswich will make it difficult.
12:58I think Kieran McKenna
12:59has kept his team going.
13:01The Wolves result
13:02was a massive blow.
13:03There's no doubt
13:04about that,
13:04getting beat at home to Wolves.
13:06It was a game
13:07that they could
13:07ill afford to lose.
13:09I think this is a must-win
13:10game for Chelsea
13:11on 53 points,
13:13as you say,
13:13but Newcastle
13:15on their coattails now.
13:16They've come level
13:17with them after their
13:18victory against Leicester.
13:20So,
13:20fourth and fifth place
13:23at the moment
13:23are on 53 points.
13:26So,
13:27must-win game for Chelsea.
13:28I don't think it'll be easy,
13:30but I'm going
13:30Chelsea 2,
13:31Ipswich 1.
13:32Right,
13:33I'm going to go 2-0.
13:34I'm going to say
13:34Chelsea 2,
13:34Ipswich 1.
13:35Right,
13:36Liverpool then
13:36against West Ham.
13:38Liverpool,
13:38of course,
13:39top.
13:40Should be a parade.
13:41I mean,
13:41this is the interesting thing.
13:43Mo Salah,
13:43they talk about Mo Salah
13:44and this new deal,
13:45a 45 million quid deal.
13:47I think it was always
13:48pretty much certain
13:50that he was going to sign.
13:51I didn't think
13:52he wasn't going to.
13:53Van Dijk as well,
13:55but then with Trent,
13:57looks like it's going
13:58to be Real Madrid for him.
13:59Has this all been timed
14:00about altogether?
14:03Because I hear rumours
14:03that maybe it was timed
14:05so you would get
14:06the Trent announcement
14:07would be at the same time
14:09as the other two
14:10saying that they are
14:10going to stick around.
14:12Because you've got to
14:13keep supporters happy
14:14and the way some of them
14:15have responded to Trent
14:16has not been too good.
14:17Yeah,
14:18exactly.
14:18And I think sometimes
14:19it happens at all clubs
14:21where there's players
14:22and transfers
14:23of free agencies
14:24coming up.
14:26But Liverpool
14:27wouldn't be wanting
14:28to lose all three
14:29of those players.
14:30Ideally,
14:31they'd probably want
14:32to keep all three,
14:33especially as they are
14:34going to be the
14:35Premier League champions.
14:36But Trent can really
14:39call the shots
14:40because of his
14:41contractual situation.
14:42Yeah.
14:42But I see Van Dijk
14:45and Salah
14:46so important
14:47to Liverpool
14:48and I think
14:49the Liverpool supporters
14:50will be delighted
14:51if they secure
14:52their signatures,
14:53which I'm sure
14:53they will.
14:54How do you replace
14:54Mo Salah's goals?
14:55I don't.
14:56You can't go and buy
14:58a replacement
14:59from Mo Salah.
15:00So,
15:00Liverpool need to secure
15:02that.
15:03Captain Van Dijk
15:04has been fabulous
15:05again this season.
15:07He's in the heart
15:08of that defence.
15:08I think he has
15:10a great rapport
15:11with the manager
15:11and I think
15:12that they know
15:13how important
15:13it is to keep him
15:14as well.
15:15So,
15:16I'm going to go
15:17Liverpool
15:17to put it right
15:19in respect of
15:20defeat to Fulham
15:21but marching on
15:23to the Premier League
15:24Championship.
15:25I'm going to go
15:25Liverpool 3-West Ham 0.
15:273-0.
15:27Right,
15:28I'm going to go
15:28Oh,
15:29yeah,
15:30I'm going to stick
15:30with 2-0.
15:31I'm going to go
15:32with 2-0 for that.
15:33Right,
15:34Wolverhampton Wanderers
15:35then.
15:3532 points.
15:36They're in 17th.
15:37playing Spurs
15:39at Molyneux.
15:41Spurs are 14th.
15:43I've got to tell you,
15:44Clive,
15:44I don't fancy this one.
15:46Spurs are 37 points.
15:48Wolves could catch
15:50Spurs up,
15:50let's be honest here
15:51because if they get
15:52three points
15:53then it's within two.
15:55Spurs have still got
15:55some very difficult
15:56games to come
15:57and of course
15:59with the Europa League
16:00as well.
16:01I hate to say
16:02it's going to be
16:02another one of those
16:03things we're going
16:03to have to whisper
16:04but I'm going to go
16:06because I think
16:07last time I
16:07predicted Spurs
16:08to lose,
16:08they did
16:09and I don't want
16:09to be the kiss
16:10of death
16:10but I'm going
16:12Wolves 2,
16:13Spurs 1
16:13and I know
16:14you're not going
16:15to do that
16:15so you can
16:15level it up
16:16with me.
