00:00Will Howard started at Kansas State, won a Big 12 championship.
00:06He goes to The Ohio State, wins a national championship.
00:11He's a monster. He's 6'4", 235.
00:15He's a dual threat. The guy can throw it from the pocket. He can run the ball.
00:20He's one of these culture-building quarterbacks.
00:23He's got great leadership. This guy's got a cannon, and I can't wait to see him rip him.
00:30I really want to prove to Coach Gruden that I can be an elite quarterback
00:34and also learn some damn things from this guy because he's one of the best,
00:38especially on the mental side of things.
00:48You know me. You know I love football statistics.
00:51And let me tell you an impressive stat.
00:53The Chevy Silverado is the undisputed champion.
00:57Capability, versatility, and strength.
01:00That's a truck with MVP stats.
01:03Explore Chevy Silverado at Chevy.com.
01:06QB Class is presented by Chevy Silverado.
01:12Will Howard, The Ohio State Buckeyes.
01:16Congratulations, man. What a run.
01:18Thank you, man. I appreciate it. It was a hell of a year, man.
01:216'4", 235. What'd you weigh in at the combine?
01:24What'd you weigh in at the combine?
01:25I had 236 on me at the combine.
01:27That's some great measurables for a quarterback.
01:30I want to go back to Downington West High School.
01:32You got hurt, didn't you?
01:34I did. My junior year.
01:36Felt like a lot of that recruiting stuff was kind of supposed to be heating up.
01:41And I got my first offer after my sophomore year,
01:44and that junior year was supposed to be real big for me.
01:46And I'm talking to Penn State, I'm talking to all these schools,
01:48and bang, I get injured. I never heard from Penn State again.
01:51It kind of became a little real, and I kind of realized who actually wanted me after that injury.
01:56And K-State actually came in. Big reason why I went there.
01:59Didn't you become a coach, though?
02:01I did. I had to.
02:02Tell me about that, because a lot of guys get hurt.
02:04When I got hurt, I was like, hell with it. I'm going to go chase the girls.
02:07You hung around, and you really helped the young quarterback,
02:11and they tell me you were one of the best coaches on the whole staff.
02:14I remember the day after I got surgery, I wanted to go back to practice,
02:18because I was just like, man, I didn't want to be away.
02:21You love football, don't you?
02:22I love ball, man.
02:23Make a note of that, will you? You love it. Just write it down, I love it.
02:26I love ball.
02:27You know what's going to happen? You're going to find out at the next level,
02:30there'll be a lot of people that try to kick you in the balls.
02:33And a lot of guys, I think, they lose their passion.
02:36They lose their interest in the journey of a long season.
02:40Exactly.
02:41Don't ever forget this. Downingtown West experience, man.
02:45What is this thing? Baby Merlin's magic sleep suit.
02:48Because I've been doing some shopping on Amazon.
02:51What the hell is this?
02:53That's the product, man.
02:56That's my parents' business that I was the inspiration for.
03:02I like to take credit for it.
03:03I struggled sleeping when I was coming out of the swaddle,
03:06and I wouldn't sleep in the crib.
03:08And my mom would bundle me up in this snowsuit.
03:10In this?
03:11Yeah, something like that.
03:13And she would take me out and roll me around the neighborhood,
03:16and then she'd roll me into the living room and sleep for hours.
03:19And she was like, shit, I'll put them in it for at night.
03:22And then she started sewing some for her friends,
03:24and my dad's like, ding, ding, ding.
03:26Like, here's an idea.
03:28This guy here, Chris Kleeman.
03:30Coach Kleeman, man.
03:31Kleeman. Is that what you say?
03:33I call him Kleeman.
03:34Give me one line on Kleeman. Who is this guy?
03:37This dude is a player's coach.
03:39I mean, 100%.
03:40Like, he is a dude that you want to send your son to play for.
03:43He will take care of you on and off the field,
03:46and he's going to push you to be the best you can possibly be.
03:49Who is this guy? Adrian Martinez.
03:51Yeah, man.
03:52Wasn't he starting at Nebraska in your conference?
03:55He was, yeah.
03:56I mean, they were technically Big Ten, but, you know, they were.
03:59Yeah, he's in the – I forgot.
04:01You guys change conferences every fucking year.
04:04But he's a hot shot quarterback in Nebraska, right?
04:07Oh, yeah.
04:08He transfers to Manhattan, Kansas to take your job.
04:11Yeah.
04:12I want to know what was going on there with Coach Kleeman and that whole process.
04:18Yeah, man.
04:19That was a crazy time.
04:20I felt like I wasn't playing up to my ability.
04:22You know, I understood why they wanted to go get a guy, but, you know,
04:25it still pissed me off.
04:26You know, I thought that it was going to be my turn.
04:28You know, I'm stepping in, kind of ready to be that guy.
04:30The immediate reaction from everybody was like, quit, go transfer, go leave.
04:35I was like, man, like I just – I feel like this is the right place for me.
04:38You know, I want to play for Coach Kleeman in fall camp.
04:40Like, I knew that they were probably going to give him the job.
04:42But I was like, shit, I'm going to stay ready.
04:44At the end of the day, like, both of us were a big reason we won that Big 12.
04:47Let's make a note about this compete, man, your journey.
04:51This guy right here has a lot to do with how you got that national championship.
04:55100%.
04:56Right?
04:57Because you could have stopped competing after the Michigan game, right?
04:59Yeah.
05:00Ah, shit.
05:01Right?
05:02You just keep chopping wood, man.
05:04Rich Gannon.
05:05He was the MVP of the league.
05:06I had him.
05:07He's from Delaware.
05:08Yeah, man.
05:09Fifth round draft choice.
05:10The Patriots took him.
05:12They said, you're a DB.
05:13He says, I ain't a DB.
05:14Yeah, man.
05:15He doesn't even play.
05:16He sits out a whole year.
