00:00The Department of Foreign Affairs is now issuing papers to bring home more than 100 Filipinos from Myanmar's scam hubs.
00:10J.P. Soriano has the story.
00:15Mirna is one of the Filipinos who worked at a crypto farm scam facility in Myanmar
00:20who experienced pain from the employers, especially if they couldn't reach the quota for the scam.
00:28She is one of more than 100 Filipinos who were rescued or rescued by the authorities from the scam hubs
00:35and have been staying in a consolidated facility in Myanmar for several weeks.
00:40Officials of the Office of Migration Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs are currently in Thailand
00:45together with the members of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok
00:48to review the requirements of the Filipinos before crossing from Myanmar to Thailand.
00:54We are hoping next week, on Monday and Tuesday, to get over 150 home.
01:02The areas where the scamming centers are not controlled by the official government,
01:07the State Administrative Council of Myanmar, they're operated or they're controlled by rebel groups.
01:16So there's actually a need for the rebel groups to be of assistance, ironically.
01:23So the rebel groups are the ones who have custody over all these thousands of foreign workers.
01:31Even if they are rescued, it's not that easy to transfer the Filipinos from Myanmar to Thailand.
01:37There are thousands of them.
01:39And Thailand can only accommodate a few hundred every day.
01:42It's not abnormal.
01:44It's the same in Gaza.
01:45You can't just cross.
01:46Once you cross, they will verify the papers one by one.
01:51Once in Thailand, they need to leave Bangkok within 24 hours, according to Thai rules.
01:58According to the DFA, there are still a few Filipinos in the power of illegal crypto-scam hubs,
02:04including those brought to the GMA Integrated News by their relatives here in the Philippines.
02:10The DFA continues to consult with the authorities in Myanmar to help them.
02:16The DFA and the DMW repeatedly remind people to be vigilant in their work,
02:23especially in countries that do not require a Filipino visa to enter.
02:28For GMA Integrated News, JP Soriano, Katutok, 24 Hours.
