US President Trump has announced plans to levy hefty tariffs, possibly 20–26%, on pharmaceutical imports. The move could disrupt global pharma trade and severely impact India, which exports around $12.72 billion worth of medicines to the U.S. annually. The decision poses serious concerns for India’s pharma sector.

00:00:00The big international story coming in this morning, President Trump has announced imposing of massive tariffs coming very shortly on pharmaceuticals.
00:00:11This is big news coming in. I quote him here first. We are going to have to tariff our pharmaceuticals.
00:00:19We are going to be announcing very shortly a major tariff on pharmaceuticals.
00:00:23Remember when it comes to the medical fraternity, there's a massive trade that happens across countries.
00:00:30In the USA in itself, while of course the medical care has been appreciated, however, the pharmaceutical industry is with regard to other countries as well.
00:00:40Where items, equipments, medicines, all of that do come as these medical care items from other nations too.
00:00:47So what happens and of course then there is export from the USA too.
00:00:52The USA also exports a lot of items.
00:00:54So it's going to be very complicated and perhaps very crucial.
00:00:58Remember now we are talking about, in many ways, about people who may be in dire need of pharmaceuticals.
00:01:04Karishma Asudani, a correspondent with Business Today is joining me now.
00:01:07Karishma, good morning. Tell me more about this.
00:01:09What does Donald Trump mean when he says that there will be a high tariff on pharmaceuticals now?
00:01:15Well, Pooja, if you remember, the day the reciprocal tariffs were rolled out, there were a couple of sectors that were exempted.
00:01:26Pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, minerals, all these sectors were not mentioned and they were under section 231 of the reciprocal tariffs announced,
00:01:40which means that the U.S. was not considering to put any kind of tariffs on it.
00:01:46But now, owing to the fact that a lot of countries export, that U.S. is dependent majorly on a lot of pharma imports,
00:01:59any kind of taxation on pharmaceutical imports can cause a major impact on India because we are one of the largest suppliers of medicines to the U.S.
00:02:14and our exports, you know, closely are about valued at close to $12.72 billion.
00:02:22Currently, we were in a more comfortable position because we were away from the fact that there were tariffs coming in on pharmaceuticals or semiconductors.
00:02:31But pharma is our strength and if a similar close to 20 to 26% comes in, it's not going to be good for our industry.
00:02:39Karishma, stay on with me because remember, pharmaceuticals is also crucial, in fact, very crucial when it comes to India as well.
00:02:47Whether it's in import items or India's export to the U.S.A., there are a massive number of pharmaceutical items that are sent to the U.S.A.
00:02:56and if that's a high tariff, what does that mean for our pharma industry?
00:03:09The big international headline this morning is about Donald Trump and China.
00:03:13This is a full-on showdown now between the United States of America and the Chinese government.
00:03:19America has raised the tariff on China to a whopping 104%.
00:03:25This is in total a combined tariff.
00:03:28U.S.A. saves.
00:03:30We punch back harder at China.
00:03:33China's retaliation has been a mistake.
00:03:36Remember, when first the announcement was made of about 34% to China, China said we'll have a retaliatory tariff that would be higher.
00:03:45Donald Trump said I'll put a higher retaliatory tariff of about 50%.
00:03:49Now, in total, when we calculate with regard to China, in addition, remember, there's also a tax with regard to the fentanyl flow into the United States of America.
00:03:59That's about 20%.
00:04:00That's been a previous tax and then comes in 34%, then a 50%.
00:04:04It amounts in total to about 104%.
00:04:08This likely is the highest because unlike other nations, including India, that's taken a more negotiation route, a back-and-forth discussion, China has taken a full confrontational route.
00:04:19Let's listen in to the reactions that have come in from the White House.
00:04:22I just spoke to the president about this, and he believes that China wants to make a deal with the United States.
00:04:28He believes China has to make a deal with the United States.
00:04:31It was a mistake for China to retaliate.
00:04:33The president, when America is punched, he punches back harder.
00:04:37That's why there will be 104% tariffs going into effect on China tonight at midnight.
00:04:43But the president believes that Xi and China want to make a deal.
00:04:47They just don't know how to get that started.
00:04:48And the president also wanted me to tell all of you that if China reaches out to make a deal, he'll be incredibly gracious.
00:04:54But he's going to do what's best for the American people.
00:04:56This is bigger than any deal.
00:04:58You guys, some of you work for companies.
00:05:00Your companies are peanuts.
00:05:01I don't care how big they are compared.
00:05:03This is the largest transaction in the history of our country.
00:05:06And don't let some of these politicians go around and say, you know, because I'm telling you, these countries are calling us up, kissing my a*****.
00:05:15They are dying to make a deal.
00:05:18Please, please, sir, make a deal.
00:05:19I'll do anything.
00:05:20I'll do anything, sir.
00:05:22And then I'll see some rebel Republican, you know, some guy that wants to grandstand, say, I think that Congress should take over negotiations.
00:05:31Let me tell you, you don't negotiate like I negotiate.
00:05:33Congress takes over negotiating, sell America fast because you're going to go bust it.
00:05:41The shrill voices that you're hearing this week about tariffs are the same s*****s and frauds who never thought twice about when the United States lost 90,000 factories and plants.
00:05:53Think of that 90,000.
00:05:56How do you do 90?
00:05:57If you had a map, a big map the size of that wall and you had a pin for each factory, you wouldn't have enough room.
00:06:03You think of it, 90,000 factories since NAFTA.
00:06:07I'm proud to be the president for the workers, not the outsourcers.
00:06:11The president who stands up for Main Street, not Wall Street, who protects the middle class, not the political class, and who defends America, not trade cheaters all over the globe.
00:06:22They're trade cheaters.
00:06:23They cheated on us.
00:06:25They cheated with tariffs on us.
00:06:27They stole our money.
00:06:29They stole our jobs.
00:06:30My job is not to maximize the profits of outsourcers and foreign car.
00:06:35I mean, these foreign corporations are horrible.
00:06:38It's horrible what they're doing, but we're catching them.
00:06:41We're catching them by the dozens.
00:06:43My job is to defend the—I have to defend the American dream, and I have to defend the American citizens.
00:06:50That's my job.
00:06:51I have to defend that.
00:06:52The American dream is never mentioned.
00:06:54It was mentioned for four years, and now it's being mentioned again.
00:06:58But it was never mentioned when we had Sleepy Joe in office.
00:07:01Karishma Asudani from Business Today continues to be with us.
00:07:05Karishma, tell me about this.
00:07:07Unlike other nations, this has turned into a full-on showdown back and forth.
00:07:12What are you making of this?
00:07:14And would we be correct to say that this is clearly the highest that is imposed on any nation right now?
00:07:18Karishma Asudani
00:07:19Absolutely. It's a clear situation of trade war, very much on the expected lines.
00:07:25U.S. and China being two strong economies on loggerheads is something that is a major concern
00:07:34because most of the other surrounding economies are dependent on a trade chain, which is followed by how U.S. and China lead it.
00:07:44The fact that China has said they will not budge on any kind of retaliatory taxation coming in from the U.S.
00:07:54and they will also upscale their decisions.
00:07:58And the fact that U.S. has said the same thing, that they will need a budge, is a concern
00:08:04because it really will impact the supply chains and how the global trade movement is affected.
00:08:12Also, South Korea and Japan sharing, you know, taking a step forward in solving this, meeting the U.S. counterparts
00:08:21and China not doing it could be a game changer because it could give some kind of benefit
00:08:29and a first-mover advantage to other countries surrounding China, which is India, Asia-Pacific, Vietnam, Thailand, India,
00:08:38especially India, Taiwan, which are willing to make some changes on their tariff policies.
00:08:45The reminder for other countries watching right now that if they go the retaliatory way or a threatening way like China has,
00:08:52Donald Trump is planning to do what he has done, which is have a higher tariff.
00:08:56So, he's not really budging at all.
00:08:59So, whether other countries will choose a more reconcilatory tone.
00:09:03And remember, Karishma made an important point.
00:09:05USA and China fighting over this is very important because these are the top two economies of the world right now.
00:09:12And they are currently in a showdown.
00:09:14And that is why it's such a big story.
00:09:1634% retaliatory tariff by China.
00:09:19USA then announces in total 104% tariff imposition on Chinese goods.
00:09:23That would be imported.
00:09:24New tariff on Beijing will come into effect from the 9th of April.
00:09:28So, it's already going to happen in the next few hours.
00:09:31The White House claims China is seeking a trade deal with the USA
00:09:34and he will have to reduce tariffs on America first to begin the talks for a trade pact.
00:09:39White House is adding that Trump has a spine of steel.
