00:42On Monday, the death toll from Myanmar's earthquake rose 3,600, with 5,017 people injured and
00:50116 still missing, according to the information in the nation's state administration council.
00:56Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur Headquarters
01:04in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:05We begin with the news to stay with us.
01:20The registration of candidates to state governors and legislative councils and national assembly
01:26deputies continue in Venezuela ahead of the May 25th elections.
01:29According to the National Electoral Council, the parties can nominate or amend their candidates
01:34before April 9th, which is the deadline to submit their final list.
01:39The May 25th elections will involve 24 governorships, the legislative councils of each state, and
01:45deputies to the national assembly across the country.
01:54In this end, the Secretary General of United Socialist Party of Venezuela Diosdado Cabello
01:58highlighted key dates of the electoral process related to the May 25th pull.
02:08The program is very tight.
02:10The nominations are from the 7th to the 11th.
02:13Then we have the accreditation of witnesses from April 25th to May 24th, then the campaign
02:20from April 29th to May 22nd, the electoral fair from April 29th to May 23rd, the mock
02:27election on May 4th, and the election on the 25th.
02:32But on April 27th we have an extraordinary event which is the popular consultation in
02:37the communal councils, in the communes, about the projects.
02:42This is all within the principles of participatory democracy and of the real direct protagonist
02:50role of our people.
02:56Lawais Cabello also referred to the governor's work and its close relations with the plan
03:01of the homeland and the 7th transformation.
03:09Within 48 days, in 7 weeks, there are elections in this country, elections for governors,
03:16the national assembly and state legislative councils, a tight agenda.
03:22Each governor will present his government plan at the time of registration, a work done
03:27according to the plan of the homeland and to the 7 transformations with their different
03:32subjectives not only at the national but at state levels.
03:41When Alberto Cabello stated that the Bolivarian government continues to receive Venezuelan
03:45migrants, stressing that they have been victims of violence and mistreatment by the US government
03:51and authorities.
04:00We have continued to receive the comrades who are returning from other countries, we
04:05have been receiving them in exactly the same way without any kind of variation.
04:11We have also expressed the conditions in which some of them have been mistreated or
04:16left without food for days, without eating, without having committed any crime, they have
04:22been persecuted, captured and expelled, and here they are received as brothers.
04:29Whoever has any pending case with the law will have to face justice.
04:42In Honduras, experts from the community of Latin American and Caribbean states discussed
04:47the points to be submitted to the foreign ministers of the regional organization for
04:51the approval at the head of state summit on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025.
04:56The event began this Monday with the participation of national coordinators from 33 member countries
05:02who will work on the technical aspects of the summit's draft declaration to be approved
05:07by the foreign ministers and head of state.
05:09According to experts, this draft will mark the lines of work and policy measures for
05:14a region in the coming years.
05:16The meeting also seeks to advance the regional agenda and strengthen cooperation ties between
05:21Latin American and Caribbean nations.
05:23It is expected that at the end of the summit, Honduran Presidency Omada Castro will hand
05:28over the temporary presidency of the organization to her Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.
05:41The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reaffirmed on Monday her attendance to the
05:44summit of the community of Latin American and Caribbean states, ALACS, to be held in
05:49Honduras from April 8th to the 9th.
05:54I think it is an important moment to talk about the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean.
06:03Not only with the presidents who come from a progressive movement, but because of the
06:11importance of broadening the relationship between Latin America and the Caribbean.
06:18We are a region with enormous potential, a very close culture.
06:27That is part of what I will say.
06:33The survey of the Santiago de Chile subway was restored after a three-hour disruption
06:37on Monday.
06:38According to the authorities, the disruption was caused by technical failures reported
06:42a few minutes before a.m. local time at a Catholic university and Santa Lucia station,
06:48forcing their shutdown.
06:50The incident had its effects over a long stretch generating evacuation and, above all, massive
06:56crowds at bus stops with people looking for native transportation.

07:32Welcome back to From the South, the 21st edition of the Freelance Camps, Brazil's largest indigenous
07:38mobilizations in Brasilia, on Monday in homage to the 20th anniversary of the articulation
07:44of indigenous peoples of Brazil.
