00:00Meanwhile, on the international front, President Trump is taking a similarly assertive approach
00:05to protecting our country and our interests.
00:07Over the last 18 months, since Hamas, October 7, 2023, attacked on Israel, Iran-backed Houthis
00:15in the Middle East have carried out literally hundreds of attacks on U.S. and international
00:20shipping and on U.S. forces.
00:24Airstrikes by the Biden administration failed to stop the Houthis' activities.
00:29And international shipping has been significantly affected.
00:33Ships now routinely avoid the Red Sea and the Suez Canal in favor of going around the
00:38southern tip of Africa, a route that means longer travel times for goods.
00:45And those ships that do traverse the Red Sea face significant danger to their cargos and,
00:50above all, to their personnel.
00:53This is an unacceptable situation.
00:56And so President Trump is taking action.
00:59Within days of taking office, President Trump had re-designated the Houthis as a foreign
01:04terrorist organization after the Biden administration took them off the list.
01:10And ten days ago, President Trump ordered extensive airstrikes against Houthi targets.
01:15Even more importantly, he's made it very clear to the Houthis that those strikes will continue
01:21unless and until the Houthis cease their attacks on U.S. forces and commercial shipping in
01:26the Red Sea.
01:28And because the Houthis do not act alone but with the support of Iran, President Trump
01:32is also making it clear to Iran that it needs to stop aiding and abetting Houthi terror.
01:40So much of the violence and unrest in the Middle East is carried out by groups funded,
01:45armed, and sometimes trained by Iran.
01:48And any response to this violence must recognize Iran's role, as well as that of its proxies
01:54like the Houthis.
01:56Mr. President, I'm grateful for the long-overdue action that President Trump is taking, both
02:03here at home, on our border, and against Houthi terrorists abroad.
02:08It's this kind of decisive action that will encourage our enemies to think twice before
02:15menacing our nation or threatening our interests.
02:20Mr. President, I yield the floor, and I suggest the absence of a quorum.