16:17I'm not going
16:172-1
16:18but I'm going
16:191-0 Wolves.
16:20Oh,
16:20you're...
16:20I think
16:21off the back
16:22of the European game...
16:23This is your first
16:24ever prediction
16:25of a Spurs loss.
16:26You know that,
16:27don't you?
16:27Yeah,
16:28I think Wolves...
16:29I know what I'm
16:31doing.
16:31One more victory
16:33for Wolves.
16:34I think they're
16:34safe.
16:35Certainly,
16:36none of those
16:37three below them
16:38will catch them.
16:39There's a real
16:40feel-good factor
16:41about the way
16:42Wolves are playing,
16:43the results they're
16:43achieving
16:44in and Spurs
16:46still indifferent.
16:47That really is the
16:47way I've described
16:48their season.
16:49They've been indifferent.
16:50There's no consistency.
16:52So,
16:53I'm going to go
16:53Wolves to squeak
16:54it.
16:551-0.
16:55Wolves 1,
16:56Spurs 0.
16:57I don't tell anyone.
16:58I know Andrew Poster,
16:59OK,
16:59we'll keep this
17:00between us.
17:00I know Andrew Poster-Coglu
17:01has been
17:01mulling about the press
17:03and saying that he
17:03doesn't get Spurs.
17:04I mean,
17:05he does from us
17:06but we've still
17:07got to be honest
17:08when the team's
17:08not doing well
17:09and you've got a
17:10Tottenham team
17:10which is down in
17:1116th last week
17:13and then just up to
17:1314th.
17:14It's not good enough.
17:16So,
17:16you've got to expect
17:17criticism,
17:18surely.
17:20Cool.
17:2016 defeats.
17:2116 Premier League
17:22defeats.
17:23I think that says it all.
17:24That is something
17:25that is almost
17:27unthinkable
17:27for Tottenham Hotspur
17:29in this
17:30Premier League
17:31campaign.
17:32So,
17:33yeah,
17:33there's a lot
17:34to put right.
17:36Hopefully,
17:37we can still finish
17:38the season
17:39in a spectacular way.
17:42Everything's in the
17:42Europa League basket
17:43now.
17:44Yeah,
17:44okay.
17:45And finally,
17:46last game,
17:48that match
17:48Newcastle
17:49who are still
17:50flying high,
17:51aren't they?
17:51Let's be honest,
17:52since that League
17:53Cup win,
17:54the Carabao Cup.
17:54The partying
17:56hasn't stopped,
17:56has it?
17:57It really hasn't
17:57and it's not like
17:58there's no hangover
17:59either by the look
18:00of things.
18:00So,
18:0053 points,
18:01they're in fifth,
18:02heading for that
18:03Champions League.
18:04I mean,
18:04what?
18:05I mean,
18:05Eddie Howe is going
18:06to get a statue,
18:06isn't he?
18:07If they win,
18:07if they qualify for
18:08the Champions League
18:09and with a trophy
18:11as well,
18:12I mean,
18:12what more can you
18:13want?
18:13And Manchester
18:14United,
18:15languishing,
18:16still 13th
18:18and also Europa
18:20League as well,
18:20of course,
18:21they played on
18:22Thursday,
18:23so there are 38
18:24points.
18:25It's at St James'
18:25Park.
18:27I think we're
18:28both going to
18:28predict,
18:28I think you are
18:29as well,
18:29going to predict
18:30a Newcastle win.
18:31I'm going to say
18:313-1 Newcastle.
18:32What about you?
18:34I'm going to go
18:351-0 Newcastle.
18:36I think it'll be
18:36difficult.
18:37I think Man United
18:38will make it
18:38difficult for
18:39Newcastle.
18:39I think you're
18:40right.
18:41Eddie Howe has
18:41done a brilliant
18:42job.
18:43The League Cup
18:44victory has
18:45completely galvanised
18:46that club.
18:47You know,
18:48they've been waiting
18:48so long,
18:49they've won a
18:50trophy,
18:50but what that
18:51trophy has done
18:52has just given
18:53them so much
18:53energy,
18:54so much impetus
18:55and I think
18:56they're going
18:56to finish
18:56the season
18:57strong.
18:58I think they'll
18:58beat Manchester
18:59United 1-0,
19:00but I'll say
19:01now it will be
19:02a Tottenham
19:02Man United
19:03Europa Cup
19:04final.
19:05Okay,
19:06and if you
19:08don't go that
19:09way,
19:09we will make
19:10sure there is
19:11no record of
19:11you saying
19:12that whatsoever.
19:13Okay.
19:13We'll see.
19:14Clive,
19:15have a great
19:15weekend.
19:17And you
19:17Paul.
19:26going back,
19:43you
19:43know,
19:44him
