00:00Former President Rodrigo Duterte's criminal case with the ICC is in the
00:05disclosure phase of pretrial proceedings where the prosecution furnishes the
00:09defense with all its evidence and witnesses for the trial. So Duterte's
00:14legal team can prepare accordingly and are assured of no surprises once
00:20litigation kicks off. Today's development in the ICC is proof of Duterte's
00:25trial on track and moving forward as our Harley Valbuena narrates in this
00:29report. A total of 181 items of evidence was disclosed by the International
00:37Criminal Court's Office of the Prosecutor to the camp of former
00:41President Rodrigo Duterte. This is in line with his crimes against humanity
00:46charges. A new document released in the ICC website states that the first set of
00:52evidence to be presented by the prosecution to the defense camp of
00:55Duterte was signed by ICC prosecutor Karim Khan. Though labeled as confidential
01:01the prosecution says the items of evidence comprise the materials cited in
01:06the arrest warrant of Duterte. International law expert attorney Tony
01:11Lavinia explains this is just a part of the due process of the ICC and Duterte's
01:17camp will be afforded the chance to comment or answer. He also says the
01:22prosecution might add more witnesses before the finalization of all evidence
01:27and the confirmation of charges hearing of Duterte on September 23, 2025.
01:34It's a basic due process. Now you will tell the person
01:39charged we're charging you and this is the evidence against you.
01:44We are the prosecutor and we are continuing to investigate so there will be more witnesses later on.
01:5143 killings in war on drugs were cited and attributed to Duterte's alleged
01:56crimes in his ICC case. This includes the 19 deaths allegedly perpetrated by the
02:03so-called Davao death squad during Duterte's time as Davao City Mayor and
02:0724 killings in police operations during his presidency.
02:12Moreover, the ICC pretrial chamber also ordered Duterte's camp to submit their
02:18observations on the confirmation proceedings they have until April 11, 2025 to comply.
