00:00Putin has suggested an interim government in Ukraine under the support of the UN, and
00:07that could replace Zelensky. Reports also suggest Zelensky has directed his team to
00:13begin preparing for elections. How feasible is holding elections during the wartime?
00:20Well, it's impossible under existing Ukrainian constitutional law. They say that it's not
00:26allowed there. And part of it is people can't get to the polling places in most of the occupied
00:32territories in Ukraine where the Russians control them. They're not going to allow them
00:36to go and have a free and fair vote. What Russia's done by demanding some so-called
00:41interim government is he's basically trying to get a puppet government installed in Kiev
00:47that would be answering only to Putin. Again, this is the kind of thing which shows that
00:52Putin is not serious about ending this war. He's trying to just extend political warfare
00:57on through this mechanism. And even the United States has actually not called for elections
01:04to replace Zelensky. Zelensky is highly popular in Ukraine right now. If there were elections
01:09today, he would still win in a landslide, partly because there are not serious political
01:14alternatives that have broad-based support inside Ukraine.