00:09:43Whenever China punches him, he punches back harder.
00:09:46China, remember, firmly opposed American tariffs,
00:09:49vowed to announce countermeasures, which they did.
00:09:52And then China has gone, USA has gone ahead to impose a higher tariff.
00:09:57China is deserting that they will safeguard their interests
00:10:00and they will not be intimidated by this blackmail or bullying by America.
00:10:04The president's message has been simple and consistent from the beginning.
00:10:10To countries around the world, bring us your best offers and he will listen.
00:10:15Deals will only be made if they benefit American workers
00:10:18and address our nation's crippling trade deficits.
00:10:22America does not need other countries as much as other countries need us.
00:10:26And President Trump knows this.
00:10:27He's going to use the leverage of our markets and our country
00:10:30to the advantage of the people he was sworn in to represent.
00:10:34In total, since the Liberation Day announcement,
00:10:37nearly 70 countries have already reached out to the president to begin a negotiation.
00:10:42Countries are falling over themselves to reform their unfair trade practices
00:10:46and free open their markets to our country.
00:10:49Why?
00:10:50Because these countries greatly respect President Trump
00:10:52in the sheer power of the American market.
00:10:57But it looks like internally as well,
00:11:04there are a lot of controversies brewing in the Trump administration.
00:11:06In the latest, Elon Musk, one of the closest states right now,
00:11:09he's in the administration of Donald Trump.
00:11:11But he has called President Trump's trade advisor, Peter Navarro,
00:11:16a moron over comments he made about his electric vehicle firm.
00:11:22Unbothered, White House says, we will let the public spat continue.
00:11:25White House, when it was asked on Musk versus Trump's trade advisor, Peter Navarro,
00:11:30it appears the White House has said,
00:11:33boys will be boys and we will let the public spat continue.
00:11:37Basically, just to give you a background,
00:11:38Peter Navarro in an interview said,
00:11:40Musk is not a car manufacturer.
00:11:42He's a car assembler in many cases.
00:11:45To which Musk said,
00:11:47more wrong.
00:11:51These are obviously two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs.
00:11:57Boys will be boys and we will let their public sparring continue.
00:12:01These are obviously two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs.
00:12:07Boys will be boys and we will let their public sparring continue.
00:12:11All right, now let's focus on domestic news.
00:12:15And the big focus is coming first from Bengal.
00:12:17Politics has escalated.
00:12:18Mass sacking, remember, has started of the teachers.
00:12:22Trinamool Congress is set to hold a protest in Kolkata over the firing of,
00:12:26and I'm talking about 25,000 teachers.
00:12:29Now, this comes after a court ruling, remember,
00:12:31that said the whole selection process in itself has been tainted
00:12:35in manner in which the teaching and non-teaching staff were hired.
00:12:38Trinamool Congress, however, says teachers have lost their job
00:12:41because of a conspiracy by BJP and CPM.
00:12:45After the protest, TMC will also organize possibly other protests across wards and districts.
00:12:50Union Minister Sukanto Majumdar slammed TMC,
00:12:52accusing it of corruption, of destroying evidence,
00:12:55like some of the sheets, to conceal the crime.
00:12:57LOP Rahul Gandhi has written to President Murmo
00:12:59seeking her intervention over the mass firing.
00:13:02He's written that untainted teachers have also been fired.
00:13:05Perpetrators must be brought to justice.
00:13:07There must be, perhaps, another look at what exactly happened with the teachers here.
00:13:13Staying with Bengal, but another part of it, which is Murshidabad.
00:13:17That is where an anti-Vakf Bill protest turned fully violent.
00:13:21Look at the visuals on your screen.
00:13:23Tensions flared.
00:13:24Protesters were demonstrating against the Vakf Bill,
00:13:27which is now set to become a law.
00:13:29A clash broke out between the protesters and the police.
00:13:32And this is in Bengal.
00:13:33The clash began when cops tried to remove the roadblock.
00:13:36Agitated protesters started to pelt stones at the cops.
00:13:39Even burnt down police vehicles.
00:13:41In turn, police fired tear gas.
00:13:43And there was some lati charge use as well.
00:13:46Protesters were raising anti-constitution slogans.
00:13:49They were seen saying that they do not accept the constitution.
00:13:52Now, this has led to an attack by the BJP on the Mamata government.
00:13:56The government also claiming BJP.
00:13:59And BJP has jumped in to say that, I correct myself here.
00:14:02The BJP has jumped in to say that Mamata is unable to control the mobs like this in Bengal for a deliberate reason.
00:14:10They are asking for Mamata's resignation.
00:14:11So, it's a full-on war between BJP and Mamata Banerjee's party.
00:14:16But look at the visuals on his screen.
00:14:17The
00:14:35Hindus might have attacked by further.
00:14:39So, the government has been in the same direction
00:14:44and the government has been in the same direction.
00:14:47They have been in direct help with these things.
00:14:50And this will be done for the 26,000 people,
00:14:54the corruption cases,
00:14:56these people will be concerned about the development of the people.
00:15:01foreign
00:15:31All eyes, meanwhile, will be in Ahmedabad right now
00:15:49because there's a key Congress meeting happening,
00:15:51back-to-back losses in Assembly polls.
00:15:53Congress leaders want to go back to the drawing board.
00:15:55They want to now chalk out parties' roadmap
00:15:58for especially Assembly elections this year
00:16:01where they can possibly hope,
00:16:02for example, in states like Bihar.
00:16:04Sources are informing India today.
00:16:06Rahul Gandhi said during the meeting
00:16:08that while Congress were busy doing Dalit, Muslim, Brahmin,
00:16:11OBC community left the party.
00:16:13He's added that party keeps on talking about Muslims being minority
00:16:16due to which they had to face criticism as well.
00:16:19The BJP mocked Rahul Gandhi claiming
00:16:21that BJP always benefits whenever Rahul Gandhi speaks
00:16:24and his campaigns in Bihar will help the NDA.
00:16:28Meanwhile, Congress Vainad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vajra
00:16:32was not present at the CWC meeting.
00:16:35The General Secretary said she's taken permission
00:16:37from Malikar Arjun Khadgei had some prior engagements.
00:16:39They will also talk about two parties.
00:16:46Some of the parties have been elected
00:16:47at the very least before the parties have participated.
00:16:50And the other parties have been elected
00:16:51as the piece ofIT inObama and the other people
00:16:53who were elected on the collega
00:16:54and the another part of the President
00:16:55that began to focus is in.
00:16:56The people on the right side of the Republic
00:16:57and the authorities have come and went to that position.
00:16:58They have been elected
00:16:59and the people on the right side of it
00:17:00and they will take advantage of that party.
00:17:02And the people on the left side of it
00:17:03is a political policy.
00:17:04They will also have an interest of the people
00:17:06and the people on the left side of it
00:17:06This is an interesting place, and this is the place where the government and the government
00:17:17of Ghandi is a part of the Congress party.
00:17:23Today, the Congress committee of the last year is going on the meeting of Congress.
00:17:31And you will be an resolution we will be giving us a part of this episode.
00:17:40We do not convey the resolution of the President of the United States with the Prime Minister.
00:17:48The President of the United States and the United States with the President of the United States,
00:18:00Meanwhile, a mega-political slugfest has broken out after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said
00:18:11the Constitution has been thousands of years old.
00:18:14BJP immediately jumped on this, slamming the Member of Parliament,
00:18:17who is also the Leader of Opposition,
00:18:19saying that he is always leaving the country shocked and speechless with abundance of knowledge.
00:18:25Safran Party has gone all guns blazing over this comment,
00:18:27alleging that Rahul Gandhi is not a serious politician.
00:18:30They are accusing Congress of murdering democracy, statements like this,
00:18:34they say is a disgraceful dismissal of Baba Sahib, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's legacy,
00:18:38who is in many ways called the father of the Constitution.
00:18:40While speaking in Patna, Rahul Gandhi had stated that people tell him
00:18:43that the Constitution was written in 1947, but it's been there for thousands of years,
00:18:48it's thousands of years old.
00:18:50He lashed out at BJP-led government at the Centre for undermining constitutional values of the country.
00:18:55Mr. Rahul Gandhi has now got addicted to making a joke of himself on daily basis.
00:19:05Mr. Rahul Gandhi's own autobiography or biography will be called Failure to Launch.
00:19:12Under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, Congress has lost more than 55 elections,
00:19:17more than 400 Congress leaders have left in the Congress,
00:19:20but still Rahul Gandhi refuses to get launched.
00:19:23I think the book Failure to Launch by Rahul Gandhi will be circulated on public schools
00:19:31and university to teach kids how to accept responsibility and how not to be like Rahul Gandhi.
