00:00A tragedy in Mandaluyong. A three-year-old boy was killed in a fire and more than 200 families were burned in Mandawi City, Cebu.
00:11Witness, Bernadette Reyes.
00:17In the middle of the ruins of the sarisari structure, a blazing fire was seen on J. Frizal Street, Barangay Namayan, Mandaluyong.
00:25It was past 6 in the morning when the fire started.
00:30It was also seen near a fast-growing thick smoke.
00:35The workers' barracks, junkshop, and warehouse were burned.
00:39Those living in the nearby residential area were quickly evacuated.
00:43No matter what, it did not explode.
00:45Because of the fire, it was so big earlier.
00:48So, we were just doing the important things, like clothes, LPGs.
00:54Those were the things that we evacuated.
00:56But after more than two hours, the 13-year-old boy was found in the burnt barracks.
01:04His father accused him of being a thief.
01:07He was a three-year-old boy. He was the son of one of the workers in the junkshop.
01:12We saw that the barracks is made of wood, light materials.
01:16That's how quickly the fire started on their part.
01:20Witnesses said that the father tried to save the boy.
01:23The fire was so big.
01:28The boy's father climbed to the edge of the house.
01:31The boy could not be saved because the father heard the boy crying.
01:38It was past 2 in the afternoon when the fire was declared out.
01:41The BFP has yet to determine what caused the fire, but they have a reminder about the Fire Prevention Month.
01:48Based on the statements of the people, that's when the fire started.
01:53Our investigators are still verifying.
01:56Let's make sure that our electrical connections are in good condition.
02:00It should be standard.
02:02Let's avoid overload, connection, octopus connection, jumper. Let's avoid that as well.
02:07And of course, the kitchen first.
02:09If we are cooking or cooking rice, let's not leave unattended.
02:13It was past 7 at night when the fire started in Barangay Paknaan in Mandaue City, Cebu.
02:19It reached the 4th alarm before dawn, past 10 at night.
02:24177 houses were destroyed.
02:28244 families were affected.
02:31Some of them were afraid that they might be saved.
02:35Some evacuees are asking for help to be able to get up again.
02:39How many children were destroyed?
02:41More than this.
02:43More than this?
02:45More than this.
02:46Let's go back. It's still hot.
02:50I am sure that it will be given immediately, as soon as possible.
02:56The Fire Department is also aware that it is already the fourth fire in Mandaue this March, Fire Prevention Month.
03:03It was loud. It was buzzing.
03:05The possible angle is electrical wire or 240 wire.
03:11But we will go back to the fire scene to get additional evidence.
03:16For GMA Integrated News, I am Bernadette Reyes, your witness.
