00:00Raphael Devers may be the face of the franchise and says,
00:03you know what?
00:04I'm going to take my game to the next level.
00:05But first, oh, you made a trade where you don't want me
00:08to play third base.
00:09No, I want to play third base.
00:10Now you want to make me a DH.
00:11Now I'm really unhappy and I'm so unhappy.
00:14I don't have a base hit and I struck out 10 times
00:17on opening weekend and we're not even through Sunday.
00:19Raphael Devers here, Tom.
00:20Come on now.
00:2210 strikeouts, the most in MLB history
00:25for the first three games of a season.
00:28It is, it is not good.
00:30And a lot of people were talking in the off season
00:31that, you know, Devers for as much of a liability
00:34as on defense, he's a player that like needs to be
00:37in the rhythm of the game.
00:38He needs to be out there on defense.
00:39You need a weather that kind of storms the ups and downs
00:41because he is an amazing hitter.
00:43It's actually not shown through the first three games,
00:44but he's an all-star caliber hitter.
00:46He can hit 30, 35 home runs, a hundred RBIs.
00:48And we agreed that this Red Sox team is a team
00:51that we're excited about this year.
00:52The improvements that they made in pitching,
00:54the young talent that they have, that lineup can be good.
00:57He needs to be a very, very big part of that.
01:00Or we're going to see some,
01:01we're going to see some issues with Boston this year.
01:03Like if this is a sign of things to come,
01:05it could be, it could get late early for them.
01:09Now we just had that a couple of graphics pop up,
01:11like how actual good Aaron Judge has been.
01:14Reflective in the market, we'll get to in just a moment.
01:16How bad Rafael Devers has been.
01:18Keep in mind, it's 162 games.
01:20They've only played a few games here.
01:22You can respond, you can rebound and not play good baseball
01:24and play good baseball at the same time.
01:27Check out the AL market right now as where it sits.
01:30Aaron Judge coming into this morning was a plus 155 price.
01:33He's down to plus 150.
01:35Coming into the season here, he was a three to one price.
01:37He cut his number in half.
01:39Rafael Devers was a 30 to one favorite to be the AL MVP.
01:44He's 60 to one today, just a few days later.
01:48So you talk about the ebbs and flows of,
01:49yeah, we expect it in high expectations.
01:51We're not throwing the baby out
01:53with the bathwater on Devers.
01:54He dropped $30 in one betting market here, Tom.
01:59One betting market and, you know,
02:01how much of this is to do with Judge himself,
02:03just running away with things at least through three games
02:06and the combination of Devers, you know,
02:08going O of 10 or whatever it is with a million strikeouts
02:11to start the season.
02:12Like these things are happening at the same time,
02:14which is hilarious.
02:15Devers is a good hitter.
02:17If you don't have a bet on him now,
02:18would I recommend betting on him?
02:19No, of course not.
02:20I think with the current odds,
02:21something like you worked on at 19 to one,
02:24even Corey Seager on the other side of that series
02:26for the Red Sox, like 14 to one,
02:28those are fine spots to look,
02:30especially even someone like Gunnar Henderson at 12 to one.
02:32But the combination of both things happening
02:34at the same time is so interesting.
02:36But again, if this were to happen in June,
02:39on June 30th and Devers goes through a stretch
02:42where he's O of 10,
02:43I don't think that would be that much of a difference.
02:45Like it's more dramatic now because he doesn't have a hit,
02:48but if you already had five home runs,
02:4910 home runs under his belt,
02:50this would just be a drop in the pan
02:54or a flash in the pan.
02:55Absolutely.
02:56And I completely agree with you,
02:57which is why I love to see the open market analysis.
02:59Like after three games, like this guy can't play anymore.
03:02And then he winds up with 35 home runs,
03:03hits 290 on the season.
03:05He got an unbelievable discount
03:06because of how much he was struggling to start the season
03:08in colder temperatures,
03:10getting accustomed to new pitchers that he's facing here.
03:12These guys will be just fine.
