00:00And now, ladies and gentlemen from the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada, let's get ready to rumble 12 rounds for the NABF and WBO Super Middleweight Championship.
00:14The referee for this bout is Mills Lane.
00:19Introducing first, fighting out of the red corner, he's wearing the cronk gold colors and weighs 165 and 1⁄2 pounds.
00:27From the Motor City, Detroit, Michigan, his professional record, 45 victories, 38 by KO, only three defeats.
00:36Ladies and gentlemen, the only man in boxing history ever to win four world championships in four different divisions, in four different battles, the hitman, Thomas Hayes!
00:50And fighting out of the blue corner, he's wearing the red trunks with white trim and weighs an even 166 pounds from San Diego, California.
01:05His professional record, 43 victories, 30 by KO, only four defeats and two draws.
01:11He currently holds the NABF Super Middleweight Championship.
01:16Ladies and gentlemen, James the Heat, Kinship!
01:23Here we go!
01:29Okay, we've already been through the inflection in the dressing room.
01:35Any questions over here?
01:37Any questions over here?
01:38Let's get it on.
01:39Come on.
01:40Let's get it on.
01:42The charismatic Mills Lane proclaims, as he always does before a big fight.
01:47Mills Lane in another era would have been a Texas Ranger, either wrestling cattle or catching the wrestlers.
01:52I'm not sure which.
01:53He is authoritative.
01:54He's strong.
01:55He's a very, very good referee.
01:57My book, one of the top in the world.
01:58Thomas Hearns says he won't do any boxing.
02:01The days of his jab and move are over.
02:04He says he's going to come out for the quick knockout so he doesn't have a repeat of the Iran-Barkley debacle.
02:10We shall see.
02:14Hearns with vivid flashbacks of his upset defeat to Iran-Barkley right here in this ring as seen on Showtime.
02:22Kinchin had trouble at the beginning of his career.
02:25He was called a heat, but there was very little heat to him.
02:27He waited all until the last rounds to get excited.
02:30Now he claims his last four, five, six fights have all been starting fast.
02:34He has no other recourse here because Tommy Hearns is trying to take his head off.
02:39How about fighting just three weeks ago?
02:43Advantage or disadvantage?
02:44Great disadvantage.
02:46Your tissues don't even heal.
02:47Your stamina's not back.
02:48Great disadvantage.
02:49Tommy looks sharp.
02:52Tommy looks sharp with Barkley.
02:54He looks sharp with Hagler.
02:55It's the fact that all of a sudden, late in his career, he's developed a weak chin and weak ribs.
03:02Pound his ribs, and all of a sudden his hands come down, and he has a look of frustration on him.
03:07But if you let Tommy Hearns punch, you're going bye-bye.
03:12But despite having a fight just three weeks ago, as Kinchin puts it, an opportunity knocks.
03:18You've got to take advantage of the situation.
03:20He's been waiting for this moment in time for a long, long while.
03:24Well, the good news is opportunity knock.
03:27The bad news is on the other side of the door is Tommy Hearns in perfect shape.
03:31Sometimes you step back from opportunity.
03:33Wait a minute.
03:34Can I come back a week or two from now?
03:36Kinchin has been in the top ten the past six years, but has never had a shot at a world title.
03:41He's always been one of those fighters who's been on the fringe.
03:45And this is his moment to climb into the limelight and get a lot of attention with a big upset here.
03:52Tommy looks very sharp.
03:53He doesn't look very desperate right now.
03:54He's just doing what he usually does very well.
03:57Box is good.
03:58Here's Kinchin just going all at it.
04:00Low blow by Kinchin.
04:02Mills is on the other side of it.
04:03Didn't see it.
04:03Hearns, as all boxing fans are aware of, extremely explosive as that lethal knockout power.
04:13He has a lot of leverage.
04:15He's very tall and uses leverage so well, especially when he drops up right hand.
04:19That right hand has landed two or three times already this round.
04:22Not with a great deal of effect, but at least it's sort of range finding.
04:26He's finding the range with the right hand.
04:28Of course, his stamina and legs are a question mark these days.
04:32He turned 30 last month, so as we have said before, he'd like to end this one early.
04:38He's only three defeats to Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley, all three by knockout.
04:42He is still haunted by those losses.
04:45I think he's only going to be haunted by one of those losses.
04:47Barkley, he was beating like a dog.
04:49The other two were superb fights.
04:51Maybe one of the best first rounds I've ever seen in my life was Hagler and Hearns.
04:56And the Leonard fight was a classic.
05:05And that is it for the first round.
05:08Kinchin comes away with a smile on his face.
05:10Almost a smile of relief as if saying, well, I did that.
05:13I survived that round.
05:15What do you know about that?
05:17He certainly didn't do anything to write home about.
05:20He didn't land any hard punches.
05:23He didn't do anything.
05:23There's N-swell being applied to the eye of Burns.
05:26I didn't see any swelling there, but they're very close, so they must be very cautious.
05:31Emmanuel Stewart, Prentice Bird.
05:33Stewart says Kinchin might be a tougher fight than Obamaheer's might have been.
05:37He thinks it's an advantage.
05:39This might be hype.
05:40But he thinks it's an advantage that Kinchin just fought three weeks ago.
05:44He didn't get hurt after 12 rounds, and he says he was in good condition after the fight.
05:49He might just try to make Kinchin overconfident.
05:52That's not only hype, but that's wishful thinking and wishling straight.
05:55He'll take everything down.
05:59Everything down.
06:02A hush falling over this sellout crowd of the Las Vegas Hilton.
06:10Round two scheduled for 12 for the NABF super middleweight, The Crown, which is held by James Kinchin.
06:17And the winner will also be recognized by the new World Boxing Organization.
06:21So if Hearns wins, he'll get an unprecedented fifth world title.
06:24There's a snappy left by Hearns.
06:26And a right by Hearns.
06:29When Hearns is on, he's on.
06:32He is a thing of beauty when he's punching hard.
06:34Generally a quick starter, has a whip of a left and a right, especially early.
06:44That right hand that he's been measuring him for in the first round landed.
06:48Kinchin just landed a right hand.
06:49Not hard, but he landed it and laced Mr. Hearns in the bargain.
06:54Put his laces all over his face.
06:56Not a nice thing to do.
06:58Causes some swelling.
06:59Thomas Hearns in the gold, the front gold, one of those rare commodities with one-punch knockout power.
07:07A warning there for Mills Lane.
07:09And Mills said, one more, and I'm taking a point.
07:11And Hearns said, hey, I just got started, Coach.
