Jack Black and Jason Momoa are bringing big laughs to the Minecraft universe—and even bigger mispronunciations of “IMAX.” In a hilarious new interview promoting A Minecraft Movie, the duo dives into the epic scale of seeing the film on the biggest screen possible… but can’t quite get through the word “IMAX” without turning it into a comedy bit. Between their wild energy, off-the-wall chemistry, and genuine love for the game, this interview is as entertaining as the movie itself—and a must-watch for fans of both stars.

00:00You know what I'd like to see in IMAX?
00:02I don't even know if you guys shot any of that.
00:04Don't.
00:05Don't.
00:06Jim's in it. Yeah, Jim's in IMAX.
00:09Don't worry! I'm gonna push it up over this water bucket!
00:13Release!
00:19Gentlemen, we're in Minecraft right now.
00:21Yeah.
00:22And it feels pretty good to be sitting here with two legends such as yourselves.
00:27Why should fans experience a Minecraft movie in IMAX?
00:31Oh my gosh, it's gonna be amazing.
00:33You know what? I do enjoy a juicy IMAX experience.
00:36This world in IMAX is gonna be...
00:38It's so much bigger.
00:40And it is a gigantic world to explore.
00:43It's a universe. We brought the Minecraft universe.
00:46So you wanna see those backgrounds, those giant mountains,
00:49all those incredible trees and all those things in the IMAX
00:54just because it looks cooler.
00:56From my research, this is your first film to be shown in IMAX.
01:00Yeah. Is that correct?
01:01It is. It absolutely is.
01:02Could you talk about...
01:03And I'm always fascinated getting to talk to an awesome filmmaker such as yourself.
01:07What is it like getting to see your work displayed in that way?
01:11Yeah, I mean, it's pretty amazing.
01:13I mean, there's nothing like seeing a film in IMAX.
01:17And especially, I think, immersive kind of world-building type of films.
01:24It just brings detail and immerses you in a way that no other cinematic experience can.
01:31I love to ask this question because you guys are such big movie fans, you're gaming fans.
01:35If you could experience any movie on an IMAX screen, what would you choose and why?
01:40Well, I mean, if I wanted to experience any movie in IMAX,
01:43I would choose one that was shot with the IMAX cameras and done properly.
01:49You know who does that? It's Christopher Nolan.
01:52I went and saw Oppenheimer in IMAX and it was kind of mind-blowing.
01:56There are some movies that are like, ooh, that is especially good on IMAX.
02:00I want to see two of my favorite movies because I can't pick between them.
02:04I would want to see The Shining.
02:06Dude.
02:07Or, can you imagine seeing The Shining on IMAX?
02:09Dude.
02:10Or Apocalypse Now.
02:12Ooh.
02:14You know what I'm saying?
02:15That's epic.
02:16IMAX puts you in the world.
02:19Imagine being in Apocalypse Now.
02:20Yeah.
02:21Crazy.
02:22Brando moments.
02:23Totally.
02:24You know what I'd like to see on IMAX?
02:26I don't even know if you guys shot any of that.
02:28Don't.
02:29Don't.
02:30Jim's in it.
02:31Yeah, Jim's in IMAX.
02:32I like, because I'm such a mommy.
02:35I'm a mom, okay?
02:37So don't judge me.
02:38I would want to see Moana again.
02:41I'm just saying.
02:42The water.
02:43It's the water.
02:44If you could experience any movie on IMAX again or for the first time,
02:47what would you want to experience and why?
02:48Just as fans.
02:50Well, I watched a lot of movies as, you know,
02:54because they've come out already.
02:56My dad got me through a lot of 80s movies,
02:58but I'd love to watch an old movie again
03:00because I was not around for it when it was in theaters
03:03and I think it's a great movie, like Interstellar or something like that.
03:06I'd love to watch IMAX.
03:08Oh, that's a good answer.
03:10I was too young to see Lord of the Rings when it first came out.
03:15I was, like, zero years old.
03:18So I would love to experience all three of them in IMAX.
03:22That would be really cool.
03:23This is another chance that you got to work with Jack Black,
03:26and obviously you've worked with him in the past.
03:28Could you talk about any great stories
03:31that you either had on the set of this film
03:33or working with him in the past
03:34that just, like, exemplifies how it is to work with Mr. Jack Black?
03:37Yeah, he, I mean, look.
03:39He is, like, the biggest kid at heart,
03:43and that energy that he brings to everything that he does
03:46is just unbelievable,
03:48and it just elevates the whole crew, the whole cast,
03:51and he also is so genuine.
03:55Like, he remembers everybody's name on set.
03:58It doesn't matter who you are, and genuinely cares about you.
04:02And so he's just a world-class talent,
04:05world-class human being,
04:06and, you know, ever since working with him on Nacho Libre,
04:10it's like we've wanted to do something together.
04:12And there was nobody better on planet Earth than Jack to play Steve
04:15and bring him to life,
04:16because he's such a gamer nerd, man,
04:18and he, you know, he would go to his trailer,
04:21like, when we were shooting,
04:22he would go to his trailer and just play Minecraft,
04:26and he'd be like,
04:27dude, just harvested some amazing lapis lazuli.
04:30So he, you know, he's hardcore, man.
04:33And we had a special server that the team at Mojang made
04:36just for the cast and crew,
04:38and to this day, one of our producers logged on,
04:42and two of the security guards in New Zealand that ran the gate
04:46were still in there playing,
04:48which is pretty awesome.
04:49And Jared's awesome.
04:50I mean, he's got such a great, you know, resume as is.
04:54Did you watch some of his films kind of prepping for this movie,
04:57and what was that process like working with him?
05:00I had watched Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre like a while ago,
05:05and I hadn't seen them in ages,
05:07so then I re-watched Napoleon Dynamite,
05:09and it's just as funny as I remember it.
05:12Yeah, I watched Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre
05:15because I don't think I had seen,
05:16I think I saw Nacho Libre but not Napoleon Dynamite
05:19because I saw, like, School of Rock,
05:21and I wanted to watch something else
05:22because, you know, love Jack's movies.
05:24But, yeah, I think I, I think when I got on set,
05:27I was like, yeah, this is pretty, you know,
05:29Nacho Libre, you know, ish, so yeah.
05:31I feel like the cast in this movie, y'all had so much fun.
05:34So I just wanted to know, like,
05:36what was that like, the dynamic on set,
05:38and are there any fun stories
05:39that you kind of are going to look back on this experience
05:41and be like, damn, that was really, that was really awesome?
05:43I mean, we had such a good time.
05:46Like, at one point, our wrap party,
05:48like, Jason had done, like, hang out at his crib,
05:52and he did a whole concert for us.
05:55But then me and Jack sang with him.
05:58That was pretty epic.
06:00I sang Tennessee Whiskey with him,
06:01and that was, yeah, it was pretty fun.
06:03So, and his band is really good.
06:05So that's, like, I'm going to miss just being with them
06:09and singing and, and cracking jokes.
06:12And hopefully it won't be the last.
