00:00:00Let's go.
00:00:14As humans, we doubt ourselves.
00:00:16It's part of who we are.
00:00:18Feel our pain.
00:00:19We work hard.
00:00:20Because on the road to success, you'll ask yourself, am I doing this right?
00:00:26Let's go.
00:00:28I was told I wasn't good enough and that I was never going to make it.
00:00:31There have been times that I thought about quitting.
00:00:34I was told that I'm silly to chase this dream.
00:00:41But then there comes a time when you face your fears.
00:00:45Rise to the challenge.
00:00:48And tell yourself, this is what I was born to do.
00:00:53Because this, this, this,
00:00:57has to be a showstopper.
00:01:05I have full body chills.
00:01:10That was the greatest performance I have ever seen.
00:01:15You took us on an epic rollercoaster ride.
00:01:22I am good enough.
00:01:25I am good enough.
00:01:31I'm sorry.
00:01:33First to take the Idol stage is Fast Food director, Victor Solomon.
00:01:37It's not easy to be the first one.
00:01:39That's my boy!
00:01:41So I will be singing In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins.
00:01:44I can relate to the song.
00:01:46I've been waiting for this moment all my life.
00:01:49I have been in L.A. for two years.
00:01:51Pursuing my dreams.
00:01:52Didn't have a lot of money on my account.
00:01:54And, you know, it wasn't easy.
00:01:56What I realize most is that resilience is everything.
00:02:02Did you come to have a good time tonight?
00:02:05There we go.
00:02:07I know the pressure is high.
00:02:08I know the expectations are high.
00:02:09After that part, I don't know what's going on.
00:02:11All my life, oh Lord.
00:02:13Can we just go straight to the one?
00:02:14And everybody like, Phil, I'm on one.
00:02:16And the dreams kind of just give me so much in life.
00:02:18Oh, so don't do those last changes.
00:02:21There's truly nothing like performing in front of a live audience.
00:02:24When we're on stage and I see the lights,
00:02:26I hear the sound of the band,
00:02:27I hear the cheering of the crowd.
00:02:30Everything stops.
00:02:35And I just know that in that moment,
00:02:37the nerves turn off and the savage turns on.
00:02:44I can feel it coming in the air tonight.
00:02:50Oh Lord.
00:02:54And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life.
00:03:00Oh Lord.
00:03:04Can you feel it coming in the air tonight?
00:03:10I love this choice.
00:03:13Oh Lord.
00:03:16Well, I was there and I saw what you did.
00:03:22I saw it with my own two eyes.
00:03:26Well, you can wipe off that grin.
00:03:30I know where you've been.
00:03:32It's all been a pack of lies.
00:03:38I can feel it coming in the air tonight.
00:03:45Oh Lord.
00:03:50And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life.
00:03:56Oh Lord.
00:04:00I can feel it.
00:04:02Can you feel it?
00:04:05And I've been waiting.
00:04:07I've been waiting for this moment in the air.
00:04:14In the air.
00:04:20Oh Lord.
00:04:33Victor will now wait until the end of the night
00:04:36when the judges announce who they've picked to move on.
00:04:44Oh my gosh, that was crazy.
00:04:47Oh, that was crazy.
00:04:48That was crazy.
00:04:49Oh my goodness.
00:04:50Somebody was practicing in front of his mirror last night.
00:04:54I hope that the judges were able to see a different layer of me.
00:04:57I wanted to continue to stretch myself and experience new things.
00:05:01So that's what I hope that the judges saw tonight.
00:05:03That was fantastic.
00:05:05The arrangement, like totally.
00:05:07The performance, you've got to pull that off.
00:05:09The performance, you've got to pull that off.
00:05:11I am so prayerful and hopeful.
00:05:13That's a nice performance.
00:05:14Got me a spot in top 24.
00:05:17Let me process that one.
00:05:19With the round off to a strong start,
00:05:21our youngest singer is hoping she can continue finding her place in the competition.
00:05:26The arena was like insane.
00:05:28Like everyone's so good.
00:05:34It does make me feel a little bit intimidated to know there's competition.
00:05:38It's going to be hard.
00:05:39All I can do is do the best I can and hope for the best.
00:05:45It's hard to find my place sometimes because I have 12 siblings.
00:05:49We're all so different and no one else is into the stuff that I'm into.
00:05:53Sometimes I do feel a lot of self-doubt and I'm not enough, not pretty enough,
00:05:59not good at singing enough.
00:06:01But in the end, I just remember that I am who I am
00:06:05and there's nothing I can do to change that.
00:06:09This is the first time I feel like I actually belong somewhere
00:06:13and I'm meant to be somewhere.
00:06:14And it's just really nice to have that feeling.
00:06:22My name is Maddie Piritt and I'm going to be singing
00:06:24This Is A Man's World by James Brown.
00:06:26Wow!
00:06:28I'm loving it.
00:06:29I picked this song because I want to show them that I can make a song my own.
00:06:34I want to show them that I'm an artist,
00:06:36not just a singer.
00:06:40You got this!
00:06:5415 years old.
00:07:03Bring us down, bring us down.
00:07:06Oh, baby!
00:07:36And man made electric light
00:07:42To take us out of the dark
00:07:45And man made a boat full of water
00:07:50Like Noah made the ark
00:07:53This is a man, a man, a man
00:08:01But it would be nothing without a woman or a girl
00:08:10This is a man's world
00:08:16But it would be nothing
00:08:22Without a woman or a girl
00:08:32Thank you, guys.
00:08:35Have a good night!
00:08:3615.
00:08:3815.
00:08:39She's 15.
00:08:4015.
00:08:45I feel like it's pretty cool to be the youngest in the competition.
00:08:48I feel like I did as much as I could.
00:08:50I think I'm pretty good and I'm feeling great about it.
00:08:53She's probably a massive star.
00:08:55Like, like sneaky star.
00:08:58I'm with you.
00:08:59It would be amazing to just, you know, be the next American Idol, you know?