07:13I mean, I only got one point ahead.
07:15Don't take it all.
07:20Well, he said he was going to come out, throw his boxing skills out the window,
07:24and go right at James Kinchin.
07:26But I see a lot of boxing out there.
07:28Yep, this looks like the old Tommy Hearns, boxing patiently, waiting for his shot to come.
07:33Not getting crazy.
07:35How often we hear him, you know, oh, nice right hand, and that buckle, Kinchin coming in.
07:41I think that right hand is going to be Kinchin's undoing.
07:46Less than a minute 20 remaining round two.
07:49Kinchin, a smart fighter, always perceived as a very competent, rugged performer,
07:53but not quite in the same class with the big guys.
07:56But that's what they said about Barkley prior to the win over Hearns,
08:00although, as you said, Hearns was ahead until that devastating punch in the third round.
08:06Less than a minute remaining round two.
08:08Kinchin had a lot of talent when he started.
08:12He just, there was something inside of him that didn't come up to heat to his nickname.
08:17He just was too calm about things, but he has a punch.
08:20He has a very good punch.
08:21Now, a significant thing is he landed a good right hand to the body of Tommy Hearns.
08:27Tommy Hearns readjusted his trunks like saying,
08:29Wait a minute, let me put this up a little bit.
08:32He does not like to get hit in the body.
08:34And, as many fighters said, who do?
08:40Now, Kinchin is starting to work the body and the head of Hearns' first good offensive action on the part of Kinchin.
08:46So far, he's been content to catch.
08:48Bob and Weave make a miss.
08:52I think what Kinchin's doing is getting his confidence up.
08:55He's saying, Hey, here I am with Tommy Hearns, and I'm still fighting, and I'm still doing good,
08:58and let's see where we go from here.
09:00Hearns at 6'1", Kinchin 5'9 1⁄2.
09:05And that is it for round two.
09:10You know, no matter what is said about the experience of fighters,
09:13you still get in with a legend, and that's what Tommy Hearns has become, a legend.
09:17And you still look across the ring and say, Holy cow, I'm in here with this guy.
09:21I've been watching him for the last 10 years, and you get impressed by it.
09:24Ali won more fights off reputation of jives than anybody.
09:27And I think Tommy Hearns is in that position.
09:31There is so much to the mystique of Tommy Hearns,
09:34that the Cobra, the hitter, the assassin, you know what I mean?
09:38It's impressive to you.
09:40So far, Kinchin has acted like a guy that's just happy to have that.
09:43And he has not launched his attack.
09:46Somewhere along in here, he's going to have to start punching with authority
09:48to the body, especially of Tommy Hearns.
09:51And Kinchin has great respect for Thomas Hearns,
09:54says he does not feel Hearns is on his way out.
09:57He said he will enter the ring expecting anything from Mr. Hearns.
10:03Well, I, for one, will miss him when he's gone.
10:05He's giving us an enormous amount of enjoyment.
10:08He's had a wonderful career.
10:09And he is, and he is a truly nice man and a good champion,
10:13good example for the, uh, for the public.
10:16He has thrilled the boxing audiences for about 11 years.
10:19Two class acts in the ring here, actually.
10:22Both Kinchin's and...
10:22Oh, I thought you were talking about...
10:24But you can't win on defense.
10:37...but not a landing.
10:39No, I'm Kinchin talking.
10:41Kinchin just babbling away.
10:42Kinchin looking very mean in there.
10:48The way Kinchin is turned and the way he is ducking with his head,
10:53he's going to get hit with a straight right hand.
10:56There's a first warning to Kinchin.
10:59Yeah, he was hitting low.
11:01Easier for Kinchin to hit low because of Hearns' trunks way up there.
11:07The famous crunk goal trunks of Thomas Hearns
11:10and Kinchin in the red with the white piping.
11:12Kronk Gold, that's what they call him and that's what they are.
11:19In years, Amanda Stewart has built up a heck of a stable of good fighters,
11:23giving us a lot of enjoyment, and he has been very steady in boxing,
11:26a steady influence, great influence in the city of Detroit.
11:29From the Motor City.
11:33And a little light there by Kinchin that landed, but not that hard.
11:37Nice combination.
11:38He's just sort of testing the water to see how deep he can get in
11:41before he gets hit back.
11:42If he can get in combinations,
11:46then he knows Tommy's not firing as fast as he used to.
11:54Not an eventful fight right now.
11:56Sort of a chess game.
11:57I think Tommy has been influenced a great deal by what happened to him with Barker.
12:03He's not all out.
12:04He's not letting it all hang out.
12:06He's boxing carefully.
12:07I think that has to have had a great impression on him.
12:10He certainly can't afford another one of those nights.
12:12Less than a minute remaining.
12:13Round three.
12:14Hearns on the cautious side here in the opening rounds of this championship fight.
12:20And not that Hearns is not winning these rounds.
12:23He is piling up the points, but he's not doing any damage.
12:25He's not intimidating Kinchin.
12:27He is, in fact, allowing Kinchin to feel that he is in this fight and can come on.
12:31If I was in Kinchin's corner, I would be turning up the heat this next round.
12:38Wes Rumble will be the man doing the talking in that corner in 22 seconds.
12:47Snappy left jab by Hearns.
12:48Followed by the right.
12:51But Kinchin caught every one of those jabs on a glove,
12:54which means Kinchin is fighting a very decent, very nice, respectable defensive fight.
13:01Not winning the rounds.
13:03But he's not getting hurt.
13:06And round three is history.
13:15James the Heat, Kinchin,
13:18the NABF Superbitaway champion.
13:21His first 17 fights as a light heavyweight
13:25has always had problems making 160 pounds.
13:30His last nine fights at 168.
13:32He's more comfortable at this weight,
13:34but he would like to step back up to light heavyweight.
13:37Wes Wombo is now talking to him in a very calm manner.
13:40He's certainly not exhorting him on.
13:42There are no bumps or bruises or anything on Kinchin,
13:44yet he's been getting punched.
13:46And over on Tommy Hearns' corner,
13:48he's got Inswell put in,
13:50and he's got an ice bag on the other side.
13:52Although I can't for the life.
13:53If you see it indicated,
13:55I don't see anything on his face.
13:56It makes it look any different to me.
13:57It doesn't look like he needs it.
14:06And round four, scheduled for 12.
14:08Both fighters seem very lively and sharp.
14:17Kinchin's only four defeats.
14:19James Schuller,
14:20Iran Barkley,
14:22Juan Roldan,
14:23and Larry Musgrove.
