00:00A couple was arrested today to help in a police investigation into the alleged abuse at a

00:07children's home in Bakunai Chiras. The pair, who are the home's owners and caretakers,

00:13were arrested at 3.20 p.m., reported Utusan, Malaysia.

00:17Kajang Police Chief Nazron Abdul Yusuf said the husband and wife, aged 66 and 68 respectively,

00:24were arrested after a report was lodged on April 1. He said the report was lodged by

00:29an 18-year-old who said he had been scolded and slapped on his left cheek.

00:35Nazron said the teenager claimed he had been scolded for not listening to the shelter's

00:39owners and caretakers. He said two other police reports were lodged by other witnesses over the

00:44couple's behavior as they had allegedly abused the children emotionally and mentally before this.

00:50Nazron said the two suspects will be remanded tomorrow. He said the case is being investigated

00:56under Section 31 sub 1A of the Child Act 2001 for child abuse, which is punishable by a fine

01:03not exceeding 50,000 ringgit or up to 20 years imprisonment, or both.