05:18He goes and he plays for the Minnesota Vikings.
05:20They get rid of him.
05:21The Washington Redskins, they get rid of him.
05:23The Kansas City Chiefs, they get rid of him.
05:25And where does he go when he's 32 years old?
05:28The Raiders.
05:29He shredded everybody.
05:31You know why?
05:32Because he kept competing.
05:33Yeah.
05:34You guys were asked to do a lot at the line of scrimmage.
05:36It looked like you even had a snap count.
05:38You remember your snap count at K-State?
05:39I do, man.
05:40Let's hear it.
05:41Let me go full fucking.
05:42Yeah, stand up.
05:43Let me hear it.
05:44Ready, set.
05:45Green, 88.
05:46Green, 88.
05:47Set.
05:48Perfect.
05:49That was what it was.
05:50How much volume?
05:51Like, there's one of my game plans against the Steelers.
05:53Yeah.
05:54We kicked the shit out of them.
05:55I only use game plans where we kick ass.
05:57But how much volume was there in the offense at K-State?
06:01And how much did the game plans change on a weekly basis?
06:04We did a lot of stuff, and I had a lot of freedom at the line.
06:06My first touchdown in this game, this Texas game, was a complete audible.
06:10Like, I changed the play.
06:11Well, fuck, why do you think I'm showing it?
06:13I mean, I got your feel.
06:15Make a note.
06:16RCE.
06:17Recognition.
06:18Recognize the defense.
06:20And now communicate what we want to do to it.
06:23And if we can recognize and communicate at a high level,
06:26it's going to lead to great levels of execution.
06:28You got me?
06:29So what's RCE stand for?
06:31Recognition, communication, execution.
06:33And what did Peyton Manning, number 18, do better than anybody I've ever seen?
06:36RCE.
06:37He did it all in the pre-snap.
06:39He read my mail.
06:40He saw a blitz and he shredded me.
06:42He shot me dead.
06:44Got me fired.
06:45I had to get out of my house.
06:47What is this you're doing here?
06:49What are you laughing at?
06:51That's my boy Gilly, man.
06:53What are you guys doing?
06:54Drinking beer here?
06:55Yeah.
06:56What is it you're doing?
06:57A little shotgun celebration, you know?
06:59What's a shotgun?
07:00Twist a hole in the beverage and shoot that thing through the bottom.
07:05And that was my center.
07:07What do you know about shotguns?
07:09What is this here?
07:11This is a little QB power play.
07:14What is this here?
07:16Stand up, show me that, what it is.
07:18I want young quarterbacks to do this.
07:20So what are you doing down in Manhattan?
07:22I don't know if I would.
07:23Saturday night after the game, you're just shooting some beers down in Manhattan?
07:27Hey, man, I will say, me and the O-line, you know, those are my guys.
07:31So we're winning the game.
07:33Let me see what you're doing here.
07:34A couple of cold beverages.
07:36We're just, you know, giving a little shh.
07:38You guys going to invite me down here?
07:40Teach me how to shoot some beers?
07:42Have a seat.
07:43You're an emotional guy, aren't you?
07:44I am.
07:45I mean, I saw you against Oregon.
07:47You high-fived the ball boy here?
07:49That's my boy Nolan, man.
07:50You do the LeBron James thing after you score, but you are a fiery son of a bitch, aren't you?
07:54Try to play with that edge, man.
07:56You know, I think, you know, I'm a neutral guy.
07:59And, like, if you look at me on the sideline, like, I'm never going to be too high, never going to be too low.
08:02But in those moments where I feel like my team needs that, you know, like that fire.
08:06I love it.
08:07I like to play with that, man, like with that edge.
08:09I love watching you, man.
08:10I love it.
08:11The transfer portal, just for young quarterbacks and for me, I struggle with it personally.
08:16You know, here to there, I mean, it's a weird world, isn't it?
08:19It is.
08:20It's so different.
08:22For the way I use it, I think, you know, it was the best thing that ever happened to me was going to Ohio State and using my last year of eligibility elsewhere.
08:29I heard from Ryan Day that you're a culture builder.
08:32That's what I'm looking for.
08:33Yeah.
08:34At quarterback.
08:35Absolutely.
08:36Rich Gannon came to the Raiders.
08:37I got a lot of credit.
08:38I was a young coach calling these fancy plays.
08:41You know, I was one of the 50 most good-looking guys in the world.
08:44I was in People Magazine.
08:45You don't fucking believe me?
08:46You were?
08:47Yeah, hell yeah, I was.
08:48I was a top 50 beautiful person.
08:50I got a lot of credit, but the guy that turned the Raiders around was my quarterback, Rich Gannon.
08:56What is it about you that helped build a different culture at Ohio State?
09:01You know, the first thing I said when I got to Ohio State was like, I want to get to know these guys.
09:07First, I want to have relationships because they don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
09:13So, they ain't going to listen to me if they don't know me.
09:15I wasn't going to step on anybody's toes.
09:17I was like, you know what?
09:18I want to earn their respect and their trust first, and then I'm going to step into that leadership position.
09:22So, I felt like I did a good job of coming in in the winter and just grinding.
09:26You're on the rise.
09:27Yeah.
09:28You know, I've been watching a lot of your tape.
09:29Yeah.
09:30Your completion percentage from 53% all the way to 73%.
09:35Your last four games in the playoffs, you were shredding people, man.
09:40And I love what I'm seeing.
09:42What's the reason for the improvement?
09:44This year, Coach Kelly put an emphasis on completions.
09:47I tried to make things happen instead of letting things happen.
09:51Like, he literally texted me a couple days ago, like, let it happen, in quotes.
09:56A lot of experience, man, for a young guy coming out of college.
09:5943 starts.
10:00Yep.
10:01The cold weather, the wind, nothing bothers you, does it?
10:04No.
10:05Does this bother you?
10:06No.