14:24He's 43-4-2 at 30 knockdowns.
14:32As long as we're going to see a jabbing contest,
14:34keep your eyes on the gloves of Kinchin.
14:36Watch how many of those jabs he's lost.
14:38He's blocked out.
14:40I mean,
14:40that's an art to catch jabs.
14:43Problem is,
14:44you start looking at jabs pretty soon,
14:45and the right hand flashes over from nowhere,
14:47and you're out.
14:48That's the second one for you.
14:49That's the second warning, yes.
14:50They touch gloves,
14:56and Kinchin apologizes.
14:58Musgrove officiates a fight
15:00in a very orderly fashion
15:01and doesn't like to see it get away from him.
15:03Although, I must say,
15:03this is an extremely clean fight.
15:05Very clean fight.
15:07I mean,
15:07if there are low blows,
15:09they're accidental and unintentional,
15:10and they're not with a great deal of force.
15:13And a smile on the face of Tommy Hearns.
15:16Looks like he's toying with Kinchin here.
15:18Throwing machine gun-like combinations,
15:22but not landing.
15:22That right may have connected.
15:25Ooh, a left by Kinchin,
15:27and Hearns is down!
15:28Thomas Hearns is down here in the fourth round.
15:33That proves that Hearns has no chin left
15:37because those were not hard punches.
15:40And Hearns is in trouble.
15:42He's wobbling along there.
15:43And Kinchin all over him.
15:46With a minute 19 and counting,
15:48Tommy Hearns is in trouble.
15:50And round four.
15:52Kinchin better watch out
15:53because Tommy can punch.
15:56Tommy in trouble.
15:57Kinchin spelling the finish.
15:59Can he polish off Thomas Hearns?
16:02Hearns doesn't know how to hold him.
16:03Mills Lane is trying to break them up.
16:06Mills having a hard time
16:07because Tommy Hearns is holding on for dear life.
16:10That could get him disqualified.
16:11They're just hanging on to each other,
16:13and Hearns pulling Kinchin back in
16:15so he can survive the round.
16:17They're not hanging on to each other.
16:18That's Hearns hanging on to Kinchin.
16:21Kinchin's trying to get away.
16:23Kinchin needs to get away.
16:24Look at him.
16:24That is a wrestling hole that he's got on Kinchin.
16:27Mills could disqualify him.
16:30And the crowd getting on Hearns.
16:32And now he hangs on to Mills Lane.
16:36He's wobbly.
16:37He's in all kinds of trouble.
16:38Yeah, but Mills Lane gave a tremendous advantage.
16:42To spend that much time trying to break up fighters
16:45is a colossal advantage.
16:48Kinchin just swarming all over Hearns.
16:51Remember, Kinchin just fought three weeks ago.
16:53There's a lot of stamina problem there.
16:55He hurt his hand as well,
16:56so he's got to come back.
16:58Even if his hand is hurt,
16:59he's got to keep on going.
17:00Hearns looks like he's recovered his legs.
17:03Yeah, now he's starting to move.
17:04And now he's starting to punch hard.
17:06And he's made it.
17:08Throw the round.
17:09Big round for Kinchin.
17:11And without the help of Mills Lane,
17:13he might not have made it.
17:15Now Mills is going over.
17:17And he is saying something to each official.
17:20I don't know what that is.
17:21That's a 10-8 round already anyway.
17:23Thomas Hearns knocked down
17:27with about a minute 25 remaining
17:29in that fourth round.
17:33But he held and held and held,
17:35and he survived.
17:37And Mills Lane, because he's a small man,
17:39even though he's a powerful man,
17:41he's a small man,
17:42he could not separate Hearns,
17:44who had a death grip on Kinchin's throat,
17:47and that got to be some kind of an advantage
17:49that can't be permitted.
17:51Can't be permitted by a referee now.
17:54He should be over there
17:55warning the other guy.
17:57Well, that big right penetrated
17:58and then followed up by the left.
18:01And down went Hearns.
18:03I think he said,
18:05I took a point away from him.
18:06If he took a point away,
18:08then that was a 10-7 round,
18:10and this fight's even.
18:12Round five, scheduled for 12.
18:14Well, Tommy is back.
18:21Look at Tommy.
18:26Oh, the signals we have gotten
18:28that one point was deducted
18:29since it was already a 10-8 round.
18:31It became a 10-7 round,
18:33and it is now a tie fight,
18:3637-37.
18:37Bobby is holding infraction
18:38on Thomas Hearns in that fourth round,
18:41holding on for dear life.
18:43Could another upset be in the making
18:46here on Showtime,
18:47even though Kinchin's the NABF champion?
18:50If Kinchin doesn't make it to win here
18:52until the end,
18:53he will forever be thinking
18:55about the time spent
18:56trying to get free
18:57from Tommy Hearns
18:59and Mills Lane in the middle.
19:00What a sandwich.
19:01Well, that's what you get
19:05for being very experienced
19:07and very respected.
19:08Tommy's a champion.
19:09He was respected.
19:09He was given an awful lot of respect,
19:11and he was experienced enough
19:12to hold on,
19:13no matter what.
19:15A snappy right by Hearns
19:17that landed flush on the face.
19:21Kinchin should be going
19:21right to the body.
19:22That's where Tommy Hearns
19:24can no longer take those punches.
19:27I mean,
19:28what put Tommy Hearns down
19:29wasn't even a hard punch.
19:31Wasn't even a rock'em sock'em punch.
19:44Kinchin trying too hard
19:45to force the action now
19:47when he should go back
19:47to doing what he was doing well,
19:49blocking everything,
19:50waiting for his opportunity,
19:51letting it land
19:52because Tommy was in
19:54a whole heap of trouble,
19:55and you don't recover
19:56so easily from that.
19:58He must have been thinking,
19:59not again.
20:00Here comes Tommy's right hand.
20:02He's turned,
20:03ready to throw it,
20:03and does it.
20:05Look at this.
20:07What kind of fighting is that?
20:10That's called
20:11a swimmer overhand style.
20:13Less than a minute
20:14remaining round five.
20:18Tommy back,
20:19just trying to get himself together.
20:20He's not trying to knock out Kinchin.
20:22He's not trying to do anything
20:23except get himself together
20:24this round
20:25and resume his winning ways.
20:28Hearns looking confident
20:30in that, Flurry.
20:32Come on,
20:32says Kinchin.
20:33That's nothing.
20:35Kinchin keeps talking to him.
20:36He's a talkative guy.
20:37Save you some work afterwards.
20:45He could interview himself.
