Nach seinem Filmerfolg Acht Berge kehrt Paolo Cognetti in seiner Dokumentation Fiore Mio in die Höhe zurück. Im Sommer 2022 durchlebt Italien eine Dürre und auch die Quelle am Haus der Regisseur, im kleinen Dorf Estoul am Fuß des Bergs Monte Rosa, versiegt. Daraufhin begibt er sich auf eine Reise durch das geliebte Gebirge, dessen aktuelle Landschaft dazu bestimmt ist, für immer zu verschwinden.
