00:00If you've been incarcerated, people look at you a certain way, and it is hard for a lot of people to get employment and housing.
00:16I was informed that my mother had passed and my sister had passed also.
00:21So, adding on to the two years of depression of being incarcerated and trying to get my life back together hit with this and lost everything.
00:33I literally released, went to see my parole officer because I was supposed to be released to my mother's house or whatever, but then she told me the situation.
00:52That kind of messed everything up and had everything locked down upon my release.
00:57The only place I really was accepted is that had an open door for me and get a helping hand was the DOFA.
01:23This is the library at the 89 Porter facility of the DOFA.
01:27A table where we basically would sit, check out books and things of that nature, chat, and just basically relax and enjoy our day.
01:39This would be our computer room where we would set up our email addresses, where they hold computer classes, where they trap people for their resumes.
01:52I used one for a job interview and everything worked out very well.
02:11We were very appreciative of it.
02:13I was surprised that I was being Alex Trebek, being a lauded in life figure, basically the same size.
02:22His suit fit me.
02:23I was like, oh man, I'm ready for jeopardy now.
02:41So you got to be honest with yourself and honest with your employer because now with Google, all they got to do is put your name in it and then they can make up their own story.
02:58The world already make up their own story about people anyway.
03:01So it's best you tell them your story.
03:05At least they could dictate how they feel about you then instead of them making up their own because they'll always choose the worst scenario about yourself.
03:13It's just the harsh reality of the world we live in.
03:26This is a picture of my son.
03:36And whenever things get a little too depressing or hardship draws on me and I feel I don't want to go on, this is what keeps me going.
03:47I mean, knowing that I have a good bond and a good rapport with my child to be able to say, like, he's telling me he's proud of me.
03:56Even though the situations of what I've been through and the situation that I'm going through now, that keeps me going to strive for a better tomorrow.