20:47Yeah.
20:52Final seconds, round five.
20:55Interesting round to judge.
20:58Kinchin chasing,
20:59aggressive.
21:00Hearns good in fighting in retreat.
21:05Putting his punches in.
21:07Almost an even round.
21:08Interesting round to judge.
21:10Nice defensive round
21:11for James Kinchin.
21:15Blocking most of those
21:16Thomas Hearns punches.
21:20Hearns looking tired.
21:21They keep moving
21:22and letting the juices flow.
21:28There's that devilish right
21:30by Hearns
21:30and the smile
21:31immediately by Kinchin.
21:33In and out.
21:33In and out.
21:34Look at them working
21:35on Tommy Hearns.
21:37He is breathing
21:38heavily from his mouth.
21:40All of a sudden,
21:41they've forgotten the inswell.
21:42All of a sudden,
21:43they've forgotten the ice bag
21:44and now it's survival time.
21:48He's taking gigantic breaths
21:50right now.
21:51Gas, you might even call them.
21:53Whereas, at Kinchin Corner,
21:55they look like...
21:57Does that possibly be right?
21:58Kinchin Corner?
21:59Very good.
22:00Yes.
22:01In the Heat's Corner,
22:02they seem to be talking quietly
22:03about the possibilities
22:05of winning this fight.
22:08Round six.
22:14A lunging right
22:21by Kinchin.
22:25His level
22:26is Thomas Hearns.
22:28His knees buckled
22:29just a bit.
22:30An overhead right
22:31by Kinchin.
22:32They're right above us.
22:35Hearns trying to punch
22:36his way off the ropes.
22:39Hearns buckled
22:40and got in trouble
22:40but caught himself
22:41and fought off
22:42a determined Kinchin.
22:44Kinchin just trying
22:45patiently to wait
22:46for that shot.
22:47Kinchin knows
22:47one shot can do it now.
22:49He's not crazy.
22:49He knows he can do it.
22:51And Hearns knows it too.
22:52So Hearns triggers off
22:53four, five, six punches
22:54to try to keep Hearns off.
22:56I have to try
22:56to keep Kinchin off.
22:58James Kinchin
22:59on the red
22:59just bobbing
23:00and weaving
23:00and waiting for the moment.
23:03Kinchin cannot afford
23:04to get careless now
23:05because he can get
23:06carried out of here
23:06just as easily.
23:08Remember,
23:09this is the hitman.
23:10This is Hearns.
23:11He can put you out
23:12with one shot.
23:14But this is a new Hearns.
23:15This is Hearns
23:16who can't take a punch.
23:17So...
23:18Another warning
23:22as if he didn't have
23:25enough trouble.
23:25Mills Lane
23:26is patrolling the area
23:27and not letting him go.
23:28Look at that.
23:28Kinchin stalking Hearns.
23:37How one round
23:40can even up
23:40things
23:41is amazing
23:42in boxing.
23:43He was on his way
23:43to getting slack
23:44and all of a sudden
23:45it's Tommy.
23:46Oh, nice right hand.
23:47Hearns again buckled.
23:49Holding on.
23:50When you see Hearns
23:51grabbing by the back
23:52of the head
23:52and holding on,
23:53it's in his legs
23:54a week.
23:56Kinchin who knocked
23:57Hearns down
23:58with a right hand
23:59on the fourth
24:00has had Hearns
24:02buckled a couple
24:03of times here
24:03on the sixth.
24:04I wouldn't say
24:09he's reeling around
24:10but his legs
24:10are not steady.
24:13His Hearns
24:14is not on steady legs
24:16and he doesn't seem
24:17sure of himself
24:18at this moment.
24:18And he's fighting
24:19most of this fight
24:20backing up
24:20less than a minute
24:21remaining round six.
24:23Kinchin on the other hand
24:24looks like a guy
24:25that's waiting
24:25for Santa Claus.
24:26He's ready for Christmas.
24:28One good shot
24:29and he's going
24:29to open his presence.
24:32He's not excited
24:33Kinchin.
24:34He's taking his time.
24:36Of course,
24:37that has been
24:38his drawback.
24:38He can never
24:39get excited.
24:40He just fights
24:41his same fight.
24:44On this evening,
24:45it has suited
24:45his purposes.
24:48Kinchin just
24:49very consistent,
24:50very steady.
24:53Low blow there
24:53by Kinchin.
24:56Goes lame.
24:57It was out of his view.
24:57The crowd saw it
24:58on that side.
24:59Less than
24:59five seconds.
25:01Round six.
25:03Thomas Kearns.
25:16Coming up later
25:17here on Showtime,
25:18it'll be the IVF
25:19Junior Middleweight Championship
25:20with Matthew Hilton
25:21defending against
25:22Robert Bam Bam Heights.
25:24Many of the folks here,
25:25the experts feel
25:25that this will be
25:26the most competitive
25:27of this tripleheader
25:28championship card.
25:29round seven.
25:36It is scheduled
25:37for 12,
25:37the NABF
25:38Super Middleweight
25:39Championship.
25:43James Kinchin
25:44won that title
25:45just three weeks ago
25:48in Lake Tahoe.
25:50And now he's
25:51a substitute
25:51for Oval Mejias
25:53for this fight
25:54against Tommy Hearns,
25:56and he has had
25:56the upper hand.
25:57And now I'll bet you
25:59as we go into
26:00round seven
26:00that there were
26:01precious few people
26:02who thought they'd be
26:03sitting here at this time
26:04watching Kinchin ahead
26:06and dictating
26:07the pace of the fight
26:08and chasing Tommy Hearns
26:10while Tommy Hearns
26:11waits for his lyrics
26:12to return from
26:13their vacation.
26:17Hearns not able
26:18to accomplish
26:19what he set out to do,
26:20come out almost
26:20kamikaze style
26:21and abandon boxing
26:23and jabbing
26:24and just go
26:25right at the body
26:26of Kinchin
26:27inside of the box
26:28and Kinchin
26:29has controlled
26:30the tempo.
26:32We just saw Kinchin
26:33go right to the area
26:34we referred to,
26:35the ribs.
26:36When he has them
26:37in the corner,
26:38he can't get to the head
26:39he's so tall
26:39and he's got those
26:40long arms
26:40but he can get
26:41right to those ribs
26:42and put in a good
26:43right hand
26:43into the heart.
26:44That's pay dirt.
26:45That's what's going
26:46to get it for James
26:47Kinchin
26:47if he is going
26:48to do it.
26:49Those body shots
26:50weakened Thomas Hearns.
