Displaced people sit amid crumbling buildings in quake-stricken Myanmar
Scenes captured by an eyewitness from Mandalay in quake-hit Myanmar on Saturday, March 29, revealed severe damage to buildings and groups of people sitting outside shaded from the heat by umbrellas and trees, surrounded by some of their belongings.
Residents in the cities of Mandalay and Sagaing reported on Sunday, March 30, that international aid had not arrived to them as concerns grew about a severe shortage of food, electricity and water.
The 7.7-magnitude quake, one of Myanmar's strongest in a century, jolted the war-torn Southeast Asian nation on Friday, leaving around 1,700 people dead, 3,400 injured and over 300 missing as of Sunday, the military government said.