00:09:02I want to make it as far as I can.
00:09:05We just got a show right there.
00:09:06Dang!
00:09:07Dang!
00:09:11I love you, baby!
00:09:12While Maddie impressed the judges with her show-stopping performance,
00:09:15platinum ticket winner Colby is feeling the pressure of the competition.
00:09:19It'll get hot, it'll get warm with this round because this time I am competing.
00:09:23It's no longer watching.
00:09:25I got to get my head in the game like everybody else.
00:09:27Nice to meet you, Colby Jordan.
00:09:29Being a platinum ticket holder, it's definitely heavy.
00:09:32It's heavy and it's definitely sort of hovering over my head,
00:09:36but the judges gave it to me for a reason,
00:09:39so I just have to prove why they gave it to me.
00:09:41But also, I am sick, battling sinuses and allergies.
00:09:45I think that's the added pressure.
00:09:58Okay, cool.
00:09:59So we know where you went, because I know exactly what you did.
00:10:03That right there, you went to, like, the record.
00:10:06And we didn't follow you, so now we're going to follow you.
00:10:08Okay.
00:10:09Just give me one second.
00:10:10Sure.
00:10:11Can we talk them through this?
00:10:12Absolutely.
00:10:13I'm going to talk you through it.
00:10:14Sure.
00:10:15So at 18, she's going to the record, which cuts out two bars, right?
00:10:18Can you hold on?
00:10:19Hold on, let me turn it off.
00:10:20Yeah.
00:10:21The rehearsal, it wasn't quite what I wanted.
00:10:24Just the tempo of the song, and just how fast it is,
00:10:27and trying to keep up, and some of the cadences are a little different.
00:10:31But we'll make it work.
00:10:32No matter what happens, just keep going.
00:10:34If we do this tonight, and you go left,
00:10:36it'll take us a second to see you going left,
00:10:38but then we'll get to you.
00:10:39Gotcha.
00:10:40Okay.
00:10:42It is a huge performance.
00:10:43I am nervous.
00:10:44And now it's like, okay, game time.
00:10:46Whoa!
00:10:48Come on, baby.
00:10:49Come on.
00:10:50Come on, baby.
00:10:51The game had on us.
00:10:52No more looking pretty in the balcony and watching everybody.
00:10:55Now I got to get up there and do what I do.
00:10:57I want the nerves to fly away,
00:11:01and I want to get up there and remind the judges and myself
00:11:05why I got that platinum ticket.
00:11:07Come on, baby.
00:11:08Come on, come on, girl.
00:11:10Hey, guys.
00:11:13Let's listen to Tina Turner, Riverdeep Mountain High.
00:11:20Come on, girl.
00:11:25When I was a kid
00:11:33When I was a little girl
00:12:04Ooh, I love you, my oh my
00:12:11If I knew mountain high
00:12:17If I lost you, would I cry
00:12:23Oh, how I love you, baby
00:12:26Baby, baby, baby
00:12:29Ooh, yeah
00:12:35And I love you, baby
00:12:37Like a rock and roll single
00:12:41Oh, yeah
00:12:47Ooh, I love you, my oh my
00:12:53Oh, how I love you, baby
00:12:56Baby, baby, baby
00:13:04Whoo!
00:13:05I don't know where all
00:13:06those notes went.
00:13:10I feel the added pressure
00:13:12because I was not very satisfied
00:13:15with my performance.
00:13:16I'm glad notes could come out.
00:13:18You know, I think the band,
00:13:21she was a little worried
00:13:22about her cues a little too much.
00:13:24Yeah.
00:13:25There was a whole lot going on.
00:13:27The competition does start now
00:13:29for me.
00:13:30I want to make it so badly
00:13:31to the top 24,
00:13:32so I hope they give me
00:13:33that opportunity.
00:13:35While Colby waits
00:13:36to learn her fate,
00:13:37high school student Isaiah
00:13:39steps into his biggest
00:13:40spotlight yet.
00:13:42This is Isaiah Misa El Agalu!
00:13:48Something's got a hold
00:13:49on me lately
00:13:52Ooh, I don't know myself
00:13:54I've only been performing
00:13:55in front of people
00:13:56for about 3, 4 months.
00:13:59I've never performed
00:14:00on a stage like this
00:14:02with a big band like this.
00:14:04I'm going to be singing
00:14:05What Hurts the Most
00:14:06by Rascal Flatts.
00:14:07Wow!
00:14:08So I picked this country song
00:14:09because I feel like
00:14:10I can showcase how I can
00:14:12kind of take a song
00:14:13and flip it to my own style.
00:14:14So you know, it's not going
00:14:15to be country all the way.
00:14:17You know, it's going to be
00:14:18a Samoan Silk style,
00:14:19if you will.
00:14:20I am definitely taking a risk
00:14:21with this song.
00:14:22The nerves were hitting me
00:14:23all at once,
00:14:24so I was definitely
00:14:25losing my vocals.
00:14:30That falsetto just hit it.
00:14:32Yeah.
00:14:33Yeah, you kind of like...
00:14:34Yeah, I know.
00:14:35What do you think
00:14:36about lowering the key?
00:14:38Uh...
00:14:39Do you want to try it?
00:14:41You should decide
00:14:42sooner rather than later
00:14:43because we have to
00:14:44let the band know.
00:14:45Right.
00:14:46For the showstopper round,
00:14:47I have to hit every note.
00:14:48Everything's just
00:14:49going to have to be perfect.
00:14:50And if it's lowering the key,
00:14:51then that's what it has to be.
00:15:19So simple.
00:15:20So good.
00:15:50What could have been
00:15:54And not seeing that loving you
00:15:58Is what I was trying to do
00:16:05Oh, yeah
00:16:14Oh, yeah
00:16:25What hurts the most
00:16:28Was being so close
00:16:32And not seeing that loving you
00:16:36Is what I was trying to do
00:16:42That was good.
00:16:47Thank you, guys.