26:53Hearns on the other
26:53hand has that
26:54devastating punching
26:55power.
26:57Boy, that was the
26:57right hand I spoke
26:58about early in the
26:59round and that landed
27:00and it was right
27:01where Tommy wanted it
27:02and he threw it
27:02as hard as he could
27:03and didn't do anything
27:05to James Kinchin.
27:06Kinchin going for
27:07his seventh straight
27:08win.
27:09Maybe Emmanuel
27:13Stewart was
27:14very accurate
27:16pointing out that
27:17Kinchin having just
27:18fought three weeks
27:19ago was sharper
27:21of the two.
27:23Certainly sharper
27:24tonight.
27:25It never works out
27:25that way but it
27:26is tonight.
27:29Hearns waiting
27:29for that one-two
27:30waiting.
27:31He dropped that
27:31right hand.
27:32See his legs?
27:34He's just
27:35legs aren't there.
27:37They're not the
27:37same legs of a
27:38man that's
27:39in full command.
27:40He almost tripped
27:40over his own feet.
27:41Well, he's tripping
27:42over the canvas
27:43stitches here.
27:45Any little thing
27:46causes him to
27:47lose balance.
27:49It has been a
27:50rugged night to
27:51this point for
27:52Thomas Hearns.
27:54Decked in the
27:54fourth round.
27:55We are now in
27:55the seventh.
27:58Seriously decked
27:59in a round.
28:00Gave him a 10-8
28:00round and then
28:01Mills Lane took
28:02off a point making
28:03it a 10-7 round
28:04thereby drawing the
28:05fight even and now
28:06Kinchin dictating
28:07the action and
28:08coming forward
28:09it's a judge's
28:10choice.
28:10Some people like
28:11Kinchin doing that
28:12some people like
28:12the way that
28:13Tommy is fighting
28:14in retreat.
28:14I personally like
28:15Kinchin's style
28:16right now and I
28:17have him ahead
28:18by a slight margin.
28:19It's a very, very
28:20close fight right now.
28:21As we approach 10
28:25seconds remaining
28:26round seven, the
28:28chants of Tommy
28:29ring up.
28:35Oh, as Kinchin went
28:36to the body at the
28:37bell.
28:38Low blow right at the
28:40bell.
28:41Can't feel good but
28:42you got one minute to
28:43get over it.
28:43During that last round,
28:56a shot of Thomas
28:57Hearn's mother
28:58praying.
28:59I think there was a
29:01lot of company for her
29:02here.
29:03A lot of people are
29:04praying, many for
29:05different motives, but
29:06he is an overwhelming
29:08favorite here.
29:09No question about it.
29:10Everybody loves
29:11Tommy Hearn's in there.
29:13We are in Vegas.
29:14It would be incorrect
29:16not to surmise that a
29:18gargantuan sum of money
29:19is riding on Tommy
29:20Hearn's and it looks
29:21like it's going out
29:22the window.
29:23We don't know that for
29:24sure because this is a
29:25very close fight.
29:28James Kinchin in
29:29command as we get
29:30ready for round eight.
29:37Kinchin in the red.
29:39Hearn's in the gold.
29:44Kinchin, the NABF
29:45super middleweight
29:46champ, but the winner
29:47of tonight's fight will
29:48also be recognized by
29:50the newly created world
29:51boxing organization,
29:52which is an outgrowth
29:55of the WBA, which is
29:57an outgrowth of, which
29:59is an outgrowth of.
30:00This is a family show.
30:02They keep separating
30:04like amoeba, reproducing
30:05right before your eyes.
30:07You now have so many
30:08there's not enough.
30:08They're going to have to
30:09start putting numbers.
30:10There's not enough
30:11letters in the alphabet
30:12now.
30:13Running out.
30:14The WBO says they are
30:16a result of the WBA
30:17gone bad.
30:20Well, that's an
30:21original thought.
30:22In the meantime,
30:24Tommy Hearn's on
30:25original thought
30:25doubled up on a jab
30:27and caught Kinchin
30:27with both of them.
30:29These blows don't seem
30:29to be hurting Kinchin
30:30though.
30:31I mean, as hard as
30:31Tommy can punch,
30:32nothing is happening
30:33to Kinchin.
30:34Certainly nothing to
30:35dissuade him from
30:36coming forth, trying to
30:37land that one lucky
30:38shot, that Christmas
30:39punch that he's been
30:40looking for.
30:40Sometimes you get
30:41spoiled landing that
30:43one good shot.
30:44There's a nice shot.
30:45Overhand right by Kinchin.
30:46There's a nice left
30:47and look at Tommy
30:48holding on.
30:48When he's hurt,
30:49he holds on.
30:49Now comes Mills
30:50laying again.
30:53Last time that
30:54happened, he held
30:54on the lane.
30:55I thought they were
30:56going to be there
30:57all through up to
30:59Thanksgiving.
31:01Well, Thanksgiving
31:01may come early for
31:03James Kinchin if he
31:04continues this.
31:05Well, he's fighting
31:07no turkey tonight
31:08because that's Tommy
31:09Hearns up there
31:10and if he can beat
31:10him, that is a huge
31:12feather in the cap of
31:13James Kinchin.
31:14It just goes on and
31:15on.
31:18Body shots, body
31:19shots.
31:20That's what's going to
31:20get Tommy.
31:21Body shots.
31:23Tommy's holding on,
31:25just holding on and
31:27smiling, trying to smile.
31:30There's a heavy right by
31:32Kinchin and Hearns may be
31:34in trouble here.
31:35Body shots get him in
31:36trouble.
31:37A minute remaining in
31:38round eight.
31:39Oh, what a right by
31:40Hearns.
31:41But Kinchin comes right
31:43back.
31:45That was a little sucker
31:47move on the part of
31:48Tommy, but while he was
31:49laughing and acting like
31:50nothing, he took a huge
31:51amount of shots to the
31:52body.
31:53That's not good for
31:54Tommy.
31:54Tommy's trying real hard
31:55with that right hand.
31:57Something about James
31:58Kinchin can take that
31:59right hand.
32:00Why, I don't know,
32:00because it is a
32:01devastator.
32:02Just an explosive right
32:04by Hearns, but Kinchin
32:06didn't flinch.
32:08Didn't flinch, came back
32:09and kept punching.
32:11There goes Kinchin
32:12again.
32:15This Kinchin won't stop.
32:16He's got that
32:16determination.
32:20Final seconds of the
32:22eighth round.
32:23Tommy's got to be
32:23thinking, what do I have
32:24to do?
