00:00Hi, I'm Selena Gomez for Brute.
00:02The whole thing that I'm proud of is being able to be role models for young girls.
00:26My family always encouraged me to give back.
00:29So everything that I did was always out of supporting other people.
00:34I mean, my mom was always like, be nice and be kind and be humble.
00:47I remember being in school and all my friends wore like Abercrombie or American Eagle
00:53and it was really hard for my family to kind of afford a $45 sweater.
00:58I started working when I was seven.
01:00And I definitely sometimes wish that I could have had a different upbringing.
01:09Just not sure I should have been involved that young.
01:13It's just, for me, made me a bit guarded, harder to trust people.
01:18I have my close friends and just to be careful.
01:29Our families ended up homeschooling us together.
01:33So we were homeschooled throughout our entire middle school slash high school year.
01:38And then we moved to LA together.
01:41So our families actually lived in a home together for a little bit while I started working on my series.
01:59I am not old enough to vote, but I will be sooner or later.
02:03And if I keep pushing the subject away and not trying to learn about it now,
02:07I'm not going to know what to do when I am eligible to vote.
02:10The biggest issue for me is environment with global warming.
02:13You walk up to kids today and you ask them about global warming
02:16and they're like, I don't know.
02:18I don't know.
02:19I don't know.
02:20I don't know.
02:21I don't know.
02:22I don't know.
02:23I don't know.
02:24I don't know.
02:25I don't know.
02:26I don't know.
02:27You walk up to kids today and you ask them about global warming and issues like that
02:29and half of them look at you and think, what's that?
02:32And that's sad because they don't know what's going on and what's going to happen
02:36if we don't start working on this issue now.
02:39I feel very honored to have a voice that kids listen to and take into consideration.
02:57I think it's very sweet.
02:59So for me, I'm very happy that I can use my voice for things like this to educate kids.
03:09I just only want to share it to all the girls out there that you have a voice,
03:26that you have a chance to just do what you love, whether that is acting or singing
03:31and just being true to who you are.
03:35And the person that's taught me that better than anyone is my mom.
03:39She's so strong and beautiful and has taught me everything.
03:51I am getting a little bit older so I wanted to push myself and kind of get into a little
03:56bit more of an indie world and it was a really great experience for me.
04:00At the same time, it has been, of course, a little awkward but great.
04:30The older I've gotten and the way that I've seen men online talk about me definitely bugs me.
04:56But I just, I don't know, you look at my Instagram and it's not like hot photos.
05:01It's just, you know, my life.
05:04I like to share bits and pieces that I want to share of my life with them and I think
05:11it's always better than, I don't know, interviews or getting to know me from my music or anything.
05:18I think it is nice to be intimate.
05:25When we started production I was going through some stuff in my personal life and it was
05:49weird to see how the message of the story was actually reflecting what I was going through
05:53personally.
06:54I've been working with an organization for over, almost over a year and it's just all
07:01human trafficking from child labor to, I don't want to get too graphic, but that's one of
07:09the big causes I'm fighting for right now.
07:23It's my first time.
07:32I'm excited.
07:33I don't know what to expect but it's definitely an honor.
07:53I'm excited.