00:19:38I'm forgetting that some of their parties have been incorporated in the party.
00:19:44They have also been incorporated.
00:19:46They are the responsibility of the people who can take advantage of the government.
00:19:50So don't do any challenge in the parliament.
00:19:54You must not take advantage of the government.
00:19:58ki, parpajan shayatra kar rhae hai.
00:20:01Palaen ka political program
00:20:02karne me laghe hoye. Array, you
00:20:04a, palaen ka political program karne se
00:20:06bhetar ho ga ki aap ki party mein joh
00:20:07palaen ki pterthiisverdha chal lage hai.
00:20:10Us ko, joh hai, wo
00:20:11aap control kar یہ.
00:20:13Annetha, joh hai,
00:20:14wo aapki, abhi bhi ác joh, zemeen
00:20:16to aapki banjar hai, legen apke anadar
00:20:18áaj bhi, joh hai, wo ahengkara
00:20:19or arara jakta ka khanja r aapke haat ho mein hai.
00:20:23Or aap, joh hai,
00:20:23dharm ki bat,
00:20:26dharm ou raja net ko alag karne ki baat
00:20:27The Congress Party has killed the Constitution, killed democracy in this country by amending
00:20:40several times, by imposing emergency, by dismissing the government and these people speak about
00:20:46the Constitution. If Rahul Gandhi Ji writes a book on the lines of Mahatma Gandhi Ji's book
00:20:54my experiment with truth, then he must be naming it my experiment as a clone in Indian politics.
00:21:02I think that should be the name he should be given. Such type of cheap criticism, cheap
00:21:07politics, I think Congress leaders should advise him to train him on how to speak and
00:21:12what to speak in such meetings.
00:21:15I don't even know whether Mr. Rahul Gandhi is a serious politician at all. Some people
00:21:23achieve positions only by their surname. And under his leadership, I can only see the decline
00:21:32of the Congress Party. It is truly a matter of deep concern that the principal opposition
00:21:42has at its leadership, has at its chief, a non-serious politician.
00:21:49Big news coming in this morning. 2611 mastermind Taha Virana is slated to be extradited to
00:22:02India shortly. After, remember, his plea for a stay was rejected by the top court in the
00:22:08United States of America, so to say. A multi-agency team from India is en route to the USA, possibly
00:22:14already there on the American soil right now. Paperwork and legalities have been completed
00:22:21with American authorities. In the next few days, expect this man on your screens to be brought
00:22:28back to India, even though he tried his best to avoid to facing the law, something that he
00:22:34possibly thought he's going to be getting away. But India's relentless effort to bring back Taha
00:22:41Vuru Sen Rana. The man you're looking at on your screen is the co-conspirator who supported
00:22:48and ensured that massacre of over a hundred people, innocent people in Mumbai took place.
00:22:54A Pakistani-origin man, and you must know a medical professional by employment, by profession,
00:23:01but of course now we also know a radicalized terrorist too. Joining us, our managing editor
00:23:06India today, Gaurav Sawant, and also our editor India today, Munish Pandey is joining me.
00:23:13First to you, Gaurav, what does this moment mean to you? Because in many ways so far, Ajumal Kassab,
00:23:19the sole LET terrorist who was caught alive, had been brought to the book. But when we talk about Taha Vuru Sen Rana,
00:23:27Taha Vuru Sen Rana, how significant do you think his role has been?
00:23:31It's a very, very significant step. I had covered Taha Vuru Sen Rana in David Coleman Headley's trial in the Chicago Federal Court
00:23:39when they were arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI had detailed investigation on their role,
00:23:46not just in the Mumbai terror attacks in 2611, but also in the Copenhagen terror attack,
00:23:52where they planned to target a Danish newspaper for, you know, a picture of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
00:24:01And these were Nashkar-e-Taiba terrorists and sleeper cells. Taha Vuru Sen Rana is a disgraced captain of the Pakistan Army.
00:24:08He served in Sri Aachen. He left Pakistan Army in his graves. He opened a company in Canada and was a Lashkar-e-Taiba sleeper cell.
00:24:17He had reportedly, according to FBI, he rejoiced at the 2611 Mumbai terror attacks.
00:24:23He had said that every Pakistani terrorist who was involved should get Pakistan's highest military award.
00:24:31And he had carried out reconnaissance mission. He had first world immigration was the company. He had floated.
00:24:38He had traveled to Mumbai State at the Renaissance in the Ramada Hotel.
00:24:42And he carried out reconnaissance, including with GPS devices, not just of the sites that had been attacked,
00:24:47but also multiple other sites. In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government,
00:24:52they have given a detailed letter to the United States of America that why this man is very important,
00:24:59he needs to make sedated, not just because of 2611, but also future attacks that could take place in India
00:25:05because these people had carried out reconnaissance of multiple other locations.
00:25:09That is why he is being brought back to India anytime now is a huge step in India's war on Pakistan state-sponsored radical Islamist terror, Pooja.
00:25:17Also to remember that at this point, how India's efforts consistently to work with American authorities led to this.
00:25:25Gaurav, I requested to stay on with me. Also joining me, Munish Pandey on this.
00:25:29Munish, I'm sure the Delhi-Mumbai jails are being readied and arrangements are being made for his grand arrival, so to say.
00:25:37Tell me about the procedure. What is the protocol like?
00:25:39When can we expect Tahavur Hussain Rana to now be brought back and to ensure he faces the law here?
00:25:47Well Pooja, as we speak, there are officials from multiple agencies in the US and they are completing the formalities to take handover of Tahavur Rana from the US prison authorities.
00:26:01Now at this point of time, we have been given to understand that once the legalities are complete, then Tahavur Hussain Rana will be given in the custody of Indian authorities, Indian officials who are in the US.
00:26:14And then he will be taken to India and there is a high possibility that in the next 48 hours Tahavur Rana will land in India and then NIA will take custody and he will be produced before the court like any other accused in the case.
00:26:32But why this Tahavur Rana is extremely significant as far as the entire case is concerned? Because remember, most of the accused in this case have been tried by the Indian authorities, by the National Investigative Agency.
00:26:47But as far as Tahavur Rana is concerned, his role came during the investigation. He is the key person as far as the entire investigation is concerned.
00:26:54He is someone who is known how David Coleman Headley, the person who is still in US jail, he wrecked the places where the attack took place and he was always in contact with the other terrorists.
00:27:08So he will be extremely important, not only for the case, but also the India's investigation that how Pakistan was involved, how Pakistani army was involved, how Pakistani authorities are involved.
00:27:21And that is why this will not only send a broader message to the other countries also that Pakistan is involved in such activities, but also it will be very significant as far as 180 lives which were lost in 2611 attacks because their families are still waiting for justice and now the time has come when he will be brought to India.
00:27:46And the viewer must remember, Tahavur Rana may not have fired the shots, but he enabled these Pakistan-sponsored jihadi terrorists to be able to have, whether it was a passport for David Coleman Headley or the arrangements, the recce, all of this.
00:28:00In many ways, he was the one who did the pre-planning before Ajmal Kassab and the group decided to come and massacre not just our people, but different nationalities and ethnicities.
00:28:09My friends, I request you to please stay on. Also joining me, Lieutenant General Sanjay Kulkarni on the phone line right now.
00:28:15We also call him the Siyachan hero.
00:28:17Lieutenant General Kulkarni, you tell me, what does this moment mean?
00:28:20Do you think this is India also ensuring that the anti-India terrorists are brought to the book and they don't get away by any excuse?
00:28:28Definitely, Pooja. I think this is now almost confirming that Pakistan has been using terrorism as an instrument of state policy.
00:28:38There is no denying the fact, had it not been for Headley telling us what exactly this ex-army officer Rana has been doing all along,
00:28:46and one man who was actually responsible.
00:28:49These are the brains, the think tanks who were there in India, wrecking the place, ensuring how it is to be done, communicating with each other.
00:28:57And then, of course, Kassab is the man who really and his team executed, killing over 180 people in Mumbai.
00:29:04So this is something that we need to do.
00:29:06And look at the kind of plea that he was taking, that if he is sent to India, he'll be tortured.
00:29:11These are the characters who need to be even sent long back.
00:29:13The very fact that, of course, I'm glad justice prevailed, people realized that this is the man who was the brain.
00:29:20And an ex-army officer, supported by Pakistan, Hadley's friend, they're all classmates, and this is what they do in Mumbai.
00:29:27What does that show?
00:29:28That Pakistan is deeply involved and that Pakistan gets exposed.