10:07Does anything bother you?
10:08Shit doesn't bother me, man.
10:10You're a pocket passer.
10:12I'm looking for a guy that can win in the pocket, number one.
10:15Just maybe give me a summary of how you feel in the pocket
10:19and what are some of your keys to success.
10:21I think a lot of it is just being able to feel where that rush is coming from
10:25and having that natural ability to be able to move in the pocket like this.
10:28I love it, man.
10:29Keep your feet underneath you.
10:30And I think that's one of the best parts of my game,
10:32is manipulating the pocket and being able to move around.
10:35Let's make a note about concepts.
10:37There's going to be concepts that you love that are in your wheelhouse.
10:41There's going to be concepts that you just, you've got to be honest with the coach.
10:48You've got to be honest with me.
10:49Hey, I don't like that.
10:51Don't be a bobblehead quarterback.
10:53What's a bobblehead?
10:54Yes, sir.
10:55Yeah, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it.
10:57No, I don't like that fucking play.
10:59Let's talk about trips.
11:00Let's get moving now.
11:01We've got to move fast here.
11:02We only have 15 minutes or the NCAA or the NFLPA will find me.
11:07You're a big trips guy at Ohio State.
11:09Yep.
11:10This one here against Tennessee.
11:11What did you guys call this three-receiver concept?
11:13We were running crash, so it's our three-by-one four-verse concept.
11:15Does that all go special for me?
11:17Yep.
11:18And you love this against three-deep, don't you?
11:19Absolutely.
11:20And what the hell is Tennessee playing here?
11:22This was their six-opposite coverage.
11:24So they're clouding the field, and then this boundary safety is just an eyes guy.
11:27So I just stared him down, see what he's doing.
11:29If his eyes are on me, man, he's wide open.
11:32Okay, you called it crash.
11:33Yep.
11:34Now this is a play you're going to teach me.
11:36This is what I call broom.
11:38I wanted a double move on the outside, and we had a little under-return on the inside,
11:43and we had number three run a post to occupy the free safety.
11:47Northwestern right here.
11:48Yeah.
11:49Hell yeah.
11:50Okay, so take me through this.
11:51This is kind of like the silencer play against Northwestern.
11:54Oh, yeah.
11:55Send her ass home, man.
11:57Are you guys playing on a high school dirt field?
11:59We're playing on Wrigley Field right here, baby.
12:01No shit.
12:02Wrigley Field.
12:03Give me the play.
12:04Draw it up there and talk to me like you're installing it, like you're with Coach Gruden.
12:08You and I are putting our offense together.
12:10You got to have this play put in.
12:12Hurry up.
12:13We don't have a lot of time.
12:14Trio right, 0-63, pump shallow right here.
12:16All right, so we got trio right, wise off, H.
12:20We went H was our slot guy, and that T was our tailback.
12:23So we're going pump shallow right here.
12:25So our Y is running a middle read, 12 yards.
12:28If it's any sort of middle close coverage, he's breaking it in at 12.
12:32Any sort of middle field open, he's taking the middle.
12:34Our H is running that return route.
12:36So these guys in our normal shallow, they'd have double in routes at 6 yards,
12:41and he's breaking this thing back out, 6 yards right here.
12:44Our Z is running a 6-yard pump shallow route.
12:48So he's just running the pump route all the way.
12:51He's giving that move at 6 yards, and he's working that.
12:53And then backside, we just got an X isolation.
12:56This week, we could change it, but it was a 10-yard lose out.
12:59We were doing this versus Northwestern because we knew they were sometimes
13:02sort of a cover three team, and we wanted to throw this.
13:05Then our O route, he's checking protection on 6 yards right there,
13:10right outside the tackle.
13:11That's the O.
13:12So on 0-63, pump shallow, who's the primer?
13:15How'd you read it?
13:16I mean, we're throwing this until we can.
13:18So we're saying, hey, if we get any sort of free access out to the field,
13:21we're letting that thing rip.
13:22I mean, I'm keeping my eyes on the middle field safety,
13:24making sure he's not running over top of it.
13:26I think it was quarters here, so we didn't even need to.
13:28Look at the corner jumping, man.
13:30Geez, he knew.
13:31Oh!
13:32Oh, my gosh.
13:33And this was the area of the field that we knew we could take advantage of him in.
13:36My point to you is I see a lot of concepts that I love.
13:39You're running at Ohio State already.
13:41That's got to make you feel good, doesn't it?
13:43Absolutely.
13:44Okay, now real quick, erase that thing there.
13:46Let's use a red crayon here because I like that Buckeye red.
13:49Red crayon.
13:50I like that crayon.
13:52Now, you guys believe, like I do, trips.
13:55I call it ex-isolation.
13:57Yeah.
13:58So put up the trips formation.
13:59Why you got that smile on your face?
14:01Who was the guy you isolated on the backside a lot?
14:04Number four, baby.
14:05Fucking right you do.
14:06Come on now.
14:07Strike right here, man.
14:08I love this play.
14:09Tell me about this here.
14:10We have strike up, which is basically go balls outside
14:12and then a little middle triangle.
14:14I'm throwing go routes until I can't right here.
14:16So that's my boy Kobe right there, number five.
14:18Played with him at K-State.
14:19He thinks, you know, I'm like, hey, I can't throw.
14:21I mean, I know I can still.
14:23So these are really full field reads.
14:25I mean, you got the freedom to pull the trigger whenever you like to match up.
14:28Oh, yeah.
14:29Against Notre Dame, now you had a different ex-isolation.
14:33He was running to me a 12-yard lightning route.
14:35Yep.
14:36Shallow ex-jeter is what we call this, shortstop.
14:38Double ins from outside and Mecca's running that 12-yard middle read route.
14:42So they're running, you know, kind of a follow concept
14:45and we're just isolating backside.
14:47Real quick, give me the isolation cuts that the ex has the way you see it right now.
