This former neo-Nazi is aiming to dismantle hate and racism by traveling the country with a friend whose father was murdered by a white supremacist.

00:00I couldn't talk to anybody and have a conversation with them unless they were white.
00:04And not just white, but white and racist.
00:15We couldn't watch movies out of Hollywood because we believed they were all Jewish propaganda.
00:21We couldn't watch TV.
00:23I couldn't listen to any music that wasn't violent, racist music.
00:31I saw hate as just like another means of getting that rush of adrenaline.
00:36Like, oh, I hate you.
00:37Like, it was just part of the habit I had.
00:40There's a lot of parallels between violent extremism ideology and substance abuse.
01:01We must secure the existence of our race and the future of our white children.
01:09That's who I was when I heard white power skinhead music, which was very fast and aggressive, which I liked.
01:15I felt like I was being a rebel.
01:17Like, I was being courageous by getting into this ideology when actually it was really just an expression of my fear and my suffering.
01:31At that point, I had lost count of how many friends had been incarcerated.
01:35So it finally hit me that if I didn't leave, death or prison was going to take me from my daughter.
01:44Nowadays, the tattoos I get are to bear witness to other people's suffering and to remind me that the purpose of my life should be to help alleviate people's suffering.
01:57Party Kalika reached out to me, really, to ask how somebody can commit this kind of violence.
02:03And my answer was practice.
02:05It's never an excuse to hate people, but it is a reason.
02:08That's where hate comes from.

02:22We work with young people of all backgrounds, doing service projects, really cultivating the oneness of humanity through acts of solving problems in our society.
02:33And today, I'm very happy to say I have friends who are black, who are white, who are trans, who are gay.
02:44And today, I'm very happy to say I have friends who are black, red, yellow, brown, white.
02:54I'm a person of color, actually.
02:55I have colors all over me.
02:57I'm a person of color, actually.
03:11I've gotten more communication from people in hate groups who are looking for guidance to get out.
