New figures from West Yorkshire Police have revealed the most shoplifted areas of Leeds.

00:00A scourge for shop owners that doesn't seem to be stopping.
00:03Shoplifting is still commonplace across the country,
00:07and new data from West Yorkshire Police has highlighted the shoplifting hot spots of Leeds
00:12which not too surprisingly include areas of the city which have the most retail outlets.
00:18The figures have been broken down by middle super output area neighbourhoods,
00:23which usually include around 2,000 to 6,000 households
00:27and focus on the March 2024 to February 2025 time frame.
00:32Leeds city centre saw the most reports of shoplifting,
00:35with 3,149 offences reported to police.
00:40In second is Cherwell, the boundary of which covers the White Rose Shopping Centre,
00:44which reported 486 offences.
00:48In third is Crossgates West and Killingbeck with 390 offences,
00:52and Farsley South, Stanningley and Pudsey North West also recorded 390.
00:58Morley Central recorded 350 offences, with Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Park recording 319.
01:05Harehill South, Bramley Park South and Swarecliff were next on the list,
01:09with Yeadon West in tenth.
01:11Some of the possible reasons for shoplifting were discussed by Leeds locals a few months back.
01:23people and it's just finding that you know the right direction to go into if you're
01:28robbing from a local business then shame on you because they're just trying to make money but
01:32the cost of living crisis is actually insane because you've got like single parents out
01:37here claiming less and less benefits each year because it's all going just
01:40getting spent on wars it could be getting spent on schools for nhs funds