14:51Like any routes that he can run?
14:53Yeah.
14:54You know, we could run him on a slant.
14:55Okay, go ahead.
14:56Run him on a jeter route, which is that nine-yard stop.
14:58Okay.
14:59We could run him on a loose corner route.
15:01You could take that.
15:02Cover two, you like that, right?
15:03We love doing that.
15:04Cover two, we love that.
15:05And that was probably the best route Jeremiah ran versus any sort of man.
15:09And you got the hitch, which converts, right?
15:10Yep, exactly.
15:11That's at six yards.
15:12Okay, I'll have a seat here real quick.
15:14I want you to learn these audibles from Gruden
15:17and be ready to coach these audibles out there on the field.
15:20You with me?
15:21Sir.
15:22You got three receivers on the left.
15:23If you ever feel like it's a zone pressure and it's two over three,
15:27we're checking to a brag.
15:29And a brag is a block, block, drag.
15:31The next one is cheetah.
15:33Cheetah is a one-step bullet slant by this guy.
15:37Number two is going to go pick that corner.
15:40And then he's going to run a return route in case our bullet slant gets shut out.
15:44You with me?
15:45Absolutely.
15:46This guy runs a stick nod.
15:47Okay, the next one is robin.
15:49And the only time I want robin is if we get bump and run on two and three.
15:54You with me?
15:55Yep.
15:56So he's going to run a post to take away the free safety
15:58and take away the corner.
15:59You with me?
16:00Sir.
16:01This guy is going to stutter in place, and he's swinging down the red line.
16:04And our guy here is going to pick him and run an arrow.
16:07Last couple, I want wasp.
16:09A wasp is a slant.
16:11It's a slant, and it's a flatten up.
16:14Last one is score.
16:15We'll take a leak.
16:16Now I want number three to pick for number two.
16:19You with me?
16:20Yeah.
16:21So you go pick the guy that's covering the tight end, and he'll return now.
16:25You with me?
16:26Yeah.
16:27And then out here we run a broom.
16:28Just in case someone switches it inside, we got a late outlet.
16:32Which of those five, how would you rank those based on what you saw?
16:35Now, brag is kind of for zone pressures.
16:38Right?
16:39I think I'm going probably one on the wasp.
16:42Probably going two here.
16:44I'll probably go two to the score.
16:47Three, four.
16:48Okay, good.
16:49Now you're a big dual threat quarterback, aren't you?
16:51Oh, yeah.
16:52Isn't that what you are?
16:53Damn right.
16:54Who is this?
16:55Josh Allen, man.
16:56No, it's not.
16:57It's the MVP of the league, man.
16:58MVP Josh Allen.
16:59He's a real big dual threat now.
17:01But when I look at Joshua Allen, he went to the combine.
17:05What was he?
17:066'4".
17:07What are you?
17:086'4".
17:09How much did he weigh?
17:10He's 237.
17:11You guys are the same size, man.
17:13Yeah, man.
17:14So, that's how big a guy you are.
17:16Yeah.
17:1726 career rushing touchdowns.
17:19You had an 80-yard touchdown run.
17:2171.
17:22That's like Saquon Howard.
17:26What was this thing here against?
17:28Is this TCU?
17:29Yeah, this is a counter read right here.
17:30So, we're running a little back counter.
17:32This is what Jalen Hurts runs for the Eagles.
17:34What about this against Oklahoma State?
17:36This is a big hole right here, baby.
17:37Make a little cut, and it's off to the races.
17:39This is one of my favorite plays of the season.
17:41I mean, look at all these Irishmen come after you right here.
17:44And it just opens up the back, doesn't it?
17:46Yes, sir.
17:47I mean, how the hell do people not like you as the number one quarterback in the draft?
17:51Didn't you win the national title?
17:53Yeah, man.
17:54What do you got to do?
17:56You're 6'5".
17:57You're like a young Josh Allen.
17:59Yeah, man.
18:00Let me hear your snap count at Ohio State.
18:02Hurry up.
18:03All right, move.
18:04Wide 80.
18:05Wide 80's hunt.
18:06Good.
18:07Face me.
18:08Put your hands under the table like that's the center.
18:09That's the center right there.
18:10Move.
18:11Yeah, stand up.
18:12Stand up, man.
18:13Let me fucking feel it.
18:14Let me feel it.
18:15I got you.
18:16Yeah, let me feel it.
18:17Move.
18:18Wide 80.
18:19Wide 80's hunt.
18:20Perfect.
18:21You're going to be great.
18:22Have a seat.
18:23Our snap count we're using, the first thing we do is set hut.
18:24Nice and easy.
18:25Set hut.
18:26It lets our guys know we're going.
18:27Set hut.
18:28And it's color number, color number, set hut again.
18:30Set hut.
18:31Blue 85.
18:33Now when we get to the second color number,
18:35you're basically telling your guys we're going to roll right into set hut.
18:38We're going.
18:39So it's set hut.
18:40Blue 85.
18:41Blue 85.
18:43Set hut.
18:44Now we can speed it up or slow it down.
18:46If you've got a dumbass like me calling plays and I'm like,
18:4812, 12, no, 11, 11, no, 12.
18:50Let's go back to 21, 21.
18:52You get it in late.
18:53Yeah.
18:54Hey, hurry up.
18:55Set hut.
18:56Blue 85.
18:57Blue 85.
18:58Set hut.
18:59You with me?
19:00Yeah.
19:01Blue 85.
19:02Blue 85.
19:03Set hut.
19:04Perfect.
19:05Absolutely perfect.
19:06Now don't change the sequence the next time.
19:08Like when we had Randall Cunningham in Philly,
19:10Randall would go, turquoise 27.
19:13He had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
19:16Next series he'd go up there, he'd go, aqua 88.
19:19I'd say, Randall, what the hell is that color?
19:22I don't even know what lavender 19 is.