00:16:48I love y'all, thank you.
00:17:00Regardless of the performance,
00:17:01I'm just happy to see
00:17:03all my family here today.
00:17:04It almost sounds like
00:17:05his voice might have
00:17:06been a little tired, too.
00:17:08Seeing them here in the crowd,
00:17:10You know, I just I just performed with with just so much passion, you know, knowing everybody was here supporting me
00:17:16You know, I feel so relieved of all the stress. I felt prior to the performance and just happy I get to see everybody here
00:17:29As Isaiah feels the love from his family
00:17:33Brianna reflects on the impact of hers
00:17:36Show your love coming to the stage. This is Brianna Nix
00:17:44Going into showstopper round I've been having a hard time just believing in myself
00:17:50Growing up I really doubted myself and I felt very rejected at a young age. My dad has not been in my life
00:17:57He's been in prison
00:17:59And I didn't find out until I was like 10 years old that my stepdad was not really my real dad
00:18:06It was just very
00:18:08Crushing to me. I just didn't understand why I wasn't good enough, you know for him to stay and
00:18:15So it stemmed into a whole spiral
00:18:19And when I did meet my husband
00:18:21He kind of like swooped me under his wings and he built such a big confidence in me
00:18:26He has pushed me to keep going when I wanted to give up so many different times
00:18:32For this round, I'm gonna be singing the trouble with love by Kelly Clarkson
00:18:38I'm not freaking giving up
00:18:41When I see my husband and myself in the audience, that's really gonna motivate me to just kill it
00:19:01We're selling
00:19:05To make it sound funny and you'll just want the world to see
00:19:13But like a truck that makes you blind
00:19:23It can tear you up inside
00:19:27Make your heart believe
00:19:29I
00:19:59Seems no matter what I do
00:20:20You come
00:20:29I
00:20:50Have full body
00:21:00I sing because of my son. I sing because of my family right here
00:21:03These are my whole entire world. This would change our life in so many different ways
00:21:09Tonight the remaining hopefuls will give the performance of a lifetime
00:21:14But they won't learn their fate until everyone has taken the stage
00:21:20Show stoppers is the ability for them to really set themselves apart from the pack
00:21:26Can you deal with pressure I've seen great great singers crumble during showstoppers
00:21:33When you hold your own with a band, are you ready for it?
00:21:38Are you gonna shrink or are you gonna be the lead singer?
00:21:41We'll find out
00:21:48To be on the showstopper stage, it's like whoa, I'm kind of scared right now
00:21:56I
00:22:00The little girl in me always dreamed of this point
00:22:05I'm drew Wren. This is the honor of a lifetime. I have a lot to prove
00:22:12The arena round was very intense
00:22:16Oh
00:22:19Other people perform who are all a plus talent. I got a little off my game. Why am I so nervous?
00:22:25I don't know but I mean you care. That's what I tell myself. It means I care I do
00:22:31For showstoppers, I'm singing always on my mind by Willie Nelson. This song is
00:22:38Emotional it means a lot to me. I want to stand out
00:22:42So I am going to start out my entire performance fully a cappella
00:22:48There's always a risk when you start out a cappella that you start out in the wrong key
00:22:51I had a little moment today where I was struggling and
00:22:56Now I'm panicking. I have to make sure that when the band comes in. It's just a seamless
00:23:04intro in
00:23:12Maybe I
00:23:15Didn't love you
00:23:19Heard the bone quite as often as I could
00:23:27Maybe I didn't treat you
00:23:36Quite as good as I should have
00:23:43You
00:24:06Tell me that just love hasn't died
00:24:13And
00:24:17Me
00:24:21Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied
00:24:42Oh
00:24:56You're always
00:25:12I
00:25:17Was
00:25:27That is not easy soccer Pella and for that long and then the band comes in and you're still in the right on
00:25:35right, I
00:25:37Really tried to channel the little version of me being in my room singing with my heart on my sleeve
00:25:42And I I think I did it great middle beginning
00:25:51While drew waits to learn if she secured a spot in the top 24 our next performer is determined to deliver and is dressed to
00:25:58impress
00:26:07I wish I look like that in a white suit
00:26:12My man
00:26:14I've definitely had people tell me that this music career wouldn't wouldn't go far. You won't make it out of Meridian, Mississippi
00:26:26I'm a father to two beautiful little girls harmony six and lyric three
00:26:32Being a parent and kind of do a music career. It's hard. Yeah
00:26:38H for
00:26:4110 for being a father. It's like a rollercoaster
00:26:48You get on and you keep on turning
00:26:51I love him to death when I was younger, you know, I didn't have everything I wanted but I had everything I needed
00:26:57And now raising two little girls. I just want to get them everything they want since my audition
00:27:02I purchased a home for me and my girls
00:27:07It was just a house at first I don't making it at home
00:27:17The biggest sacrifice I made and the hardest one was leaving my girls I've never been apart from them this long
00:27:24I'm doing this for them. So that's the only thing that keeps me motivated
00:27:28I'm doing Tennessee whiskey by Chris Stapleton. It's different country singer not used to it. I don't do it
00:27:34I'm stepping out of my comfort zone. He can y'all buy with me for a minute
00:27:39I'm gonna see that I have the potential to be the next American Idol. So I'm pulling out all the stocks here
00:27:45I'm doing this for my daughters. I just want to show them that whatever you put your mind to and you can achieve it
00:27:51Here we go
00:28:05Used to spend my nights out in the bar
00:28:14Live the world the only love I've known
00:28:22But you rescued me when we took from the bottom
00:28:28And told me back
00:28:31From beyond too far gone
00:28:42That's Tennessee whiskey
00:28:46You're as sweet sweet as strawberry wine
00:29:00Oh
00:29:30I
00:29:39Stay strong
00:29:50All the time
00:29:52I
00:30:07Didn't think I was gonna make it this far and look look at me. I mean, I'm here
00:30:14I'm doing this for my kids. I'm doing it. I'm doing this for my kids never
00:30:17I don't know if I don't think there's a word in the dictionary to explain how bad I was
00:30:22Missed one or two. He didn't get all the way there. Well, normally that little growly ass on top. He missed it twice
00:30:28Yeah, but it's but I know what he can do. Yeah, I just gotta wait. I hate waiting
00:30:33I don't have patience and I don't know why because I work my kids for a living
00:30:37But at this like when it comes to like this my patience is very minimal
00:30:40It's bare minimum
00:30:49Come on Cameron
00:30:55My heart has sunk down to like right here
00:31:04I'm on probably one of the biggest stages that I'll ever be on in my life
00:31:11You ever sang with a band Cameron well, this is gonna be the first official time I
00:31:18Can't believe that the judges seen it in their heart to make a little room for a little country boy from Franklin County
00:31:24But I'm grateful. You okay. How do you think you did?
