00:00I was just inspired by the story of Shankar Nair, because when I was studying law,
00:06I realized that law has the power to bring about enormous change. And here I came across
00:12a story where the law and a court battle brought down an empire. So that, for me was very fascinating.
00:20And Shankar Nair, as Akshay sir also pointed out, he was a lawyer who didn't believe in
00:27sitting across a table and negotiating with the Britishers. He took the Britishers on in their
00:33court, using their laws. So the laws of this country were written by the Britishers, but
00:37Shankar Nair used them to make a mighty statement and to bring the empire down to their knees.
00:44So as a lawyer, there is no better court case. As a lawyer, there is no better, you know, narrative.
00:51So I was actually lucky that I came across this book. And, you know, I just hope that all of you
00:57really like this movie. And yeah, it's in the book where General Dyer's character is described
01:03with the utmost precision. So, it came from a lot of books. Then we underwent a lot of
01:08casting process, where we auditioned a lot of UK actors. Then we came across this lovely actor,
01:14Simon Paisley Day, who got the mannerisms of Dyer down to the T. He was, you know,
01:22a general who was very racist in his attitude. So, we got that spot on. So,
01:32I was very lucky to work with a very, very good actor.
01:41And then Amrit really backed the story and backed the script. And then we were very lucky that we
01:48met Karan. And he was the biggest, biggest pillar for us. And then through Karan, through Amrit,
01:54we met Akshay sir. And in the first meeting, Akshay sir was just so supportive. And he was
02:00so collaborative. And then we wrote the script over a period of two years. And Akshay sir had a
02:04huge role to play in the scripting process as well. And we just researched everything we discussed
02:09each and every scene. And it was the most beautiful experience. He was involved in
02:14discussing each and every scene, each and every dialogue. It has been the most collaborative
02:19experience ever.
