00:00During the time of Magsican, the revolutionary forces in Cavite were attacked. They had a fight and during that time, the Rizal family was also there.
00:14Josephine Bracken was also there and she suggested that Casa Hacienda de Tejeros should be made a hospital of the Katipunan as well.
00:22Wow, that's very interesting. I didn't know that Jose Rizal's family had a connection. Who had just been executed four months before, three months before, December 30, 1896.
00:36Because the Tejeros Convention happened in March 1897. And as you said, Josephine Bracken was also there. She was there at that time?
00:48Yes.
00:49She's not even mentioned in a lot of the accounts of the Tejeros Convention that there is this connection to Rizal, which is significant because Rizal, of course, inspired Bonifacio and many of the revolutionaries.
01:03I'm now remembering the sources. So apparently, there are some people who really planned this as an election, even if the agenda was to define what is Katipunan leadership.
01:18But of course, if we're going to redefine what is the Katipunan leadership, what kind of government do we have?
01:25That was the first debate. That's why it took a long time. Earlier in the day, they were discussing, are we a republic? Are we a monarchy? Are you a king?
01:39Of course, what Bonifacio said is that we are the letter K in the Katipunan, the letter K, baybayin, symbolizing freedom.
01:52Then someone said, even if we're a monarchy, we can be free. So eventually, Bonifacio retracted and said, if that's the case, we are a republic.
02:02So it's like they're trading. It means if we're a republic, this is not the right setup. So it's a discussion, discussion.
02:12They are fighting so much. These Rizal brothers, the Katipunan girls, Josefa, Trining, etc., and then there's Josephine Bracken,
02:23they were already saying to the people, what are you waiting for? Let's have a timeout. That's their role. Their role is very important.
