00:00Hi, I'm Jacob Carou
00:02and when you're lost in the woods, it can be hard to find your way back.
00:04So I'm going to show you 3 tips to find your way back.
00:16For the first technique, I'm just going to use
00:18a liquid, a needle
00:20and a leaf.
00:22I'm going to look for a waterproof container
00:24such as a pan,
00:26a bowl, and if I don't have one,
00:28a hole in the stone.
00:50And I place the needle on the leaf.
00:52The tip of the needle points to the north.
01:10For the second tip,
01:12we can observe the moss on the trees.
01:14They prefer darkness and humidity,
01:16so they prefer the north.
01:18But it's not 100% reliable
01:20because these mosses are influenced by other parameters
01:22such as microclimates or
01:24the wind. And here, it shows
01:26the west wind.
01:30And the last technique,
01:32we're going to use the stars.
01:34To do this, we're going to locate the polar star, which points to the north.
01:36To recognize it, we're going to use the big bear,
01:38which has a pan shape,
01:40and we're going to use the last 2 stars,
01:42and repeat this step 5 times to get to the polar star.
01:44Once we've located the north,
01:46it's not enough.
01:48We absolutely need a map
01:50or at least a mental representation
01:52of the region
01:54to find our way.
01:56It's true that today,
01:58we all have GPS phones,
02:00but if everything goes wrong,
02:02we'll be glad to have these tips to find our way.