00:31:30What'd you think Harry I like you
00:31:33I really do struggle with believing in myself
00:31:37It's just how I was raised because my grandpa told me that he loved me twice
00:31:43One time I was in fifth grade and the last time was before he died
00:31:53Everybody is like you can do this you can do it. I believe in you. I
00:31:57Want to come out of my shell and just just do it. Just do the damn thing. I just want to do it
00:32:07One and a girl
00:32:11Weathered it's all
00:32:15Struck to the keyhole
00:32:19That back door
00:32:23But shot
00:32:27I'm the
00:32:30Look like
00:32:33I've seen better days
00:32:41Leather and lace
00:32:45Pearls whiskey and wine the gorgeous file like you and me girl
00:32:54When you smile
00:32:58There ain't no better place
00:33:01Do you rather be
00:33:07Loving me
00:33:24You got it
00:33:27There you go, baby, yeah, it's making me look good
00:33:31I
00:33:56Feel like crap I missed afterwards
00:34:01I
00:34:05Just being there and being a part of it was pretty cool
00:34:15I know he's about to have a heart attack
00:34:19And they're not easy and playing with cues to and arrangements here they come
00:34:25This is no kidding around now we bring in a band it's gonna get professional it's gonna look professional sound professional
00:34:32And this is the first time we get to see
00:34:35What does the artist look like?
00:34:42I don't ever perform anywhere. I've done karaoke here and there but I've never performed with a band in front of anyone
00:35:02I'm
00:35:05Really nervous, but I feel like I gave it my all the band's getting them a little bit. Yeah
00:35:14I'm definitely trying to show stage presence this performance
00:35:22I cannot mess up in the bridge
00:35:31You could really tell the the site the room the crowd the band. Yeah, there's a lot on it. Yeah
00:35:39Do not be hard on yourself
00:35:46I mean the whole point of this experience is challenge after challenge, but for me, this is like a big jump
00:35:52I
00:35:59She's better than that
00:36:01I'm not happy with the vocals and I know that's purely just the the nerves, you know
00:36:06You know, I've kind of got a lot of nose written down. I'm
00:36:12Next to take the stage is Amanda Baris who is discovering a newfound confidence
00:36:17The arena was very good to me treated me very well
00:36:22I
00:36:24Could do
00:36:32No need to feel like an underdog you need to feel like a queen a diva, thank you. Thank you so much
00:36:39Go off Luke. Okay
00:36:42Coming out of the arena. I feel more confident and like I
00:36:48Deserve a spot to be here. It really breathed new life into me
00:37:00For the showstopper round I need to show the judges that I'm a performer I'm confident
00:37:06I believe in myself because if I believe it
00:37:10They'll believe it. I
00:37:12I
00:37:17Have had a lot of experience performing with a live band in front of a live audience
00:37:22That's where I feel most at home
00:37:25It brings out my alter ego
00:37:27I'm letting my hair down. I'm showing my personality a little bit more and I'm believing in myself
00:37:34There is nothing more important than this right now
00:37:42Oh
00:38:12Oh
00:38:42Oh
00:39:12Oh
00:39:28What is happening
00:39:30I
00:39:44Really just hope that the judges
00:39:47Thought that performance was good enough to put me to the next round so that I can show I have more confidence in me
00:39:54I have more performance skills and I'm ready to bring it
00:40:01We
00:40:03Can really learn a lot from this round just taking in their stage presence how comfortable they are
00:40:10Were they swallowed up in the moment or did they own the moment?
00:40:19I'm here today with my family. My ultimate dream is to be able to take care of them all through the night
00:40:26I'm definitely doing this for my family
00:40:28I feel like we have struggled so much
00:40:31Financially the place that we've been living at for the last couple of years like the rent has just been up up up and it's
00:40:37Kind of just not sustainable anymore. We're actually all moving in with my grandma really just you know fighting through life together
00:40:48This could really change everything for us I kind of have to make this work I
00:40:54Perform with bands before but this time I'm performing in front of people that are
00:41:00Doing what I've been aiming to do my entire life. There's a lot more riding on this one. Hi, my name is Desmond Roberts
00:41:06I'm gonna be singing barracuda by heart
00:41:23Oh
00:41:39For the Western
00:41:53No, no
00:42:23Oh
00:42:53Oh
00:43:11You took us on like an epic rollercoaster ride
00:43:16Just now like there were like three versions of that song that you just squished all together
00:43:23Right before
00:43:25Like one of the first high notes. I reached over here said I'm scared
00:43:28I'm scared right and then you nailed it and then you went like an octave higher than that like two seconds later
00:43:42They all just stood up and like started clapping which is the biggest compliment to get a standing ovation from the judges
00:43:47It's really validating. He had me and then he lost me with the beatbox thing
00:43:53I don't know where we're going but I don't like it
00:43:58Now if I make it through the hard part is gonna be how am I gonna top I did not see that coming
00:44:08While Desmond celebrates his nod of approval from the judges, Louisiana native John Foster hopes to do the same
00:44:16I
00:44:21Read a performance is very nerve-wracking and of course, they're gonna do one of the biggest cuts
00:44:24So I knew I had to bring my very best. They tell me that there's more to life
00:44:31Just what I can see
00:44:34Believe
00:44:40I believe
00:44:45I
00:44:49Believe
00:44:53That was a great performance you got the goods
00:45:01For the show stop around I'm singing in color by Jamie Johnson
00:45:04This song is about how pictures can show memories
00:45:08But you truly had to be there to experience them a beautiful childhood
00:45:12I mean, I have amazing parents an amazing family
00:45:14Most of the great memories that I have with my family are made in this house right here
00:45:27It's the simple things that made me into the person that I am today I
00:45:34Will need to bring some of these wonderful memories with me to Hollywood because
00:45:38Seeing so much talent under one roof is incredibly nerve-wracking. I
00:45:44Said grandpa, what's this picture here? It's all black and white
00:45:50It ain't real clear. Is that you?