32:25Hooks, straight right
32:26hands, hooks to the
32:27body, and nothing's
32:28happening.
32:29Left to the body by
32:30Hearns.
32:30Combination by Hearns,
32:33but glancing blows.
32:36And that's it for
32:36round eight.
32:37Terrific action towards
32:38the end.
32:40Hard to judge again.
32:42They're going for
32:43Shirk over in the
32:44Hearns corner.
32:45Emanuel Stewart and
32:46Prentice Bird exhorting
32:48Hearns on.
32:50With the amount of
32:51body shots and the
32:52amount of punches that
32:53he took in this corner,
32:55one wonders how you
32:55would judge it.
32:56because all of these
32:58punches, during which
32:59time Hearns was acting
33:01like nothing was
33:02happening, he comes
33:03back with a straight
33:03right hand and a good
33:05hook to the body, but
33:06how do you score that?
33:06He got hit like 20
33:07punches, he came back
33:08with two good ones.
33:09You've got to give it
33:10to Kinchin.
33:11And then the rest of the
33:12round was even.
33:13Back and forth they
33:14went.
33:14This is an extremely
33:15close fight, and if the
33:17popularity of the great
33:18champion, and if the
33:20legend of Tommy Hearns
33:22influences the judges,
33:23then he's going to sneak
33:25by with something which
33:26is going to be highly
33:27questioned.
33:28But we're not through
33:29with this.
33:29We've got a long way to
33:30go to round 12.
33:33We are getting set for
33:34round nine.
33:36Here we go.
33:40Kinchin continues to talk
33:42to Thomas Hearns.
33:44Well, a verbiage would
33:45have it, he wins an
33:47unanimous decision.
33:49Tommy has not said a
33:50word.
33:51Thomas Hearns, a former
33:52NABF middleweight
33:54champion.
33:55Kinchin, the NABF
33:56super middleweight
33:57champ.
33:59This is a 168-pound
34:00division.
34:02Kinchin at 166, Hearns
34:04165-and-a-half at the
34:05weigh-in this morning.
34:12Round nine of a fight
34:14that has seen Kinchin on
34:15the verge of stepping
34:17into big-time greatness
34:19by knocking out a
34:20legendary champion.
34:22Former four-time world
34:24champ.
34:26And a fight that has
34:27seesawed back and forth.
34:28Hearns it fighting
34:29brilliantly in retreat,
34:31not being able to keep
34:33Kinchin off, not being
34:35able to inflict punishment,
34:37not discouraging him.
34:38Kinchin for his part,
34:39waiting for that one shot,
34:40not landing as many
34:42shots, though, from time
34:43to time as Tommy is
34:44doing in retreat.
34:47When Tommy stops
34:48fighting and gets to
34:49the corner, then comes
34:50a shower of punches
34:51from Kinchin, which
34:53wins in the round.
34:54We have the battle of
34:55the supporters in the
34:57crowd.
34:58Chance of Tommy and
34:59then chance of Heat.
35:02Tommy Heat, that's a
35:03catchy number.
35:06Tommy Hearns, who was
35:07knocked down back in the
35:08fourth by a right.
35:10By James Kinchin.
35:19Again, Kinchin with that
35:20money-in-the-bank shot
35:22right under the heart of
35:23Hearns.
35:24Hearns sticks and moves.
35:28Hearns, for all of his
35:29trouble, is fighting a
35:31brilliant fight in retreat.
35:33You can't take anything
35:34away from him.
35:34And Kinchin fighting a
35:37smart fight and a patient
35:39fight.
35:40Less than a minute
35:41remaining, round nine.
35:42He's a man who feels that
35:44he's sitting on a knockout
35:45and it's going to come when
35:46it comes.
35:47He's not pressing.
35:51Hearns spins Kinchin
35:53around.
35:54And now it's Kinchin, who
35:55for the first time has felt
35:56it.
35:57Kinchin, for the first time,
35:58buckled a little bit with
35:59that right-hand shot.
36:01Solid right by Hearns.
36:03Low blow.
36:05Very low blow by Hearns.
36:07Way below the belt.
36:08And a hard one.
36:10Mills Lane was situated
36:12behind Kinchin, so they
36:13didn't see it.
36:14Now Kinchin with Hearns on
36:23the ropes, approaching 10
36:25seconds.
36:26Best round for Hearns in a
36:28while.
36:29Much.
36:30Oh, another low blow.
36:31Another one.
36:32That time Mills Lane right
36:33on top of it.
36:36Oh, right at the bell.
36:37A punch by Hearns.
36:39It didn't hurt during the
36:41round, and it doesn't hurt
36:42after the bell.
36:42He seems to be immune from
36:44those right-hand shots of
36:46Tommy Hearns, and let me
36:48tell you, they have put many
36:49a warrior on his back.
36:50This guy can punch with the
36:52right hand.
36:52He's landing it right on the
36:53button, right where he wants
36:54it, with the strength he
36:55wants it.
36:55Kinchin shakes it off.
36:57He's fligmatic.
36:58I'll say that.
36:58He is just determined to
37:00fight his fight.
37:05There's a little dispute of
37:09command in the corner.
37:11Wambol said to one of the
37:12guys, you don't care about
37:12saying nothing.
37:13I'm the one that talks to the
37:14fighter.
37:15Take charge, West Wambol.
37:18Side to side, up and down.
37:19I want to see you moving it
37:20behind punches.
37:21I want to see that right hand,
37:22I want to see the left hook
37:23behind it.
37:24I want your punches to flow.
37:25Don't try for nothing.
37:26It'll come.
37:26Come on.
37:27Stop it.
37:27I won't.
37:28I won't.
37:32Some very direct instructions
37:34from Wambol.
37:35And here we go into round 10.
37:39Scheduled for 12.
37:41The fight teeter-tottering one point
37:43one way or another.
37:45Right now, quite unofficially,
37:47I have Kinchin ahead 85-84.
37:51But that's predicated on the fact
37:53that that round was a 10-7 round
37:54where he went down the fourth,
37:56where Hearns went down.
37:58The judges might not have given
37:59it that ample.
38:01Kinchin fighting a very astute,
38:03patient fight.
38:03Hearns looking for that one
38:05explosive knockout punch.
38:08And ironic that the very thing
38:09that's been the criticism of
38:11James Kinchin throughout his
38:12entire career has been his
38:14strength tonight.
38:14That's his patience, his
38:16willingness to stick to his
38:17game plan, to not get excited,
38:19to not go crazy.
38:20And he's done that.
38:21So far, it's worked for him
38:22apparently.
