00:00I can remember my mother, a sweet lady, looking at me after we left the hospital
00:09and saying, Joey, out of everything terrible that happens to you,
00:16something good will come if you look hard enough for it. She was right.
00:30This country was not built by Wall Street bankers and CEOs and hedge fund managers,
00:46a lot of good people, but decent people. It was built by the great American middle class,
00:54the most significant economic power in all of history. For real.
01:05That's the American story, a story of ordinary people from the neighborhoods you and I grew up
01:09in, going out and giving half a chance and doing extraordinary things.
01:24I remember to this day how stuttering felt, how dehumanizing, how embarrassing,
01:43how much it put into question, in my own mind as well, my capabilities.
01:59My dad used to say, and I give him my word to this, he'd say, Joey, remember, a job is about
02:14a lot more than a paycheck. It's about your dignity. It's about your place in the community.
02:20It's about who you are. It's about being able to look your child in the eye and say, honey,
02:26it's going to be okay and mean it. Well, that's how we were raised.
02:56So
03:07I was in Washington hiring staff. I got a phone call. My wife and three children were Christmas
03:31shopping. Tractor trailer broadsided it and killed my wife and killed my daughter.
03:37And they weren't sure that my sons would live.
04:02So I've made over, they actually calculated this,
04:068,200 round trips, over 2,100,000 miles on that trailer.
04:19It's not a referendum on whether or not sexual harassment is a grave offense. I said from the
04:27beginning, this is about whether or not sexual harassment occurred.
04:44I haven't always been right. It was a big mistake when it was made. We thought we were told by the
04:48experts that the crack, you never go back. It was somehow fundamentally different. It's not
04:54different, but it's trapped an entire generation.
05:24So
05:54this is an extraordinary election. The American people are ready. I am ready.
06:06Barack is ready. This is his time. This is our time. This is America's time.
06:18My name is Joe Biden and I love ice cream.
06:24You all think I'm kidding. I'm not.
06:25The Taoiseach knows a lot about it. His mom lived in Long Island for 10 years or so.
06:32God rest her soul. And although she's, wait, your mom's still,
06:36your mom's still alive as your dad passed. God bless her soul.
06:40I got to get this straight.
06:46I'll tell you what, man, I'm going to be honest, but I'm not stupid.
07:01Bo was my soul. Bo was my conscience. Bo was my,
07:08Bo was like, he was the little boy who, when he was six years old, he was 30 years old.
07:15For the loved ones we've all lost, for the families that we can still save,
07:30let's make America the country that cures cancer once and for all.
07:33What do you say, Joe?
07:42Joe, for your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country,
07:49and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations,
07:53for the final time as president, I am pleased to award our nation's highest civilian honor,
08:00the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
08:12Look, everyone knows who Donald Trump is. We have to let him know who we are.
08:17We choose hope over fear. We choose science over fiction.
08:24We choose unity over division. And guess what? We choose truth over lies.
08:46We need a president who can bring us together. Unite our party when this nomination is all over.
08:53Unite the country. We're a democracy. I get criticized for saying we can unite the country.
08:59Well, folks, we're a democracy. Democracies depend on consensus.
09:05And there's no way to govern, to progress, if we can't reach consensus in America.