00:29:32And once Rana comes over here, we will know a lot of what and how they've been planning about and how they've been doing about,
00:29:38how people migrate from Pakistan to Canada to America and do all these kind of nonsense.
00:29:44And then in touch, execute such a huge action in which we lost about 180 or 34 odd foreigners.
00:29:51And I think it is a great success.
00:29:54And he must be brought back.
00:29:55Hopefully, he'll be brought back in maybe about the next 24 or 48 hours.
00:29:59And thereafter, we'll get to know as much as we want to know from Kassab.
00:30:03I feel that it should be a fast trial because there was a slight criticism with Ajmal Kassab.
00:30:08Why are we keeping him in our jails, feeding him biryani?
00:30:11So, with regard to Tahavud Rana, it should be a fast, clear, conclusive trial.
00:30:15Yes, absolutely.
00:30:16Absolutely.
00:30:17Even with Kassab, irrespective, we may have spent time, but we exposed Pakistan to the deep involvement in these kind of things that have happened.
00:30:25And therefore, it's very essential.
00:30:27This chap was an ex-army officer, a doctor, and Hadley was his classmate in school and college.
00:30:32And therefore, it's very, very important that he is in India and he should be tried out and exposed the deep involvement of Pakistan
00:30:40and how they go about doing things in India.
00:30:42Thank you so much, Lieutenant General Sanjay Kulkarni, who has experienced, remember, has been a former DG Infantry,
00:30:47understands what Pakistan has been doing to India, not just with regard to terrorists, so to say, at the border in JNK,
00:30:55but, of course, when it comes to including the Mumbai terror attack.
00:30:59Gaurav Savant and Munish Pandey continue to be with us.
00:31:02Gaurav, I want to bring you in here because you reported 26-11,
00:31:04and then you've reported how the whole case and the progress has been over this.
00:31:10With this man, Tahavur Rana, do you think it's also about a global approach,
00:31:15like LG Kulkarni was saying, to find shelter in Canada,
00:31:18to be able to reach out to USA and say that they'll torture me, don't send me,
00:31:22but USA standing by India.
00:31:25This also reflects India's position today.
00:31:27You're absolutely right.
00:31:30Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government had very emphatically taken this over with the United States of America
00:31:36from 2019 onwards.
00:31:38So, you know, whether it was the first Trump administration through the Biden administration,
00:31:43and now once again with President Donald Trump,
00:31:46you'd recall when Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the United States of America,
00:31:50he had mentioned this specifically,
00:31:53and Donald Trump went on record to say that Tahavur Rana is a very bad man,
00:31:58he's an evil, evil terrorist, and he'll be handed over to India.
00:32:02So, that indicates with what seriousness India pursued this.
00:32:06Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government,
00:32:09they have pursued, you know, India's war on terror relentlessly.
00:32:12You've seen, while initially, you know, he engaged with Pakistan,
00:32:17permitted, engaged with the then-Pakistani Prime Minister,
00:32:20Nawaz Sharif invited him to India for his swearing-in,
00:32:24dropped in unannounced at Lahore.
00:32:26But when Pachankot happened, followed by Uri and Pulwama,
00:32:29that's when surgical strikes and balakot airstrikes have taken place,
00:32:33which sent out a very clear message.
00:32:35You'll even send fighter jets into enemy territory
00:32:38to bomb the furthermost part of Pakistan
00:32:41to punish terrorism.
00:32:42And if you'd notice, every year, every other year,
00:32:46there would be terror attacks in our country,
00:32:48whether it would be in Delhi or Mumbai,
00:32:50Zaveri Bazaar, 2611, German Bakery,
00:32:54you know, IISC Bangalore,
00:32:57Jaipur Blast, Ahmedabad Blast.
00:32:59Every other year, there'd be a terror attack,
00:33:01post balakot, except for JNK.
00:33:03Thank God, there hasn't been a single terror attack
00:33:06beyond JNK in our country since 2019.
00:33:09Plus, you have to punish terrorists.
00:33:12So whoever is a namaloom, a fraud,
00:33:14or the unknown gunmen who are killing terrorists in Pakistan
00:33:17or those who've supported terrorism,
00:33:19to bringing people like Tahavur Hussain Rana to justice,
00:33:22there's a long road to keeping your country
00:33:26and your countrymen safe.
00:33:27That's a policy that India follows
00:33:28because do keep in mind,
00:33:302005 onwards, David Coleman Hetley and Tahavur Hussain Rana
00:33:33were aware of the 2611-like terror attack plot.
00:33:37In 2005, there were fellow cadets
00:33:40in Hassan Abdal Military Academy.
00:33:42He was always in touch with a certain major Iqbal in Pakistan.
00:33:46So who is this major Iqbal?
00:33:48You see, nobody has been punished in Pakistan,
00:33:50not Hafiz Saeed, not ISI, not the state actors
00:33:54for 2611-Mumbai terror attacks.
00:33:56It's only those 10 terrorists who came
00:33:57and they are the lowest rung of the terror ladder.
00:34:01So only the branches and leaves of the territory
00:34:06have been pruned.
00:34:08India is now trying to go after the roots of terror
00:34:10in Pakistan.
00:34:12Just remember that this must have taken
00:34:14a lot of negotiations,
00:34:15a lot of back-and-forth talks from India
00:34:18and with regard to USA,
00:34:19at least unlike Canada.
00:34:21Remember, USA has taken cognizance of it.
00:34:23Gaurav, before I go across to Munish,
00:34:25I do have one more question,
00:34:26just for the benefit of our viewer.
00:34:27Watching right now,
00:34:28especially let's say the younger audience,
00:34:29the role of Tahawar Hussain Rana,
00:34:33many would say he didn't fire the shots.
00:34:35You tell us and remind us
00:34:37why Tahawar Hussain Rana's role
00:34:39in many ways is much worse
00:34:41in the manner in which 2611 massacre,
00:34:44I keep calling it,
00:34:45was orchestrated.
00:34:48Pooja, you're absolutely right.
00:34:492611 was a massacre
00:34:50which all of us had reported
00:34:52from ground zero in Mumbai.
00:34:55It is evil.
00:34:56Tahawar Hussain Rana,
00:34:57you see, it's not just a terrorist like Kassab
00:34:59who pulls the trigger.
00:35:01The man who plots a terror attack
00:35:03is equally guilty.
00:35:04And these are radical Islamist terrorists.
00:35:06Tahawar Hussain Rana
00:35:07and David Coleman Headley
00:35:08sitting in Canada
00:35:09in the United States of America
00:35:11were plotting every move.
00:35:13They were the chief planners
00:35:15and executors of those plans.
00:35:18You see, Tahawar Hussain Rana
00:35:19had a Canadian passport.
00:35:21David Coleman Headley
00:35:22had an American passport.
00:35:23They were rich people
00:35:24living in big, big houses,
00:35:26big bungalows in Chicago
00:35:28in the United States of America.
00:35:31They used to come to India repeatedly,
00:35:33stay in luxury five-star hotels.
00:35:36They would go to the Taj Hotel,
00:35:38the CST,
00:35:39various other points,
00:35:41Marine Drive,
00:35:42Ville Parle.
00:35:44They've carried out reconnaissance
00:35:45not just in Mumbai
00:35:46but also in Pune outside
00:35:47National Defense Academy,
00:35:49in Delhi outside
00:35:50National Defense College
00:35:51to target, you know,
00:35:53vital assets and vital points in India.
00:35:55All, and then, you know,
00:35:57including with GPS systems
00:35:58in their hand,
00:35:59then they would go back
00:36:00and pass on all that information
00:36:02to Pakistan's ISI
00:36:03and to Hafiz Mohammed's side.
00:36:05David Coleman Headley
00:36:06repeatedly travelled to Pakistan.
00:36:08He's met Ilyas Kashmiri.
00:36:10He's met Hafiz Saeed.
00:36:11He's met a certain
00:36:12major Iqbal of Pakistan's ISI.
00:36:15Tahwar Hussain Rana
00:36:16was in touch with
00:36:17major Iqbal of ISI.
00:36:18And these people would then plan
00:36:20when to target India,
00:36:22how to target India.
00:36:23Even after 26-11,
00:36:25they did not stop.
00:36:26They returned to India
00:36:27to carry out
00:36:27more reconnaissance missions
00:36:29because they wanted
00:36:30to continue targeting India.
00:36:32This is the level of evil
00:36:34that India is dealing with
00:36:35in Pakistan.
00:36:36And then he has the goal
00:36:37to say that
00:36:38I will not be extradited.
00:36:39I do not want to be extradited
00:36:40to India
00:36:41because I'm of Pakistani origin
00:36:42and I'm a Muslim
00:36:43and I'll be persecuted
00:36:44in India.
