Doctor takes on the NRA

This surgeon — and gunshot survivor — is taking on the NRA with an army of doctors.

00:00Right now there's 4.6 million children that live in homes with unlocked and loaded weapons.

00:05So these are, you know, unintentional injuries that happen on a daily basis.

00:20A fight had broken out at a nearby playground and a guy pulled out a gun and started firing to the crowd.

00:28And at that point I got hit with a random bullet in the neck.

00:58We are facing in this country a public health crisis.

01:11And frankly this is not a Democratic issue. It's not a Republican issue. This is an American issue.

01:17I think what the movement This Is Our Lane did was bring more attention to the medical community

01:24and really unite the medical community behind really being action oriented in how we approach this public health problem.

01:33The hardest part of what I have to do is talking to the families.

01:56And sometimes when I go out to those waiting rooms I just sit there and I stare at the families for a little while.

02:04Because I realize that what I'm about to do is going to completely change their life.
