00:00Well, we are looking at a few showers late today.
00:02Another quick moving clipper disturbance comes through,
00:04but we're watching that bigger storm for the weekend,
00:06all types of precipitation and maybe more rain and snow
00:09on the way as we head into the middle of next week.
00:21Well, we picked up a little bit of light rain yesterday
00:24from that quick moving clipper disturbance.
00:27Literally, we're talking a few hundreds of an inch
00:29and some of those areas in gray you see.
00:31But another very weak, fast moving clipper disturbance
00:34is coming through today following a similar path
00:36and will do probably a similar thing,
00:38just a few hundreds of inch of some very light rain showers
00:41here and there moving across the state.
00:43The biggest thing it'll do is increase that afternoon cloud
00:45cover and put a stop to rising temperatures here to the 50s.
00:50So here's Wednesday evening, 8 p.m.,
00:52some light rain kind of fizzling out
00:54as it drifts south and southeast
00:57and then out of here by the early morning hours
00:59but it will be warm enough
01:00that it will be all in the form of liquid.
01:0250s for highs across the whole southern half of the state.
01:05We're already there and into the 40s in northern Minnesota.
01:08Next couple of days are still looking warmer,
01:10near 60 in the Twin Cities Thursday,
01:12into the 60s in western and southwestern Minnesota
01:15with 40s up to the north.
01:16But the real temperature contrast sets up here Friday.
01:20We're going to see highs near 80 in southern Minnesota
01:23while it's barely above freezing in northern Minnesota.
01:25And that 50 degree temperature contrast
01:28will help fuel the next storm system here.
01:30It'll take advantage of that moisture.
01:32First round of moisture is going to be a mixture of rain,
01:34freezing rain and snow for northern Minnesota
01:36Thursday night into Friday.
01:37And then for the southern part of the state,
01:39we'll have some spotty showers, but the main focus
01:41will be Saturday into Saturday night of rain turning to snow.
01:44And on the northern edge there, as you can see,
01:46it's going to be a narrow swath of heavy snow
01:48just south of it, rain,
01:49and just north, cold enough for snow.
01:52So the average of the models is kind of accounting
01:55for this narrow swath of snow that'll develop,
01:57probably in west central and central Minnesota
01:59up the north shore Saturday into Saturday night.
02:02But any shift 20 miles south or north
02:06could have a big impact.
02:07So when we lay out all the different models,
02:09you can see the ensemble models
02:12and the deterministic models all showing
02:14that kind of narrow swath across central Minnesota.
02:17So they're generally in agreement on the general area,
02:19but just minor movements or fluctuations
02:23can make a big difference.
02:23We also could see the potential for some freezing rain,
02:26especially Saturday night here in southern Minnesota
02:29and during the day Friday for northern Minnesota.
02:32But in total, a lot of liquid in this storm.
02:34It's looking like an inch to potentially an inch and a half
02:36of liquid equivalent precipitation
02:38across southern Minnesota, western Wisconsin.
02:40So that is some welcome moisture,
02:42even though it is on the weekend again,
02:44but we are still in drought for most of the state
02:46and a cooler pattern overall sets up behind the system
02:50for much of next week.
02:51We're gonna see temperatures near or even below normal.
02:54And another system to watch, late Tuesday.
02:57This is no April Fool's joke.
02:58Tuesday is the first day of April.
03:00Tuesday into Wednesday, Wednesday night,
03:02we could see a swath of some heavy snow,
03:04but you can see we're really right on the edge
03:06of the rain snow line in the Twin Cities.
03:08And that's still a week out, so a lot can happen.
03:11But the pattern remains active
03:13is the moral of the story, basically.
03:15We have a couple more systems to watch
03:17and it's been an active month of March compared to winter.
03:20So 55 today, some spotty evening showers.
03:24Brighter tomorrow, 60.
03:25Most of the day Friday, dry,
03:27but we could see a shower or thunderstorm pop up
03:29later in the day near 70 in the Twin Cities.
03:31And then cooler for the weekend.
03:33Again, rain Saturday turns to snow,
03:35late Saturday, Saturday night
03:36with some lingering snow showers early Sunday.
03:38I would count on a couple of inches,
03:40but again, it could be a lot less
03:42or it could be more than that
03:44depending upon where that narrow swath of heavy snow sets up
03:47and we may be in for more middle of next week.
