00:00Something we've never done is brought someone up on stage and if there are any
00:05There are any people who know how to play any of our songs
00:09They should maybe raise their hands and tell us that at some point
00:18Hey, my name is Ethan and thanks for continuing to be fans after all these years
00:24Hey, hey everyone, it's Kyle from the click five Ethan and I are here and we're very excited to be here with Asia one
00:30We can't wait to play shows again this year. We are awakening the beast. That is the click five and we'll be back
00:38Hopefully more in the future as well
00:40So it's been 12 years since the click five disbanded for the first time
00:44So who brought up the idea of getting back together? Why did the others agree? I think Joe did I feel like we've
00:53Chatted about it over the years and there's just not been the right opportunity and this time around
00:59there was an opportunity and Joe and I chatted about it and then we
01:04Urgently sent a message to Kyle that we needed to talk to him within 24 hours
01:13I think I think Joe was was always the one that was kind of like
01:18Really pushing us doing stuff again, and I'm grateful that he's been doing that nice
01:24so could you share a bit of what you guys have been up to since Joe isn't here one of you can tell me about
01:32his
01:33Music over the last however many years I have been mostly producing
01:38In writing for other artists. That's that's mostly what I've been doing for the past
01:44Ten plus years we both learned so much from the producer that made the click five records Mike Dineen
01:51I don't know if it's his personality or what what it is
01:54but he kind of became this mentor figure for us for many years and
01:59We I think all of us kind of went into that experience making those records having never done that before
02:05in like a big studio setting where there's kind of like no shortage of awesome old instruments and
02:12Beautiful pianos and old melatrons that there's only a few of them in the world and we kind of had this like
02:18Kid in a candy store feeling in that studio
02:21That kind of sent me even further down that path of like wow being a producer is a really cool job
02:26and
02:28That's that's what I've been doing and I know Ethan's been insane for for you know all these years since then
02:33So Ethan I went on your page, and I saw you're in a band called atomic Tom
02:37So what have you been up to when the click five officially disbanded?
02:44Joe and I both moved to LA like shortly after that and
02:50Yeah, I joined a band with some friends
02:55guys that were in our circle of friends for a long time and and
03:00They had also
03:01Three of them had just moved to LA and their bass player didn't so they were looking for a bass player
03:06And so I started playing with them. I spent a lot of time
03:11kind of bouncing between
03:14Different things I've produced and I write for other artists
03:21These days I do a lot of mixing Joe's chosen an awesome rock band called Grand Canyon
03:27And they've been putting out records for the past few years
03:31With his buddy Casey, and they they make awesome records
03:35So he's been he's been doing that and also touring with Linda Perry
03:41playing guitar for her
03:43And doing a bunch of gigs
03:45Traveling with her so he's been super active. I feel like these are gonna be some of the best days of our lives for some reason
03:52These shows are shaping up to be pretty crazy and some of them are really big
03:57I'm glad I'm glad he was pushing it all these years and it finally happened. He never gave up
04:01So do you appreciate the nostalgia or do you want the tour to kind of?
04:07Lead back to getting eyes on your other project or what's that all about?
04:13Well, I think I think all of the above I think it's awesome. I
04:18Personally really like the nostalgia element of it. We're lucky to be doing what we do and that there is an audience
04:25in Asia specific specifically
04:27The fact that people are still playing our songs and we literally have done zero promotion
04:34In the past, you know ten plus years and there's still almost a million monthly listeners on Spotify on our cat
04:43This is these are crazy numbers to say out loud that especially when we just haven't really put any any sort of effort into it
04:51So it's amazing like the nostalgia element to us is kind of a thing we're having a lot of fun with and
04:56We want to like almost go deep into the center of that and you know
05:01Maybe maybe we will make some new music in the future to ask the click five
05:04that's that's something we're discussing and we're gonna play these shows in May and kind of start with that and then
05:11If that goes well, and we feel good about it, we'll like we'll we'll do some stuff
05:15It's kind of like we're trying to make it just like what's fun. What feels good
05:19what feels good and
05:22Yeah, keep the fun going so Kyle you've obviously been to Singapore and Southeast Asia, but how about Ethan?
05:29Have you been back to this part of the world since like what were your highlights from back then the last time we were there?
05:37the
05:38Casino thing I think had just been built and so we went to we went up to that
05:44Like infinity pool, I don't know. I have so many fun memories like
05:50like going to a
05:53sort of open-air
05:57Place with chili crabs. I
06:02Also remember like just like going for like a solo walk around like little India
06:08which is just a very foreign looking kind of thing to
06:12Somebody from America like we have Chinatown in many of our cities, but we you know
06:17It's like it's like this whole other thing like whoa
06:22Actually, I have this that reminded me that I have this weird memory I think it was at the indoor stadium where like
06:28people were pushing
06:30Against like the the gate thing at the front so much
06:33And then this I just remember like I'm like playing it like I think we were only like two or three songs in and I just
06:39watched somebody get pushed up against the thing and then passed out and the next thing they were like medics like like
06:47like getting this
06:49Person out onto a stretcher and taking them away and like we're just like playing it's just like what is happening
06:57I don't remember that they were okay
07:00Real rock band. Yeah
07:02And also Kyle do you remember the show that we had to stop playing and in in Kuala Lumpur?
07:08like yeah, that was
07:11Hard rock. Yeah, exactly and like some speakers fell and
07:15Same thing standing on people were pushing people were pushing like to get closer and it was turning into like a stampede
07:23The situation there if I remember was the capacity was 400 and
07:29I think there was about 1,200 people in there. I think they let in like way too many people
07:36I remember crying myself to sleep that night
07:40this is all coming back to me not not for those not for those reasons, but because
07:45we had in-ears and
07:48They never really worked for me
07:50I always had difficulty with them and make the mix was always weird blah blah blah
07:56So at that show it was so loud also like the the amount of people in the small space
08:00I ended up taking one ear out trying that and then like trying the other ear and
08:06I had this like
08:08Kind of intricate bending part in at the end of empty
08:12We have to bend two strings to be in tune with one another and I couldn't hear what up what was going on
08:17So I put my this is the dumbest thing I've ever done. I put my ear against my amplifier. Oh my
08:24Here my strings it's like such like a stupid musician
08:28Perfectionist things like who cares that nobody can hear it. Anyways, probably and I like burnt my right ear
08:35Like it still has never been the same like since that show in 2008
08:40What do you guys want to tell your fans and what to expect from the show's coming up for one thing?
08:47Something we've never done is brought someone up on stage and if there are any
08:52Any people who know how to play any of our songs?
08:56They should maybe raise their hands and tell us that at some point. Yes
09:02Yeah, make a poster that says I play guitar and what song you want to play there you go
09:07You might we might just bring you up and throw it all on you
09:11But we're yeah, we're gonna play some things. We've never played live before
09:16Some like, you know deeper cuts too, so we're just gonna have fun with it and
09:21We're gonna get people singing. So come come ready to come ready to blow your voice out
09:31You
