She urged her fellow EU leaders to note the similarities between President Trump's border wall... and their own anti-immigration policies.

00:00What most Europeans actually want is not just managed immigration, but less immigration.
00:19What would we say if 2,000 people had died trying to cross Mr. Trump's border wall?
00:28We would consider that a gross violation of human rights.
00:33And yet we hear the presidency here say, oh, the situation has improved significantly.
00:40Numbers have gone down.
00:42But Madam President, last year, over 2,000 people died trying to cross the Mediterranean.
00:50And you know what?
00:51We are very critical, and rightfully so, of this silly wall of President Trump.
00:56But Fortress Europe is just the European equivalent of that wall.
01:01And you, the Council, are building Fortress Europe.
01:04You are building the wall.
01:06We just happen to have the Mediterranean in between.
01:10Now, like Trump and his stupid wall, the Council is using Fortress Europe for populist purposes,
01:18for political debate.
01:20And like Trump on this silly wall, you are spending billions on Fortress Europe,
01:25and spending billions on unsavory regimes,
01:28rather than adopting the package that's on the table that has been adopted by a majority of this House.
01:34And something else.
01:35It's not just the European Parliament and the Commission.
01:38It's local authorities.
01:40The mayor of Gdansk, who was stabbed to death, he welcomes thousands of migrants in his city.
01:47You should take an example of that.
01:49You should learn from that.
01:50From all the NGOs, from churches,
01:53who are actually clamouring for a sensible, humane, effective asylum policy.
01:59And it is ready to be adopted.
02:00So stop playing games.
02:02Do what the European citizens expect of you, and adopt the asylum package.
02:09Because yes, we can do it.
02:11Germany has demonstrated it can be done.
02:14So just do it.