07:47Close to 10,000 indigenous people from all regions of Brazil and Latin America are expected
07:51to attend the gathering that takes place from April 7th to the 12th.
07:55With a program that includes plenary sessions, debates, cultural activities, and street demonstrations,
08:01the event has at the center of debate the suspension status of Law 14-701, a temporary
08:09Franco law which is the subject of several lawsuits before the Federal Supreme Court.
08:21We are here.
08:23We are expecting between 8 to 10,000 indigenous people from all over Brazil and Latin America
08:31as well.
08:33It is also the main struggle we bring here.
08:37It's about the survival of life and the continued defense of the planet.
08:43Among our complaints are the criminalization, the persecution of indigenous leaders, the
08:48assassinations, and above all, we also look at the issue of financing that is made in
08:53the name of conservation, in the name of climate change, in the name of large millions and
08:58does not reach the territory.
09:03On Monday, the Cuban government reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion of health
09:07for all people in all countries of the world.
09:10On the occasion of the World Health Day, Cuba's Prime Minister Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed
09:16the will to continue providing solidarity assistance to the nations that require it.
09:21Rodríguez also pointed out that in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and
09:26Asia, the experience, dedication, and quality of services provided by Cuban medical brigades
09:31are highly acknowledged.
09:41In commemoration of World Health Day, the Women's Front of the Paraguay, the Piaguda
09:46Party, together with other union movements, demand that the government of Santiago Peña
09:51implement better conditions in public health.
09:54Public health unions mobilize in front of the health ministry headquarters in the capital
09:59city of Asunción and other departments of the country to demand that the government
10:03address a crisis facing the public health sector.
10:18We come to demand our right to a free and quality public health.
10:23Nothing more and nothing less.
10:25A right that is guaranteed in the national constitution.
10:29But what are our authorities doing?
10:32They make a mockery of the people.
10:34Go figure, they set up a place for providing neonatal therapy.
10:40Then three days later, three or four days later a newborn dies for lack of intensive
10:45care in that place.
10:47What else do we expect from our government?
10:56The Argentinian Stereo Workers Association warns of the crisis in the health system and
11:01demand the national government to guarantee quality public health services.
11:05Throughout Comunique, the union condemned the policies of President Javier Millet and
11:09blamed him for the health crisis in the country after the investments, the budget cuts, the
11:17funding of social projects and massive layoffs.
11:20The Argentinian Stereo Workers Association affirms that for a government, the health
11:25of Argentina is no longer a human right and has become a commodity.
11:37In the United States, the Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to block an order
11:42to return a man wrongly deported to El Salvador.
11:46The order issued on Friday by U.S. District Judge Paula Sidney's request official to
11:52bring back Glitmar Armando Abrego-Garcia to Maryland, who was mistakenly deported to El
11:58Salvador, this in response to a lawsuit filed by a man and his family.
12:02Precisely, Trump's lawyers have made in court documents that the administration deported
12:07a father of three due to a clerical error, but said they could not bring him back because
12:13of his El Salvadoran custody.
12:24U.S. President Trump took to platform Truth Social to announce the imposition of additional
12:2950 percent tariff on China as effected on April 9th.
12:34And he spoke that the president stated, yesterday China issued a tariff of 34 percent on top
12:40of their already record in this tariff, a non-monetary tariff, a legal subsidiation
12:47of companies, and massive long-term currency manipulation, despite my warnings that any
12:56country that retaliates against the U.S. by issuing an additional tariff above and beyond
13:02the already existing long-term tariffs of use of our nation will immediately met with
13:07a new and sustainably higher tariff over and above those initially set.
13:13Therefore, if China does not withdraw its 34 percent tariff increases over and above
13:22those initially set, above their already long-term trading abuses, by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025,
13:31the U.S. will impose additional tariff of China of 50 percent, effective on April 9th.
13:47Iranian government affirmed on Monday that it will not hold direct negotiations with
13:51Trump's administration on nuclear issues.
