00:00You don't get to decide what an American citizen looks like anymore.
00:05Very wealthy white man who grew up in New York.
00:08You don't decide who looks like an American,
00:22because I'm an American and I decide where I fit in this society.
00:30It looks like all I need is a little bit of a challenge to outperform people.
00:55My experience is very different than a lot of people who end up being in leadership and
01:01decision-making positions in our federal government.
01:04It's 2018, and women, Native Americans, gay people, the unemployed and underemployed have
01:18to fight like hell just to survive.
01:35What I saw was, frankly, a big disconnect between the intentions of people who are creating
01:40policy and the way that it actually plays out on the ground, and that is why I wanted
01:45to be a White House fellow.
01:56Truth is, I've had to fight my whole life.
02:04And it's also not just Indigenous candidates, it's Black women who we should be electing
02:11more of, it's LGBT folks, it's across the board.
02:17We are evidence of the changing face of the country and the changing face of politics
02:23in general.
02:24And I think there are a lot of us who are saying, I'm not going to wait for anybody
02:28to help make that happen.
02:29I have to make it happen.