00:45:53He said yeah, I was 11
00:45:59Times were tough back in 35. That's me and uncle Joe just trying to survive a cotton farm
00:46:08The Great Depression
00:46:12If it looks like we were scared to death like a couple of kids just trying to save each other
00:46:21You should have seen it
00:46:39Right there in black
00:46:46Scared to death like a couple of kids just trying to save each other
00:47:02But you can't see what those shades of gray
00:47:08They
00:47:17You should have seen it
00:47:38I
00:47:44Feel awesome man
00:47:45It was such a great time to be able to play and sing with the Idol band man
00:47:48And the crowd is just electric John can go as far as he wants to go. We're proud of him. No matter what
00:47:57While John celebrates with his family Zaylin is prepared to get the performance of her life
00:48:04You better bring it this girl needs to deliver right here
00:48:08This is probably the biggest audience. I've ever played in front of I'm really nervous about holding back on stage
00:48:16Like I did in my audition. I played an original
00:48:29Gosh I don't think she's quite ready. I got a no from Luke
00:48:33I would roll the dice because I feel like she's gonna do great things. I
00:48:39Think it was just a lot of my confidence wasn't there
00:48:43For showstoppers. I decided on happier than ever by Billie Eilish
00:48:48It shows more of my range and like what I can do as a performer
00:48:58Yeah, I tend to get super nervous about things
00:49:03Okay, some of the notes are really high not out of my range but
00:49:09Not really in my comfort zone. I think I'm really pushing myself for this
00:49:15It's okay
00:49:21And especially with a song this big you really can't hold back or it's not gonna
00:49:27Hit like I really want it to
00:49:33Oh
00:49:48Wish I could explain I wish it wasn't true
00:50:04Call me again
00:50:06Drunk in your bands, but you only listen to your friends and
00:50:34Oh
00:50:37And everything good I said you were misunderstood
00:50:45Made all my moments
00:51:03Oh
00:51:05Oh
00:51:07Oh
00:51:32She's serious
00:51:34As a performer I could show
00:51:37More emotion I could get more into my song. I'd gave across who I am as an artist
00:51:42She has put herself definitely in the top. Oh, I have so
00:51:54When the life you had
00:51:58Slowly slips through your
00:52:00Hands when you've lost the fight inside of you, is there anything worth holding?
00:52:31Oh
00:52:34Separate right away
00:52:36Yeah, I can see the green cream and rising to the top while Fila waits to find out if his first Hollywood performance is worthy
00:52:43Of his platinum status high school student Slater hopes to strike a new chord with the judges
00:52:48The level of talent this year in this competition is unlike anything I've ever seen
00:52:52I've watched American Idol my whole life and that is something I worry about because I am
00:52:57Just a singer-songwriter and and I hope that that'll be enough to carry me through
00:53:08Playing two original songs
00:53:10These first two rounds that were both very emotional was definitely a risk that I took
00:53:15Just knowing the fact that it's harder to connect with originals for hearing them for the first time for this round
00:53:21I'll be doing a cover for the first time on Idol. I will be singing Ophelia by the band and
00:53:27Little bit nerve-wracking, but I'm very used to singing covers. I was just wondering the count off cadence
00:53:32What did you want to do for you count us off?
00:53:34So when you say the one two, three four just say that in your mic
00:53:36Okay, cool ever since I got my first gig at a cattle auction in South, Georgia in the summers
00:53:42I moved to a full-time musician. I was doing four gigs a week playing until my fingers were burning aching sweating
00:53:48But I knew that this is what I wanted to do and I was working my butt off
00:53:52I'll be showing a different side of myself with this cover
00:53:55I think I'm gonna have to learn some dance moves for this song
00:54:00No
00:54:03Absolutely not
00:54:05Let's clarify. I'm not breakdancing just a little bit of hip movement. Just some of that
00:54:11That's that's what's gonna do it for Luke. At least I know it
00:54:14I know it because I've seen his dance moves and some get the ladies off their feet
00:54:19On their feet not off their feet. I
00:54:22I
00:54:24Think at the end of the day what's gonna put me ahead is my grit and my willingness to succeed and the dance moves
00:54:41There by the window
00:54:44Down the door
00:54:49Quickly far
00:54:55Where have you gone?