38:24Quite unofficial, and we know
38:25that's a very subjective thing.
38:28A fight like this can be
38:29very subjective, especially
38:30Tommy, as big a favorite as
38:32he is.
38:32This is a man who fought just
38:33three weeks ago.
38:36James Kinchin in the red.
38:38And he won the NABF Super
38:39Middleweight Crown.
38:40Well, he's more than earned
38:41his money tonight.
38:44How often a guy comes in that's
38:45a substitute, not expected to
38:47last long, and all of a sudden
38:49gives a guy that's been
38:50preparing life and death.
38:51Still again for all over here.
38:53What a shot by Tommy.
38:55Two shots by Tommy.
38:56A hook and a right hand.
38:58Actually, it was three.
38:59It was a shot to the body, a
39:00hook to the head, and a
39:01right hand.
39:02And you can't draw him up on
39:03the board any better than
39:04that.
39:04And Kinchin walks in, talking
39:07to Hearns.
39:08Oh, caught him in mid-adjective.
39:10That right by Kinchin, a
39:12glancing blow.
39:15There's another right by
39:16Kinchin that was blocked by
39:18Hearns.
39:18Kinchin just won't be stopped.
39:25It keeps coming, relentless.
39:27That is the word.
39:29Relentless.
39:30It just won't stop.
39:32Again with the talking.
39:35Hearns doubling up.
39:37But again, not phasing Kinchin.
39:39Ooh, nice shot by...
39:42You know, you see these shots,
39:44water sprays from the head of
39:46Kinchin, and you think, my
39:47goodness, he's got to fold
39:48now.
39:49Nothing happens.
39:49Right out of the Raging Bull
39:50movie.
39:51Whoa.
39:52I mean, this is an excess of
39:54Rocky here.
39:54Tommy's eye is swelling up.
40:09Yeah.
40:09And he's trying to measure
40:11Kinchin out.
40:12He's trying to take his legs out
40:14from under him with body shots,
40:15which is exactly what Kinchin
40:17should have been doing all his
40:18time to Hearns.
40:22Final seconds of the tenth
40:23round.
40:24Now Hearns, the fight, big
40:28right there by Hearns that
40:29snuck in.
40:30The fight is ebbing his way
40:32now because of the laziness
40:34on the part of Kinchin, not
40:35because of the destructive
40:36power.
40:37Somehow he's gone to sleep, and
40:39this is now a totally even
40:41fight.
40:42And a show of good
40:42sportsmanship as they touch
40:44gloves before they head to
40:45their corners.
40:47Kinchin with a big smile.
40:48Two real class acts.
40:52Well, there's only two more
40:53rounds to go, and this
40:54fight is dead even on my
40:55card.
40:56If the judges are anywhere
40:57near it, it should be a very
40:59interesting last two rounds.
41:00Right in the middle of the
41:01forehead.
41:03He'll take them out of there.
41:03See, if it should happen,
41:05that Kinchin loses his fight
41:08because he can't get his energy
41:09going the last two rounds.
41:10He will forever dream about
41:12the time that he had Tommy
41:13completely out, and he was
41:15sandwiched with Mills Lane in
41:17between these two guys for a full...
41:19I'd like to know what that
41:20count was.
41:20It must have been 20, 30 seconds,
41:22wouldn't you say?
41:22It had to be a long time.
41:24It's a long time to give a fight.
41:32Both spring to their feet at
41:33exactly the same time.
41:35They want more.
41:35Little smirk from Tommy.
41:38Here's a touch gloves, and it's
41:39the 11th round, not the 12th.
41:43I think Tommy figures he is
41:44winning this fight now.
41:45His last two rounds have been
41:46Tommy's.
41:47He's landing hard shots.
41:48He's not getting hit in return.
41:50He's not in trouble.
41:51He's back.
41:52Tommy Hearns is back.
41:55I was able to hear Kinchin as he
41:57came close in on Hearns, and it
41:59was very simple from his mouth.
42:01Come on, Tommy.
42:03He won't have to exhort Tommy on
42:05because he's going to be there.
42:06He has to win these two to win
42:07the fight.
42:09All right, missing by Kinchin.
42:11In spite of the end swell, Tommy's
42:13eyes are swelling up.
42:14They're becoming smaller and
42:16smaller, even though he has not
42:18received anywhere near the
42:19punishment, but he is inflicted on
42:22Kinchin.
42:22You know, we said at the outset
42:23that Kinchin has a great deal of
42:25respect for Hearns, and
42:26understandably so, because he's a
42:27legend coming into this fight.
42:28I think that Hearns has gained a lot
42:31of respect for James Kinchin
42:32tonight.
42:34Well, you know, there's an old
42:35action in boxing.
42:37There are no easy fights until
42:38they're over.
42:39And this is one of those that
42:41proves it.
42:43This is not easy for either man,
42:44but certainly it's a shocker and a
42:46surprise for Tommy Hearns, who
42:48thought he was going to have easy
42:49pickings tonight and almost ended
42:51up being the meal himself.
42:52As we continue along in round
42:5611, Thomas Hearns in quest of an
43:03unprecedented fifth world title.
43:11Past the midway point of the
43:1211th.
43:18Kinchin holding even this round,
43:19but so far he is not punching with
43:22the energy that he had previous,
43:24nor is he overwhelming, Tommy, so
43:27that the only edge he's got is
43:29ring generalship right now and the
43:30fact that he is the aggressor.
43:32And fatigue shedding in on both
43:34fighters.
43:36Less than a minute remaining round
43:3711.
43:38Well, more than fatigue should be
43:40setting in on Kinchin, who has been
43:41pounded by straight right hands,
43:43hooks, and every kind of body shot
43:45that a man can take.
43:47Kinchin slipping in Hearns' corner,
43:50and Hearns was a gentleman.
43:52And did not take advantage of that.
43:53Notice it.
43:56A little wrestling tactic there.
44:02It has been a relatively clean
44:06fight, a couple of low blows, and a
44:08very quiet 11th round.
44:09When you think that the title is on the
44:12line here, and Tommy's reputation is
44:14hanging by a thread, you would think
44:16that he would pick up the action.
44:17I guess he's saving it for the 12th,
44:19and I cannot imagine why Kinchin is not
44:21going after him throwing everything he's
44:23got.
44:24Unless he has run out of gas.
44:26Combination by Hearns for the head.
44:28And a smile from Kinchin.
44:30Oh, there was a right by Hearns,
44:32snapping Kinchin's head back.
44:33As the round comes to an end.
