A good or bad time for a rest?
Transcript
00:00Well, let's look at Everton and in terms of the international break, now obviously, good
00:08form and they've been drawing games a lot and finding a way to not lose, definitely
00:14you'd say under David Moyes. Do you feel this international break comes at the right time
00:19for them or is it a dent in momentum or is it a nice time to regroup and go into this
00:24final little stretch and really make the most of it?
00:28I think it is just a good time to be honest with you. Look, it's not like all these players
00:34are getting rest, you've got Jordan Pickford going away, Gerard Bramford going away, Idrissa
00:38Ghanaghey going away, a couple of others, so it's not like they're going to be on their
00:46holidays for a week and then they'll be back in training where they can work on things.
00:50But as you said, they're finding ways not to lose games but they haven't been as convincing
00:58in recent weeks as they were in David Moyes' first few weeks during the second stint in
01:05charge. Maybe that is the so-called managerial bounce that you get but they've shown a lot
01:12of resilience, you've got to credit that and it's a little bit of time to get the injured
01:16players back as well. The likes of Ilham Mundi, Dwight McNeil, Dominic Calvert-Lewin are going
01:22to have two extra weeks to work back towards fitness. Yousef Chibisi and Mando Brozier
01:28are going to have more time on the training pitch. David Moyes has said that they'll have
01:32them in training and they won't get time off because he wants to get them up to speed for
01:35options. So I think it just does come at the right time to be honest with you. If Everton
01:41has won that West Ham game, it may be a little bit of a different fixture but the next fixture
01:47is the Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield. Could Everton go to the well again?
01:55It's the worst answer. I don't want to say run on empty but their options are thinner
02:00because of the injuries at the pad and they've had to play the players a lot more than maybe
02:08David Moyes would have liked certainly in the attacking area of the pitch.
02:12But what can they do now in the last nine games? Where can they finish Everton?
02:18There's a little bit of a mini league going on with Man United and West Ham and Tottenham.
02:22I think David Moyes would be saying well let's finish top of this mini league then
02:27because you've got two clubs of the so-called big six there. You've got West Ham who
02:32is his former club who you know he said he spent a little bit of money there at West
02:37Ham and they have got a good squad that's better than the position at the minute.
02:42And it's all additional revenue for Everton. It's ÂŁ3 million per play so if they can finish
02:47above those three then you'll have an extra ÂŁ9 million there for Everton which will be
02:51important to the coffers. It just comes at the right time I think. David Moyes will be
03:01keeping his fingers crossed and the likes of Garner, Gale and Branford don't pick up any
03:05injuries during the international break.