19:24Now if we want a hard count, it sounds exactly like you're going on one.
19:29Set hut.
19:30Set hut.
19:31Blue 85.
19:32Blue 85.
19:34Set hut.
19:35Hut.
19:36Set hut.
19:37Blue 85.
19:38Blue 85.
19:39Set hut.
19:40Hut.
19:41Perfect.
19:42I love you.
19:43Excellent.
19:44Excellent.
19:45Now Silva, write down S-I-L-V-A.
19:46Hurry up.
19:47S-I-L-V-A.
19:48Silver.
19:49Silver and black.
19:50That's the Raiders.
19:51Al Davis never said silver.
19:52He said Silva.
19:53The silver and black will kick your ass.
19:54He had a Brooklyn background.
19:56So let's just say we're audibleing.
19:58Yeah.
19:59Set hut.
20:00Blue 85.
20:01Ho, ho, ho, ho.
20:02Let's go 358 cannon.
20:04358 cannon.
20:06Silva, Silva, set hut.
20:08That allows us to just get on with it.
20:10Like Peyton Manning used Omaha, right?
20:12Right.
20:13We're using Silva, Silva.
20:14Now I taught you five trips hand signals a minute ago.
20:17Yeah.
20:18What are three of them right now that you like?
20:20Robin, Wasp, and Bragg.
20:21Okay, good.
20:22Now instead of calling plays, I would call formations.
20:25So we would go with a no huddle offense.
20:28We use Freddy, Freddy, both fists together.
20:30So if we went Freddy, Freddy, Freddy, we might have a one-word play.
20:33Boom, turbo tempo.
20:35But normally, we would load a formation.
20:38And I would give the quarterback four plays.
20:40Snug is the formation.
20:43Snug right or snug left.
20:45We'll be in snug right today.
20:47The Z is in a three-yard split.
20:49The X is in a three-yard split.
20:50You with me?
20:51Sir.
20:52The Y is off the ball and the F is off the ball.
20:54You see that?
20:55Yes, sir.
20:56So we're going to put the Y way out here.
20:58We're going to say, Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
21:02That tight end is going to get out there and show you, basically,
21:06if it's man or zone.
21:07And you're going to start yelling out Bill Gates or Bill Walsh
21:12or Albert Einstein or a fucking John Gruden.
21:16Hey, Freddy, snug right shorty, John Gruden.
21:19Yeah.
21:20Set hut.
21:21Bang L.
21:22Blue 85.
21:23Blue 85, set hut.
21:24And the whole thing you're doing is you're recognizing the defense.
21:28You're listening to their calls.
21:30Because these dumbass defensive guys, sky, sky, sky, right?
21:35They have words.
21:36Then we come over to the sidelines and we communicate.
21:39We shred their ass.
21:41If you know it's man to man and you're not worried about a five-man protection,
21:46I want you to go to 82 Cowboy Pass.
21:49Do you love that if you know it's man?
21:50Yeah.
21:51No, you love it or like it?
21:52I fucking love it.
21:53Fucking right you do.
21:54Now, if it's cover three, I don't want to get the cowboy.
21:58I want you to go to 82 Sailor.
22:00And that's why sail.
22:02You got me?
22:03Yeah.
22:04Now, if it's split safety, because I don't know if it's four deep, three under.
22:07I don't know if it's Tampa two.
22:09I want an all-purpose split safety beater.
22:12We're going to Yahoo.
22:13Yahoo.
22:14And our protection was 72 if we're in the right formation,
22:19because the back always flows weak.
22:21You got me?
22:22Now, if we get a blitz, let's get the 200 Jet Omaha,
22:27which are our quick outs and stick outs.
22:29Yep.
22:30So stand up real quick.
22:31Hey, well, well, well, let's go, Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
22:34We got Freddy, snug right shorty.
22:35It's Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
22:37Use the dummy count.
22:38Here we go.
22:39Blue 85.
22:42Blue 85.
22:43It's cover three, cover three.
22:45We got 82 Sailor, 82 Sailor, 82 Sailor.
22:50Okay, good.
22:51Now, after you go 82 Sailor, you could just say Silva, Silva.
22:55Yeah, yeah.
22:56Because I want you to feel like you have 40 seconds to snap the ball.
23:02You with me?
23:03And we're using a no-huddle offense,
23:05so you really have 27 to 28 seconds to research the defense.
23:11And you're really looking and listening.
23:13You got to be an actor while you're recognizing the defense.
23:16You with me?
23:17Yeah.
23:18So Freddy, Freddy, I'll be you.
23:19Hey, Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
23:22Hurry up.
23:23Snug right shorty.
23:25Bill Gates.
23:26Hey, bang L, bang L.
23:27Blue 85.
23:29Blue 85.
23:30Say hut.
23:31Chevron, New York.
23:32Let's go.
23:3382 Sailor, 82 Sailor.
23:35Silva, Silva.
23:36Say hut.
23:37Now you feel me?
23:38Yeah.
23:39Okay.
23:40Oh, I feel you.
23:41So you're going to be fucking exhausted at the end of every practice,
23:43at the end of every game because you're like a Terminator.
23:46Yeah.
23:47I mean, I got to find it.
23:48I got to find a 72 Yahoo for Darren Waller.
23:50Yeah.
23:51I got to find an 82 Cowboy pass for Jeremiah Smith.
23:54Damn right.
23:55But you're in a mission, man, of destruction.
23:58Let's go, Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
23:59Hurry up.
24:00Hey, hey, we got Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
24:02Freddy, Freddy, snug right shorty.
24:04Hey, Albert Einstein.
24:05Albert Einstein.
24:06Hey, say hut.
24:08Blue 85.
24:09Hey, bang L.
24:10Blue 85.
24:11Say hut.
24:12Cover three.
24:13Hey, cover three.
24:14Hey.
24:15Kanyak, Kanyak, Kanyak.