44:40And yet, and yet, it was Tommy who went off
44:44on shaky legs back to his corner.
44:46Something sneaky happened in there.
44:47I didn't see it, but he got all wobbly at the end.
44:50He landed the leaping punch.
44:52There was a flurry, and he went back on
44:54his steady legs.
44:56Hard, hard rounds.
44:57Hard rounds.
44:58This is to judge.
44:59I think, at this point, this last round has
45:02got to be decisive for one man or the
45:04other.
45:04Whoever wins this last round, I think,
45:06wins this fight.
45:07Do you look for a war here in the final
45:08round?
45:08If either man doesn't fight with
45:10everything he's got, then they're crazy.
45:12Whoever fights the hardest deserves the
45:14championship.
45:14Here's where the championship corner is.
45:16This is where the great champions fight,
45:18where the Sugar Ray Leonard's suck it up from
45:20someplace, and where the Muhammad Ali's get
45:22it from someplace.
45:23Let's listen.
45:26Ladies and gentlemen, from any secret in the
45:29house, this is a close one, and this is a
45:31great one.
45:32Let's show them how we feel.
45:37And here we go.
45:38Twelfth and final round.
45:39They'll touch gloves.
45:41Tremendous respect for one another.
45:44They both have a few words, and here we go.
45:50It is so close.
45:51I mean, this round could decide it.
45:54Definitely.
45:54I have it 104 to 104.
45:56Oh, Tommy just got hammered by two shots after landing a great punch on Kinchin.
46:02It just seems like whenever he lands something good, Kinchin comes back with something better.
46:06Right to the face, too.
46:08And the way you can tell what happens is watch the legs of Tommy Hearns and look and see if
46:13he grabs.
46:14If you see him grab the head of Kinchin, it's because he's hurt.
46:17His right eye is closing.
46:20Only the great corner work with the very cold inswell has kept it from closing shut.
46:24That'll be shut by morning.
46:26But now it's...
46:28Oh, a heavy right by Hearns!
46:31And two right...
46:32Oh, another right by Hearns!
46:36And back comes Kinchin with two shots.
46:38This is incredible.
46:40What a fight.
46:40No sooner does it look like it's the end of Kinchin, then he comes back with two shots
46:45of his own.
46:48Tommy Hearns with two blistering rights.
46:50Snapping Kinchin back.
46:52And a right there by Kinchin.
46:55And a combination by Hearns.
46:56Just winging away.
47:05Now Kinchin with Hearns against the ropes.
47:08Goes to the body.
47:09Three, four.
47:11These are all scoring punches.
47:12Four, five, and Tommy leaning on the ropes.
47:16But those zinging, wonderful shots of...
47:20Oh, big miss by Hearns.
47:21That looks bad when he does that.
47:23When he lands those hard shots, those are point builders in the judge's mind.
47:27The fact that Kinchin comes back with two hard body shots of his own.
47:31Don't necessarily neutralize that kind of punch.
47:35It's the kind that gives you a point.
47:36Oh, and Kinchin comes back, though.
47:38Now Kinchin hurts him.
47:39One minute remaining in the fight.
47:43Kinchin hurt him again.
47:46So how do you score that?
47:47He got hit.
47:48But then Kinchin comes back and scores.
47:51Would not want to be a judge.
47:53Nope, this is going to be one,
47:54which is going to be a dispute for a long time.
48:00Tremendous finish
48:01to a most entertaining fight.
48:05A new respect has got to be given to Kinchin.
48:09And he's shown everything...
48:10Oh, he slipped on nothing, actually.
48:15There's nothing there.
48:16His legs are just doing numbers on him.
48:18He has nothing.
48:19His legs have been weak for so long now,
48:22he's going to need a long rest.
48:24Oh, great right hand.
48:26After Hearns lands a beautiful body shot,
48:29back comes Kinchin with a right-hand retaliatory punch.
48:33Heading for the bell.
48:35And it's all over.
48:39Tommy Hearns and James Kinchin embrace.
48:43Just a tremendous fight.
48:45Look at this scene.
48:46Wes Rombald embraces both Hearns and Kinchin.
48:50What a display.
48:52I would not argue either way,
48:55but quite unofficially
48:56and with absolutely no prejudice,
48:59I feel Kinchin won the fight.
49:01And I just...
49:02I would not argue if someone said,
49:05no, Tommy did.
49:05Because it was that close.
49:07But the ebb and flow of this fight
49:10showed that Kinchin could come back against anything
49:13and inflict damage on Tommy.
49:15Look at the face of Tommy.
49:16That is not the same face we saw
49:18five months ago
49:20when he got knocked out
49:21right here on Showtime
49:23by Iran Barkley.
49:26The ends well applied by Ralph Sipto.
49:28That was a little late now.
49:29He can forget about that
49:30because that eye is going to close
49:32no matter what they do.
49:33Put an ice bag on it.
49:34Do whatever they will.
49:35But the fact that the overall feeling of a fight,
49:38Steve, is when a man comes in,
49:40knocks the other guy down,
49:41and he's on the verge of knocking him out,
49:43and every round is razor sharp
49:45and everything is close,
49:46then you've got to give it to the guy
49:48who is carrying the fight.
49:50He's winking.
49:50Who is threatening.
49:52He's winking his left eye
49:53because that's all he's got left to win.
49:55Here we go.
49:55Ladies and gentlemen,
49:56here's the official scoring.
49:58Larry Rosadia has the belt.
50:00114 to 114.
50:03Bill Graham scores it.
50:05115 to 112.
50:06Cindy Barton has it.
50:08114 to 112 for the winner,
50:11who is now the WBO super middleweight champion of the world,
50:16the hitman,
50:17Paul McCoy!
50:18He has won an unprecedented fifth world title,
50:25and you hear the mixed reaction
50:27and a lot of booing from the crowd.
50:28I don't think he won it as much as they gave it to him.
50:31I don't think he won it as much as they gave it to him,
50:35and what we said before,
50:36his name,
50:37his legend,
50:38his popularity,
50:39got this fight for him,
50:41but I feel sorry for Kinchin.
50:43I thought Kinchin won.
50:45I can't argue with the decision one way or another.
50:47It was that close.
50:48The overall feeling is
50:50Kinchin from out of nowhere,
50:52severely tested,
50:53almost knocked out
50:54the great Tommy Hearns
50:56and deserved to win the bout.
50:57Tommy Hearns
50:58surviving a fourth-round knockdown
51:01to win this decision
51:02over James the Heat Kinchin.
51:04He is the new NABF super middleweight champion.