13:54The decision was made after Tehran and U.S. president sent a letter through the Arab Emirates,
14:00urging the Persian nation to negotiate its nuclear program and threatening to bomb the
14:05country if an agreement was not reached.
14:08The Iranian authorities informed that their decision also responds to Washington's new
14:13sanctions on Iranian oil.
14:15On the other hand, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arshid said his government is awaiting
14:21a response from the White House to start negotiations on the nuclear program in Oman.
15:22Welcome back.
15:23The leaders of the U.N. humanitarian agencies issued a direct joint warning about Gaza on
15:30Monday calling for world leaders to ensure that the basic principles of international
15:35humanitarian law are upheld.
15:38Speaking to journalists at U.N. headquarters, Spokesperson Stefan Duharric said agencies
15:44are calling on the world to react with urgency to save Palestinians in Gaza.
15:49The playoff from humanitarian shift comes as Israel has blocked the entrance of commercial
15:55and humanitarian supplies to Gaza for more than a month while issuing new displacement
16:02orders that have forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee once again.
16:09Duharric added that survivors across Gaza are being forced into ever-sharing space where
16:18their basic needs cannot be met.
16:49bombed and starved again.
16:51Food, medicine, fuel, shelter supplies are piling up at crossing points and vital equipment
16:57is also stuck.
16:59Although the latest ceasefire allowed humanitarians to see that supplies reached every part of
17:05the Gaza Strip, they said that assertions that there is now enough food for all of Palestinians
17:13in the Gaza Strip are far from the reality on the ground.
17:17Meanwhile, our humanitarian colleagues tell us that across Gaza, Israeli attacks continue
17:22unabated causing systematic large-scale civilian casualties.
17:27People including many children are being killed, injured and maimed for life.
17:31Survivors across Gaza are being displaced repeatedly and forced into an ever-shrinking
17:36space where their basic needs just cannot be met.
17:40Overall, we estimate that nearly 400,000 people have been displaced yet again since the break
17:47down of the ceasefire.
17:48That's 18 percent of all Palestinians in Gaza.
17:52And no arrangements to secure their safety and survival have made a responsibility that
17:57falls on Israel as the occupying power.
18:07Hundreds of people protested in Beirut on Monday in solidarity with the Palestinian
18:12in the Gaza Strip as a death toll in the territory climbs after the renewed Israeli
18:17offensive.
18:18Demonstration near Beirut's seaside was organized by local organizations including the Palestine
18:24Solidarity Campaign.
18:26People were delighted in Palestinian and Lebanese flag that was shunned in support of Gaza and
18:31in opposition to Israel.
18:33Israel last month shattered the ceasefire agreement with Hamas with a surprise bombardment
18:39in the Palestinian enclave after trying to pressure Hamas militants to accept the proposed
18:46new terms for the ceasefire.
18:48Israel now controls 50 percent of the territory and is squeezing Palestinians into shrinking
18:54the wage of land.
18:55The Zionist regime has killed over 50,700 Palestinian Muslim women and children.
19:08This protest here on the coast of Beirut is in solidarity with the people of the Mediterranean
19:12coast in the Gaza Strip who have been subjected to a war of for the past 17 months without
19:18anyone taking action to help this people and stop this massacre.
19:22This genocide is a violation of all humanitarian laws, international conventions and norms.
19:28The killing of women and children, the destruction of hospitals, universities and schools is
19:33an attack on all of humanity.
19:42No doubt the whole world is witnessing today the ugliness of this genocide against humanity.
19:47We see a real genocide in front of everyone's eyes, no one can deny it today.
19:51And today, thank God, the whole world is witnessing the crimes committed by the occupying Zionists
19:57on our land, those who, God willing, will be driven out of the land of Palestine even
20:01if after a while.
20:02Moving on, on Monday the death toll from Myanmar's earthquake rose to 3,600, with 5,017 people
20:24injured and 160 still missing according to the information team of the nation's state
20:30administration council.
20:31In this regard, many countries, including Russia and China, as well as the World Health
20:36Organization, have sent rescuers and resources to aid in the aftermath.
20:41International rescuers from Singapore, Malaysia and India returned to their countries after
20:46their work to find survivors was considered complete.
