00:10A Filipino who has a relative who is a victim of EJK is now preparing in Daheg to apply for a share in the case of former President Rodrigo Duterte in the ICC.

00:21In the meantime, the spokesperson of the court stated that not all victims are possible witnesses.

00:35The International Criminal Court assured that they have a system in place to ensure the protection or the safety of the victims and the witnesses

00:45in the hearing of the crimes against humanity against former President Rodrigo Duterte here in the ICC.

00:57In the 16-page document of the ICC Registry in the pre-trial chamber 1 yesterday,

01:03they said that they already had three consultations with the bodies of the victims of extrajudicial killings during the drug war of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

01:12More than 200 bodies are included in the consultations facing more than 2,000 victims and more than 1,500 families of EJK in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

01:25According to the ICC, the consultation is not yet about the case.

01:29When we have an investigation regarding a certain conflict or a certain zone like in the Philippines,

01:36we need to already kind of contact the media and contact the victims and try to prepare for when a case would come.

01:44For example, part of the consultation with the victims was about how can they identify themselves.

01:50Are there ID cards? Are there official documentation?

01:53Are there any unofficial documentation that can be provided to kind of prove their identity and so on?

02:01The registry in the pre-trial chamber asked for the acceptance of various official IDs initiated in the Philippines

02:07because the national ID system will not be implemented here.

02:10Dr. Abdala made it clear that not all victims can be witnesses.

02:15In the confirmation of charges on September 23, it is not expected that many witnesses will be faced.

02:20A witness is a person who is called by the parties, by the prosecution, or by the defense, or by the judges for that matter,

02:28to testify, to provide a valuable information that can be useful for the judges to decide on a certain case.

02:35A witness may or may not be a victim. An expert is a witness. An insider is a witness.

02:41There are different types of witnesses, but not necessarily a victim.

02:47One of those who is preparing to apply for participation in the case is Mira.

02:51Her real name is not known. She is in the Hague right now.

02:54Two days ago, her siblings were wrongly accused of driving drugs and were charged with non-violence.

03:00That is why she was sentenced to drive police operations in May 2017

03:03in the wake of the war on drugs of the Duterte administration.