00:55:05Just take the side
00:55:10What became
00:55:13Oh
00:55:43Oh
00:55:57Please come back
00:56:03I don't fear
00:56:11Please
00:56:13Oh
00:56:32Didn't know if I'd be able to build up the nerves to do a little dance and and get all energetic on stage
00:56:38But I I did it and I feel good
00:56:40I
00:56:55Left it all on stage and if if that's enough then it's enough if not, and I understand but I did all I can do
00:57:01I'm happy and I'm gonna be content with that until we get the result
00:57:11Being a Mexican-american from East LA so much talent has been overlooked. I'm always reminded by my uncle Ray's story my grandfather's story
00:57:18So they'll say my grandma told me
00:57:20Campo de Dios es el tiempo perfecto
00:57:24God's timing is the perfect time
00:57:28And I feel like this is my time
00:57:31My family means everything to me. They're my backbone. They've all sacrificed a lot to support me in my dreams
00:57:41You and I both to me this is an opportunity to give back to them
00:57:44I'm doing it for you guys all of us and I'm gonna give it all I got
00:57:50This performance is gonna mean everything to me because I'm gonna have a big section in the audience for showstoppers
00:57:59Today I'll be singing Sabota me by Louise Miguel
00:58:04I'm
00:58:06Singing in full Spanish and
00:58:09Sabota me is such a huge staple song of the culture and
00:58:13It means a lot to me to be able to sing in Spanish on American Idol. I've waited my whole life for this opportunity
00:58:18I'm hoping that I can pull it off and maybe just show a different side of me
00:58:33I
00:59:03I don't have any vanity
00:59:07In my life
00:59:09I'm not good
00:59:11I'm so poor
00:59:13What else can I give?
00:59:15It will pass
00:59:25More than a thousand years
00:59:27Many more
00:59:29I don't know if I love you
00:59:31I have lost you
00:59:33I'm going to find you
00:59:35Like here
00:59:37In the mouth you will carry
00:59:39Flavor to me
00:59:57Flavor to me
01:00:01Flavor to me
01:00:31Flavor to me
01:00:33Flavor to me
01:00:35Flavor to me
01:00:37Flavor to me
01:00:39Flavor to me
01:00:41Flavor to me
01:00:43Flavor to me
01:00:45Flavor to me
01:00:47Flavor to me
01:00:49Flavor to me
01:00:51Flavor to me
01:00:53Flavor to me
01:00:55Flavor to me
01:00:57Flavor to me
01:00:59Flavor to me
01:01:01Flavor to me
01:01:03Flavor to me
01:01:05Flavor to me
01:01:07Flavor to me
01:01:09Flavor to me
01:01:11Flavor to me
01:01:13Flavor to me
01:01:15Flavor to me
01:01:17Flavor to me
01:01:19Flavor to me
01:01:21Flavor to me
01:01:23Flavor to me
01:01:25Flavor to me
01:01:27Oh my god!
01:01:29As a black girl, it is very important to
01:01:31show other little black girls
01:01:33that you can be the face of American Idol.
01:01:35This performance is very
01:01:37important to me.
01:01:39Because
01:01:41I've definitely struggled with self-doubt.
01:01:43I've put in so much work.
01:01:45Like
01:01:47the sleepless nights, you know,
01:01:49and working overnight, and
01:01:51working on my career. It's been
01:01:53a lot.
01:01:55And even just,
01:01:57you know, struggling and things like that,
01:01:59I feel like,
01:02:01ooh.
01:02:05Being here, it's really been
01:02:07one of the highlights of, like, my life.
01:02:09And it's not so much about the singing,
01:02:11the music, but
01:02:13it's more about showing people
01:02:15who I am and coming out.
01:02:17And, like, really being myself.
01:02:25My skin is black
01:02:27My arms are long
01:02:29My hair is woolly
01:02:31My back is strong
01:02:33What do they call me?
01:02:35I'm a woman
01:02:37I'm a woman
01:02:39I'm a woman
01:02:41I'm a woman
01:02:43I'm a woman
01:02:45I'm a woman
01:02:47I'm a woman
01:02:49I'm a woman
01:02:51I'm a woman
01:02:53What do they call me?
01:02:55He-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e
01:03:01My name is on Sarah
01:03:03Sarah
01:03:07Watch out now.
01:03:09Ooh.
01:03:11Oh yeah.
01:03:15My skin is brown
01:03:19Oh yeah
01:03:21My manor, my manor is dead
01:03:26And I'll kill the first I see
01:03:34My life has been rough
01:03:37I'm a-sleepin' at this day
01:03:41Because my parents were slaves
01:03:47Ooh, yeah, what do they call me?
01:03:52Oh, what do they call me?
01:03:59Oh, my name is
01:04:09Peach
01:04:33Oh my goodness
01:04:34She just came roaring to the front of the competition
01:04:37She didn't do too much with it
01:04:39She stood there
01:04:41The crowd went crazy
01:04:43The judges stood up
01:04:44Oh my goodness
01:04:45I wish I was still up there
01:04:46This front row seat
01:04:49And baby, baby, you can go ahead
01:04:53And cry, baby
01:05:01Baby, baby, baby, would you really go ahead
01:05:04And would you go ahead and just cry?
01:05:09I think the definition of a show-stopping performance
01:05:12Is super next level
01:05:13And it also needs to get the crowd going
01:05:15They get up and start dancing
01:05:16I want people to have fun
01:05:18I need a healer
01:05:20I want an alpha male
01:05:22Till the end of the night
01:05:24Your ability to, like, engage a crowd
01:05:25And have people have a good time
01:05:27The last dance
01:05:29The last dance tonight
01:05:35It's not just about the vocals
01:05:37It's also about the performing
01:05:39Who am I now?