24:17Hey, we got 82 Sailor.
24:18Hey, just want the cover too.
24:19They just want the cover too.
24:20Hey, easy, easy.
24:21Hey, we got 72 Yahoo.
24:2272 Yahoo.
24:23Silva, Silva.
24:25Say hut.
24:26You like it or love it?
24:27I love it.
24:28Okay, have a seat.
24:29Good.
24:30So now, instead of me calling one play, hoping I'm right.
24:32Yeah.
24:33Gee, I hope I get man-to-man on this 82 Cowboy.
24:36Fuck it.
24:37You don't like it?
24:38Get to something else.
24:39Shit, I had a coach come in here one time.
24:40He goes, hey, how come you guys always get so lucky?
24:43You always have man-to-man on your Cowboy pass.
24:46How come you guys always get a split safety on your choice route?
24:49Yeah.
24:50What do you think we are, fucking idiots?
24:52We're working our ass off here.
24:54I love your passing stroke.
24:57I mean, that ball comes up and out.
24:59Tell me about how you throw the ball real quick.
25:01Stand up.
25:02Show me your motion.
25:03Teach a young quarterback how you get the ball up and out so quick.
25:07Yeah, man, I think it's big on you're not really thinking about really what you're doing with your upper body.
25:11It's more just you're kind of trusting your stroke.
25:13It's really with that lower body.
25:14You want that front foot to get down really, really quick.
25:16You want to stay connected to the ground.
25:18With that back foot, you want to just twist over it.
25:20Dissociate your shoulders a little bit.
25:22You're coming through.
25:23There shouldn't be much coming down with it.
25:25It's a lot of C.
25:26You're just kind of bringing it up and coming through like that.
25:29The two things I think about are getting my foot down quick and snapping that thing out
25:34and getting my release point out in front of my forehead.
25:38I can just tell guys when I meet them, like you, they have a presence about them.
25:43You see what I'm saying?
25:44I need that, man.
25:45I want the owner to come to practice and go, hey, there's our first-round draft choice, Will Howard.
25:50Why don't you come and watch him practice?
25:52I don't want a dull, I don't want some dipshit playing quarterback.
25:58Now, the other thing is I love about you, make a note, no-step throws.
26:02This might be the best thing that you do at Ohio State.
26:05This is great under fire, but watch.
26:08See the no-step?
26:10Fuck, is that awesome.
26:12I'll tell you something right here.
26:13He's his quarterback right here?
26:14Yeah.
26:15That's some bitch.
26:16That's first-round pick right here.
26:17That's big time, big time.
26:19That's one of the great throws I've seen.
26:21But you've been doing this for a long time.
26:23See the no-step?
26:24Sir.
26:25Now, let's go to this game at Oregon.
26:26Yeah.
26:27Take me down to this last play here where you took off and ran and the clock ran out.
26:30In my mind, before this play, they're telling me we need 15 yards for the kicker.
26:34They dropped into coverage.
26:35The only thing that I could have taken was probably that flat route.
26:38It would have been about six yards, but I'm like, I can't do that.
26:40I've got to get more yards.
26:41Looking back at it, what I learned from this, man, is at the end of the day, I've got to give my team a chance.
26:45Every single Wednesday from there on out, we did the same exact two-minute drill situation.
26:50As hard as it was in this moment, man, I think coming back and beating them in that Rose Bowl, all the more sweeter.
26:55That flight home was tough.
26:56Now you've got to go to Penn State.
26:58And you're from Pennsylvania.
27:00They didn't recruit you.
27:01Your sister goes to Penn State, man.
27:03Dad went there.
27:04You talk about pressure.
27:06You lose this game, you're out, man.
27:08You guys are out.
27:09But this opening pass, this pick six, you've got to be like, holy shit.
27:15No way.
27:16Tell me about it.
27:17Did they fool you?
27:18You thought they were going to carry coverage?
27:19What happened?
27:20They got me a little bit on this one, so they ran this kind of cone coverage.
27:23It's like a cloud, you know, kind of cone coverage.
27:25He fooled me.
27:26I thought he was going to carry number two, vertical two.
27:27I did too.
27:28Yeah.
27:29I mean, you know, things happen.
27:30And I remember I came back to the sideline, and nobody said a word to me because they knew I would be fine.
27:34You know, our offense, we didn't play great, but we did what we had to do when we had to do it.
27:38And my favorite part of this game was our four-minute drill.
27:41Oh, we'll get to it.
27:42Five minutes.
27:44What was that celebration you did at Kansas State?
27:47The little beer shot.
27:49Look at Carter.
27:50He's breaking you over his fucking leg.
27:52Boom, boom.
27:54Look at how excited he is.
27:56Listen, we cannot let these great pass rushers feel this good.
28:00Yeah.
28:01Because when they start feeling it, one becomes two.
28:04We played against Derek Thomas of the Chiefs one year.
28:06My first game as a head coach, he got our quarterback six times.
28:09I thought Al Davis was going to throw me out of the fucking airplane.
28:12Now, fourth and one, what were you, shitting bricks right here coming out to your left?
28:16No, I was ready.
28:17I was ready, man.
28:18Fourth and one, it don't matter.
28:19We've never once thrown this route on this concept.
28:22Jeremiah's triple teamed, and our flat was doubled.
28:25You never threw that in your life?
28:26Nope.
28:27Never once.
28:28That's like Josh Allen.
28:29Yeah.
28:30You know, that's what happens with my homes.
28:31You know, we got them covered.
28:33We got them stopped.
28:34Yeah.
28:35We got a clean guy in his face, and they beat us anyways.
28:38Yeah.
28:39And that's the kind of shit I expect from you.
28:40You understand?
28:41Yes, sir.
28:42Now, the four-minute drill's different than the two-minute drill.
28:44When I say it's the four-minute drill, what am I talking about?
28:47We're up.
