The iron hammer mill in Hasloch is a fascinating historical hammer mill in the Bavarian Spessart.
It is an impressive example of the use of water power in industrial history. Of the original four hammers, two have been preserved: an ejector hammer and a tail hammer.
The drop hammer uses the power of water to lift the hammer handle, causing the iron lying on the anvil to be deformed when the hammer falls on it.
The smaller tail hammer was mainly used to forge ploughshares.
The days of the iron hammers in the Odenwald and Spessart came to an end in the 19th century. Blast furnaces in the Ruhr area with their more modern production methods replaced them.
