When it comes to talking about immigration in their countries, Justin Trudeau and Donald J. Trump couldn't be more different.
Transcript
00:00We continue to pursue our policies of openness.
00:13Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.
00:20Canadians have opened their hearts and their arms to families fleeing the ongoing conflict in Syria.
00:26Our proposal prevents new immigrants from going on welfare for at least five years.
00:34That first generation is always going to have challenges integrating.
00:38Our plan favors applicants who can speak English.
00:43There are Italian grandmothers who still pretty much only speak Italian but their kids and their
00:49grandkids are seamlessly and completely integrated into Montreal and the only difference is that they
00:56tend to be trilingual and not just bilingual.
00:58When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best.
01:02We see diversity as a source of strength not weakness.
01:07Our country is strong not in spite of our differences but because of them.
01:13I am today starting the process of terminating the diversity lottery program.
01:22Diversity lottery sounds nice, it's not nice.
01:26We have been open to people fleeing persecution, fleeing war zones,
01:32looking for a better life for themselves and their kids.
01:34We take them because other countries don't want them.
01:37We're like a dumping ground.
01:39The United States, Aaron, is like a dumping ground for the world's problems.
01:43Every wave of immigration has faced pushback because of how they dressed or how they sounded or
01:50what their belief was, what their religion was and every wave of immigration has led to
01:56Canada being a better, stronger, more resilient, richer country.