28:48We got the ball, and we're trying to take as much clock as we possibly can.
28:51We're ahead 20 to 13 with five minutes left.
28:54And we are on our one-inch line at Penn State.
28:58They never wanted you, did they?
29:00No, they didn't.
29:01You're going to run this damn clock all the way out.
29:03Look at Day's reaction, man.
29:04Oh, he's fired up.
29:05Look at him.
29:06Fuckin' A!
29:07I mean, that is five minutes.
29:09You run the clock out, kick their ass.
29:11That turned the whole season around, didn't it?
29:13It did.
29:14It really did.
29:15You're feeling pretty nicey right here, aren't you?
29:16God, man.
29:17You ever see the thing, Nicey?
29:18Feeling pretty nicey, man.
29:19You like that, don't you?
29:20I love that shit.
29:21Will Howard has me feeling nicey!
29:23And then this game, real quick.
29:25Yeah.
29:26These guys, look at these guys.
29:27That looks like Dave Portnoy right there.
29:28Yeah.
29:29What was the tone now?
29:31I mean, do you think the season's over?
29:33Like, that's it?
29:34The thing is, is that was what we clung to.
29:37Is that we still had shit to play for.
29:40And in this moment, man, it didn't feel like it.
29:42You know, it felt like the world's kind of collapsing around you.
29:45And, you know, everybody's hating you.
29:47And the reason, you know, you come to Ohio State is to beat that team up north, man.
29:51It was tough.
29:52And we had a players-only meeting that next week.
29:54And we basically said, like, we still have the national championship.
29:57You know, obviously, it didn't end the way that, I mean, we wanted it to.
30:01And it was just fucking brutal.
30:03Brutal.
30:04You know, as much as this game hurt,
30:06the only thing that we could do was stay together and for a common purpose.
30:09And that was playing it.
30:10You got to be one mentally tough football team.
30:12Damn right.
30:13To overcome this.
30:14100%.
30:15So now the playoffs start, and here comes the Tennessee Volunteers.
30:18It's a cold night.
30:19It was.
30:20In Columbus.
30:21It was.
30:22And you see these guys come roaring out of here, the SEC,
30:25the Tennessee Vols, without their shirts.
30:28And it seemed like they were trying to intimidate you guys.
30:30Oh, yeah.
30:31Well, the funny thing is, is they came out with their shirts on,
30:33or their shirts off, and they ran over to the opposite end zone
30:36and immediately put them back on.
30:38I was like, what the fuck are these clowns doing, man?
30:40Like, at that moment, I knew we had them.
30:42Just real quick, you came out and you just ripped these guys.
30:45Oh, yeah.
30:46What was this play?
30:47So we were trying to isolate the tailback on a Will Linebacker,
30:49but they end up going to three down and dropping the D-end.
30:52So this guy has no idea what he's doing out in space.
30:54And I know I couldn't layer it too much because we had that safety over the top,
30:57so I had to kind of drill it on him.
30:59That's a great win.
31:00Yeah.
31:01I mean, beating Tennessee like that pissed me off because my wife is from Tennessee.
31:05It hurt her feelings.
31:06Yeah.
31:07But now we got to go to the Rose Bowl to play Oregon.
31:10We were going to come out.
31:11We weren't holding any bullets back, and I loved it.
31:14That first play of the game, we ran a little pump smoke route,
31:17and then G ran the little wheel route.
31:19And I thought we were going to probably run the smoke first to set it up.
31:23And he came out and he was like, no, we're running that first play of the game.
31:25Like, we're setting the tone.
31:26And I was like, fuck, yeah, let's go.
31:28Like, I love that.
31:29This is cool.
31:30Watch G.
31:31He knows his job is to take that boundary deep defender, which is the corner here.
31:34And as soon as Jeremiah sets him up for that, he just lost.
31:37Look at the tight end.
31:39He takes care of the third player on the right.
31:41But look at Jeremiah square this guy up, make him defend both sides of the cut.
31:46And this is absolutely shred.
31:49And you guys knew you had him by the nuts, didn't you?
31:52I knew going into this game that we were going to put up a ton of points.
31:55Is this the best throw you ever made at Ohio State?
31:57It's up there.
31:58I think it might be.
31:59Honestly, it's one of my favorites for sure.
32:01Dang.
32:02But wasn't it great to get redemption and kick the shit out of these guys?
32:05This one's all good.
32:06The Texas Longhorns.
32:07Yep.
32:08You're out there.
32:09What are those things?
32:10Those are my gold headphones.
32:11What are you listening to?
32:12Migos?
32:13Hey, I saw that video.
32:14Did you like that?
32:15Yeah.
32:16You like Migos?
32:17A little bit of the Migos.
32:18Hell yeah, I like the Migos.
32:19What do you listen to?
32:20I listen to a little mixture.
32:21Come on, give me the list.
32:22I'm a Drake guy.
32:23I like country music.
32:24But before games, I'm listening to Future.
32:26I'm listening to some Youngboy.
32:28Youngboy?
32:29Yeah, Youngboy.
32:30Make a note about Shoot to Thrill.
32:32Shoot to Thrill.
32:34Shoot to Thrill.
32:35A-C-D-C.
32:36Shoot to Thrill?
32:37Oh.
32:38Shoot to Thrill.
32:39Pull the trigger!
32:40Shoot to Thrill.
32:41And I love Hair of the Dog by Nazareth.
32:44What was the game plan against Texas?
32:46Anything top of mind?
32:48It was going to be more of a methodical deal.
32:50It wasn't going to be like Oregon where we were able to just hit shots, two plays, one play, touchdown.
32:55They played you like Michigan played you, didn't they?
32:57They did.
32:58They wanted to play in a simulated cover two.
33:01We knew we were going to have to slice them in some zones, be able to take our checkdowns,
33:05and checkdowns were a big emphasis.
33:06You remember the Michigan game, right?