00:36:46So these are the kinds of people.
00:36:48They carried out
00:36:49that terror attack.
00:36:49They wanted to return
00:36:50to carry out
00:36:51more terror attacks.
00:36:52You know, Pooja,
00:36:52what's extremely significant?
00:36:54Who are the local people
00:36:55they were regularly
00:36:56in touch with?
00:36:58That has never been unraveled.
00:36:59Who are Lashkar-e-Taiba
00:37:00sleeper cells
00:37:01or overground workers
00:37:03in India?
00:37:04That's that big question
00:37:05that needs to be unraveled now.
00:37:07And that is why
00:37:08this investigation
00:37:09is very important
00:37:10and now will enter
00:37:11a crucial stage
00:37:11even if it is after
00:37:1270 years.
00:37:13Like you're mentioning,
00:37:14Gaurav,
00:37:14I can't help but think.
00:37:15Remember,
00:37:15Ajmal Kasab
00:37:16was this young teenager,
00:37:19uneducated,
00:37:20poor.
00:37:20But these radicals
00:37:22were Pakistani doctors,
00:37:25educated
00:37:25and yet so highly radicalized
00:37:28that they were
00:37:28wanting to kill
00:37:30innocent people,
00:37:31women,
00:37:31men,
00:37:32children
00:37:32who had absolutely
00:37:34no role
00:37:34in the sort of
00:37:35India-Pakistan war.
00:37:36That's the kind of evil mind
00:37:37Tahavud Rana
00:37:38and his team
00:37:39had had.
00:37:40Gaurav,
00:37:40I request you to stay on.
00:37:41I'm also joined
00:37:42by Munish Pandey.
00:37:43Munish,
00:37:43tell us how
00:37:44India constantly
00:37:46reached out
00:37:47to American authorities,
00:37:48ensured that
00:37:49Tahavud Rana
00:37:49would be brought back.
00:37:51Because when
00:37:51Donald Trump
00:37:52makes that announcement
00:37:53and says that
00:37:55we are going to
00:37:55send him back,
00:37:56that clearly
00:37:56in many ways
00:37:57is a diplomatic achievement.
00:38:01Absolutely,
00:38:02Pooja,
00:38:02because remember
00:38:03extradition
00:38:04may be a judicial process
00:38:05but in any case,
00:38:08extradition cannot happen
00:38:09until the time
00:38:09there is a good
00:38:10diplomatic relationship
00:38:11with that country
00:38:12and it is
00:38:13a testimony
00:38:14that India
00:38:15not only pressurized
00:38:16the US authorities
00:38:17through the evidence
00:38:19which they gathered
00:38:19during the investigation
00:38:20against Tahavud Rana
00:38:21but also
00:38:22it is a win
00:38:23for the government,
00:38:26that is,
00:38:26Modi government
00:38:27that they
00:38:28use the diplomatic
00:38:29channels
00:38:30to ensure
00:38:30that Tahavud Rana
00:38:31is sent back
00:38:32to India.
00:38:33There is no doubt
00:38:34about it.
00:38:35As far as
00:38:36the Indian
00:38:37authorities
00:38:37are concerned,
00:38:38they were trying
00:38:39to put as much
00:38:40evidence as they
00:38:41can before
00:38:42the US court
00:38:43so that
00:38:44there is one
00:38:45clarity,
00:38:46that is
00:38:46Tahavud Rana
00:38:47is a terrorist.
00:38:48He was not
00:38:49only a participant
00:38:51in 2611 attack
00:38:53but also
00:38:53he was one of
00:38:54the key
00:38:55conspirators
00:38:55and mastermind.
00:38:57Now,
00:38:57as far as
00:38:57the evidence
00:38:58are concerned,
00:38:59the Indian
00:39:00authorities,
00:39:01especially the
00:39:01Mumbai police
00:39:02and the
00:39:02NIA,
00:39:03they,
00:39:04you know,
00:39:05submitted evidence
00:39:05that Tahavud Rana
00:39:06is the person
00:39:07who stayed
00:39:08in Taj Hotel
00:39:09for more
00:39:09than five
00:39:10days
00:39:10just to
00:39:11recce
00:39:12that particular
00:39:14hotel.
00:39:14And remember,
00:39:15Pooja,
00:39:15you know,
00:39:16we all have
00:39:16seen that
00:39:18picture when
00:39:19the Taj
00:39:21Palace or
00:39:22the Taj
00:39:22Hotel in
00:39:22Mumbai was
00:39:23under attack
00:39:24by the
00:39:24Pakistani
00:39:25terrorists.
00:39:26Now,
00:39:26not only that,
00:39:28you know,
00:39:29Tahavud Rana
00:39:29is a person
00:39:30who was also
00:39:31responsible for
00:39:32providing the
00:39:34ground support,
00:39:35which means that
00:39:35the GPS-enabled
00:39:37satellite,
00:39:39hand grenades,
00:39:39the other,
00:39:40you know,
00:39:41ground support,
00:39:42all those
00:39:43support were
00:39:44given by
00:39:44Tahavud Rana
00:39:45and Indian
00:39:46authorities,
00:39:46Indian agencies
00:39:47were able to
00:39:48prove this
00:39:48with evidence
00:39:49before the
00:39:50U.S.
00:39:50court,
00:39:51and that is
00:39:51why,
00:39:51you know,
00:39:52Tahavud Rana
00:39:52tried every
00:39:53effort to
00:39:55ensure that
00:39:55he is not
00:39:56extradited to
00:39:57India in a
00:39:57recent application
00:39:58against
00:39:59extradition.
00:40:00When told,
00:40:01I am a
00:40:01Muslim,
00:40:02so I should
00:40:02not be sent
00:40:03to India
00:40:03because I
00:40:04will be
00:40:04tortured
00:40:04in the
00:40:05prison of
00:40:07India.
00:40:08But,
00:40:08you know,
00:40:09the U.S.
00:40:09authorities
00:40:10were
00:40:10overburden
00:40:11by the
00:40:11evidence
00:40:12which was
00:40:12submitted
00:40:13by the
00:40:14NIA
00:40:14and the
00:40:15Indian
00:40:15authorities
00:40:15by the
00:40:16Indian
00:40:16government.
00:40:17And finally,
00:40:18even the
00:40:19Supreme Court
00:40:19agreed that
00:40:20this is a
00:40:20person who
00:40:21was not
00:40:22only involved
00:40:22in the
00:40:2326-11
00:40:23attack,
00:40:24but he is
00:40:24a key
00:40:25conspirator
00:40:25and he
00:40:26should be
00:40:26sent back
00:40:27to India.
00:40:28Why this
00:40:28is important?
00:40:29Because the
00:40:2926-11
00:40:30attack happened
00:40:30almost 16
00:40:31years back.
00:40:32But Tahavud
00:40:33Rana's
00:40:33extradition
00:40:34and now
00:40:35his trial
00:40:35will ensure
00:40:36the role
00:40:37of Pakistan,
00:40:38the role
00:40:38of ISI,
00:40:39how Pakistan
00:40:40provided the
00:40:41ground support
00:40:41and terrorists
00:40:42which were
00:40:43given.
00:40:44Very important
00:40:44point,
00:40:45Munish,
00:40:45you are making.
00:40:46This isn't
00:40:46about Tahavud
00:40:47Rana,
00:40:47this is about
00:40:48a larger
00:40:48issue of
00:40:49exposing
00:40:49Pakistan like
00:40:50we did
00:40:51with Kassab
00:40:51and now
00:40:52time to
00:40:52remind the
00:40:53world with
00:40:54regard to
00:40:54Tahavud
00:40:55Rana as
00:40:55well.
00:40:55I remember
00:40:56this must
00:40:56have taken
00:40:56a lot of
00:40:57back-channel
00:40:57talks,
00:40:58work and
00:40:58especially
00:40:58approaching
00:40:59the judiciary
00:40:59as much
00:41:00sending out
00:41:00legal teams.
00:41:02Stay on
00:41:02with me
00:41:02Munish
00:41:03please because
00:41:03I am joined
00:41:04by Major
00:41:04General Ashwini
00:41:05Sivad joining
00:41:06me and as a
00:41:07defence expert
00:41:08sir you tell
00:41:08me the kind
00:41:09of planning
00:41:09that is done
00:41:10by a
00:41:11Pakistani
00:41:12Canadian
00:41:12doctor then
00:41:13sending in
00:41:14David Coleman
00:41:15Headley then
00:41:15sending a whole
00:41:16team of these
00:41:17terrorists
00:41:17radicalised from
00:41:18Pakistan managing
00:41:19to enter into
00:41:20Mumbai to
00:41:22then indulge in
00:41:23this massacre
00:41:23as we call
00:41:24the 26-11
00:41:25attacks.