01:05:40I'm on a dance
01:05:41I'm starting to see
01:05:43Everything you lack
01:05:45I feel like it's gonna be a lot of big energy music
01:05:48I'm singing a more upbeat, gritty song
01:05:53Hallelujah
01:05:56Hallelujah
01:06:01Amen, amen
01:06:05Thank you
01:06:10Coming into the show-stopper round
01:06:12Everyone's utilizing the full band
01:06:14I want the vibe of my show-stopper
01:06:16To be very minimalist
01:06:18I think I'm taking a risk
01:06:20To do something different for sure
01:06:22I feel like sometimes when you're quiet
01:06:24And you're still, you really command attention
01:06:28We're not gonna do much
01:06:29Unless you want me to do much
01:06:30I mean, completely up to you
01:06:32But I think it's such a gentle song
01:06:34Yeah, yeah, yeah
01:06:35The song I will be singing in the show-stopper round
01:06:37Is Imagine by John Lennon
01:06:42I feel like this is a song
01:06:43That just encapsulates
01:06:45So much truth and emotion
01:06:46That I think we need to hear
01:06:47In today's age of America
01:06:55Imagine
01:07:05Imagine there's no heaven
01:07:12It's easy if you try
01:07:17And no heaven belongs
01:07:25Above us only skies
01:07:32Imagine all the people
01:07:38Living for today
01:07:46Imagine there's no country
01:07:53It isn't hard to do
01:08:00Nothing to kill or die for
01:08:07Oh, and no religion soon
01:08:10Come on now
01:08:12Imagine all the people
01:08:18Living life in peace
01:08:23Soon
01:08:32You might say I'm a dream
01:08:36But I'm not the only one
01:08:40That I love
01:08:42Come on, baby
01:08:44And I'll hold someday your choice
01:08:51And the world will be a swamp
01:08:58And the world will be a swamp
01:09:02And the world will be a swamp
01:09:21Yeah, vocally he's not, you know, he's not
01:09:23But he did a lot more
01:09:25Yes, he did
01:09:26In previous, like vocally
01:09:27In previous performances
01:09:29Right, he did
01:09:32He knows how to make the room go
01:09:34Right to him
01:09:35Exactly what I'm saying
01:09:37I hope the judges saw a little bit more
01:09:38Of my artistry in this song
01:09:39This is the first cover that I've done
01:09:40For the show so far
01:09:42So it's really cool
01:09:43I hope they can see how I can branch out
01:09:44A little bit from just originals
01:09:46And I hope they can really take away
01:09:47And see something worth investing in
01:09:55Good morning
01:09:56I had the incredible idea
01:09:59To grab you and show you
01:10:00My day at work
01:10:02So let's go, let's do it
01:10:05Breathing in
01:10:06Breathing out
01:10:08Coffee's done
01:10:10I'm ready to start the day
01:10:11Every morning or the same
01:10:13I go at the same place
01:10:15Take some pallets
01:10:16So I'm gonna show you this right now
01:10:19Good day, everyone
01:10:25I have a good job
01:10:26But I always have the feeling
01:10:28Yeah, it's not for me, you know
01:10:35The only place I feel good
01:10:36Is when I'm on stage
01:10:38That's what I'm born to do
01:10:40So I hope the judge gonna save me
01:10:46Oh, come on, sweet Olivia
01:10:50I can't believe I'm here right now
01:10:54I'm always thinking
01:10:55I'm nothing in my life
01:10:57I'm a nobody
01:10:58And right now I'm here
01:10:59In American Idol
01:11:00So it's just a dream
01:11:12On a cobweb
01:11:15Afternoon in a room
01:11:18Full of emptiness
01:11:21By freeway
01:11:22There's your rock star right there
01:11:24I confess I was lost
01:11:27In the pages
01:11:30Of the book
01:11:33Full of death
01:11:35Breathing out
01:11:36We'll die alone
01:11:39And if we're good
01:11:41We're laid to rest
01:11:44Anywhere we wanna go
01:11:51In your house
01:11:55Along to me
01:11:59From my room
01:12:04Patiently
01:12:08I'll wait for you there
01:12:13Like a rock star
01:12:17I'll wait for you there
01:12:21Along
01:12:25And I'll wait for you there
01:12:30Along
01:12:35Along
01:12:42Whoo!
01:12:46Thank you, guys!
01:12:47Where did that come from?
01:12:49I don't know.
01:12:50Terry's been looking for a rock star,
01:12:51and it's him.
01:12:53Thank you, guys.
01:12:55Thank you, everyone.
01:13:00I'm never confident,
01:13:01but when I show up on the stage,
01:13:03you know, I sing for my life,
01:13:05so I just do all my best,
01:13:07and I think it's gonna work.
01:13:09You know I was raised out in the cold
01:13:13I love his tone.
01:13:14French-Canadian.
01:13:15And that little growl he has.
01:13:17Oh!
01:13:18I need to be in the top 24, you know.
01:13:19I think to check in my fly,
01:13:21and this is not an option for me
01:13:23because I don't want to go home,
01:13:24so I need to stay here.
01:13:26As Olivier waits for word from the judges,
01:13:29there's one last showstopper
01:13:31who prays he can leave it all on the stage.
01:13:34I'm really a tragic kid.
01:13:37I started singing in church,
01:13:39I believe around 6 or 7.
01:13:41My mother's camera roll is full of pictures and videos
01:13:44of me on the pulpit singing and preaching.
01:13:47I'll get you up on the microphone here.
01:13:49I've performed with a band 2 or 3 times,
01:13:51so being on this stage and being able to have this band
01:13:54is something that I've always dreamed of.
01:13:56It'll be just like singing in church.
01:13:58But I'm ready to go out there and just give it my all,
01:14:00as if I do when I'm singing in the shower.
01:14:04I always imagine that I have a band
01:14:06and I have background vocals,
01:14:08and I just go for everything that I have.
01:14:11Having the platinum ticket adds a lot of pressure.
01:14:15Oh, here we go.
01:14:16I do feel that there is an expectation
01:14:18that I have to make it far into this competition.
01:14:20Hello, everybody!
01:14:22And that's what I plan on doing,
01:14:24holding up that title
01:14:25and hopefully winning the whole thing
01:14:27and taking this all home.
01:14:28My name is Cannon, and I'm gonna be singing
01:14:30Never Would Have Made It by Marvin Satt.
01:14:33cheering & applause
01:14:38piano plays softly
01:14:42Never would have made it
01:14:46cheering & applause
01:14:49Never could have made it
01:14:53Without you
01:14:58I would have lost it all
01:15:02But now I see
01:15:07That you were there for me
01:15:10And I can say
01:15:13I'm stronger
01:15:16I'm wiser
01:15:20I'm better
01:15:23So much better
01:15:26When I look back
01:15:29Over all you brought me through
01:15:33I realize that you
01:15:36Were the one I held on to
01:15:39And I never, never would have made it
01:15:45Somebody help me sing in this room
01:15:47Never, never could have made it
01:15:52Without you
01:15:56I would have lost my mind
01:16:01But you were there for me
01:16:04Right on time
01:16:07And I never, never would have made it
01:16:13No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
01:16:17Never could have made it
01:16:20No, without you
01:16:24Go on, man. Go on, do what you gotta do.