33:08Mm-hmm.
33:09Jam with the internal blitz.
33:11Yeah.
33:12Both ends dropped.
33:13They played Tampa too.
33:14Yeah.
33:15They clouded on both outside receivers.
33:17It was a four-man rush.
33:18Seven guys in coverage with pressure.
33:20Yeah.
33:21Well, make a note of the Predator blitz.
33:22I call this the Predator.
33:24They blitzed that inside linebacker, and they dropped the opposite side in, right?
33:28They could bring an inside linebacker, or they could bring a nickel back,
33:32and drop the opposite defensive end.
33:34Just four guys are coming.
33:36So, it's 29 seconds left.
33:38You guys call a screen pass, and wouldn't you know Texas brings another Predator?
33:44Sure do.
33:45And here comes the blitz.
33:46Yeah.
33:47And watch what Henderson does.
33:48He bluffs the blitz.
33:49Now, he knows exactly who to block.
33:51It's that Predator guy coming.
33:53But he also knows it's a screen pass, so I don't want to block him because I'm the receiver.
33:57Exactly.
33:58So, he looks right at him like he's blocking him.
34:00He slips him into the flat.
34:02You make the perfect throw, and this thing goes for 80 freaking yards, man.
34:06We practiced this damn screen play so many times and never ran it.
34:10Never.
34:11Like, this is our first time running it.
34:12Oh, boy.
34:13What was this here?
34:14What are you doing here?
34:16You know, I had to have a little fun with the boys after the game.
34:19But, you know, your performance in four playoff games, completing 75%, almost 1,200 yards,
34:24and now you got Notre Dame coming in here.
34:26What was the Notre Dame game plan?
34:28What do you remember the most about the preparation for the Fighting Irish?
34:31The biggest thing was we knew they were a man team at their core, but we had a ton of, like, built-in alerts for zone.
34:38You start the game with 13 straight completions, man.
34:40You guys knew what they were in.
34:42We knew.
34:43Did Chip Kelly, did Coach Day tell you to use your legs more in this game?
34:47Oh, yeah.
34:48In this game, Coach Day was like, you're going to need to go win the game with your legs.
34:51I mean, this was your Josh Allen game.
34:53Yep.
34:54I mean, where you really did a number on Notre Dame with your legs.
34:57I mean, this is a direct quarterback power play, right?
34:59Big game.
35:00And then this one right here, a bootleg.
35:01You were able to move the pocket.
35:03Yeah.
35:04But what I loved was this play right here.
35:05So this is dose left 073 grill.
35:08And grill is just saying we got go balls outside and the Meccas running a middle read inside.
35:12And then just put the ball 42 yards on the red line, man, and let number four be number four.
35:16And it's a good scan by Henderson.
35:18He stuffs the linebacker and this ball is thrown perfectly.
35:21You did what you set out to do, didn't you?
35:23Yeah, man.
35:24And when Coach Day, you know, when he came and met with me, he said,
35:27I believe that you can be the guy that can lead us to a national title.
35:30And I said, you know, I'm not going to let you down.
35:32I love being the underdog and kind of, you know, when people don't expect me to, you know,
35:37to go out and do things, I do it, you know.
35:39And I think that's kind of the story of me in the draft this year.
35:42You know, I wouldn't rather, you know, be in any other place than where I'm at.
35:46You know, kind of the come from behind guy, you know,
35:49hopefully sneak up on some people and just keep rising.
35:52You have fun today?
35:53Hell yeah.
35:54Let's go throw something.
35:55Let's do it.
35:56Let's do it.
35:58The Chevy Silverado, man, kind of reminds me of Will Howard, big Silverado.
36:10He's a strong, physical dude.
36:12I know he can really rip it.
36:14It's one thing to watch these guys throw on film, but it's another thing to see him throw it live.
36:19But it's another thing to see him throw it live
36:21I think a couple of these drills are really gonna help these guys get better and if they can get 1% better
36:28Man, it makes me feel nice
36:30Very nice. Very nice.
36:50Snatch it. Pluck it and tuck it.
36:52Pluck it and tuck it. I like that.
36:54You like that? I like that.
36:56Rip it and rip it.
36:58Right here, Will. Five yard line. I want to run a nice high corner at the back pylon of the end zone.
37:03Set.
37:07Beauty. Set.
37:12Set.
37:13You're like a fucking jugs machine, aren't you? Damn right.
37:15Let's get those no lace balls.
37:17See, these balls got no laces.
37:19So this ain't gonna be easy.
37:21I want to go real quick. Left to right.
37:23I'm gonna be feeding you these pretty quick.
37:25Three in a row. Set.
37:26Ready, Sutton?
37:32Good. Alright, good.
37:33Ready, Sutton?
37:39Very nice. Good.
37:40One step bullet slant from the outside.
37:42Silva, Silva, Sutton.
37:45Love that. Good.
37:46One more time to your right.
37:47Silva, Silva, Sutton.
37:50Good. Get rid of these balls. Let's get the real deal here.
37:52We need those bags. Can we bring those bags out?
37:54Wide saddle drill.
37:56Go ahead. Go left. Go right. Go left.
38:00When I point my hands to you and you start clapping your hands, give it to him.
38:05You guys with me?
38:06As soon as somebody starts clapping their hands, clap them emphatically.
38:11He's gonna get it to you.
38:18Good. Let's go.
38:22Nice.
38:26Come on, Will.
38:27Come on, Will.

38:41Good. Alright, good.
38:42Good shit right there.
38:43Good.
38:44FFCA, what's that stand for?
38:45What we need is Fired Football Coaches Association.
38:48Now, what I want to do this time is let's start underneath the center.
38:51When I clap my hands, that ball's gone.
38:53Yep.
38:54Silver, Silver, Saladon.
38:55That way.
38:57Good. Good. Good.
39:00Silver, Silver, Saladon.