00:41:26What does
00:41:26this moment
00:41:27mean for
00:41:28India?
00:41:28How should
00:41:29India proceed
00:41:29with it?
00:41:30Because I
00:41:30personally would
00:41:31not want to
00:41:32see a very
00:41:32long trial.
00:41:33I would like
00:41:34it to be
00:41:34fast,
00:41:35conclusive and
00:41:36soon.
00:41:37No doubt.
00:41:38As far as
00:41:39India is
00:41:39concerned,
00:41:40Pooja,
00:41:41it is a
00:41:42great victory
00:41:43that we have
00:41:43managed to
00:41:44get the
00:41:45main
00:41:45preparator
00:41:45of Mumbai
00:41:47attack.
00:41:49Tahur Rana
00:41:49is a person
00:41:50who has played
00:41:51a main role
00:41:52in providing
00:41:53a logistics
00:41:53port in
00:41:54India.
00:41:55He is the
00:41:55one who
00:41:55has carried
00:41:56out
00:41:56the various
00:41:57locations
00:41:58and then
00:41:59also able
00:42:00to brief
00:42:01David
00:42:02Heidley.
00:42:02So he
00:42:03once comes
00:42:04to India,
00:42:05all dots
00:42:06will be
00:42:06connected.
00:42:07So far
00:42:07the Pakistan
00:42:08has been
00:42:08always saying
00:42:09that ISI
00:42:11was never
00:42:11linked with
00:42:12Mumbai
00:42:12attack.
00:42:13It was
00:42:13only the
00:42:14lone state
00:42:15actor.
00:42:15But once
00:42:16he comes
00:42:16here,
00:42:17he gives
00:42:18confession,
00:42:18he shows
00:42:19on the
00:42:19area as
00:42:20to how
00:42:20the
00:42:21directives
00:42:21were conducted,
00:42:22how the
00:42:22logistics
00:42:23port was
00:42:23provided,
00:42:24then everything
00:42:25will become
00:42:25a secret
00:42:26here.
00:42:26Our case
00:42:27will become
00:42:27much,
00:42:27much stronger.
00:42:28We will
00:42:28able to
00:42:29expose
00:42:29Pakistan
00:42:30ISI more
00:42:31than anything
00:42:32else and
00:42:32direct
00:42:33involvement
00:42:33in Mumbai
00:42:34attack.
00:42:35Now,
00:42:35that's the
00:42:36main,
00:42:36main issue.
00:42:37As far as
00:42:38Tahur Rana
00:42:39is concerned,
00:42:40you will find
00:42:41it,
00:42:41law will take
00:42:43its own time,
00:42:44no doubt
00:42:44about it.
00:42:45But what,
00:42:46certainly we have
00:42:46sent a message
00:42:47across the
00:42:48world as
00:42:49well as
00:42:49in Pakistan,
00:42:50anyone who
00:42:51has committed
00:42:51a serious
00:42:52crime in
00:42:53India,
00:42:54let him hide
00:42:54anywhere,
00:42:55India will
00:42:55get it
00:42:56back.
00:42:56Because we
00:42:56have fought
00:42:57it like
00:42:57anything.
00:42:58Remember
00:42:58that ISI
00:42:59spent a
00:43:00billion of
00:43:01dollars there
00:43:02in the
00:43:02US to
00:43:03ensure that
00:43:04he should
00:43:04not come
00:43:04back.
00:43:05They have
00:43:05tried their
00:43:06back.
00:43:06But ultimately,
00:43:07the truth has
00:43:08prevailed.
00:43:09He has to
00:43:09come back.
00:43:10He has to
00:43:10now face
00:43:11India do.
00:43:12Major General
00:43:12Sivaj,
00:43:13when we
00:43:13bring in
00:43:14this man
00:43:16again,
00:43:17as Donald
00:43:17Trump called
00:43:18him,
00:43:18one of the
00:43:18most evil
00:43:19people into
00:43:19India,
00:43:20he will face
00:43:20the law.
00:43:21How do you
00:43:21think we
00:43:22use Tahur
00:43:22Rana to
00:43:23expose
00:43:24Pakistan?
00:43:24Because
00:43:25eventually it's
00:43:25about the
00:43:26country,
00:43:26the establishment
00:43:27and the
00:43:28ISI.
00:43:29Absolutely.
00:43:30Tahur Rana
00:43:31is a Canadian
00:43:32citizen of
00:43:33Pakistan origin.
00:43:35He was a
00:43:35doctor in
00:43:36Pakistan army.
00:43:38So he
00:43:38knows how
00:43:39the ISI
00:43:40functioned.
00:43:40He was
00:43:40the one
00:43:41who was
00:43:41hired by
00:43:42the
00:43:42Pakistani
00:43:43ISI.
00:43:44And then
00:43:44once he
00:43:45came to
00:43:45India,
00:43:46he is
00:43:46the one
00:43:47which
00:43:47basically
00:43:48operated
00:43:48through his
00:43:49network.
00:43:49He opened
00:43:50his agency.
00:43:51So therefore
00:43:52once he
00:43:53comes in
00:43:54India and
00:43:55starts revealing
00:43:56the truth and
00:43:57he gives
00:43:57the confession,
00:43:58then the
00:43:59ISI role in
00:44:00Mumbai attack
00:44:01will become
00:44:01very clear.
00:44:02And that
00:44:03is what
00:44:03India wants.
00:44:04India
00:44:04is telling
00:44:05time again
00:44:05to
00:44:06Pakistan.
00:44:07He
00:44:07has sent
00:44:07so many
00:44:08dozer of
00:44:08allegedly.
00:44:09They have
00:44:09never taken
00:44:10action.
00:44:10They have
00:44:10not taken
00:44:11action against
00:44:12three, four
00:44:12ISI officers
00:44:14who were
00:44:15there.
00:44:16So now
00:44:16once
00:44:17Taurana will
00:44:19come, he
00:44:19will give
00:44:20everything very
00:44:21clearly.
00:44:22Then our
00:44:22case will
00:44:23become very
00:44:23strong.
00:44:24And the
00:44:24message which
00:44:25we are sending
00:44:26to our
00:44:26Indians also,
00:44:27that you
00:44:27know the
00:44:28point is that
00:44:29India is one
00:44:29country which
00:44:30is no more
00:44:31a soft
00:44:31country.
00:44:32In case
00:44:32someone has
00:44:33committed a
00:44:33crime and
00:44:34has taken
00:44:34shelter in
00:44:36anywhere even
00:44:37in the U.S.,
00:44:39we will get
00:44:39him back.
00:44:40I suppose a
00:44:40very good
00:44:41move and
00:44:41law will
00:44:42take its
00:44:42own time.
00:44:43Very good
00:44:43point, sir.
00:44:44Very good
00:44:45point.
00:44:45The effort by
00:44:46India to
00:44:46ensure you
00:44:47may be hiding
00:44:47anywhere but
00:44:48if you kill
00:44:48our people,
00:44:49we will come
00:44:50after you too.
00:44:51Thank you very
00:44:52much, Major
00:44:52General AK
00:44:52Sivach.
00:44:53I want to go
00:44:53back to
00:44:54Gaurav and
00:44:54Munish.
00:44:54Gaurav, you
00:44:56tell me, I'm
00:44:57sure the
00:44:57Indian legal
00:44:59team, as
00:45:00much as
00:45:00those, whether
00:45:01it's the
00:45:02investigation part
00:45:02of it or, of
00:45:04course, politically,
00:45:05how do you
00:45:05think Tahavul Rana's
00:45:07extradition will
00:45:08help expose
00:45:09Pakistan?
00:45:09And I say that
00:45:10and ask that
00:45:11because he could
00:45:11always say, I
00:45:12am now a
00:45:13Canadian citizen,
00:45:14I have been in
00:45:15the U.S.
00:45:16even in custody,
00:45:17and therefore, how
00:45:18does India
00:45:18proceed to show
00:45:19it's actually the
00:45:20reality with regard
00:45:21to Pakistan?
00:45:24Gaurav, if
00:45:27you can hear
00:45:27me.
00:45:29All right, I'll
00:45:29take that question
00:45:30to Munish
00:45:30Pandey.
00:45:31Munish, you
00:45:32tell me right
00:45:32now, because
00:45:33the protocol is
00:45:34that there would
00:45:35be a team that
00:45:35has finished the
00:45:36formalities.