01:16:26I would have lost it all
01:16:30Oh, but now that I see
01:16:34You were there for me
01:16:38I never would have made it
01:16:45Yeah, yeah, yeah
01:16:48Whoo!
01:16:52Yeah!
01:16:54Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
01:16:56Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
01:16:58Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
01:17:00Holy moly.
01:17:02Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
01:17:04That was the greatest performance I've ever seen.
01:17:08Amazing.
01:17:10Thank you. It was amazing.
01:17:12Thank you so much. Thank you.
01:17:14Kanan. Yes, sir?
01:17:16Just say, hello, America.
01:17:18Hello, America!
01:17:20A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:22A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:24A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:26A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:28A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:30A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:32A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:34He's 17!
01:17:36A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:38A-R-M-E-C-A
01:17:40Having the platinum ticket and the judges having high expectations,
01:17:43I pray that I met those expectations
01:17:46and, you know, make it to the top 24.
01:17:48When the crowd tells you you're top two, that's good.
01:17:50That's not right.
01:17:51Top one. Top one.
01:17:53An unbelievable round of Showstopper performances.
01:17:57And now the judges must decide the fate of this incredible, talented group.
01:18:02This is the toughest decision we are ever going to make.
01:18:1062 of the nation's best singers made it to the Showstoppers round.
01:18:14They've left it all on the stage.
01:18:17Now they've gathered in the theater to find out who will be continuing their idol journey.
01:18:22I mean, everybody brought it today, and so everybody's on the edge of their seat.
01:18:27We are going to bear the good news and the bad news
01:18:32and ask the following people to make their way to the stage.
01:18:37J. Marie,
01:18:39Will Carter,
01:18:41Santina,
01:18:43Christina Stutzman,
01:18:45Sia.
01:18:47This has been the most incredible Showstoppers we've ever had in idol history.
01:18:52There are 120,000 artists
01:18:57that wish they could be where you are right now.
01:19:03Congratulations on your talent.
01:19:06Unfortunately, I'm sorry to tell you all that your journey ends here.
01:19:11I'm still holding on to everything that's dead and gone.
01:19:17I don't want to say goodbye, cause this one means forever.
01:19:21Definitely leaving with more confidence.
01:19:25I'm definitely feeling a little bit disappointed here.
01:19:27I'm proud of what I did, and that's all I can be.
01:19:31I'm going to be a superstar regardless.
01:19:35Oh, it hurts so hard.
01:19:40Please head up to the stage when I call your name.
01:19:44Kanan,
01:19:46Gabby Simone,
01:19:48Zaylee,
01:19:50and Maddie Pruitt.
01:19:53Thank you guys so much for your hard work and being out here with us.
01:20:01Unfortunately, this is where it ends for you.
01:20:10When it comes to the three of us deciding y'all's fate,
01:20:16y'all have made it straight to America's Vote.
01:20:19It's official, y'all are in the top 24.
01:20:33I just went into the top 24.
01:20:36This does not feel real to me at all.
01:20:39I got mom and dad on the phone. Talk to them.
01:20:46Isaiah Moore,
01:20:49Jazzy Mae,
01:20:51and Samantha Ray.
01:20:57Every single person in this room is on a journey.
01:21:02Figuring out what's around the corner.
01:21:05You have great days, great moments,
01:21:09but for this chapter of your story,
01:21:14it's a no,
01:21:17but turn this no into something incredible.
01:21:24I don't know.
01:21:25It's okay.
01:21:27I wish I could stay, but I'm still grateful that I've even made it this far.
01:21:36I just got a lot of emotions right now.
01:21:39With only four singers moving on to the top 24,
01:21:43the rest of the group anxiously wait to learn their fate.
01:21:46There's 42 of you left in the room.
01:21:51These four are already into the top 24.
01:21:55We have 20 spots left.
01:21:59We're calling this next round the head-to-head round,
01:22:02and it starts tonight.
01:22:05You get to pick someone to sing with,
01:22:08and you're going to do a duet by tomorrow.
01:22:11Because tomorrow, we're going to pick our next 20 to be in our top 24.
01:22:17Half of you will be going through, and the other half will be saying goodbye.
01:22:21It's going to be a long night.
01:22:24We just sent some great talent home,
01:22:26and tomorrow night is not going to be any easier.
01:22:29So we thought we would bring in a little extra support
01:22:34He's going to be with us all season long
01:22:40to navigate the ups and the downs of what you are about to go through.
01:22:47Jelly Roll!
01:23:01Welcome back.
01:23:02Glad to be a part of the Idol family the rest of the season.
01:23:06We have got a mountain in front of us,
01:23:08and we don't got a lot of time to deal with it.
01:23:10So we're going to get on with the get-on right here,
01:23:12and I'm going to see y'all, and we're going to talk about this,
01:23:14and we're going to get it right.
01:23:15Y'all ready for tonight or what?
01:23:16It's going to be a long night.
01:23:19With Jelly Roll as artist-in-residence,
01:23:21the remaining finalists will have less than 24 hours
01:23:26before taking the stage to earn their spot
01:23:30in the Top 20 Fools.
01:23:31This is crazy.
01:23:32I really don't want to go home.
01:23:34We weren't prepared for this.

01:23:43in an all-new challenge where they will sing against each other.
01:23:47There's no time for rest until this is done.
01:23:49Head to Head.
01:23:52Wow, that was a perfect performance.
01:23:55Everything is on the line.
01:23:57I don't know it.
01:23:58What happened? I felt like it was on Easy Street when I left y'all.
01:24:01We were running like chickens with our heads cut off.
01:24:03It worked so hard.
01:24:04He was about to crumble.
