00:00When we go to the mosque, we wear sungkuk, we don't wear niqab or tanjak, do you understand?
00:04When we pray, we wear sungkuk.
00:07But why is the level of sungkuk at the bottom?
00:14Sungkuk is not just a head cover, but a symbol of Malay culture and heritage.
00:20From a small shop to the hands of a famous person,
00:22the name Masu'ud Hussein, which is located in Muah Johor,
00:26is now one of the exclusive sungkuk names in Malaysia.
00:31For the owner and maker of Masu'ud Hussein's sungkuk, Nur Dalila Abdul Ghani,
00:36the decision to continue the legacy of his great-grandfather's sungkuk business,
00:39which was originally just to pay off his debts,
00:41is now a pillar in the effort to promote sungkuk.
00:46My sister was raised by my great-grandfather and my grandmother.
00:49They took care of her since she was a child.
00:51So, every day, we would see them making sungkuk.
00:56In the beginning, it was like forced labor.
00:58So, we had to do it willingly.
00:59When I took care of the shop,
01:01when my mother said she liked it,
01:03she would say, yes, we can make sungkuk.
01:05But when she was a child, when she wore sungkuk,
01:07my standard would fall.
01:09It was like that.
01:10So, when I saw it like that,
01:11it gave me an inspiration,
01:14it gave me an intention to promote this sungkuk.
01:21That was the turning point when Dalila rebuilt the legacy sungkuk business
01:27with the renaissance using the name of his great-grandfather,
01:31which was Masu'ud Hussein,
01:33producing sungkuk with various innovations,
01:35combining classic and modern elements.
01:40So, in the sungkuk, I would process it.
01:43From folding sungkuk,
01:45which used to be hard sungkuk,
01:46to soft folding sungkuk,
01:47we would process and innovate the sungkuk
01:50so that it can be used for travel and make it easier.
01:53But when it's opened, it's like a regular sungkuk.
01:57From just a small shop to a palace,
01:59Masu'ud Hussein's sungkuk has received special gifts
02:02from Sultan Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar,
02:06and former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Baddawi,
02:08Widi Yasin, and the head of the Melaka State,
02:12Muhammad Ali Muhammad Rustaq.
02:14When I made the sungkuk for the Sultan,
02:17the Sultan of Johor, who is our pride now,
02:19the design was only for me.
02:21And we took from what he said,
02:25we processed it.
02:26It means we have to use our imagination.
02:28So, we feel proud
02:31because the addition is only once in a lifetime.
02:36Year after year,
02:37Dalilah and her husband, Zahid Zakaria,
02:40are busy preparing the sungkuk,
02:42which is sold for RM15 to RM400.
02:46Some even sell for RM3,000
02:48depending on the ingredients and special ingredients.
02:51High demands, especially during the festive season,
02:54push sales to RM30,000 per unit per year.
02:59Because it's been a year,
03:01they think it's like Eid clothes,
03:04they make it in less than a minute, right?
03:05But we have a lot of ingredients,
03:07so we have to push it.
03:10When we push it, the next year,
03:12after Eid, we continue to order.
03:14Until I stopped it at the end of January
03:19because it was already packed.
03:22However, for Dalilah,
03:23this business is not just a source of wealth,
03:26but a trust to ensure the legacy of her great-grandfather's sungkuk
03:29remains relevant through the ages.
03:33After I rebranded it with its name,
03:36I felt like,
03:37Allah, the deceased must have felt proud.
03:41Because its name has been recognized,
03:43not only in Malaysia,
03:45but also outside Malaysia.
03:50We from Sungkuk Masarusin
03:52wish you a happy Eid,
03:55with all our hearts and souls.
