00:00We know the truce deal between Israel and Hezbollah has pretty much been on shaky ground
00:06due to two cases of outgoing fire from southern Lebanon.
00:11What does this mean for the ceasefire between these two parties?
00:17So Leanne, as you recall, the vision for that ceasefire was to try to empower the Lebanese
00:25government to fully control all of its territory and to push Hezbollah ultimately out of having
00:31any meaningful military role in Lebanon.
00:34And I think that's still the goal.
00:36Clearly, the United States, when our diplomats go out and engage, and Morgan Ortegas, for
00:41example, the deputy negotiator on the Middle East for the State Department, she was out
00:48in Beirut not so long ago, trying to push and support and cajole the Lebanese government
00:53to take control.
00:55But until that happens, I think we're going to continue to see these firefights and flurries.
01:00It's in no one's interest to have another full-scale military conflict in Lebanon.
01:06But it is going to be happening again and again if Hezbollah is allowed to have free
01:13reign in southern Lebanon.
