00:00Six people were killed as a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River between lower Manhattan and the New Jersey waterfront.

00:10Officials say the aircraft, a helicopter from the company New York Helicopters, lost control as it was conducting a regular tour of the city.

00:18The crash killed a family of five Spanish tourists, including three children, in addition to the pilot.

00:24Three adults and three children were on board a Bell 206 helicopter that had left from the downtown Skyport just about 3 p.m.

00:38The pilot and the family visited from Spain with our preliminary information as at this time.

00:47Officials say the helicopter began breaking apart midair before crashing at around 3 p.m. local time.

00:54Eyewitnesses say loud bangs could be heard as the chopper plunged into the river.

00:58I just saw the plane started falling apart in midair and then the tail came off and then just flipped over in midair and started falling into the ground.

01:09The propeller still propelling without the plane helicopter as it was falling.

01:13And I got video of it flipping into the water.

01:16The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board say they'll conduct thorough investigations into the crash.

01:25The accident is the latest high-profile aviation disaster in the United States.
