Showcasing driving pleasure up to the physical limits is the BMW Group’s mission with its new high-performance test vehicle – the BMW Vision Driving Experience. This Vision Vehicle is not destined for series production, but is instead serving as a rolling test rig for drivetrain and driving dynamics management technology developed specially for the Neue Klasse – the next generation of BMW vehicles – and referred to by BMW as the “Heart of Joy”. The prototype car put the capabilities of the Heart of Joy to the ultimate test of endurance at the BMW Performance Driving Center in Spartanburg, USA. And the company provided exclusive insights into its development programme for the electric driving experience on board the Neue Klasse as part of a preview presentation. Every fully electric Neue Klasse model will benefit from the Heart of Joy. The first taller Neue Klasse electric model will go into series production later this year at Plant Debrecen in Hungary. The new Heart of Joy adds a fourth dimension – BMW’s hallmark Sheer Driving Pleasure – to the existing trio of Neue Klasse characteristics (electrical, digital, circular).

00:00Inside the heart of joy, the BMW Dynamic Performance Control opens a new era for electric driving.
00:07Developed and designed from scratch and built entirely in-house, it embodies a spirit of tireless engineering.
00:14Millions of test kilometers completed under all conditions and decades of experience in driving dynamics development.
00:22It is the result of true passion for the joy of driving.
00:26For the first time, powertrain and chassis control are merged into just one central super-brain.
00:33With a latency of less than a few milliseconds, it responds ten times faster than today.
00:39When driving dynamically towards a goal, it's like driving a car.
00:44With a latency of less than a few milliseconds, it responds ten times faster than today.
00:50When driving dynamically towards a bend, the vehicle starts to recuperate as soon as the accelerator pedal is released.
00:57At the entrance to the curve, the recuperation is distributed and continuously shifted between both axles.
01:04The brake pedal increases recuperation without the brake intervening.
01:08So there is no brake jolt and the driver can accelerate out of the bend early and rear-biased without understeering.
01:14Even in an adverse driving situation, the vehicle uses recuperation on both axles for driving stability and precision, minimizing brake intervention.
01:24A seamless interplay between deceleration and acceleration results in the highest level of drive comfort.
01:31Unmatched smoothness even at lower speed and efficient recuperation to a full stop.
01:41The BMW Dynamic Performance Control provides an unrivaled experience in every driving situation.
01:50This is analog driving in a digital age.
01:53This is the heart of joy.
