00:00Here in the North East we have been blessed with some lovely sunny weather lately but
00:04as we all know far too well that's not going to last forever. So if you're wanting to
00:08get outdoors and make the most of the sun and thinking about heading to the coast to
00:11do so, I have the top 10 rated beaches in the North East according to TripAdvisor.
00:18At number 10 they have Siam Beach. The beach extends approximately half a mile northward
00:22from the town in Harbour offering a unique coastal experience. They have rated St Aidan's
00:28Beach at number 9 which you can find right at the top of the region in Barnborough and
00:31you can walk to sea houses across the Golden Sands.
00:36Next is another Northumberland Beach rated as the 8th best beach here in the North East which
00:40is Almouth Beach. Reviewers have said it has affordable all day parking and is dog friendly.
00:45Rated as the 7th best beach according to TripAdvisor is Long Sands Beach in Tynemouth, a very popular
00:50destination in the summer months and favoured by paddle boarders and other water sports.
00:56In 6th place we have Warkworth Beach which offers stunning views of Warkworth Castle in
00:59Armbell. It's known to have interesting rock pools, sand dunes and salt marshes.
01:05The 5th top rated beaches in the North East according to TripAdvisor is Endleton Bay towards
01:09the Anwick area. You can see Dunstanborough Castle at one end of the bay offering a dramatic
01:14backdrop and a pub at the other to relax after a nice walk across the powdery white sands.
01:20Another one towards the top of the North East. In 4th place we have Rossback Sands Beach which
01:24is quite a quiet beach and known for its beauty with views of Holy Island to the left and
01:29Barneborough Castle to the right. The 15 minute walk from the car park is said to be worth
01:33it. Now we're down to our top 3 and in 3rd place we have Barneborough Beach. It's known
01:37as the best surf spot in the North East with surf hire and lessons available.
01:42According to TripAdvisor, Bedenal Bay is the 2nd best beach here in the North East. Also
01:47around the same area as the previous few at the top of Northumberland. The bay offers an excellent
01:52walk across its long stretches of pale sands with stunning scenery.
01:56And finally the top rated beach in the North East according to TripAdvisor is Roga Beach.
02:00And when you visit you can really see why. It's a popular destination and has had a lot
02:04of investment in redevelopment in recent years. It's well maintained by Sunderland City Council
02:09with plans of demolishing the old Roga amusements to build a two storey family entertainment centre
02:14in its place. Work there is yet to commence. Northumberland beaches have proven to be the most
02:19highly rated beaches across the region. However, in other beach news, a huge project to clear
02:25historic industrial waste from Limemouth Beach has finally been completed. The £5m scheme
02:30funded by Northumberland County Council was brought about after coastal erosion caused waves
02:35to expose a former colliery landfill. Samples of the previously buried debris found it could
02:40be harmful to humans and was in danger of washing into the sea. Contractors BAM say they
02:45have now successfully removed 70 years worth of industrial pollution. Around 1,000 tonnes
02:50of hazardous and non-hazardous materials including asbestos, hydrocarbons, rubber and plastic have
02:56now been removed.