00:45:37When a formality
00:45:38of this nature is
00:45:39completed in the
00:45:40U.S.A., what
00:45:42is the timeline you
00:45:43are looking at
00:45:44possibly to bring
00:45:45back Tahavul
00:45:46Hussain Rana?
00:45:52All right, so
00:45:53we'll be tracking
00:45:54this big story,
00:45:55but just to
00:45:55update the viewer
00:45:56tuning in right
00:45:57now, remember,
00:45:58our colleagues are
00:45:58trying to get
00:45:59more voices,
00:46:00they're trying to
00:46:01get more updates
00:46:02on this incident
00:46:04right now.
00:46:05To give you a
00:46:05background,
00:46:06Pakistan's former
00:46:08army officer,
00:46:10a medical doctor,
00:46:12Tahavul Hussain
00:46:12Rana was a key
00:46:14plotter.
00:46:15He was one of
00:46:15the big co-conspirators
00:46:16of the 26-11
00:46:17Mumbai terror
00:46:18attacks.
00:46:19As I say, it
00:46:20was a massacre of
00:46:21innocent people,
00:46:22Indians and other
00:46:23nationalities and
00:46:24ethnicities.
00:46:25He had a GPS
00:46:26system.
00:46:27He recorded exact
00:46:28coordinates of the
00:46:29sites.
00:46:30He did a full-on
00:46:30recce where he and
00:46:32another Pakistan-American
00:46:34radicalized terrorist,
00:46:35David Coleman-Hedley,
00:46:36carried out the
00:46:37mission, the recce,
00:46:39before eventually
00:46:4026-11 Mumbai
00:46:42terror attacks
00:46:43happened.
00:46:44It's been more
00:46:46than a decade of it,
00:46:48but now India is
00:46:49ensuring that this
00:46:4926-11 plotter will be
00:46:51extradited to India
00:46:52from the USA.
00:46:53He will have to
00:46:53face the law.
00:46:54Think of the
00:46:55families who lost
00:46:56their loved ones in
00:46:57Mumbai, multiple
00:46:58locations, and as
00:46:59much Tukaram Omle
00:47:00right now who we
00:47:01think are brave
00:47:02police personnel who
00:47:03lost their life.
00:47:04More on that in
00:47:05this report.
00:47:19Seventeen years after
00:47:20one of the worst
00:47:21Pakistan state-sponsored
00:47:23radical Islamist terror
00:47:24strikes in India, the
00:47:25decks have finally been
00:47:26cleared for one of the
00:47:28key 26-11 plotters,
00:47:30Captain Tahwur Hussain
00:47:32Rana to be extradited
00:47:33to India from the
00:47:35United States.
00:47:38Captain Tahwur Rana is
00:47:40a former doctor of the
00:47:41Pakistan Army who lived
00:47:43in Canada and was
00:47:45recruited as a
00:47:46Lashkar-e-Taiba sleeper
00:47:47cell by Pakistani
00:47:49American terrorist
00:47:50David Coleman-Hedley
00:47:52long before the 26-11
00:47:54Mumbai terror attacks.
00:47:55Rana officially ran an
00:47:59immigration company in
00:48:00Canada and both
00:48:02Hedley and Rana used
00:48:03the company as a front
00:48:05to set up offices in
00:48:06Mumbai and used their
00:48:08U.S. and Canadian
00:48:09passports repeatedly to
00:48:12come to India and carry
00:48:13out reconnaissance
00:48:14missions.
00:48:18During Prime Minister
00:48:19Narendra Modi's recent
00:48:21visit to the U.S.,
00:48:22President Donald Trump
00:48:23spoke of counter-terror
00:48:25cooperation and the
00:48:27extradition of Captain
00:48:29Rana to India to face
00:48:31trial in the Mumbai
00:48:32terror attacks case.
00:48:37Today I'm pleased to
00:48:38announce that my
00:48:39administration has
00:48:40approved the extradition
00:48:41of one of the plotters
00:48:42and one of the very evil
00:48:44people of the world and
00:48:47having to do with the
00:48:49horrific 2008 Mumbai
00:48:52terrorist attack to face
00:48:55justice in India.
00:48:56So he's going to be going
00:48:58back to India to face
00:49:00justice.
00:49:02The U.S.
00:49:03Supreme Court Chief
00:49:04Justice turned down
00:49:06Captain Tahavu Rana's
00:49:07last-minute plea to
00:49:09remain in the U.S.
00:49:12Captain Rana had claimed
00:49:14being a Muslim of
00:49:15Pakistani origin, he
00:49:17would be unsafe in India
00:49:18and may not live to
00:49:20stand trial.
00:49:21but nothing could be
00:49:23further from the truth
00:49:24since even Ajmal Amir
00:49:26Kassab, the
00:49:27Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba
00:49:29terrorist who was caught
00:49:30alive after the
00:49:31supreme sacrifice of
00:49:33Assistant Sub-Inspector
00:49:35Tukaram Umbale during the
00:49:3726-11 Mumbai terror
00:49:38attacks, was given a free
00:49:40and fair trial before being
00:49:42hanged.
00:49:43Pakistan, the

00:49:47Ajmal Amir

00:50:08The National Investigation Agency and Intelligence Agencies proposed to interrogate Captain Rana
00:50:24to unravel the role of Pakistan Army, ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists including Hafiz
00:50:31Mohammed Saeed in the planning and execution of the 2611 Mumbai terror attacks that resulted in the loss of 166 lives in India.
00:50:45The joint statement which was adopted during the visit of the Prime Minister also reflects this sentiment.
00:50:51We are working closely with the US government to meet the necessary formalities to allow for his extradition to India.
00:50:57So that is where it is. There are certain legalities in the United States for which I cannot answer
00:51:02but those also have to be taken care of. But our understanding is that we are working with the US government.
00:51:10Pakistan has been very apprehensive about Pakistan Army's Captain Rana's extradition to India.
00:51:16Pakistan fears, skeletons in their cupboard will come tumbling out exposing Pakistan's military terror network globally.
00:51:25Bureau Report, India today.
00:51:37This is now becoming a pattern.
00:51:40Self-style godman accused of rape and murder Ram Rahim Singh gets a furlough again.
00:51:45It's a 21-day furlough to the one accused of rape and murder, self-style godman Ram Rahim Singh, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, as he is called the Sirsad Dera Chief.
00:51:57Haryana government showing extreme kindness to this man, accused of serious charges, the love charger man, remember the love charger guru.
00:52:05Haryana government again has granted a 21-day furlough to this man, we are told that he has left already for Sirsad Dera.
00:52:17Wow, so this morning, under police protection, he has already been allowed to leave to a certain location and we are told that he will stay in the Sirsad Dera, which is basically his domain, he has come out on, before Delhi elections he was out on 30 days already, that there have been other paroles that he has got, usually ahead of election season,
00:52:29because he does have a, as you can see on his screens, look at that, a massive popularity.
00:52:47Kamalji Sandhu joining me for this big news. Kamalji, this is just not a surprise anymore, but I am also surprised how it is becoming a pattern.
00:52:54And information coming in, his close aide, Hanypreet reaching to receive him, what's happening, what is the reason this time?
00:53:04Well, you know, Pooja, one of the things is that there have been frequent paroles and furloughs granted to Dera Fattah Sauda Chief Gurneet Ram Rahim.
00:53:15There was also a petition by the SDPC both in Punjab and Haryana High Court and eventually Supreme Court, which was dismissed,
00:53:21especially because initially SDPC had actually alleged that there was misuse of power by Haryana government under Section 11 of Haryana would conduct prisoners' temporary release.
00:53:34But meanwhile, what Haryana government's plea was that they were only going after the jail manual.
00:53:40So that is a petition which was granted and that is how he continues to get furloughs and paroles.
00:53:47This time around, it's a 21-day furlough.
00:53:50And this time, since there are no elections around the corner in North India, be it Haryana or neighboring Delhi,
00:53:56so that this time he is actually allowed to go to his SIRSA, his headquarters.
00:54:02But yes, there have been frequent cases of furloughs and paroles.
00:54:06But, you know, there's also been a talk about how there was VVIP treatment,
00:54:11which is something that Haryana government has been able to convince that that's not the case that he's been treated like any other prisoner.
00:54:17But clearly, this has irked a lot of people and sections, especially because he's convicted of rape of two disciples.
00:54:25He's also been convicted of murder of one of the journalists.
00:54:29There's also one case which is now, Supreme Court has agreed to have CBIS plea regarding his own manager, Ranjit Singh.
00:54:38So there is trouble mounting for Gurmeet Ram Raheem.
00:54:41Meanwhile, he continues to get and enjoy furloughs and paroles.
