00:00I want you to panic.
00:02I want you to feel the fear I feel every day.
00:06And then I want you to act.
00:30I have Asperger's syndrome and to me almost everything is black and white.
00:45I think in many ways that we autistic are the normal ones and the rest of the people are pretty strange.
01:00When school started in August this year I sat myself down on the ground by the side of the Swedish parliament.
01:19High school striked for the climate.
01:27My message to young people is that we need to realize what the older generations have done to us and keep doing in this very moment.
01:37And will not stop until something happens.
01:41And we need to hold them accountable for this mess they have created.
01:45We need to make our voices heard and get angry and then transform that anger into action.
01:58We can't save the world by playing by the rules because the rules have to change.
02:11I would ask the people around the world to realize that our political leaders have failed us.
02:16Because we are facing an existential threat and there is no time to continue down this road of madness.
02:28We need to realize that we are facing an existential threat and there is no time to continue down this road of madness.
02:49Why should we study for a future that is being taken away from us?
02:57That is being stolen for profit?
03:04And some people say we should study to become climate scientists or politicians so that we can in the future solve the climate crisis.
03:14But by then it will be too late. We need to do this now.
03:28How dare you?
03:32You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.
03:38And yet I am one of the lucky ones.
03:41People are suffering. People are dying.
03:46Entire ecosystems are collapsing.
03:50We are in the beginning of a mass extinction.
03:54And all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.
04:00How dare you?
04:02This award is for all those millions of people, young people around the world, who together make up the movement called Fridays for Future.
04:32All these fearless youth fighting for their future.
04:38A future they should be able to take for granted.
04:43But as it looks now, they cannot.
04:47A year and a half ago, I didn't speak to anyone unless I really had to.
05:02But then I found a reason to speak.
05:07Since then, I have given many speeches and learned that when you talk in public, you should start with something personal or emotional to get everyone's attention.
05:18Say things like, our house is on fire, I want you to panic, or how dare you.
05:25But today I will not do that.
05:29Because then those phrases are all that people focus on.
05:35They don't remember the facts, the very reason why I say those things in the first place.
05:42We no longer have time to leave out the science.
