The London Question: How do young people feel about renting?
Transcript
00:00Renting is overpriced. There's nothing that can be done. We're doomed in the UK.
00:03We are being, like, left to the wolves to, like, fend for ourselves.
00:07It's ridiculous and it's way too expensive.
00:09Rogue landlords, rampant mould, rising bills and extortionate rent.
00:14The capital's rental crisis is at its peak and it isn't showing many signs of letting up.
00:19Bearing the brunt most are young Londoners.
00:22I don't think a lot of people from up north could afford to live down here.
00:25I'm from Canada. It's a bit more doggy-doggier, I find. It's not fun, I'll put it that way.
00:29Policymakers, the people in parliament, the government do not care about just, like, the average person.
00:36The biggest thing that we have in Canada that we don't have here is protections on how much rent can be increased per month.
00:42There needs to be rent controls in terms of how much it can be increased when you're on the same contract.
00:46Things are getting worse. Things are getting harder. Everything is more expensive.
00:51There's just nothing to, like, protect people.
00:53I'm quite fortunate. I quite like my landlord. In that case, we're quite good.
00:56Do you have any, like, nightmare landlord anecdotes?
00:58Let's not get into that.
00:59Let's not get into that.