00:54:47All right, Kamaljeet Sandhu telling us about how Gurmeet Ram Raheem has got a 30-day furlough parole, basically of a kind.
00:54:55And he's out again for almost a month.
00:54:59But that's how precisely at least some prisoners, so to say, get that facility that they can avail.
00:55:09All right, let me get you an update now from the state of Bengal.
00:55:1325,000 teachers who face the sacking now because the Supreme Court ruling of how tainted the election, the selection procedure was.
00:55:21And remember, we are talking about teaching and non-teaching stuff.
00:55:24But the TMC is jumping to the support of the teachers and saying they'll hold a protest today in Kolkata.
00:55:31They are saying that many teachers have lost their job because of a conspiracy by BJP and CPM.
00:55:37TMC will also organize protests across different wards and districts across Bengal.
00:55:41But Union Minister Sukantu Majumdar has slammed TMC, accusing it of corruption,
00:55:45of how even evidence that could have got certain tainted individuals behind bars was all destroyed,
00:55:51like some of the OMR sheets, because they wanted to conceal the crime.
00:55:54LOP Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has written to President Draupadi Murmu, seeking her intervention over the mass firings.
00:56:00He's saying that even untainted teachers are facing the acts.
00:56:04They are also being fired.
00:56:06And the real perpetrators must be brought to justice.
00:56:09So that's the big news.
00:56:13Remember, 25,000 in total is a big number, teaching and non-teaching staff.
00:56:18And this was a highly controversial selection process that had happened.
00:56:23There had been protests, there had been allegations that, remember, this was cash for job scam,
00:56:28that you will get the job even if you're not deserving, if you pay up to certain individuals.
00:56:33The accusation was against the ruling party.
00:56:40Staying with Bengal, I want to now take you to Murshidabad.
00:56:43Arson rampage violence was seen on the ground.
00:56:46This was an anti-Wakf bill protest, but it turned fully violent.
00:56:50And what we see are scary visuals.
00:56:52Look at this on your screen.
00:56:53Tensions flared in Murshidabad.
00:56:55Protesters started with a demonstration against the Wakf Amendment Bill that's been passed by the parliament.
00:57:00But a clash broke out between protesters and the cops.
00:57:03It started when the cops tried to remove a certain roadblock.
00:57:06Agitated protesters started to pelt stones at the cops.
00:57:09They even burned down some of the police vehicles.
00:57:12In return, police had to fire tear gas shells and they had to resort to mild lathi charge as well.
00:57:17Some protesters raising anti-constitution slogans, saying they do not even accept the constitution.
00:57:21And this led to a showdown.
00:57:23Some of the sloganeering that was made at this protest.
00:57:26BJP is saying that this is because Mamata Banerji is unable to control a certain kind of Islamist mob all the time in Bengal.
00:57:33They are asking for her resignation and they are saying it's her appeasement politics that has led to this situation in Murshidabad.
00:57:39This is because of the protest.
00:58:09Indirect help with all the things that are happening, and this is the case of 26,000 people in this country,
00:58:18this is the concentration of people from this country, and this is the other issues that are happening,
00:58:24and this is the way we try to do it.
00:58:39foreign
00:59:09India Today's Suryaghani Roy is joining me from Kolkata for the latest on that.
00:59:13Suryaghani, good morning. What is the situation like right now in Mushidabad?
00:59:17What exactly happened? A demonstration is allowed, but it turned into a full-on arson and violence.
00:59:22You know, yesterday there were multiple bodies over there that called for a protest march in Jangipur, in Mushidabad.
00:59:32Now, what we have come to know is that when, you know, there was some kind of a road blockage by some of the people who were participants of the group,
00:59:43there, you know, police tried to remove one of those blockages and in that a guy fell, one of the protesters fell.
00:59:52What the people over there thought that that particular person, the person in context over here,
00:59:57he was, they thought that that person was, you know, brutally attacked and, you know, he lost his life and he was very unconscious.
01:00:05This is, that was some, that was a rumor that was, you know, that erupted over there.
01:00:09And that led to the violence and the attack on the police.
01:00:12Later on, what we saw was, you know, police used force that he charged to disperse the crowd.
01:00:20And, and at night at Mushidabad's Rohanath Port district and Shukri police, you know, jurisdiction over there,
01:00:29section 163 BNSS was imposed.
01:00:35And, you know, even the internet has been snapped over there.
01:00:38However, what we do come to know is that the situation was pretty normal over there since last evening itself.
01:00:45And traffic movement was also, you know, passing deep, the diverse Bengal police also came out on social media
01:00:52and came out with their version and also stated that, you know, rumor mongering should not happen
01:00:59so that, you know, any kind of tension erupts.
01:01:01Back to you.
01:01:03All right, Suryaghani, keep tracking the latest on that.
01:01:05Visuals coming in from Murshidabad of a violent mob agitation that took place.
01:01:15Trinamul Congress has come out with a claim that fringe is threatening to shut the fish market.
01:01:23In many ways, a staple when it comes to the state of Bengal, Trinamul Congress.
01:01:27I correct myself, Trinamul Congress says that this is about Delhi,
01:01:32that threat to the fish market beside a Delhi temple.
01:01:36TMC MP says, and fish shops, remember, for the Bengali community largely is very significant.
01:01:42about TMC MPs claiming that fish shops are being shut.
01:01:47Traders are being threatened.
01:01:49BJP is alleging vested political interest.
01:01:51Sharing this video on your screen, they are referring to these men wearing orange saffron clothes,
01:01:57saying they are threatening the fish traders.
01:02:00It's a BJP, and BJP in its words says that fish market is also in question to the sanctity of the temples.
01:02:10Delhi BJP President Virendra Sajdeva slammed Bahua Bhoitra and asserted fish markets at Chitranjan Park,
01:02:16which is a predominantly Bengali locality, so to say,
01:02:20where legally allotted shops and fish traders have always maintained the sanctity of the temple.
01:02:26All right, so this is what I'm telling you,
01:02:29that we'll try and get the clarity on how BJP is also saying that nobody is targeting the fish traders.
01:02:35I'm telling you,
01:03:05Yes, he was such a good a lot from us.
01:03:12He is good སུདོ༱ས རཟུདས པ ཧྱུས ཐབ

01:03:49I am concerned about this matter, there are so many shops here.
01:03:52Our culture of question is that on the wall you see here,
01:03:55which I'm looking for, I'm suffering from the street,
01:03:58like a museum in the counterpoint.
01:04:00The museum is running around the entire world,
01:04:04which I got there,
01:04:06so you can get there in the US and make it feel pretty clear.
01:04:09The museum is also living in the neighbourhood,
01:04:14which I live in the Market One area,
01:04:17which has a viral video, but here the people have said that no one has seen this video,
01:04:24when the TMC of Mahila Sandsad Mahua Moitra has tweeted and tweeted and tweeted and said that
01:04:31how he was going to be doing this, and a girl in the video, which, you can see,
01:04:39that there is a temple, and that there is a temple, and that there is a temple, and that there is a temple,
01:04:43I am also since 1970, I am also since 1970, I am also since 1970, yes, and now I have no
01:05:08This is a false video. That is wrong. Wrongly they have done. And Mahua Mitra, she wants, you know, her publication.
01:05:23So this is important. Remember, the Delhi BJP says that he's asserting that fish markets at Chitranjan Park are legally allotted.
01:05:31Fish traders have also maintained the sanctity of the temples and that Mahua Mitra or the TMC leaders are deliberately trying to disturb communal harmony.
01:05:40Mahua Mitra had basically claimed BJP is threatening the fish traders for ruining their, for running their business next to a temple.
01:05:49Now, let's listen in again. Then who are these individuals? If they're not from the BJP, who are these individuals who have landed up at a fish market,
01:05:57a popular fish market in Chitranjan Park, a predominantly Bengali colony, and to say, shut your shop, there's a Hanuman Mandir next to it.
01:06:04So this is not possible.
01:06:34foreign
01:07:04foreign
01:07:18foreign
01:07:32So Mahua Moitra alleging, or the TMC leaders alleging, that BJP's workers, leaders are threatening the Fishmarkish to shut because there's a Hanuman Mandir next to it.
01:07:53BJP says, but we didn't do it. These are legally allotted shops and they also in fact help in maintaining sanctity of the temple.
01:08:00So who are these men? How can this just land up and start threatening? What's the police doing about it? Let's get clarity on it.
01:08:06My colleague Himanshu Mishra is right at the spot, joining me live this morning on the first stop.
01:08:11Himanshu, good morning. You tell us first, what happened? Who is this individual's identity confirmed?
01:08:17Are you police reacting like this? And what are people saying in Chitranjan Park?
01:08:21Let's get started.
